Safe in the Arms of God (The Ways and Means of Personal Peace) John
I. See Jesus as the only means to peace. (and the cure for anxiety) So Jesus again said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." (John 10:7-10) 3
I. See Jesus as the only means to peace. (and the cure for anxiety) All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. (John 10:8) 4
I. See Jesus as the only means to peace. (and the cure for anxiety) I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. (John 10:9) 5
I. See Jesus as the only means to peace. (and the cure for anxiety) The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. (John 10:10) 6
I. See Jesus as the only means to peace. (and the cure for anxiety) II. Recognize Jesus as the way to security and safety. 7
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. (John 10:11, 16-17) II. Recognize Jesus as the way to security and safety. 8
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. (John 10: 11) II. Recognize Jesus as the way to security and safety. 9
But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. (John 10:2-4) II. Recognize Jesus as the way to security and safety. 10
If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. (John 10:9) II. Recognize Jesus as the way to security and safety. 11
And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. (John 10: 16) II. Recognize Jesus as the way to security and safety. 12
And the angel said to them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. (Luke 2:10-11) II. Recognize Jesus as the way to security and safety. 13
Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him." (John 14:6-7) II. Recognize Jesus as the way to security and safety. 14
And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. (Acts 4:12) II. Recognize Jesus as the way to security and safety. 15
III. Embrace Jesus as the end of anxiety and fear. Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?" (John 11:25-26) 16
III. Embrace Jesus as the end of anxiety and fear. "Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?" (John 11:25-26) 17
III. Embrace Jesus as the end of anxiety and fear. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. (John 10:11, 17) 18
III. Embrace Jesus as the end of anxiety and fear. Jesus said, "Take away the stone." So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, "Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this on account of the people standing around, that they may believe that you sent me." When he had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out." 19
The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, "Unbind him, and let him go." (John 11:39-44) III. Embrace Jesus as the end of anxiety and fear. 20
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. (John 5:24) Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. (John 6:47) III. Embrace Jesus as the end of anxiety and fear. 21
No one takes it (life) from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. (John 10:17-18) REVIEW: Jesus is the means: "I am the door If anyone enters by me, he will be saved " (John 10:9) 22
REVIEW: Jesus is the way: My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. (John 10:27-28) REVIEW: Jesus is the end: "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?" (John 11:25-26) 23
BIG IDEA: Only God can make you safe and make you feel safe. Jesus is that God. Accept no substitutes. Rush into His arms right now! Application: (I will ) 24
