2 Purpose The purpose of todays lesson is to help each of you to understand that Heavenly Father planned for children to grow up in families.

4 Families Are a Part of Heavenly Father s Plan Where did you live before you came to earth?

5 Each of us chose to follow Heavenly Father s plan and come to earth. When we came to earth, Heavenly Father blessed us with people to help us and love us.

6 I am going to give you clues to help you figure out who these people are. On the next few slides are the Clues. If you figure it out, please don t yell it out, wait till I ask you for the answer.

7 Father is a part of it

8 Aunts and uncles are part of it.

9 Mother is a part of it.

10 I am a part of it.

11 Love is a part of it.

12 You are a part of it.

16 family Why do we need families?

17 family When we were babies we needed to live with people who would take care of us.

18 family Heavenly Father planned for each of us to live with a family that would love us and take care of us.

19 family As we grow older, our families also teach us and help us make wise choices.

20 family Heavenly Father planned for Jesus Christ to be born into a family.

21 Family The man and woman chosen to love and care for Jesus on earth loved Heavenly Father and kept his commandments.

25 Mary was surprised and a little worried when she saw the angel, but she was willing to do whatever Heavenly Father wanted her to do (see Luke 1:29, 38).

28 Joseph was a righteous Man chosen by Heavenly Father to Marry Jesus Mother and love and care for Jesus.

30 The name Jesus means savior.

31 Jesus Christ would save all of us from our sins and help us return to live with Heavenly Father forever

32 The prophets who lived on the earth before Jesus was born foretold that our Savior s name would be Jesus Christ.

33 The word Christ means anointed one, which means chosen by Heavenly Father.

34 Why did Jesus need a family?

35 All families are different.

36 Some families have two parents, and some families have only one.

37 Some families have lots of children, and some families have only a few children or one child.

38 Some families have children, parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles all living together.

39 Some children live with adults who aren t related to them but who still love them and care for them.

40 Families do different things together and show love in different ways.

41 The important thing about families is that the family members love and care for each other. Everyone needs to be part of a family.

42 What did your family do for you when you were a baby?

43 What does your family do for you now?

44 What do you do for other members of your family?

45 This is a picture of my family. (I m the guy in the beard in the last row in the white shirt)

46 In this picture there are (7) mothers, (6) fathers, (12) sisters, (6) brothers, (13) daughters, (11) sons, (6) families, and (2) full time missionaries (before they were called).

47 Can you find my mother?. In the center of the picture, lady wearing sun glasses with white hair and a blue/white shirt.

49 Can you find my two sisters? Front row in the brown Jacket and purple scarf, and in the second row in the red shirt and sun glasses.

51 These family members came from all over the country and Germany to be together and take this picture.

52 They are a very important part of my life because of the things I have learned from them, and the love we have for each other.

53 Who can tell us about their families and why they are important to you?

54 Do you feel happy because you know your family loves you?

55 Do you know of any other times you have been happy because you are part of a family?

56 Discussion Listen while I give a few examples of family members helping and loving one another

57 Discussion Kirk s little brother Eric was afraid at night, so Kirk helped him say a prayer to feel safe. Then Kirk sang a song to help Eric go to sleep.

58 Discussion Kaitlin s mother had been gone overnight. Kaitlin cut a piece of paper into a heart shape and wrote a message telling her mother how much she loved her. She left the message on her mother s pillow for her mother to find when she came home.

59 Discussion Ian s grandmother took time every week to help Ian practice his spelling words for school. Her help and praise encouraged him to learn all the words on his list.

60 Discussion Tony set a goal to read the Book of Mormon before he was baptized. Every night his older sister sat with him and listened as he read. She helped Tony with the hard words. With his sister s help, Tony was able to meet his goal.

61 Discussion Heidi overheard some of her classmates teasing her younger brother. He was nearly in tears, so Heidi took him away and played a game with him. Later she told her classmates that they should not tease other children.

63 Object Lesson The members of a family can work together like the fingers and thumb of a hand.

64 Object Lesson Try to pick up your scriptures or some other object with one hand, without using your thumbs.

65 Object Lesson While you may be able to pick up and object with just your fingers, it is much easier when you use their thumb and fingers together. Every member of a family is important. Family members can accomplish much when they all work together.

69 TESTIMONY I bear you my testimony that Heavenly Father wants each of us to be loved and taken care of by a family. Remember that every family is different and every family is important.
