4 Early Bird Session Descriptions & Leader Bios WMU Ministries Teresa Bailey Have you ever wondered what WMU ministries is all about? Come and join in this early bird breakout as we learn several ways to incorporate WMU ministries into your women s group at church or individually begin helping a specific ministry to those in the USA or around the world. What does water, job skills, travel, shopping all have in common? They are all linked to ministries that WMU sponsors and encourages women to get involved in. Teresa came to know Jesus as Lord and Savior in her early twenties. She realized that the hole in her heart would never be filled with worldly things and relationships. Teresa realized Jesus was the only one who could fill that space and never leave her or forsake her. Teresa has a heart for engaging people and making connections to help them grow into a relationship with Jesus or further their walk with Him. Teresa is the WMU Leader for Northwest Ohio Baptist Association, State WMU team Christmas Backpacks - Mission Project Bill Barker Night after night one out of four children across the USA go to bed hungry. 6 Breakout Session Descriptions & Leader Bios Courageous Enough to Break the Chains of Food Bondage Ellie Marrandette Ellie Marrandette, author, speaker and certified nutritional counselor, has worked with family physicians, chiropractors, health care and weight loss facilities. Having felt God s call to motivate Christians to honor their earthly bodies, she founded New Creations Ministries in With all the culinary challenges and stress in our contemporary society, how can Christians become strong enough to overcome temptations around food? This seminar addresses among other topics, why we crave certain foods, how to create Solomon smarts to overcome challenges. Become the New Creation God always intended you to be! REFIT Revolution Carla Wells Strong hearts both physically and spiritually are important in our service to Christ. REFIT Revolution is a fitness class for everyone no matter what your level of fitness. Through family-friendly music, fun dance moves, and heart connection time, you ll learn how to strengthen your body and your soul. Carla Wells is a member of First Baptist Church of Grove City, where she has served as a member of the Celebration Choir, Awana Ministry, and Women s Ministry. The message of fitness for the willing was what originally drew her to the REFIT Revolution program. REFIT is a one size fits all fitness experience for the mind, soul, and body. Carla became a Certified Instructor in March of 2016, and currently leads classes at her home church as well as First Baptist Church of West Jefferson. Troubles or Trials Sherry Tarlton We are not to cope with our problems but By All Means be Courageous and give them to God. He is the Father of all mercies and the God of comfort. Sherry Tarlton is a motivational speaker and does stand-up comedy. She is an author. Her latest book is Prayers from the Heart. Sherry loves to encourage everyone she meets. She and her husband Terry reside near Columbus. Are You In? Susie Emery Pray Strong! Pray Courageously! Claim scriptures and grow towards a more courageous praying lifestyle.the time is now! Persecuted Christians are our example-are You In? My love for missions comes from a deep desire to see others saved and discipled. WMU has only one purpose to pray, give and go. As a former Ohio WMU president, my experience was so life changing and informative about how WMU works from the very beginning until now. Missionaries know that when they go on the field where God has called them WMU is praying, giving and educating all ages. We have a great heritage and I pray that we shall continue!
7 Breakout Session Descriptions & Leader Bios By All Means... Finish Well the Story of Your Life Joanne Hopkins Sometimes we feel like we want to just quit. Sometimes our lives feel like such a failure, but we need to remember God planted us here and he wants us to finish well By All Means. Your life is a story and we cannot quit in the middle of a story. God has a plan and a purpose for your story, and you are the main character. Finish strong! Let s share some thoughts about how we can do this. The story of my life began in a coal mining area of West Virginia. Grew up in a Christian home with three sisters, a mother and a father. Left home after high school to attend Georgetown College in Georgetown, KY. There I met my husband who was a Pastor. We were married 53 years when God called him home. We came to Ohio in I have three children, two sons and one daughter. I have 7 grandchildren and at this time I have 5 great grandchildren and expecting 4 more soon. I taught school for 32 years. Since retirement I have been busy in my church and in mission work around Ohio. I served as state WMU President for 5 years. I now stay busy in my area serving God where I can and praying that He will allow me to finish well. Pastors & Church Plant Wives Tea Jean DiFilippo 9:25 Session Only By All Means Be Strong and Courageous Wow! Most ministry wives could probably write a book with this title! We are constantly faced with life s trials and tribulations not only our own, but the lives of the people we serve. How can we stand strong when our hearts are breaking over someone receiving tragic news or someone choosing to walk away from the Lord? Of course, constant communication with the Savior through prayer is the most important thing. However, having relationships with other ministry wives can help immensely. Just talking with someone who has been there is a huge encouragement. Come and enjoy fellowship with other ladies who understand the complex role of being a ministry wife. Jean has served in ministry with her husband, Jim, for thirty-one years. She has shared the joy of helping others come to Christ and grow in their relationship with him. She has also shared the heartbreak and helpless feeling of watching people make bad choices. In addition to being a pastor s wife, Jean is our current Ohio WMU Vice President and she works with a campus ministry at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

9 2017 Ohio WMU Business Meeting Minutes The business meeting of Woman s Missionary Union of Ohio began at 7:00p.m. on September 9, 2016, during the first session of the WOMEN S FALL RETREAT AND MISSION CELEBRATION held at Seneca Lake Baptist Assembly. Sue Stickel, Ohio WMU President, called the meeting to order and led in prayer. We viewed a scenario concerning By All Means, our theme for the year. President Stickel presented the name of Jennie Ferrel (Lincoln Heights, Mansfield) as a candidate for Recording Secretary. There were no other nominations and Jennie was elected. Jennie then presented the names of Sue Stickel (West Jefferson First) for President and Jean DeFilippo (Athens First) for Vice-President. There were no further nominations so they were elected by acclimation. Should the President not be able to complete her term, the Vice-President will assume the office of President to fill out her one-year term. The following age-level leaders were appointed: Mary Winks (Frankfort BC) as Women On Mission/Adults on Mission Consultant, Sarah Beck (Lincoln Heights, Mansfield) as Girls In Action Consultant, Bryan Carpenter (Groveport First) as RA/ Challengers Consultant, Amanda Mishne (Grove City First) as Children In Action/ Mission Friends Consultant, and V.J. Sanchez (Briggs Road) as C..W.J.C./C.M.J.C. Consultant. The minutes from last year were printed in the program as well as the Ohio Woman s Missionary Union Guidelines. President Stickel urged us to read the Guidelines and come to her with questions and/or concerns. President Stickel read a letter from Wanda Lee, Executive Director of national WMU, and Linda Cooper, national WMU President. They challenged us to be doing Whatever It Takes, BY ALL MEANS to tell people about Jesus where we live. Susie Emery, along with recruits, led us in praying for missionaries having birthdays today. We were reminded how very important it is to support those who are serving, and who have served, as they tell the world about our Savior. After the business sessions, we were brought to worship through a music experience led by Angela Corbett, Judy Sinsel, and Jessica MacKan of Grove City First. Amber Dunkle and Jessica Clark (Jersey), two of last year s recipients of the Joan White Scholarship Fund, shared their experiences of witnessing in a different language and culture in Cambodia. Our worship time ended with sharing from her witnessing experiences by Linda Cooper of Kentucky, our national WMU President. Respectfully submitted, Jennie Ferrel
