1 Mount Zion Cemetery Stantonville, McNairy County, Tennessee Mt Zion, on Hwy 142 just west of Stantonville City Limits. The Mt Zion Church and school was started after a grant from the State of Tennessee approved a grant of ten acres to the little community. It was situated on the Mt Zion Road, close to the Purdy Corinth Road and the cemetery was on the same grounds. In 1932, while cleaning the church yards, the church burnt while burning leaves. It was never rebuilt. A story is told of a Civil War Soldier who made it to the Mt Zion community before he died. He is buried in the cemetery. (Probably the battle of Shiloh.) Directions: From Selmer, take Hwy 45 S. Turn left in front of Walmart on Hwy 142. About 5 miles. Turn left on Mt Zion Lane. Cemetery is just off the Highway but you can t see from road. If you go to Stantonville City limits sign - you have gone too far. Turn around and go back. From Cemeteries of McNairy County, compiled by Nancy Wardlow Kennedy. Please note there are four Mt Zion Cemeteries in McNairy County. Please allow for errors. Old tombstone are hard to read and typo s are sometimes made. Thanks to Carrol Heath for contributing this cemetery Surveyed Mar 25, 2007 [gcheath@centurytel.net]. Total records = 182. This cemetery has a lot of stones in it. The earliest death date is I do not know when this cemetery was established. There are 9 unmarked graves in this cemetery, these graves just have the funeral home marker and are unreadable. I walked and read this cemetery, using my digital camera. I have a photo of all existing and legible stones and markers. I completed my transcribing in Mar of Carrol Heath. Anderson, Jane H., d.
