2 Introduction: When we first moved to Australia I was approached by some pastors to begin to mentor the revelatory gifted people in their church. I was very excited about doing this, because I personally had been on a journey for 25 plus years trying to sort this thing out. I thought if I could cut through part of the digging out process for people with revelatory gifts I could help them jump years ahead in developing what God had placed inside them. As revelatory gifted people, the gift God has placed inside you is like a vacuum and it is going to look for information to fill the void the vacuum creates. It is very important that you be selective of what kind of information you fill the void with. I remember at the beginning of my journey I read whatever I could put my hands on and back then wasn t much to get. There wasn t any one I could go to and ask what I should be reading and studying. Honestly, all I did was get a hold of stuff that just caused me a lot of confusion and cause me to be spiritually dangerous. In fact I once got a prophecy that said I was like a prophetic shot gun when I spewed it may or may not hit my target but regardless it caused a lot of woundedness! Eventually I stumbled upon JPJ and Streams Ministries Int l and through that connection I met Kathie Walters both whom I consider to be a great influence in my life, but they were not one on one mentors. God told me to put down all the other stuff I was trying to read, digest and understand and to focus in on what JPJ was teaching me. I did that for three years. God told me to be silent, not to ask questions or to talk to other people. I realized after the fact that God was doing that for several reasons, but one reason was so that I would not be confused, I was to concentrate only on what I was getting from JPJ. I walked through this three year period with only JPJ and the Holy Spirit being my guide. It taught me to be patient and I gained a lot of maturity. I promise to teach you all I know & walk with you as a one on one mentor to you and take you as deep as I possibly can, and you will need to do what I ask you to do even if you don t understand or it makes no sense to you. I am here for you to ask questions during the training process. Please feel free to do that. I m not going to promise I know all the answers, but if I don t, I will find out or direct you to someone who can. 2 P a g e

3 What you focus on you make room for. If you are serious about developing your revelatory gifts, then you will make room for the mentoring and training. We have to learn to be ready to hear from God in season and out of season. It is part of the training process. I understand that you are all on different levels of development in your gifting. Some of you are well versed in flowing in your gift, others of you are just discovering if you have a gift or NOT. Some of this will seem elementary to some of you, be patient with me we will get to more meatier stuff. I just have to lay a foundation so we are all on the same page. If you have been a student of the prophetic I ask you to toss out all you know and start a new file! Those of you who have no clue let me assure you that all believers can hear from God and the more you work on and develop your gift, the more your gift will grow. (more about this later) What I m saying is we have to start at the beginning. I d like to ask you not to read anything else or study anything else (except of course the word of God) on the prophetic. I will give you recommended reading as we go along. I trust very few views of the prophetic. I will let you know who I consider to be safe. I ve been studying material on prophecy and especially the SEER for 30 years or more and I find most of it has some conflicting points of view that can cause you lots of confusion. In the early stages of your training, you might not have the maturity to filter out things that could be harmful to you. That s my job as a mentor. I am available to you any time to talk about whatever you need to talk about. By being part of this mentoring class, I need you to lock in here and focus. 4 Session 1 THE FIRST TIME: 1. When was the first time you knew you had heard from God or had a revelation that you knew was from God? 2. How old were you? 3. How old were you when you believed you might have a revelatory gift or a special ability to hear from the Lord? 4. Does your family know about your gift? a. If so do they understand it? 5. 5 Revelatory Foundations Christianity is not a man-made organization. It is not a formula. Christianity was born of the Spirit. It operates on spiritual principles principles that transcend the laws of the natural universe. They rise above, go beyond, and exceed the natural laws of the universe. This means that when God performs miracles, He doesn t do away with the natural laws of the natural universe. He transcends them. In the New Testament, the men who promoted the gospel of Jesus Christ were men of the Spirit. Paul was so in tune with the Spirit (and the Spirit s way of doing things) that when he was locked up in prisons, an angel came and set him free. He was a person who walked with an understanding of his rights and privileges in Christ, including the spiritual laws that both govern and benefit his Spirit-led life. See, laws don t just dictate what you have to abide by; they are there for your benefit and your protection. Laws protect your freedoms telling you what your rights and privileges and liberties are in this domain in which you live. The person who lives in the Spirit knows spiritual principles, uses spiritual weapons, sees and knows and perceives in the spirit. I. Prophecy Explained A. Prophecy involves both to: 1. Foretell: to speak of God s a) Foretelling is revelation that is predictive in nature 2. Forth-tell: a revelation to a person or people in regard to the present moment and situation 5 P a g e

6 a) Both fore-telling and forth-telling are speaking something that is not of the individual s making, instead it comes as revelation b) Revelation is God making known to us what we did not know or could not have known through our natural senses. 1 Corinthians 14:26,30... Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation... if anything is revealed to another who sits by, let the first keep silent. 3. New Testament prophecy is: a) Spontaneous, understandable messages inspired by the Holy Spirit, intended for edification, exhortation or encouragement that may include a revealing of the mind of Christ for a person or a people. Stated another way, it is speaking what God has spontaneously revealed to the person. b) As John Wimber stated, a prophetic word is not a prepared message... It s simply an immediate report of some revelation the Spirit has given in regard to a contemporary situation (1 Corinthians 14:29-30)... It s an inspired message for the moment in the common language. 6 P a g e

7 c) It is something that God impresses on a person s consciousness in such a way that the person has the sense that it is from God. II. Your Sons & Daughters Shall Prophecy A. All sincere believers who have made Jesus both Savior and Lord have received the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:17-18 And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions; your old men shall dream dreams. And on My Menservants and on My Maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those Days; and they shall prophesy. Romans 5:5... the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. Titus 3: but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior. 7 P a g e

8 1. On the day of Pentecost came the inauguration of Joel s prophetic word. The Spirit was outpoured, and made accessible to every person who called on the name of Jesus and desired to be filled with the Holy Spirit. a) Furthermore, Ephesians 4:7 states, B. Christ is the giver of spiritual gifts. Just as grace (charis) comes from Him, so do the gifts (charisma). 1. Three times Paul commands the Corinthians to to prophesy. a) For earnestly desire some translations have eagerly desire or covet earnestly; the basic definition means to strive after something, or to be deeply attracted to something. C. Will Everyone Prophesy? 1 Corinthians 14:26,31 Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification... For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged. 8 P a g e

The Apostle Paul is not saying that every one does prophesy or will prophesy. a) His point is that the potential for being used is available to all. b) The gifts are a manifestation of the Holy Spirit and are evidence of God s blessings. D. Is Everyone Who Prophesies a Prophet? 1. Jesus appoints certain believers to this responsibility. but Eph 4:11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers. 2. The role of a Prophet is a ministry emphasis and life function 9 P a g e

10 3. As stated Ephesians 4, their primary focus is to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith... E. Levels of prophetic ministry 1. The maturity level of the individual believer and the development of the revelatory gift in their life will determine the level of prophetic ministry they should be operating at. 2. The Gift of Prophecy a) The Gift is potentially available to all, and frequency of use will vary. b) The Gift should be utilized and characterized by, _, &. 10 P a g e

11 c) The Gift generally includes words about the past and present. d) The Gift speaks to the local body 3. The Ministry of Prophecy a) Ministry is given to _. b) Ministry includes limited & supervised correction and guidance to individuals and small groups of people c) Ministry speaks to the past and present but adds the element of the future. d) Ministry speaks to the local body but includes the translocal and national arenas. 4. The Function of the Prophet a) Function is given to some based on the call and maturity level. Jesus appoints certain believers to this responsibility. 11 P a g e

12 b) Function incorporates correction and guidance more deeply and extensively. c) Function speaks to the past and present and future, but with greater clarity, precision and frequency. d) Function speaks with greater authority to the local body, the trans-local and national arenas. We are not all prophets, that is a specific calling (anointing from Jesus). However, we have all been given a lifestyle that involves communion verbally. It is impossible to build a successful, dynamic relationship with God if we cannot hear His voice. To properly release the prophetic gift in our lives, we must remain in the of God. We have to. to learn how to speak to them the way God would speak to them. We need Our interactions with people should cause them to who God is and who He wants to be for the. When God speaks,. Something is. Something is supposed to happen in people s hearts when they receive a revelatory word or action. Col 4:6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.
