1 Lighthouse Ministry February Newsletter To Know Jesus Christ, and to make Him Known Dear Friends, I pray that so far 2017 has been a year of blessings, victories, and accomplishments! There are so many opportuni es for we, the church, to be effec ve in the world around us! February is upon us, and many have finished packing up the Christmas lights, and are now decora ng for Valen nes Day. I have always been intrigued by Valen nes Day, because it is a holiday where everyone is celebra ng love and the rela onships they have in their lives. I believe we as the church have a lot to offer in this area as we serve a God who IS love. It intrigues me even more when I consider the fact that this world truly has lost much of its understanding of love, and replaced it with emo ons, feelings, and desires. The type of sacrificial love that Valen ne himself was celebrated for exhibi ng, is a love that can only be learned from the one true God. We are reminded in Scripture what true love looks like in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 Love is pa ent, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. the person exhibi ng love is doing it because they actually care, and not just to benefit themselves. In fact, if we truly look at the greatest expression of love, we can get a grasp of the nature of a love worth celebra ng. We are told in John 15:13, 13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one s life for his friend. While few of us will ever be called to the point of actually laying our life down for those we love, we can exhibit this sort of selfless ac on to those we care about throughout our daily lives. Even though Jesus ul mately sacrificed everything on the cross for us, we can see this same a tude of humble, selfless service displayed throughout His me on this earth. He had compassion on those with physical needs. Jesus spoke truth to those with spiritual needs, even when they did not want to hear it. He did not compromise, or water down the repercussions of sin. Jesus did not only rebuke them, but called them to repentance. His life was that of a servant, spending day a er day selflessly giving to those in need, and only taking the me off which was needed to rest and commune with His Father. I pray that this Valen nes Day is spent doing more than just seeing how roman c you can be, or how many boxes of chocolates you can give. May our neighbors see us, the church, as being different. May we love with the type of love that is uncommon in the world around us. May we exhibit the a tude of Christ each day throughout the year! God Bless You! It breaks my heart as I see many people today, growing up as we all did, envisioning a happy future being in love, only to realize the love they were sold on all these years was less than the real thing, and o en is simply a picture they saw in a movie. Our media o en portrays a love that is selfish, and solely seeking our own interests and desires and has nothing to do with God. If you have experienced real love, you know it is selfless, and o en challenging. Love is a verb and is displayed by a series of ac ons, but does not find its roots in physical in macy. It is a decision made throughout each day. It comes with sacrifices, and most of the me involves no warm fuzzy feelings. It can involve long, sleepless nights, and it some mes takes hard work. 3 Around the Academy Sandwiches are in the air at Lighthouse! Thank you to all those who supported our recent sandwich sale! We told a total of 896 sandwiches! We are gearing up for our third and ﬁnal sandwich sale of the year in March. Our goal is 1000; can we reach it? Orders are due March 3. Students have picked projects for the upcoming President s Day Reports. Reports are due and should be ready to present on February 13th.

Tuition is due on the 15th of the month. Please note: Tuition rates have gone up slightly for this academic year. We are doing all in our power to keep them low! Thank you for your understanding!

We are reaching that time of year that we are in serious preparation for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Student Convention! If your child is of age(13+) and is expressing interest in attending, please be watching for permission forms to be sent home. Early entry events also are due by March 1st. There is one final sandwich sale in March to assist you in raising the needed funds for registration. We have a prayer chain available to aid in brothers and sisters li ing your needs in prayer. Healthy Baby Titus Masemore Healthy Baby Russell Boyer III Bonnie is in need of an ExoSym Brace to help her to be able to walk and func on without pain. The fi ng of this brace requires an expensive trip to Washington state for a few weeks. The cost is not covered by insurance and surpasses $7,000. We have set up a fund to help in covering these costs in a tax deduc ble manner and 100% of your dona on will go directly to the need. If you are able, please contribute to this need. Checks can be made out to Lighthouse with Bonnie in the memo. Recycling Program We are currently accepting aluminum cans and small clear plastic water bottles. Additionally, the tabs on the aluminum cans will be separately used to raise funding for our student, Shamya s, Cerebral Palsy treatment. We are always looking for used Cell phones, inkjet cartridges, laptops, and Ipods. These items can be in working or nonworking condition, and will be recycled to generate funds for the school.
