1 Land Indenture Buckinghamshire, England 1661 Box 19 Folder 3 S8 Transcription [1] In the Name of God Amen I Thomas Risley of Chitwood in County of Bucks[inghamshire] Esq[ui]r[e] being somewhat crasie in my Body but of Good and [2] perfect memorie and minde (praysed be God therefore) Doe make and ordaine this my ^last^ Will and Testiment in manner and forme [3] following: And first I bequeath my Soule into the hands of Allimghty God my Creator Assuredly trusting through the meritts and [4] medition of my deare Redemer Jesus Christ to receive pardon and remission of all my Sinns at the day of Judgement; my Body I [5] bequeath to the earth where of it was made in certaine hopes that by the power of Allmighty God the same shall go raised upp to life ever- [6] -lasting at the last day: As for my Wourldly goods and estec wherew[i]th it hath pleased god to bless me I dispose of as followeth: In the first place [7] I give and bequeath unto my deare and Loving Wife Margret all my Silver plate in the Dress Chamber being two Tauckards of Silver [8] two greate boles of Silver two litle boles of Silver one greate Salt of Silver two porringers one litle Salt and one plate of Silver Tewlve [9] new fassioned Spoones ^of Silver and one Sugar box and a litle Spoone of Silver^ Allso I give and bequeath unto my said Wife all the furniture of Chamber where wee now lye and also the [10] furniture of her maide s Chamber where her maid s now Lye: namely the Beadsteads

2 feather-beads blanckets coverlids Counterpaine [11] Curtaines valence hangings Chaires Stooles fiershovels Tongs Andiorns Bellowes and all other utensels and things belonging to or [12] being Com[m]only used in the said Chambers or either of them: together w[i]th the Dress Truncks and Boxes com[m]only standing in the Dress [13] Chamber and all my Lin[n]en of all sorts and also all my wearing apparell: Also I give unto my said Wife all my wood (excepting Timber) [14] w[hi]ch at the time of my death shall be in the Woodhouse ^and^ yards together w[i]th all my Mault and corne of all Sorts as well threshed as untheshed w[hi]ch I shall [15] hand at the time of my Death and all provisions both for bread meate and drincke also I give unto my said Wife all my sheepe beasts and [16] Cattell of all Sorts w[i]th at the time of my death shall be used or Com[m]only reputed as Stocke for all the Saids intended For her Joynter [17] Allso I give unto my Said Wife my Coach w[i]th the Springtrees beads harniss bridelss and all things thereunto belonging and also any two of my best [18] horses: w[hi]ch shee shall Choose she expresing her choice by asking my executor for them: Also I give to my said Wife my house in Buckingham wich [19] I purchased of Thomas Grove and John Watson w[i]th the garden yard Orchard outset buildings and all things thereunto belonging or there w[i]th [20] Com[m]only used: To have and To hold to her Duering her life if she so long continued a Widdow: Also I give unto my Said Wife Margret [21] Risley the Sum[m]e of Seaventy five pounds of Lawfull money to be paid to her immeadiately after I shall Depart this ^life^ to furnish her w[i]th ready

3 [22] money for her present occasions Also I give to my said Wife Margret all my Tythes Lands Tenements and hereditaments w[i]th ^all^ and Singular [23] theire and every of theire appurtenances Scituated lying and being in Gaucott and Lenborow or either of them in the parish of Buckingham [24] in the County of Bucks[inghamshire] (except one wood called Boysters Wood and ^one^ parcell of pasture and meadow ground adi[j]oyning unto the East side of [25] Boysters Wood devided unto three litle closes in the occupation of Thomas Weele: To have and to hold her duering Her Life if she so [26] long continue a Widdow in trust and confidence in her reposed that She shall permit and Suffer my Sonn John to take the profits thereof [27] so long as he and my Said Wife shall w[i]th her good Liking Live together in my house at Chitwood and noe longer and afterwards shall take [28] them to her owne use: lickewise I will and my Will is and I doe give to my Sonn Thomas Risley the summe of one Thousand pounds [29] of Lawfull money to be paid immediately after Decease: Lickewise I give unto my Daughter Dorothy Risley the summe of fifteene [30] hundered pounds for her portion in case she be not married in my life time: to be paid to her immediately after my Decease [31] by my executor: and for the better Securetie of the said payment I give and bequeath to her: her executors Adminnistrators and [32] Assignes: All those inclosed grounds of meadow and pasture being part and parcell of the Mannor or Lordship of Stow and Lamport or [33] one of them in the County of Buck[inghamshire] Commonly called or knowne by the names

4 following that is to say Small-brooke hill ground w[i]th [34] the meadow thereto belonging and hawkewell hill ground now or late in the occupation of Peter Chaplin w[i]th theire and every of [35] there appurtenances And also Patty Ridgway and the meadow thereunto belonging now or late in the occupation of Edward [36] Steavens and hawkewell house and meadow there to belonging Lamport greene and upper Small-broock meadow and part of [37] hors close now or late in the occupation of John Addington: To have and to hold the said inclosed grounds Tythes and premises w[i]th [38] theire and every of there appurtenances unto the said Dorothy Risley her executors Administrators and assignes: duering all the [39] rest and residue of the terme yet to come and onexpired for w[hi]ch they are devisess granted bargained and Sould unto me by Sir [40] Richard Temple by his deed of Indenture beareing date the Sixt day of December in the yeare of our Lord one Thousand Sixt [41] hundered Sixty and one: made betweene the said Sir Richard Temple one the one part and me the said Thomas Risley on the the other [42] part in as full Large and beneficiall a manner as I my selfe might enjoy the same together w[i]th all ^my^ Right Title and intrest in and to the [43] Same and all the money therein expresed to be secured or intended to be secured by the said deed of Indenture together w[i]th the said [44] deed of Indenture: And my Will is that this shall not discharge my said executor from payment of the said Sum[m]e of fifteen hundered
