1 John 14:16-19 July 12, 2012 Joh 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Joh 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. Joh 14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Joh 14:19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. Joh_14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Christ is the first comforter who comforts us in the flesh (1Co_15:46-47). He has brought comfort to His disciples none of which He has lost, save "but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled." (Joh_17:12) 1Co 15:46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. 1Co 15:47 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. Joh 17:12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. The second "Comforter" [G3875 parakletos] or "another Comforter" as Christ puts it, is the holy spirit which is Jesus Christ the hope of glory (Col_1:27) abiding in these earthen vessels (2Co_4:7) providing the spiritual bread of life that we need to endure unto the end (Php_4:13, Mat_24:13, Joh_8:36). Php 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. 2Co 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. Mat 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. Joh 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. Christ comforted the masses with loaves and fishes which were symbols of His word. (Mat_14:17-20, Mat_15:33-39) and it is only when we can recieve God's word that it will ultimately change our life. It has been given unto us today to recieve those words of life, and this is the act of mercy God shows to our first Adam so that we can become that new man who will show the same compassion toward all the world one day (Mat_13:11-12, Rom_11:31).

2 The unconverted masses want to have this physical bread again that Christ has provided, and the miracles again to sustain the flesh again, and this becomes the mantra of the evil and adulterous generation which we all are in our appointed time seeking after a sign and no sign is given "but the sign of the prophet Jonas:" (Mat_12:39) Mat_12:39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: Mat_14:17 And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes. Mat_14:18 He said, Bring them hither to me. Mat_14:19 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. Mat_14:20 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full. Mat_16:9 Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? Mat_16:10 Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? The last part of this verse "that he may abide with you for ever;" reminds us that the words that Christ speaks are spirit and that it is the spirit that quickens (Joh_6:63). Peter simply answers Christ, "to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal [G166 aionios] life." (Joh_6:68). Joh_14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. Christ is this spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive because it does not see him (Isa_44:18 Mat_13:13-14), or know him. Isa 44:18 They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand. Mat 13:13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. Mat 13:14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: But we know him because he dwells with us, and will be in us. The second part of this verse says, "but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you."

3 God's elect are blessed to know Him and Jesus Christ in this age (Mat_13:11, Rev_1:3)which is what eternal life is by definition (Joh_17:3, Eph_1:4). Christ dwells with us (Heb_13:5) and prepares us for the day when these words "and shall be in you" as the hope of glory (Col_1:27) is a reality. Mat 13:11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. Rev 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand. Heb 13:4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge. We are dragged out of mystery Babylon's bed the Mother of Harlots to be those who are first judged and purified as God's elect. Rev 17:5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. Rev 17:6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. 1Pe 4:17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? Rev 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. Rev 19:8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. Rev 19:9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God. Heb 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 1Ti 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 1Ti 6:7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. Heb 13:6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

4 Heb 13:7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation. Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. Heb 13:9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein. Heb 13:10 We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle. Mat 11:27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. Joh 8:19 Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also. Joh 15:19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Joh 8:42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Joh 8:43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Joh 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. Joh 8:45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. Joh_14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Heb_13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. Take no thought, He will not leave us comfortless! Mat_6:25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Mat_6:31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? Mat_10:18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles. Mat_10:19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. Mat_10:20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you. Mat_10:21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.

5 Mat_10:22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. Men ought always to pray, and not to faint. He will not leave us comfortless! Luk 18:1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; 2Co 4:1 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; 2Co 4:16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. 2Co 4:17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; Gal 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. Eph 3:13 Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. Heb 12:3 For consider him that endured (Php_4:13)such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. Heb 12:4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin. Heb 12:5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: Joh_14:19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. The words of Chirst "Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more;" are a parable. The world never saw Christ, and even those to whom the Father dragged to Christ thought they new Christ but they did not know Christ with minds that were yet converted. Seeing the physical Christ does not mean you see Him. Christ says "but ye see me" speaking of things that are not as though they were (Rom_4:17). The next statement "because I live, ye shall live also." is the key to this parable. Chirst is going back to the Father to the former glory that He had (Joh_17:5), and reveals later in God's word that it is expedient that He go away (Joh_16:7). If He goes away then He will be resurrected and send the comforter which will be given by our Father (Joh_16:15-16). This is sometime to rejoice over, Chirst leaving this body of death and going to our Father so the comforter can be sent (Joh_14:28, Joh_16:7). Rom 4:17 (As it is written, I made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. Joh 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

6 Joh 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. Joh 16:15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you. Joh 16:16 A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father. Joh 14:28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
