We are to put off the old person and put on the new person (Colossians 3:9-10; Ephesians 4:22-24). The new person is the nature of a son or daughter of God. - Keys to put on and release our spiritual nature as sons and daughters of God: - Faith and Love from the heart are the keys: 1 John 3:23 - Faith: 1 John 5:4; Luke 1:17 cf. 13 Being Transformed from the Heart of an Orphan, Slave, Child to the Heart of Daughter/Son of a God Part 1 Whether we are transformed into a daughter/son is determined by the kind of law we embrace! Transitioning from the Law of Moses Foundation: Galatians 4:21-31: The heart of a slave and child are under the Law of Moses (Galatians 4:1-3). The Law of Moses will keep our hearts in a state or condition of a child or slave (Galatians 5:1-4). The heart of an orphan is lawlessness. Transitioning into the Law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus enables us to think and walk as a daughter/son of God (Romans 8:14). This is just a quick review of the Law of Moses and the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus. For a more in-depth study the study on Law that I wrote. The Forces of the Law of Moses There are forces that are ingrained in the fabric of the Law of Moses to help motivate people to fulfill the walk in the Law of Moses. Listed below are three of the forces used in the Law of Moses. 1. Using fear of sin and failure as motivation to keep from sinning or failing: Exodus 20:18-20 cf. Hebrews 12:18-24 Question: Am I using the fear of failure or sin as a method of motivation of success or keeping me from sin? Example: If I am shooting a free throw to win a basketball game and I use the fear of missing the shot to help motivate me to make the shot, I will most likely miss Dealing Jesus 13

the shot. Faith and confidence is how and what God has created us operate. If I use faith and confidence to make the shot it will release my abilities to make the shot. 2. Establish standards/law for measurement of performance, confidence and focus: Deuteronomy 28:1-ff; Colossians 2:20-23; Galatians 3:1-3 Example: If a woman reads Proverbs 31:10-11 and thinks she is to perform or do the passage, rather than believe, because anything not of faith is sin (Romans 14:24). As the woman of God believes the Word of God concerning a wife, she will be transformed from the inside out (1 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Corinthians 3:18). Test: Overlay Confession of truth (Hebrews 10:14) over a role or task like husband/wife, mother/father; job, church member, son/daughter overlay (Proverbs 31:10-11; Ephesians 5:22-ff). 3. Consequences of sin; Think that you have to bear the consequences of your past mistakes. Consequences of sin keep us enslaved to our past. It is a reminder of sin (Hebrews 10:3-4). Truth: When we confess our sins, our sins are forgiven, cleansed (1 John 1:9) and our confessed sins are forgotten (Hebrews 10:17). By the mercy of God our sins are forgiven. By the grace of God the consequences of our sin is overcome by the power of the cross (Romans 5:19-21). Jesus carried our consequences on the cross (Isaiah 53:4-6). Example: A person who enters into sex outside of marriage and is infected with a sexually transmitted disease. Being infected with the disease could be considered a consequence of the sin that the person entered into. 4. The Law of Moses is a law of...reminder of sin/mistakes: Hebrews 10:3-4: One of the ways that the Law of Moses is a reminder of sin is that it continually entices our flesh to sin (Romans 7:5). death: 2 Corinthians 3:6-7: Death is a form of separation and the Law will separate you from whatever you are trying to experience in the Spirit. condemnation: 2 Corinthians 3:9: Condemnation destroys our confidence in approaching the presence of God. 1 John 3:21; Hebrews 4:16; 10:19 Note: But we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully, realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious (1 Timothy 1:8 9) If the Law of Moses is used properly and for the right reasons it is good Dealing Jesus 14

(5 Basic reasons why God purposes for the Law of Moses to be used). If the Moses not used properly there could be devastating results. Transitioning into the Law of Christ enables us to take on the heart of daughter/son. In order for us to take on the heart of a son or daughter of God, it is crucial for us to transition into living under the Law of Christ or called the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:2). Where the Law of Moses had numerous laws to externally do. The Law of Christ did not come into effect to do away with the Law of Moses, but to fulfill it (Matthew 5:17). The Law of Christ had only two actions to do from the Heart (Romans 8:17). Those two are actions are delineated in 1 John 3:23. The following are those two heart actions. 1. Love from the Heart: 1 Corinthians 13:1-4; Romans 13:9 2. Faith from the Heart: Romans 12:23-24; Hebrews 11:6 Note: The forces of the Law of Christ are mercy and grace (Hebrews 4:16). Part 2 The Embrace of Discipline enables us to be Transformed into Daughter/sons of God! Discipline of the Father is a Key to Transitioning from a child to the heart of daughters/sons - Heart/nature of the Father is to discipline (train a child): Hebrews 12:7 - Heart/nature of a son/daughter is be disciplined: - Difference between child and son/daughter is discipline: Hebrews 12:8 Dealing Jesus 15

The Danger of Enabling the Orphan, Slave or Child Mentality - If we are done for what we can do for ourselves we are being enabled: - When the pain of trial or temptation is relieved rather than dealing with the root, I am being enabled: James 1:2-13 Note: Understand the principle of comfort (paraklesis), called alongside of : 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 Goal of Discipline that Transitions us to Daughters and sons of God - We will not be condemned: 1 Corinthians 11:32 - We will receive and walk in knowledge: Proverbs 12:1; 15:32 - We will walk/live like God - Love: Hebrews 12:6 - Acceptance: Hebrews 12:6 - His holiness: Hebrews 12:10 - Peaceful fruit (Fruit of the Spirit): Hebrews 12:11 - Righteousness (The believing/trusting; faithful one) - Receive the power to make wealth: Deuteronomy 8:16-18 vs. Proverbs 13:18 Question: What enables discipline to transition us from a child to Daughter/Son Types and Responses of Discipline - Types of Discipline: Proverbs 3:11; Hebrews 12: Discipline (train up a child): Hebrews 12:5-6; Acts 7:22 2. Reprove (to show ones fault): Hebrews 12:5-6; John 3:20; Proverbs 6:23 3. Scourged/punishes us to discipline us: 1 Corinthians 11:32; Proverbs 22:15 - We are given what we want, but do not really want: Psalm 81:11 - We are given over to our sins/mistakes and they will reprove us: Dealing Jesus 16

Jeremiah 2:13-19; Galatians 6:6-8 Note: Reproof and punishment are to always be training/teaching. - We are given over to our antagonist: - Old Testament: Numbers 33:55; Joshua 23:13; Isaiah 47 - New Testament: Matthew 18:34-35; 1 Corinthians 5:4-5; 1 Timothy 1:20 - Negative responses to the Discipline of the Lord 1. Reject (To care little) discipline of the Lord: Hebrews 12:5; Proverbs 13:18 2. Faint (ekluo; loosen from) when reproved: Proverbs 15:10 1. Condemnation (pronounce sentence against): 1 John 3:21; Hebrews 4:16 2. Shame (to hide; to shrink away from): 2 Corinthians 4:2-3; 1 John 2:28 3. Sorrow according to the world: 2 Corinthians 7: Positive response to the discipline of the Lord - Repent and be zealous: Revelation 3:19 - Diligence: Proverbs 12:27; 2 Peter 1:5-ff - Rule: Proverbs 12:24; Rich: 10:4; Plans: 21:5; Full soul: 13:4 Part 3 The Release of the Blessing of Sonship Foundation Note: There comes a time when the nakedness/weakness of the Father is revealed, the response determines the release. Genesis 9: When the father s nakedness is revealed and the child exposes the father, it will sentence the child to slavery: Genesis 9:22 (Note: the child does not differ from a slave) - Ham looked at his father s nakedness to make judgments upon him. According to The Dictionary of Biblical Languages with Semantic Domains: Hebrew, the word looked means to see, look, view, i.e., use the perception of sight to view objects and make judgments based on the perceptions (Genesis 40:6). Dealing Jesus 17

- After observing the father s nakedness Ham then went out and spoke of the nakedness to his brothers: Genesis 9:22 - Ham observed to pick apart the weakness and/or exposure of the father and then further exposed Noah s nakedness to his brothers (Proverbs 11:13). 2. Shem and Japheth walked backwards (refused to look on Noah s nakedness) and covered Noah. Genesis 9:23 3. As a result Ham was sentenced to slavery and Shem and Japheth were blessed. Genesis 9:25-27 Summary: The key is the shadow or the heart of the matter. It does not mean sons tolerate a dad s faults, but it does mean that a son s heart is to make up for the dad s faults.
