1 Why It All Matters October 17, 2013 The Next Generation Deuteronomy 4:9-49 Page 1 We are in Moses to the people He is talking to the next generation These are the ones who will actually take possession of what God had promised to their parents We have the history We have the judgment We why we remain We have been reminded that we are to be an example to the nations Our lives and how we live as a nation will be the missionary message to the world God has informed the nation where they stand Psalm 33:8 12 Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. The LORD nullifies the counsel of the nations; He frustrates the plans of the peoples. The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of His heart from generation to generation. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance. Is our mission any different? Mark 16:15 And He said to them, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Isaiah 49:6 He says, It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also make You a light of the nations So that My salvation may reach to the end of the earth. Deuteronomy 4:9 Only give heed to yourself and keep your soul diligently, so that you do not forget the things which your eyes have seen and they do not depart from your heart all the days of your life; but make them known to your sons and your grandsons. What is the source of faith? Is it a reliance on abstract ideas or is it based in

2 Page 2 Israel is not a people of definers but a people of witnesses. In classical Jewish thought, the fact that the entire nation witnessed God speaking to Moses and that their testimony was transmitted to later generations by reliable tradition is the definitive evidence that the Torah is from God. The nation is being challenged in this just as we are As a result of cleaving and seeing the historicity of what it is they believe, Moses reminds them of more history and how then they should live

I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give to each man according to his ways, according to the results of his deeds. The peoples choice and ours Follow and See fruit or Psalm 115:4 8 Their idols are silver and gold, the work of man s hands. They have mouths, but they cannot speak; they have eyes, but they cannot see; they have ears, but they cannot hear; they have noses, but they cannot smell; they have hands, but they cannot feel; they have feet, but they cannot walk; they cannot make a sound with their throat. Those who make them will become like them, Everyone who trusts in them. We become like that which. Moses reminds the people that no one is He will not be going into the land due to his sin of misrepresenting God to the people God is jealous for his people and as such wants to be represented correctly to them Seeing Him for who He is attracts us to Him and He is jealous for us for that Ezekiel 39:25 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, Now I will restore the fortunes of Jacob and have mercy on the whole house of Israel; and I will be jealous for My holy name. Ezekiel 39:23 24 The nations will know that the house of Israel went into exile for their iniquity because they acted treacherously against Me, and I hid My face from them; so I gave them into the hand of their adversaries, and all of them fell by the sword. According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions I dealt with them, and I hid My face from them. How long did it take to drift? Moses writes Deuteronomy and then goes to Mt Nebo and dies 30 days later the nation crosses the Jordan

9 Page 9 Joshua dies at the age of 110 and most of the elders die around the same time When the next generation, of those who conquered the land took over Judges 2:11 12 Then the sons of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD and served the Baals, and they forsook the LORD, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods from among the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed themselves down to them; thus they provoked the LORD to anger. We are always just from apostasy Deuteronomy 4:30 When you are in distress and all these things have come upon you, in the latter days you will return to the LORD your God and listen to His voice. This is the first reference in the scriptures to the In the latter days is a technical term in the Old Testament which refers to the Great Tribulation period. J.
