1 18 Now where remission of these is / where there is full pardon; where there is release from payment of these sins and iniquities -- he is talking about our hideous guilt, there is no more offering for sin / No more offering is needed; because the price is PAID IN FULL! 19 Therefore, brothers, having boldness to enter the holiest / into the Most holy place, by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way, which He has consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, through His flesh; 21 And so having a High priest over the house of God / Hebrews 3 says, whose house we are; 22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith. Previously in Hebrews 6 we read, Be not sluggish and slothful and slow and inactive, but be diligent -- hardworking and attentive following those in faith to the full assurance of hope. But here we read Let us draw near / near to Him, our High priest with a true heart in full assurance of faith. The word for faith is: pistis. It s where we get the word: piston you know the moving component in the core of the engine that transfers force and moves all the parts! 2 and our bodies washed with pure water / being sprinkled with the blood of Jesus Christ; and washed by the power of His word! 23 Let us hold fast / the word is katecho: to hold tightly, even to restrain. Perhaps, this verse helps shed light on the evil one we read about in Thessalonians who wants to come to power, but cannot. Paul writes, You know what restrains and who restrains this antichrist. God s law restrains antichrist. And here in Hebrews, we read Let us hold tightly the profession of our hope / the word is elpis; why some translated faith who knows? Let us hold tightly the profession of our hope, without wavering / without vacillating; without losing our balance, our foothold; for He is faithful who promised / our High priest is faithful; What is being said in these verses? The Lord who made His covenant who gave His promise He is not like us -- His word is good! So, with your engines revved up and running your carcasses washed and ready to go hold on tight because we have a reason to get up, get moving and keep going! -- no matter what is happening all around us. Don t stumble; don t lose balance and fall because one day, the Lord will make good on all that He has promised. Just stick with Him! Verse 24 And let us consider how to provoke one another / not to anger and certainly not to poneros, evil works. That s not the work of the house of God. Wrong address! let us consider how to provoke one another to love and to good works / to God s love and His good works! And what is love? Obviously not sex. The first example of God s love to us is found on page ONE of the Bible Genesis 1, where God labored day after day to create and provide for the wellbeing of all those: He made in His Image and His likeness. God in all His greatness, didn t need even one of those apple or orange or olive or fig trees to enjoy His kingdom. Here we read After... we have received the knowledge of the truth / but it should probably be understood: After the knowledge of the Truth first reached down and grabbed us / if after all that we stubbornly insist on our way then there remains no more sacrifice for sins, 27 But / in that case we can look forward to a fearful judgment and fiery zeal, which will devour the adversaries / which will consume the opponents! We can count on it! God is powerful; He s not playing games. A great price has been paid to rescue us. Verse 28 anyone who despised Moses law died without mercy by the witness of only two or three: 29 So what do you suppose, how much worse punishment, will he deserve, who has trampled under their foot the Son of God, and regarded the blood of the covenant / the very method God chose, whereby we are sanctified / and set apart, to count it an unholy thing / a common, worthless thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? / and mocked the Spirit? 3 ilibros.net internacional 2012

4 30 For we know Him who said, Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord. And again, The Lord will judge His people. 31 It is a fearful / it is awful, dreadful, terrifying to fall into the hands of the living God. Like Dr. Dallas Willard says, We know God is powerful; and if His power is anything like electricity, then God Almighty is dangerous; and we better learn how to approach Him correctly. We need to know how to do it right! Because the stakes are great; and certainly dangerous! Verse 32 So remember the former days, after you were illuminated, you endured a great fight of afflictions / a great battle of suffering; 33 Partly, while you were made a gazing-stock / the word is: theatrizo; like theatrics; a laughing-stock, a spectacle by both reproaches and afflictions / by censures and criticisms and troubling pressures; and partly, while you all became companions of them that were so used / so misused! Some were the jailed; and some were the jailors who came to love them. 34 For you had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the sharing of your goods / or more likely, the confiscation of your goods, knowing that you have for yourself in heaven a better and enduring substance / and possession. Jesus is that better way. His way of faith and what we ve stored up in heaven is going to last forever. 35 therefore, cast not away / don t toss away your confidence, which will reward you greatly. 36 For you have need of endurance / you need to get tougher and grow up, after you have done the will of God, 4 ilibros.net internacional 2012

5 you will obtain the promise. 37 For yet a little while, and He who is coming will arrive, and will not tarry / and will not delay. 38 Now the just / the ones getting it right Now the just live by the faith: but if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him. 39 But we are not of those who draw back to perdition / who slide back into destruction; but of those who believe / again, it is the pistis word: of those moving with assurance of faith. So, with engines revved and pistons turning and sparkling carcasses on the move oh, maybe a little shaky at first, but with practice keep going having seen the houselights of our heavenly Father in the distance; and won t stop until we get all the way home!
