2 Forgiveness Luke 7:47 (NLT), I tell you, her sins and they are many have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.

4 Our Spirits Made Perfect Hebrews (NIV), to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24 to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24, (NLT), 23 Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. 24 God will make this happen, for he who calls you is faithful. 1 Corinthians 6:17, (NLT), 17 But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him.

5 Forgiven Colossians 2 13 (NIV), When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross.

6 Jesus Paid it All Isaiah 53 (NIV), 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. 6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

7 Perfect vs. Imperfect Cleansing Hebrews 10:1-4 (NLT), The old system under the law of Moses was only a shadow, a dim preview of the good things to come, not the good things themselves. The sacrifices under that system were repeated again and again, year after year, but they were never able to provide perfect cleansing for those who came to worship. 2 If they could have provided perfect cleansing, the sacrifices would have stopped, for the worshipers would have been purified once for all time, and their feelings of guilt would have disappeared. 3 But instead, those sacrifices actually reminded them of their sins year after year.

8 Single vs. Multiple Sacrifices Hebrews 10:11-18 (NLT), 11 Under the old covenant, the priest stands and ministers before the altar day after day, offering the same sacrifices again and again, which can never take away sins. 12 But our High Priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time. Then he sat down in the place of honor at God s right hand.

9 Forgiven, Period! 13 There he waits until his enemies are humbled and made a footstool under his feet. 14 For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy. 15 And the Holy Spirit also testifies that this is so. For he says, 16 This is the new covenant I will make with my people on that day, says the LORD: I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds. 17 Then he says, I will never again remember their sins and lawless deeds. 18 And when sins have been forgiven, there is no need to offer any more sacrifices.

10 Won t this Promote Sin? Romans 6:14 (NLT), 14 Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God s grace. Romans 6:1 (NIV), What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Romans 3:8 (NIV), Why not say as some slanderously claim that we say Let us do evil that good may result? Their condemnation is just!

11 To Continue in Sin Hebrews 10:26-29 (NLT), 26 Dear friends, if we deliberately continue sinning after we have received knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice that will cover these sins. 27 There is only the terrible expectation of God s judgment and the raging fire that will consume his enemies. 28 For anyone who refused to obey the law of Moses was put to death without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 Just think how much worse the punishment will be for those who have trampled on the Son of God, and have treated the blood of the covenant, which made us holy, as if it were common and unholy, and have insulted and disdained the Holy Spirit who brings God s mercy to us.

12 Remember When Hebrews 10:32-39 (NLT), 32 Think back on those early days when you first learned about Christ. Remember how you remained faithful even though it meant terrible suffering. 33 Sometimes you were exposed to public ridicule and were beaten, and sometimes you helped others who were suffering the same things. 34 You suffered along with those who were thrown into jail, and when all you owned was taken from you, you accepted it with joy. You knew there were better things waiting for you that will last forever. 35 So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! 36 Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised. 37 For in just a little while, the Coming One will come and not delay. 38 And my righteous ones will live by faith.* But I will take no pleasure in anyone who turns away. * 39 But we are not like those who turn away from God to their own destruction. We are the faithful ones, whose souls will be saved.

13 The Good News Acts 8:35 (NIV), 35 Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus. Acts 13:32 (NIV), 32 We tell you the good news: What God promised our fathers 33 he has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus. Acts 14:6-7 (NIV), 6 But they found out about it and fled to the Lycaonian cities of Lystra and Derbe and to the surrounding country, 7 where they continued to preach the good news. Romans 10:15b-17 (NIV), As it is written, How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news! 16 But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, Lord, who has believed our message? i 17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.
