1 INTRO: I. The Genealogy From Adam to Noah. (5) A. Adam. (v. 1-5) 1. Adam - Heb. Man; Mankind 2. (v. 2) and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created. a. blessed - Heb. kneel; congratulate; pronounced blessing; invocation of blessing 1) God performed the 1st Wedding Ceremony, in a Garden 2) We have the picture of God having them kneel down and publicly pronouncing blessing over them. b. called - heb. proclaimed; shouted; read aloud 1) The 1st Pronouncement of Husband and Wife c. their name Adam 1) This was the 1st time a Wife took the name of her Husband Mr. and Mrs. Adam a) Not Adam-Eve. b) Not 3. (v. 3) a son in his own likeness, after his image a. Here we see the hereditary fallen nature, and moral corruption, that is passed down from Adam (our Federal Head) to his descendants (Us) Hereditary Depravity. 1 of 13

2 1) Cf. Psalm 51:5 - Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. 2) Cf. Romans 5:12, Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:... For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. 3) Cf. Ephesians 2:3 - Without Christ, we were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. 4. (v. 5) and he died. a. NOTE: God told Adam, For in the day that you eat thereof, you shall surely die, (2:17) and that s exactly what happened 930 years later. After a long life, Adam eventually returned unto dust (3:19). 1) Cf. Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. 2) Cf. 1 Corinthians 15: For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. B. Seth. (v. 6-8) 1. Seth - Heb. Appointed 2 of 13

3 C. Enos. (v. 9-11) 1. Enos - Heb. Mortal; Frailty, idea of Subject to Death D.Cainan. (v ) 1. Cainan - Heb. Fixed ; Dwelling Place" E. Mahalaleel. (v ) 1. Mahalaleel - Heb. Praise God" F. Jared. (v ) 1. Jared - Heb. Descent; One comes down G.Enoch. (v ) 1. Enoch - Heb. Dedicated; Consecrated a. NOTE: Enoch was the first prophet in the Bible, and he prophesied of the 2nd Coming of Christ 1) Cf. Jude And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. 2. (v. 22) And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah a. NOTE: Enoch started to walk with God at 65 years old (v. 21) It s never too late to start walking with God 3 of 13

Like Enoch, God wants you to walk with Him And there will come a generation of believers that, like Enoch, will be translated and caught away 1) Christianity is walking with God (i.e. fellowship with God) a) God never intended you to walk alone. (3:8) 3. (v. 24) The 1st Rapture of the Bible a. Cf. Hebrews 11:5 - By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. 1) Enoch was not found That means they were looking for him Enoch was on the ancient milk cartons Where s Enoch? Where did he go? He was here for 365 years. He couldn t have just disappeared 2) NOTE: The only other person that never died was Elijah (cf. 2 Kings 2:11) H.Methuselah. (v ) 1. Methuselah - Heb. Dying, He shall send a. NOTE: The oldest man that ever lived was outlived by his father 1) Oldest man = Methuselah (969 years old) 2) His father? = Enoch (taken at 365 years old and didn t die, thus now over 5,000 years old) b. NOTE: Adam knew Methuselah for 243 years 4 of 13

5 c. NOTE: Enoch was a prophet, and gave his son a prophetic name. As long as Methuselah was alive, the Flood would not come. 1) Q = Can you imagine how everyone reacted whenever he d get sick? Oh no Here it comes The signs of the times We re getting close 2) KEY: Methuselah died in the year 1656 after Creation, thus the Flood happened 1656 years after Creation d. KEY: Methuselah died at 969 years old, and in the year that he died, the Flood came. What does that tell you about God? He is so patient and didn t want to send a big Flood I. Lamech. (v ) 1. Lamech - Heb. Lowly; Depressed; Despairing a. KEY: Lamech overlapped Adam by 56 years, thus probably knew Adam. 1) Lamech died 5 years before Methuselah his father. I can t imagine the heartbreak of Methuselah when his son Lamech died J. Noah. (v. 32) 1. Noah - Heb. Rest; Comfort 5 of and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth. a. Shem was not the firstborn, but because his line is from which the Messiah will come, he s mentioned first. 1) Japheth was the oldest (10:21; 1 Chron. 1:5), then Shem (10:21; 1 Chron. 1:24), and then Ham (9:24; 10:6 ; 1 Chron. 1:8).

6 a) NOTE: 2 years after the Flood, Shem was 100 years old (11:10), thus Shem was 98 years old when the Flood came. So, Noah was 502 years old when Shem was born (1558). b. KEY: The first 2,158 years of history are covered by three men whose lives overlap - Adam, Methuselah, and Shem 1) NOTE: After the flood, Shem overlapped and knew Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob Shem even outlived Abraham by 35 years 6 of 13

7 K. A Hidden Gospel message in the names? 1. (v. 4) Adam = Man 2. (v. 4) Seth = Appointed 3. (v. 6) Enos = Mortal or Frailty, idea of Subject to Death 4. (v. 9) Cainan = Fixed ; Dwelling Place 5. (v. 12) Mahalaleel = Praise God 6. (v. 15) Jared = Descent or One comes down 7. (v. 18) Enoch = Dedicated; Consecrated 8. (v. 21) Methuselah = Dying, He shall send 9. (v. 25) Lamech = Lowly; Depressed; Despairing 10.(v. 29) Noah = Rest; Comfort a. Man - Appointed - A Mortal Subject to Death - (in his) Dwelling Place, - Praise God - One Comes Down - Dedicated - Dying, He Shall Send - the Lowly and Despairing, - Comfort and Rest. - The Gospel Hidden in the Genealogy L. Cf. Matthew 24: Jesus said in His Olivet Discourse, But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 1. KEY: Jesus verified the great Flood, but He also encouraged His disciples to study the characteristics of the days before the Flood because those would characterize the Last Days before His Return 7 of 13

8 II.The Days of Noah. (6) 8 of 13 A. Population Explosion. (v. 1) 1. when men began to multiply on the face of the earth a. It s hard to give an actual number of the population before the Flood, but some estimate between 5 17 billion people, probably about 10 billion. b. There are records of massive ancient settlements all over the 7 continents where people have lived that we never knew of before. 1) There is technology today that we have no idea how ancient man did certain things: a) Stonehenge, the Pyramids in Egypt, etc i. The Great Pyramid: a. BIG - weighs 6 million tons, its footprint is 13 acres, more than 750 feet along each side, 481 feet tall, 2 1/2 million individual blocks of stone used in construction b. PRECISE - locked in to the Cardinal dimensions of our planet, targeted on true north within 3/60 of a single degree; incorporated the dimensions of our planet i. If you multiply the height of the Great Pyramid (481 feet) by 43,200 you get the Polar Radius of the earth. ii. If you measure the base perimeter of the Great Pyramid, and multiply that by 43,200 you get the

9 Equatorial Circumference of the earth. iii. NOTE: For thousands of years, before modern scientists even discovered it, the Great Pyramid has been encoded and speaks out the dimensions of our planet of 1 to 43,200 9 of 13 B. Occultic and Demonic Activity. (v. 2-4) 1. (v. 2) the sons of God a. Q = Who are these sons of God? 1) They are distinct from the men and daughters of men (v. 1), and are a 3rd group. 2) The phrase in Hebrew is B nai HaElohim ( sons of Elohim ), which is a term CONSISTENTLY used in the O.T. for Angels, and is never used of believers in the O.T. a) Cf. Job 1:6 2:13; 38:7; etc. b) The LXX translates it sons of angels. c) NOTE: There are those that want to say that the daughters of men were the ungodly line of Cain and the sons of God were the godly line of Seth. However, there are major problems with that view, and it s a forced interpretation. i. There was no godly line (4:29; 6:12) a. Q = If Seth s line was so godly, why did they all die in the Flood? Only 9 were spared, Noah s family and Enoch

10 ii. That doesn t explain the Unnatural Offspring. a. Believers marrying unbelievers may produce monsters, but not superhuman children 3) These are the specific group of Fallen Angels referred to in the New Testament that were so bad that God had to chain them up in the lowest parts of Hell. a) Cf. 2 Peter 2:4-6 - For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell [Tarterus], and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; b) Cf. Jude And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. c) NOTE: There are those that question this because they misread what Jesus said and believe that Angels are sexless. Not so. i. Cf. Matthew 22:30 - For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are 10 of 13

11 given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. a. KEY: Jesus said that they don t marry, but said nothing about anatomy. ii. KEY: Whenever Angels appear in the Bible, they always take on a male, human form. b. KEY: The world was so corrupted by the depravity of man, that people were involved with the Occult and allowed demons to do unspeakable things to them. 1) Today, many people open themselves up to Occultic realms through altered states of consciousness (i.e. Eastern Mysticism; Yoga; Drug Use; etc.) a) There are those that speak of UFOs and Aliens visiting them, and I believe that many of these people have genuine experiences in an altered state, but that these Aliens are nothing more than Demons deceiving people through these supernatural, paranormal experiences. c. NOTE: There was worldwide Occultic and Demonic activity before the time of the Flood, so it shouldn t surprise us that many women would be taken advantage of and have depraved sexual experiences with demons. 1) Cf. Ephesians 5: There are a lot of sick fetishes and things people get into today that, like Paul said to the church at Ephesus, And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. 12 speak of those things which are done of them in secret. d. KEY: The Occult, even in subtle forms, is becoming a Worldwide phenomena. 1) Satanism/Luciferianism and the Occult is becoming mainstream. a) TV shows called Lucifer ; Paranormal ; etc. 2) This last week (10/4), Miley Cyrus was asked by a fan, Hey Miley, do you have any advice for any of your fans that might want to follow in your footsteps and become a star? To which she responded: "Yeah: If you wanna be famous, and rich, it's easy But don't ask me, you need to ask Satan. You can have it all. As a nervous laugh spread through the crowd, Cyrus stopped her bodyguards, seemingly annoyed by the response, and turned back to the crowd saying: You think I'm joking? You asked me how to make it as a pop star and I just told you everything you need to do. If you want everything that I have, then all you have to do is ask Satan for it and you can have it. You need to stop asking Santa for Christmas presents and praying to Jesus because none of them exist.
