Introduction 6

Faith [47] The theory of evolution is like the imaginary chair which science sits upon. 7

Faith The idea of purpose and design in the world is called teleology (tel-e-ol-ogy). [47] Creationists believe that the Designer, God, created the universe and the world, for a purpose. We can see evidence of God in what He has made. 8

Evolution or Creation [47] What a person believes about origins will help determine his lifestyle. If evolution is true, then life is without purpose. If creation by God is true, then life has meaning, direction and purpose. Many of Man s social problems are a direct result of faulty understanding of origins. Let s now see what the Bible has to say about creation, and compare it with the theory of evolution. 9

Romans 1:20 ROM 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 10

Foundation [47] God has made a record of His works of creation in the first chapter of Genesis. If there was no Designer, then we are nothing more than animals evolved from lower forms. We then have no code of absolute morals, such as those contained in the Bible. We then must look to social planners for our salvation. [47] 11

Foundation The study of Genesis is foundational to the understanding of the rest of the Bible. What you believe about Genesis will affect what you believe about the rest of the Bible. If Genesis can be proven false then the rest of the Bible is based on a false foundation. 12

Jesus accepted Genesis as true. Jesus accepted Genesis as true, as we can see from the following verses: MAT 19:4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, MAT 24:37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away. 13

THE SEEDPLOT Genesis is considered the Seedplot of the Bible because of the many foundational truths that take root there. God is revealed. The origin of the world. The Trinity is hinted. Man is introduced. Satan is exposed. The sovereignty of God is established. The truth of salvation is displayed. 14

THE SEEDPLOT (Continued) Justification by faith is made known. The believer's security. God's discipline. The rapture. The woman's Seed. The Incarnation Who would bruise the serpent's head. The coming antichrist. The Priesthood of Christ is anticipated, after the order of Melchzedek. And others. 15

It is also the book of firsts. The Creator. The beginning of time and creation. The first marriage. The first sin. The first sacrifice. The first murder. The first covenant. The chosen people. The plan of salvation. 16

The book of firsts (continued) The promises. Types of the redeemer. The Patriarchs. Man s failures and dependence on God s mercy. God s love for His creation. God s disappointments. Man s utter wickedness. God s judgments. God s restoration. 17

The First Key - Time 18

In the Beginning Genesis 1:1 In the Beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 19

Genesis 1:1 -- Beginning Genesis 1:1 In the beginning In Hebrew, Bereshit means Beginning. It signifies that: Time begins with the act of creation. Before this point time does not exist. God is outside time. 20

John 1:1-3 John, refering back to Genesis 1:1, is indicating the eternal preexistance of Christ, and proclaiming His Deity. JOH 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 21

Purpose God had a purpose in creation. That purpose was expressed before time began. 22

BEFORE TIME BEGAN 2 TIMOTHY 1:9 who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, (NKJV) TITUS 1:2 in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began, (NJKV) 23

ECCLESIASTES 3:14-15 Ecclesiastes 3:14 & 15 compares eternity in relation to time. ECC 3:14-15 I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him. That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past. 24

God is Outside Time These verses in Eccleasiastes indicate that: God is not limited by time. God is outside time. In 2 Peter 3:8 and 9 we see time mentioned: 25

2 Peter 3:8-9 2PE 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 26

God is Not Limited by Time [43] A day is as a thousand years. This does not mean that days to God are a thousand years duration, but simply that, God is not limited by time, to Him a thousand years seems like one day. Time means nothing to God. This concept is also reinforced by Psalm 90: 27

Psalm 90:4 PSA 90:4 For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night. God is outside time, He created time. Since God is not limited by time, He can do in a literal twenty-four hour day what would take man or nature a very long time to accomplish. [41] This verse refers to God not being bound by time. [41] 28

Current Young Earth Theories [2;11;13] Currently there are two young earth creationist theories regarding time and supporting a six-day creation. The one proposed by Barry Setterfield is that the speed of light has been slowing down since creation. He has evidence and calculations in support of this, and continues to defend this theory. (Continued) 29

Current Young Earth Theories [13] He has support for his theory, as other scientists and mathematicians have validated his calculation. Scientists who have opposed his theory have been shown errors in their calculations. (Continued) 30

Current Young Earth Theories [2;11] Setterfield shows that the speed of light would have approached infinity 6,000 to 8,000 years ago. This makes possible, in natural terms, the positioning of the stars at great distances, and the light reaching earth almost instantaneously, allowing a six-day creation. Keep in mind that Einstein s theory of Relativity (E=MC 2 ) shows that energy, mass, and the speed of light are interrelated. 31

Current Young Earth Theories Another theory by Dr. Russell Humphreys says that gravity distorts time. He believes that space is not infinite, but has boundaries. It has been demonstrated that clocks at the top of tall buildings, where gravity is slightly less, run faster. [2] (Continued) 32

Current Young Earth Theories There is a great deal more to this theory, but essentially to an observer on earth, creation occurred in six days, while in the extreme reaches of space creation was taking billions of years. [2] I believe God doesn t need either of these theories, because, by His word instantaneous creation of distant stars and planets could occur including the waves of light reaching all points of the universe, including earth. 33

LINEAR (FINITE) AND NON-LINEAR (ETERNITY) TIME GEN 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. The word beginning signifies a starting point for time. If there was a beginning of time, then God brought time into existence by the act of creating the heaven and the earth. 34

LINEAR (FINITE) AND NON-LINEAR (ETERNITY) TIME Since God is not bound by time, He sees the beginning and the end. He is the Alpha and the Omega. In fact, the end has already occurred in God s realm, the realm that is outside of time. This answers the question of how God can be omniscient (all knowing). 35

LINEAR (FINITE) AND NON-LINEAR (ETERNITY) TIME An understanding of time in the sense that God is outside time allows us to understand the nature of prophecy. God truly sees the end and the beginning and everything in between. God is outside time. 36

LINEAR (FINITE) AND NON-LINEAR (ETERNITY) TIME Eternity is a state where time does not exist. If you add or subtract from it you still have the same amount left. As the old hymn goes the nice thing about eternity is that we have the same amount of time left to praise His name as when we first begun. Linear Time, the time in which we live, is finite, adding or subtracting will change its length. 37

The Second Key God 38

God [29] In the following clip, Note how atheist/evolutionist Richard Dawkins feels about the existence of God in this interview with Ben Stein. EXPELLED, w/ Ben Stein, Vivendi Entertainment and Premise Media Corporation,

GOD 40

GOD Genesis 1:1 In the Beginning God God = Elohim Plural name with a singular meaning. God is one, yet more than one. First suggestion of Trinity. Elohim = Gods, or The Mighty Ones. 41

False Religions Disposed Of [87] In Genesis 1:1, God denies atheism by proclaiming His existence. Polytheism (many gods) is also denied by God s declaration of oneness. Pantheism (nature is god) is disposed of by God s separateness from matter. Verse one thus disposes of all other religious practices, whether those that deny His existence, or those that would proclaim any other god, or nature as 42 god.

Attack on the Foundation Genesis 1:1 is the foundation of the whole Bible. It says that God exists and that He is eternal. It s this foundation that the humanists and skeptics are shooting at. If they can destroy this foundation they can void the foundation that Jesus is God. They do not need to attack the Gospel directly. They attack it by attacking Genesis. 43

ELOHIM (God) [44;66] In Genesis 1:1 Elohim, translated God, is the plural of Eloah. Elohim (Gods) is written with the singular verb "bara" (created). This prohibits any thought of polytheism - it implies the Trinity. 44

ELOHIM (God) [44;66] In Hebrew, "Created" [bara], as a singular, requires a singular subject, but instead we find a plural form of "God" [Elohim]. In the Beginning God [Elohim] created [bara] Plural Singular 45

Does God exist? Does God Exist? [44] Have you been everywhere in the universe so that you can say that you ve been there and haven t found Him? How much of the Universe have you explored? There are four basic arguments for the existence of God. 46

The Ontological Argument [56;111] That man can even conceive of the existance of God is called the Ontological Argument. This is an argument based on deductive reasoning. This argument reasons that the idea of a perfect and infinite Being cannot be derived from a finite and imperfect human being. 47

The Anthropological Argument [15;56;99;111] The Anthropological Argument argues that if man is moral (has a conscience) and intelligent, then what caused him to exist must have similar or greater attributes. Are you aware of your own existence? If you are aware of your existence then Whoever caused you to exist must be aware of His existence and therefore a Great Person. That Great Person must have similar but greater attributes to yours. 48

The Teleological Argument [56;111] The Teleological Argument reasons that since we see design and order in the universe, it must have had a designer. If the universe had a designer, then, that Designer must be God. 49

The Cosmological Argument [15;56;86;111] The Cosmological Argument goes like this: Everything that exists has a cause of its existence. The universe exists. Therefore: The universe has a cause of its existence. If the universe has a cause of its existence, then that cause is God. Therefore: God exists. 50

The Law of Cause and Effect [70] The most basic of scientific principals is the Law of Cause and Effect. The law states that although one cause can have many effects, no effect can be greater or superior to its cause. Cause Effects 51

The Law of Cause and Effect [69] THE EFFECT CAN NEVER BE GREATER OR SUPERIOR TO ITS CAUSE A chain of effects must eventually trace back to an essentially infinite first cause. The First Cause of limitless space must be infinite. The First Cause of endless time must be eternal. The First Cause of boundless energy must be omnipotent (All Powerful). (Continued) 52

The Law of Cause and Effect [69] The First Cause of infinite complexity must be omniscient (All knowing). The First Cause of love must be loving. The First Cause of life must be living. 53

The Law of Cause and Effect [69] Thus, the First Cause of the Universe must be an infinite, eternal, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent (everywhere at once), personal, volitional (having a free will), holy, loving, living being. Laws infer intelligence. God made the laws. 54

The Third Key Created 55

Created Genesis 1:1 Created In the Beginning God Created Created from the Hebrew Bara, meaning called into existence from no existence. 56

Created ROM 4:17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. HEB 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. PSA 33:6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. 57

Choice Eternal God or Eternal Matter Our choice is between eternal God or eternal matter. The Law of Cause and Effect says that the universe did not create itself. Random particles of matter do not become orderly by themselves. 58

Choice Eternal God or Eternal Matter Keil and Delitzsch, commenting on "bara" (to create) in Genesis 1:1 writes: In this verse, however, the existence of any primeval material is precluded by the object created: the heaven and the earth. [54] 59

Choice Eternal God or Eternal Matter Therefore, creation is out of nothing -- no preexisting material. We must consider three basic laws of physics when we consider whether evolution, or special creation, is true. 60

Three Basic Laws There are three basic laws to consider The Law of Cause and Effect And The 1 st and 2 nd Laws of Thermodynamics 61

The Law of Cause and Effect (In The Beginning God Created...) Cause Effect THE EFFECT CAN NEVER BE GREATER OR SUPERIOR TO ITS CAUSE Evolution does not account for the first cause of either: TIME, MATTER (OR ENERGY), OR SPACE, because evolution accepts, as fact, effects greater than its cause. * 62

LAW OF CONSERVATION - (1ST LAW OF THERMODYNAMICS) Matter cannot be created or destroyed. Matter can be converted to Energy and Visa Versa (according to Einstein s equation E=MC 2 ) Evolution does not answer the question: Where does Time, Matter (or Energy) or Space come from? Creation must be a supernatural act. 63

LAW OF ENTROPY (2ND LAW OF THERMODYNAMICS) Everything is running down. Do you doubt this? - Look in the mirror. * CREATION FALL ORDER ENTROPY DISORDER TIME 64

LAW OF ENTROPY (2ND LAW OF THERMODYNAMICS) We need to recognize that the creative process was complete during the six days of creation. Evolutionists would have you believe that modern natural processes are a continuation of creation in violation of the Law of Entropy. (This Law, in regards to death of man and animals, went into effect because of the curse due to sin in the Garden). [93] 65

The 2 nd Law of Thermodynamics essentially says: [66;93] Every system left unattended tends to move from order to disorder. The universe is moving toward disorder, and organisms are moving towards dust. GEN 3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. 66

The 2 nd Law of Thermodynamics In time, all the energy in the universe will become random low-level heat (heat death), and the universe will have died. [47] Evolution requires billions of years of violation of the 2 nd Law of Thermodynamics. [47] A seemingly momentary increase in order, such as the seed becoming a plant, is accomplished by a decrease in order by decay and death. The information was already in the seed and the plant. [47] 67

The 2 nd Law of Thermodynamics An input of energy in the earth s system from the Sun does not account for the conversion of energy required for evolution. [47] The creative process involves creating material from nothing. The creative process is no longer happening. 68

The 2 nd Law of Thermodynamics The 2 nd Law of Thermodynamics is in effect. Science cannot measure a process that is no longer happening, thus science can only measure, or observe, the processes of entropy (disorder) and conservation. [47] The evolutionist is always faced with the question: How did life begin without the pre-existence of intelligent order and design? [47] 69

EVOLUTION VIOLATES THE LAWS Evolution violates the known and proven laws of physics The Second Law of Thermodynamics says that everything is moving from order to chaos. Evolution says that everything is moving from chaos to order, getting better and better. We don't find this to be true in either biological or social systems. 70

The Law of Cause and Effect implies that there must be a First Cause. Evolution would have us believe that the universe itself was the first cause; a violation of the First Law of Thermodynamics which says that matter can neither be created, nor destroyed. Reason dictates that there must be a Universal First Cause and that the First Cause has created personalities with awareness of their individual existence s. The First Cause must therefore have similar, but infinitely greater attributes. 71

Similar, but Greater, Attributes Genesis 1:26 and 27 speaks of this Law of Cause and Effect: GEN 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 72

The First Cause Must Be Supernatural That Universal First Cause must be outside the laws now governing the Universe, that is, that First Cause must be supernatural. There is no known mechanism to show how life could have begun spontaneously [evolution] without intelligent direction in defiance of overwhelming mathematical odds. 73

5 Minute Break 74

THE SCIENCE OF CREATION Lesson Keys To Creation 10 Keys To Understanding Creation In Genesis 1:1-3 Genesis 1:1-3 1 In the Beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 75

Some Fallacies of Evolution 76

Some Fallacies of Evolution [66] Evolution supposedly explains the "creation" of all things in terms of present processes But, the first law of thermodynamics says that nothing now is being created. Evolution presupposes an innate tendency towards progress, increasing order, and complexity in the universe But, the second law of thermodynamics proves there is an innate tendency towards decay and disorder in the universe. 77

Some Fallacies of Evolution [11;66] Evolution supposedly is brought about by gene mutations, but almost 100 per cent of all known mutations are harmful or even fatal to the creatures that experience them. No example of true evolution from one basic "kind" into another "kind" is known either in the present world or in the fossil record of the past. Evolutionary kinship of all creatures would imply a continuous intergrading of all forms of life, but both present life and the records of past life show great gaps between all the different kinds of plants and animals. 78

Some Fallacies of Evolution [66] Natural selection supposedly accounts for the development of new kinds, but actually tends to preserve the present kinds, since an incipient organ or new feature of any kind would have no "survival" value unless it were fully functional from its very beginning. (Incipient = beginning to be) 79

Some Fallacies of Evolution [66] Evolution contradicts the scientific law that no effect can be greater than its cause, since it assumes that: 1. Intelligence was developed from non-intelligent matter. 2. Morality was evolved from non-moral processes. 3. Love and other emotional qualities came out of unfeeling chemicals. 4. Infinitely complex structures arose from simple beginnings, 5. Spiritual consciousness began out of inert molecules. 80

The Fourth Key Space & Matter 81

Genesis 1:1 - Heaven and Earth Genesis 1:1 - Heaven and Earth In the Beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Heaven (Shamayim) - Corresponds to our word space. Earth (Erets) - Corresponds to matter. With matter, energy is implied because energy and matter are related, convertible from one to the other, according to Einstein s equation E=MC 2. 82

Laying A Foundation In Genesis 1:1, God is laying the foundation. HEBREWS 1:10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth 83

Time & Space [94] The presence of energy and matter of the Universe causes the existence of time and space. 84

The Trinity of Creation [69] Throughout creation we see a trinity represented: GOD ( ELOHIM, A Plural Singular) Father, Son, & Holy Spirit UNIVERSE Heaven (Space), Beginning (Time), & Earth (Matter) MAN Body, Soul, & Spirit 85

The Trinity of Creation [69] The word for God, Elohim, hints of the Trinity of God. The Trinity of Creation is given in the words "beginning," "heavens," and "earth," signifying "time," "space," and "mass," the essential ingredients of the universe. 86

More Trinity [44] The Trinity of Creation extends to the smallest units of matter, for example, The Atom, which can be divided into Proton, Neutron, and Electron. Each of these can be further divided into three smaller particles. The smallest building block of the universe that we know of is a trinity of Quarks, Leptons, and Gluons. 87

The meaning of Genesis 1:1 The meaning of Genesis 1:1 is essentially: In the beginning of time the transcendent, omnipotent Godhead called into existence from nothingness the space-mass-time universe. (Henry Morris) 88

The Fifth Key - Without Form And Void 89

Genesis 1:2 - Without Form And Void Genesis 1:2 Gen 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 90

The Earth GEN 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void The "earth" is the unformed matter created in verse 1. 91

Was GEN 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void Gap theorists believe that the reading should be "the earth became" instead of "was." They believe that there was a previous creation, which accounts for the fossil record. 92

The Gap Theory A problem with the Gap Theory is that sin and death would have been in the world before the "fall. How then could God say, in Genesis 1:31 and 2:1, the creation was "very good? 93

Very Good GEN 1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. GEN 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. Sin and death could not have been in God's creation for Him to say "everything that He had made was very good." 94

Theories Attempts at harmonization of science and the Bible have led to various liberal theories to include long time periods in order to reconcile the first chapter of Genesis to the theory of evolution. These include: The Gap Theory Theistic Evolution The Day Age Theory Progressive Creation The Framework Hypothesis The Big Bang Theory 95

The Gap Theory The Gap Theory [47] This theory suggests that Genesis 1:2 should read, Now the earth became (instead of was) formless and empty. The theory postulates that the original creation came to a sudden and cataclysmic ruin, usually associated with the fall of Lucifer. This gap is considered to be between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2. This is said to account for the fossils that we dig up. 96

The Gap Theory (Continued) [47] A major problem with this theory is that while attempting to reconcile evolution to the Bible, and to provide the long time frame, it doesn t address the fact that the theory brings into the universe, and the earth, sin and death before the fall of man in the Biblical narrative. Gap theorists reason that since God is not the God of chaos, he could have not created the chaos indicated by without form and void. 97

The Gap Theory (Continued) Gap Theorists take their greatest comfort from Isaiah 45:18: Isa 45:18 For thus says the LORD, who created the heavens (he is God!), who formed the earth and made it (he established it; he did not create it a chaos, he formed it to be inhabited!): "I am the LORD, and there is no other. RSV They do not apply the correct interpretation of Genesis 1:2, by not seeing the continued thought of the Hebrew from Genesis 1:1 as indicated by the word and, translated correctly in the KJV. 98

The Gap Theory (Continued) Notice the word and referring back to the created elements of verse one. Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the Heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth [building blocks; matter of verse one] was without form, and void; and darkness [no light; not yet energized] was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. KJV Bracketed words added for clarity of interpretation. 99

The Gap Theory (Continued) [47] Gap theorists believe that verse 2 describes a chaos of a pre-adamic world, which accounts for the fall of Satan, and the fossilized remains of dinosaurs, etc. Gap theorists fail to realize that God is simply going to organize the un-energized elements created by Him in Genesis 1:1. It s not that God created chaos, but that he created the building blocks He would use in forming the earth and everything in it. 100

Theistic Evolution Theistic Evolution is an attempt to harmonize the Bible to the theory of evolution by saying that God used evolution to develop the Universe and man, and put His image (spirit) in him when the ape that became man was ready. Major problem - violence and death were in the world before the fall. Many Catholic theologians and liberal Protestants hold this view. 101

The Day Age Theory [47] The Day Age Theory suggests that the six days of creation represent ages, long time periods, rather than literal days. This theory allows: 1. The biologists the time he needs. 2. The geologist the sequence he wants. 3. Acceptance of the theory of evolution. 4. The Day Age Theory dates from the rise of geology in the early 1800's. 5. This theory allows long time periods for each day of Genesis. 102

The Day Age Theory [47] Problems with the theory include: 1. It ignores the creation sequence presented by the Bible. 2. How do the fruit trees created on the third day survive through the long age without the sun, which was created on the fourth day? a. The fruit trees depend on pollination by either birds (fifth day) or insects (sixth day). 103

Progressive Creation [92] Progressive Creationism represents the belief that the days of creation in Genesis 1 refer to long ages of death and suffering. The problem with this theory is that it allows death before sin. 104

Progressive Creation [115] According to Progressive Creationist, Astronomer, Dr. Hugh Ross, Progressive Creation is defined as: The hypothesis that God has increased the complexity of life on earth by successive creations of new life forms over billions of years while miraculously changing the earth to accommodate the new life. 105

Framework Hypothesis [65;116] The Framework Hypothesis attempts to allegorize Scriptures that make reference to facts about the past. It says that Genesis presents only spiritual implications, not historical or scientific implications. Therefore, Genesis is not history, but only a literary framework in which God teaches us about Himself and His creation. 106

The Big Bang Theory The Big Bang Theory presents the idea that the Universe and everything in it was the result of the explosion of a tiny ball of energy. The result of the explosion is that Matter is formed by the acceleration of energy (energy and matter are convertible, one to the other). 107

The Big Bang Theory Einstein s Law of Relativity regarding time says that time is relative. Theologians that try to fit this theory into the Bible narrative say that, from God s vantage point, the first day was literally one day even though billions of years might have passed. Therefore, the supposed fifteen billion years of the universe are squeezed into the literal six days of creation by the dilation of time. From man s vantage point, man or time did not exist until the sixth day. 108

The Big Bang Theory Another problem for the Big Bang theorists is that the present time scale for the Universe of fifteen billion years depends on the Big Bang Theory being true. It is, in effect, an assumption. 109

The Big Bang Theory If we hold the Steady State Model Theory instead of the Big Bang Model Theory then the age of the Universe would be something else (Eternal Universe with spontaneous generation of new matter). In fact our knowledge of the Universe is based on the Cosmological Models that we build. We need to know the condition of the Universe before we can get correct measurements, but we need those measurements to determine the condition. A bit of circular reasoning is used. 110

The Literal-Historical Theory [47] The Literal-Historical Theory takes the Bible at its word. It accepts the recent six days of creation as literal twenty-four hour days. The Literal-Historical Theory is the approach we take in our study of CREATION. 111

Tohu waw Bohu GEN 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void Without form and void = Tohu waw Bohu Tohu waw Bohu may be rendered unformed and uninhabited. The basic elements created in verse one have not yet been formed. 112

Tohu waw Bohu [28] As we move through the verses of Genesis chapter one, we will find that the first three days will correct the without form condition; and the second three days will correct the void or unfilled condition. These two divisions are acts of dividing and furnishing. The first three days of dividing parallel the last three days of filling. 113

The Correspondence Between Days 1-3 And 4-6 The Creative Acts To correct the "without form" condition: Three acts of dividing To correct the "void" condition: Three acts of furnishing Day 1 - Light from darkness Day 2 - Upper waters from expanse and lower waters Day 3 - Lower waters from dry land Day 4 - Luminaries in heavens Day 5 - Fish and birds Day 6 - Beasts and man 114

The Sixth Key Darkness, Face, and the Deep 115

Darkness, Face, And The Deep GEN 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 116

DARKNESS Darkness - Light is energy. Darkness is the absence of light or energy, not something sinister as Gap Theorists suppose. The created matter, or the building bricks of the universe, was not yet organized or energized. 117

FACE GEN 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep Face = Presence The formless waters and earth (the elements) are present but not yet formed, energized, or set in motion. 118

THE DEEP [28;70] GEN 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. The deep = T e hom Deep and waters in this context indicates water, but signifies lack of organization (unorganized). 119

DARKNESS AND THE DEEP [28] In both pagan and Hebrew accounts, creation begins with the deep as an unorganized mass. The idea presented here is that "of all the basic material elements sustained in a pervasive watery matrix throughout the darkness of space". The entire creation at this point is like a pile of bricks, waiting to be assembled. The next part of Genesis 1:2 speaks of the Spirit of God. 120

The Seventh Key The Spirit of Creation 121

The Spirit of Creation GEN 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 122

The Spirit of Creation The Spirit of God = Spirit (Ruach) [Rue aach] Ruach (Spirit) is also the word used for wind or breath. We find the concept of breath used for the Holy Spirit in John 20:21-22: JOH 20:21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: 123

The Spirit of Creation Other areas of Scripture refer to the part played by the Holy Spirit in the Creation Week. In the context of Genesis 1:2, Ruach Elohim (Spirit of God) is not a breath of wind caused by God, for the verb does not suit this meaning, but the creative Spirit of God. [31;54] The Holy Spirit thus takes an active role in God s creation. 124

The Eighth Key Power 125

Power GEN 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 126

Power [66] The Spirit of God moved. Moved = Moved, shake, hovered, or fluttereth Rapid back and forth motion. Vibrating movement giving the idea of imparting energy. 127

Power [66] Energy results in matter (E=MC 2 ). MATTER always involves motion through TIME and SPACE (SPACE-TIME-MATTER), a triune universe reflecting its Triune Creator. The Holy Spirit works as the energizer or the prime mover to bring form and life in God's creation. All three Persons in the Godhead are working in creation. 128

The Ninth Key Energy 129

Energy GEN 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 130

The First Word The first recorded word spoken by God In verse one the Father is the source of all things. In verse two the Spirit is the energizer of all things. In verse three the Word is the revealer of all things. Light reveals the hidden things. The Holy Spirit is the energy behind Him who communicates. God communicates and it is so. Christ communicates and there was light. 131

The Word JOH 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. The Word was there with God before time began. 132

Before Time Began COL 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 133

The Tenth Key Light 134

Light GEN 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 135

Light [42] "Let there be light" Light = ore Illumination; from the root meaning to make luminous, kindle or set on fire. Energy in all its forms is implied as well as light energy. The substance of light was made. 136

Light The sun and moon are not yet made. This word for light, ore is different from the word light, maw-ore, indicating the sun and moon of verse sixteen. In verse seventeen the light given off by the sun is referred to by the word ore, thus giving more evidence that this word refers to energy. This means that the energizing work of the Holy Spirit of verse two is ordered to be carried out by the Word of God. 137

Light And there was light Disorder and Darkness heard God s word and took flight. 138
