"John's baptism," they replied. 4aul said, "John's baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus." 5n hearing this, they were baptized into the name of the ord Jesus. 6When aul placed his hands on them, the Holy pirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. 7here were about twelve men in all. lide 5 5 earning cts 19 8aul entered the synagogue and spoke boldly there for three months, arguing persuasively about the kingdom of God. He took the disciples with him and had discussions daily in the lecture hall of yrannus. 10his went on for two years, so that all the Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of sia heard the word of the ord. lide 7 7 earning cts 19 11God did extraordinary miracles through aul, 12so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them. M aul performs miracles (cts 19:11-12) lide 8 8 earning M Name of Jesus held in honor (cts 19:17-20) cts 19 17When this became known to the Jews and Greeks living in phesus, they were all seized with fear, and the name of the ord Jesus was held in high honor. 18Many of those who believed now came and openly confessed their evil deeds. 19 number who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly. When they calculated the value of the scrolls, the total came to fifty thousand drachmas. 20 this way the word of the ord spread widely and grew in power. 3 of 7

esson on aul s 3 rd Missionary Journey (esson 34) lide 9 9 earning cts 19 23bout that time there arose a great disturbance about the Way. 24 silversmith named Demetrius, who made silver shrines of rtemis, brought in no little business for the craftsmen. M Demetrius the silversmith (cts 19:23-24) lide earning M Demetrius stirs up trouble (cts 19:25-27) cts 19 25He called them together, along with the workmen in related trades, and said: "Men, you know we receive a good income from this business. 26nd you see and hear how this fellow aul has convinced and led astray large numbers of people here in phesus and in practically the whole province of sia. He says that man-made gods are no gods at all. 27here is danger not only that our trade will lose its good name, but also that the temple of the great goddess rtemis will be discredited, and the goddess herself, who is worshiped throughout the province of sia and the world, will be robbed of her divine majesty." lide earning M riot (cts 19:28-29) cts 19 28When they heard this, they were furious and began shouting: "Great is rtemis of the phesians!" 29oon the whole city was in an uproar. he people seized Gaius and ristarchus, aul's traveling companions from Macedonia, and rushed as one man into the theater. 4 of 7

esson on aul s 3 rd Missionary Journey (esson 34) lide earning M he crowd is dispersed (cts 19:35-41) cts 19 35he city clerk quieted the crowd and said: "Men of phesus, doesn't all the world know that the city of phesus is the guardian of the temple of the great rtemis and of her image, which fell from heaven? 36herefore, since these facts are undeniable, you ought to be quiet and not do anything rash. 37ou have brought these men here, though they have neither robbed temples nor blasphemed our goddess. 38f, then, Demetrius and his fellow craftsmen have a grievance against anybody, the courts are open and there are proconsuls. hey can press charges. 39f there is anything further you want to bring up, it must be settled in a legal assembly. 40s it is, we are in danger of being charged with rioting because of today's events. that case we would not be able to account for this commotion, since there is no reason for it." 41fter he had said this, he dismissed the assembly. lide earning M aul continues his journey (cts 20:1-6) cts 20 1When the uproar had ended, aul sent for the disciples and, after encouraging them, said good-by and set out for Macedonia. 2He traveled through that area, speaking many words of encouragement to the people, and finally arrived in Greece, 3where he stayed three months. Because the Jews made a plot against him just as he was about to sail for yria, he decided to go back through Macedonia. 4He was accompanied by opater son of yrrhus from Berea, ristarchus and ecundus from hessalonica, Gaius from Derbe, imothy also, and ychicus and rophimus from the province of sia. 5hese men went on ahead and waited for us at roas. 6But we sailed from hilippi after the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and five days later joined the others at roas, where we stayed seven days. 5 of 7

esson on aul s 3 rd Missionary Journey (esson 34) lide earning M utychus falls asleep (cts 20:7-9) cts 20 7n the first day of the week we came together to break bread. aul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight. 8here were many lamps in the upstairs room where we were meeting. 9eated in a window was a young man named utychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep as aul talked on and on. When he was sound asleep, he fell to the ground from the third story and was picked up dead. lide earning cts 20 10aul went down, threw himself on the young man and put his arms around him. "Don't be alarmed," he said. "He's alive!" M aul raises utychus from the dead (cts 20:10) lide earning M aul says farewell to phesian elders (cts 20:17-24) cts 20 17From Miletus, aul sent to phesus for the elders of the church. 18When they arrived, he said to them: "ou know how lived the whole time was with you, from the first day came into the province of sia. 19 served the ord with great humility and with tears, although was severely tested by the plots of the Jews. 20ou know that have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house. 21 have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our ord Jesus. 22"nd now, compelled by the pirit, am going to Jerusalem, not knowing 6 of 7

esson on aul s 3 rd Missionary Journey (esson 34) what will happen to me there. 23 only know that in every city the Holy pirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me. 24However, consider my life worth nothing to me, if only may finish the race and complete the task the ord Jesus has given me the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace. lide earning M aul prays with the phesians (cts 20:32-37) cts 20 32"Now commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. 33 have not coveted anyone's silver or gold or clothing. 34ou yourselves know that these hands of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions. 35 everything did, showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the ord Jesus himself said: 't is more blessed to give than to receive.' " 36When he had said this, he knelt down with all of them and prayed. 37hey all wept as they embraced him and kissed him. 7 of 7
