1 The Five Solaes Huddle Leader s Guide - October 29, 2017 Reformation Sunday Scripture Alone Following Words of Wonder in the Sanctuary, children will come down to Horton Hall and go directly to Large group time. At the conclusion of the large group gathering and Bible telling the children will go to their grade appropriate tents. o Each huddle leader will first take attendance and hand out name lanyards. If a child does not have a hanging name tag or is not on the list they are not registered please give them a nalbel to write their name (Liz will the parent during the week for registration) Work with them according to the activity in your tent. You will work with them to retell the story using questions and various activities. 1. To refocus the group, start by asking these two questions: What was your favorite part of the story? Why? Give children time to answer. We believe that s Word is powerful and speaks for itself. Guide the discussion, listen respectfully and keep the kids on point. 2. Use the activity as described in the tent to help facilitate the children to talk about the Bible Story. 3. Finally, all children will return to the large group Worship space for closing comments and prayer before being released to their parents. a. Please collect name tags prior to dismissing to large group! b. During the closing time, please stand by the Parent Sign-out Table and talk to parents, hand out the Parent Take-Home flyer. c. His judgment on us must be close at hand. Go and find someone who can ask the Lord about this. The priest went to a certain section of the city to the home of Huldah, a woman prophet. They asked her about what was written in the book. She said, I have a message from to the man who sent you here. says, The people of this land have totally turned against me. They serve idols and false gods. I m about to fulfill the judgment written in the book you found. Disaster will soon fall on this place and everyone who lives here. Nothing can turn away the judgment that is coming. Huldah then said, I have another message to the king of Judah. The Lord says, When you heard the words of this book, your heart was sad and you ripped your clothes and cried. You have sought me with humility, and I heard you. Therefore, you will not see the disaster I m bringing on this place. I will wait until you die and are buried. The priest took these words back to. When he heard them, he gathered together all the elders of Jerusalem and Judah. They in turn went and got the rest of the people. Everyone went to the, where they heard the king read the Law of Moses. They heard about the agreements their nation had with. Once the reading of the Law was done, stood in the place reserved for the king. In front of everyone, he made those same commitments to the Lord. He vowed that he would follow s commandments with all of his energies and power. All the people agreed to do the same. and the nation of Judah renewed their commitment to the Laws of. The king then took all the false altars out of the and had them burned. The people also went throughout Jerusalem and destroyed all the idols that were in the city. Once that was done, the king personally went throughout the land of Judah and oversaw the destruction of idol worship in all the cities. Next he went throughout the land of Israel and destroyed all the idols and altars that were there. When he found a major pagan spot, he desecrated the altar so the people would never use it

3 again. He went to the altar Jeroboam had built at Bethel. totally destroyed everything that was around it. He saw some tombs nearby, so he sent men to get some human bones. He burnt them on top of the altar to desecrate it. Then saw a monument nearby. He said, What s that? The men of the area said, That s the tomb of the prophet who came from Judah. The Lord sent him here to speak against Jeroboam when he dedicated this altar to his golden calves. He prophesied and told the people what you would do to this altar. Today you have fulfilled his prophecy. It is also the grave of an old prophet from Samaria. said, Don t disturb these bones. He then returned to Jerusalem. The king organized a Passover feast like no other. He and prominent men of Judah gave generously so everyone could have a sacrifice to give. In the entire history of Judah, there had never been a king like, who loved and served the Lord with all his mind, heart, and strength. He totally followed the ways of. WONDER QUESTIONS: 1. Bible Story Bingo: As a way of helping the children to re-tell the story use the Bingo cards (Sample cards below). You keep the CALL SHEET Hand out one Bingo Card to each child Hand out one small cup of Cheerios or Gold Fish to each child. These are their playing pieces FIRST Time through simply have the students find the word(s) you are calling from the CALL LIST on their sheet and then have them tell you what part of the story that word comes from. Example: 8 years old they should tell you that was 8 when he became. Do this several times before shifting to the traditional Bingo format. SECOND In traditional BINGO Fashion, call out using the the top row lettering (A.L.O.N.E.) with a word from the CALL LIST. Example: L-, A, N- etc. First one to have five in a row gets to retell how those particular words are part of the story. If time permits PLAY SWORD DRILL by calling out different books of the Bible and seeing how fast the kids can find them.
