INTRODUCTION The All Saints Cathedral Kampala (ASCK) desires to have Christians rooted in Christ, growing in faith and abounding in fruitfulness (Colossians 2:7). This is intended to help the believer trust God s will as revealed and recorded in the Holy Scriptures. The Church is admonished not to be swayed by all kinds of false teachings that are common these days. As a believer engages in the spiritual discipline of Bible reading and study, s/he gets daily nourishment. We encourage parishioners to read the Bible daily - that way, they may be rooted in the Word of God (Psalm 119:7-8, 11) in order to be fruitful wherever they are planted in the Lord s world and vineyard. In this season, we will go through the Bible book by book guided by Psalms or wisdom literature; Pentateuch and history of Israel; Chronicles and Prophets; and lastly gospels and Epistles. Thus, we shall study Numbers (Pentateuch); a few chapters from Psalms (psalms) and Isaiah (Prophets); and Colossians, 1 Thessalonians and Philemon (Epistles). Please be equipped with a good Bible, preferably NIV, ESV, NKJV or LASB, a pen and note book. If you can, please acquire a good Bible dictionary, commentary and a concordance. But amidst all these remember that the BIBLE is the critical piece. Let it be known to all that the entire Bible is about God s redemptive plan for mankind. Jesus Christ Himself told His disciples that, These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that every thing written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled (Luke 24:44-ESV). Therefore, as you read the Bible every day, figure out what the passage teaches about the Person or work of Jesus Christ and apply that teaching to your own life. As you read the Bible, look out for a command to obey, a promise to claim, a rebuke to heed, a sin to repent of and for an opportunity to share with another person. Most importantly, the essence of this publication is to facilitate godly transformation by applying the Word of b DAYBREAK WITH BIBLE READING

The Fourth Book of Moses Called NUMBERS The book of Numbers was written by Moses approximately 1400BC. The English title of the Book is derived from the censuses found in chapters 1-4. Numbers is the general history of the people of Israel during their (approximately) 41 years of life in the wilderness prior to entering the Promised Land of Canaan. There are several purposes for the book of Numbers. The overall purpose is to teach us about God who He is, what He has done, and for us to see His glory. God promised Abraham to give his descendants the Land of Canaan, which He did. But because of Israel s various sins, there were consequences to be paid, including a 40-year delay before entering the Promised Land. With each of the sins mentioned, a curse of some kind was brought against the Nation. God is Holy, and His people must be Holy. We also read of God s faithful provisions for His people, as He brings them to the Promised Land. When the people needed water, food and protection against enemies, God provided. As we meditate on the lessons learnt from the book of Numbers, there will be many applications for the present-day Church and for individual Christian lives, as we move through the wilderness of this present existence. But the special focus will be on the Person and work of Jesus Christ. Jesus, the greater Moses, is taking us through this wilderness and bringing us into the land of eternal new earth (Isa.65:17; 2 Pet.3:13; Rev.21:1). Monday 1 st October, Counting the men who are able to fight in war; Text: Numbers 1:1-54 Yahweh (the LORD), the God of Israel, promised His people that He would give them the Land of Canaan as an inheritance. The people in that land were warriors and Israel was expected to fight (vv.1-4) to conquer the inhabitants. Of course, Israel lacked the skill and strength that would enable them defeat the inhabitants, but their victory was granted by God (1Sam.17:47). Nevertheless, BIBLE VERSES TO START YOUR DAY 1

entering and occupying the land would require great effort on the part of Israel. We too are called to engage the enemy in spiritual warfare (Eph.6:10-17; 1 Tim.6:12). As it was for Israel, so it is for us the victory is not from our strength, it is from the Lord (Phil.2:12-13). Jesus has already gone before us and has won the battle against the world, the flesh, and the devil. He accomplished righteousness for His people, paid the death penalty for our sin, broke the power of death and is interceding for us continuously. Eternal life on the new earth is ours and guaranteed! Meditate on verses 1-4: What is God teaching you in these verses? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, thank You for the victory I have in Jesus Christ. I am overwhelmed by your goodness when I count my blessings. Thank You for Your faithfulness to me and my family! Amen. Tuesday 2 nd October, The people of God encamped around the Tabernacle; Text: Numbers 2:1-34 One of the blessings of God s grace toward His people is His presence in their midst. In this chapter we see the entire Nation of Israel gathered around the Tabernacle, three tribes on each side (vv.1-4). When Adam sinned, he was cast away from God. But by God s grace we are reconciled to Him and restored to a right relationship with Him. The Tabernacle and its location are symbols of that reconciling grace. In the book of Revelation we see another picture of reconciliation with God, though not symbolically but in reality. In Rev.7 all the people saved by grace from all ages and all places are gathered around the throne in the actual presence of the triune God. The reason we will be there is because we have been spiritually cleansed by the blood of Christ (Rev.7:14), meaning He died to pay our punishment. And forever we will be with the Lord, never again to be separated from Him. Meditate on verse 34(a). How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray that You forgive us and grant us fellowship with You. Many times we have sinned against you. We ask for forgiveness. Give us the joy of knowing and fellowshipping with You always. Amen. 2 DAYBREAK WITH BIBLE READING

Wednesday 3 rd October, Aaron and his descendants serve Yahweh as Priests; Text: Numbers 3:1-51 The priesthood in Israel was a very specialised office, and only certain individuals chosen by God could serve in that office. Their ministry was to intercede between the worshipper and God. When a person brought the prescribed sacrifice for sin, for thanksgiving and any other ritualic activity, it would be put in the hands of the Priest, who would then perform the necessary rituals that would render the sinner cleansed and therefore acceptable before God. Jesus Christ is our great High Priest (Heb.7, 8), whose priesthood is perfect and eternal. He brings the sacrifice of His very own life, given for His people (Atonement). He is seated at the right hand of God and ever lives to make intercession for us. We too serve God as Priests (Rev.7:15) bringing to Him perfect worship, offering the sacrifices of praise. Meditate on verse 4. What is God teaching you in this verse? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me to obey Your commands written in the Bible. Give me the ability to study Your Word and open my spiritual eyes to see what You want me to see and hear Your voice. Amen. Thursday 4 th October, The duty of the Kohathites; Text: Numbers 4:1-49 Moses and Aaron are from the Tribe of Levi, from the sons of Kohath. Only Aaron and his sons served as Priests in the Tabernacle/Temple. The other sons of Kohath also served, but not as Priests. Their duties were to carry the holy things (Altar, Lamp, etc.) when the tabernacle was being moved from one location to another. The Priests covered the holy things and the Kohathites carried them (vv.1-4, 15). No one else was permitted to carry out this function. No one is worthy to serve God because all humans are by nature sinful; therefore God decides who does what. And even then, the ones chosen are sinful, so the work they do is symbolic. But God the eternal Son, Jesus Christ, is perfect, and in His human nature lived a perfect and righteous life. Therefore, He alone may serve the Father in reality. We come to God in worship only through Jesus Christ, and we believers are used by the Holy Spirit to bring others to Christ. Meditate on verse 15. What is God teaching you in this verse? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, thank You for the blood of Jesus Christ that cleansed me. I pray that I will remain in Your presence here on earth and inherit eternal life in heaven. Extinguish the power of darkness and its effects in my life. Amen. BIBLE VERSES TO START YOUR DAY 3

Friday 5 th October, Unclean persons are removed from the camp of Israel; Text: Numbers 5:1-31 This passage could make someone think that Yahweh (The LORD) is cruel and unloving because those who are ceremonially unclean are removed from the Community (vv.1-4). Instead Yahweh is not unkind. He still loves those persons, and they can still have eternal salvation: Yahweh is using a physical illness to demonstrate the importance of spiritual purity in the Church. If those with physical infections are allowed to stay in the Camp, many others will become sick! The spiritual lesson learnt is that, if unrepentant sinners are allowed to stay in the Church, then others will be unconcerned about their own sin and their souls will be destroyed. Let s always remember that we all are sin-sick and we all should be removed from God s Church. There s nothing any of us can do to change that, however, Jesus lived a perfect righteous life for His people, and those who are united to Him will be cleansed from their sin and have the confidence that they will live with Yahweh forever. Meditate on verses 1-4. What is God teaching you in these verses? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, forgive me for all my sins so that I may remain in fellowship with you. Father, thank You for Your Son, Jesus Christ, through whose righteousness I have been accepted into Your presence. Amen. Saturday 6 th October, The Vow of the Nazarite; Text: Numbers 6:1-14 The Nazarite Vow is a special dedication to Yahweh for a certain amount of time. The Nazarite was not to drink alcohol (nor consume anything from grapes), not to cut the hair, and not to touch a dead body (even that of a close family member) (vv.1-6). The most well-known Nazarite in Scripture is Samson, whose Vow covered his entire life (Jug.13:5). Jesus Christ did not take the Nazarite Vow. instead He was entirely dedicated to God. It was His godly responsibility to do the will of His Father (John 4:34). Like Samson, Jesus is the Champion of His people and conquered our enemies the World, the Flesh, and the Devil, and delivered us from God s condemnation. We also are not called to be Nazarites like Samson or John the Baptizer, but called to give ourselves in full dedication to God. Whatever we do should be done to the glory of God (1Cor.10:31). And in those times when you fail, reentrust yourself to Jesus, who accomplished perfect righteousness for you! Meditate on verses 3-4. How are you going to apply them to your life? 4 DAYBREAK WITH BIBLE READING

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pledge myself in full dedication unto You. Help me to proclaim Your Word and cause many to come to Your saving grace. Equip, protect and strengthen all missionaries especially those in difficult area/countries. Amen. Sunday 7 th October, Aaron s High Priestly Benediction; Text: Numbers 6:15-27 This passage is recited in many of today s churches, usually at the end of worship as the benediction, a word of blessing (vv.22-27). But this should be seen as much more than a tradition. It is quite likely that Aaron raised his hands as he said this (Luk.24:50). So as Aaron spoke these words, he was putting Yahweh s name on the people (Num.6:27). Grace was not just symbolised, grace was more than spoken, grace was literally put on God s people. When Jesus, our Great High Priest, was taken up to heaven, He lifted up His hands and blessed His disciples, and they were blessed. All the blessings Jesus accomplished were put upon them. So, at the end of the worship service, when your pastor raises his hands and pronounces the benediction, don t bow your head. Rather, look up and receive the Lord s blessing of grace. You need it, and it is yours. Meditate on verses What is God teaching you in these verses? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, may Your face shine upon us! May your everlasting love be upon our nation. May reconciliation come upon our leaders and families. Amen. Monday 8 th October, Contributions for the tabernacle; Text: Numbers 7:1-89 In this Chapter we read about the Tribe Leaders bringing special gifts for the Tabernacle (vv.1-6). It is likely that the leaders are bringing a collection from their own Tribe members. It is also important to note that all the money and things needed for the Tabernacle were acquired directly from the people of Israel, the worshippers. It is very easy for elders and Church officers to seek money from those outside the Church, perhaps from government or from neighbours. However, God s people are to be the sole providers of the Church s needs. As Jesus moved about during His ministry, He was supported by those who loved Him and had benefited from His ministry (Luk.8:3), and the Church needs to keep to that lesson. Having side businesses for the purpose of supporting the congregation is not a strong policy. The Church is to be supported by its members and fellow believers. Meditate on verse 2: How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray that Your children will be involved in BIBLE VERSES TO START YOUR DAY 5

the Missions of the Church. Cause situations that will necessitate the Gospel to be preached. Father, cause hunger to many for Your Word amongst Your people. Amen. Tuesday 9 th October, Cleansing the Levites (who serve in the Tabernacle); Text: Numbers 8:1-26 The only persons who served in the tabernacle were those chosen by Yahweh, (the Levites) (vv.6-9). Before they could serve, they were to wash, shave, and perform a sacrifice. Every time there was a new Levite, the purification processes were carried out again. Symbolically this teaches us that no one is genuinely able to serve, sin prohibits that. God is pure, and His worship is to be pure, and for someone to serve Him, he also must be pure. Therefore, God instituted the cleansing ritual. But it also was symbolic, no real cleansing took place. But if the worshippers participated by faith, trusting God s promises, then God s grace was given, and real worship was enjoyed. Jesus Christ was a genuinely pure man, and His service to God is genuinely pure. When we come to God through the Person and work of Christ, we and our worship are accepted. Meditate on verse 7. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, thank You for the blood of Jesus Christ that washed me clean. I pray that you protect my testimony amidst serious temptations, and keep me from evil. Amen. Wednesday 10 th October, Observing the Passover Meal; Text: Numbers 9:1-23 On the night that God delivered Israel from their slavery in Egypt, He directed His people to partake of a special meal, in commemoration of that Day referred to as The Passover (vv.6-11) (read the details in Exodus 11-13). God required that the meal be eaten every Year on the anniversary of the deliverance. Numbers 9 is the first Passover Anniversary. In order to celebrate the anniversary and to receive the blessings from it, a person had to be ceremonially clean. The same is true in the Church today. Our Passover meal is the Lord s Supper. By it we remember our deliverance from enslavement to sin. In order for a person to participate and to receive the blessings from eating it, s/he has to be cleansed by the Blood of Jesus Christ, to be under the authority of His officers, and to be living a life of trust, love, and grateful obedience (and repentance for disobedience) to the 6 DAYBREAK WITH BIBLE READING

Lord. In the Lord s Supper, our souls are fed on Jesus Christ and what He did for us. Meditate on verse 8. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me to always stand still before You and hear Your voice. Forgive me for the many times that I have disregarded You, handling matters my own way. Amen. Thursday 11 th October, The Trumpets; Text: Numbers 10:1-36 As Israel moved through the Wilderness trumpets were used to send messages to the people (vv.1-8). Whatever the occasion, only the Priests were to blow the trumpets, indicating that the summons was part of worship and was for the good of the Nation. In 1 Cor.14:8 Paul compares the sounding of the trumpet with the ministry of the Word. When the Word of Christ is properly proclaimed as laid down in Scripture, it is a summon upon the lives of His people. The Word should always bring us closer to the Lord Jesus and should strengthen us to serve His Church. Whether you are a Bible teacher or student, focus carefully on the connection to the Person and work of Jesus Christ. Meditate on verses 3-5. What were the two main purposes of the trumpets? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, may every step I take be guided by the Holy Spirit. Forgive me where I have relied on my strength and experience. Strengthen and help me rely on You alone. Amen. Friday 12 th October, God s people complain against Him; Tex: Numbers 11:1-35 This passage is very frighteningly sobering, and should be an alarm to all believers today. The Nation of Israel had departed from Mt. Sinai (10:11). The Israelites soon encountered difficulties in their travels to the Promised Land because they had forgotten how God graciously gave them a powerful and miraculous deliverance from their enslavement in Egypt. So, when they faced difficulties, they complained (vv.1-3). God was displeased and put many of them to death for their faithlessness. Are we any better? No! How often do we complain? We deserve God s punishment each time we fall short of His glory! But God is patient with us and does not give us the punishment we deserve. That happens because Jesus Christ satisfied all God s requirements for His people and atoned us on the cross, and after rising from the dead He returned to the throne and is seated at the Father s right hand BIBLE VERSES TO START YOUR DAY 7

to mediate for us. Because the Father loves the Son, He also loves all those who belong to the Son. We are safe. HOWEVER, we should stop complaining, and live a grateful life for whatever God gives us. (Philip.4:11). Meditate on verse 1. What is God teaching you in this verse? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, forgive me that I have grumbled. I have grumbled over many things; security, economy, leaders of our nation. I have grumbled over the poor health provisions and the body of Christ. Forgive me. Amen. Saturday 13 th October, Moses sister and brother try to take some of his authority; Text: Numbers 12: 1-16 Even though Miriam was a leader among the women and a Prophetess, Aaron and his sons were the Priests, they still were not satisfied, they wanted more (vv.1-9). A curse fell upon Miriam and she became leprous. When Moses prayed for her, Yahweh healed her. Let us take a lesson not just from Miriam s and Aaron s faithlessness, but from Jesus submission and obedience to God s will for His life, including taking our sin upon Himself and paying our horrible penalty on the Cross! We should be content with the job or ministry the Lord has given each of us. You might think it s not important or glorious, but whatever task you have is given by the Lord (1Cor.12:31). Therefore, glorify God by serving Him with all your body and soul. Meditate on verse 13. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, please forgive those that hate and work against me. May the voices of my enemies and enemies of Your Church be silenced. Touch them, and let them surrender to You and receive mercy and forgiveness. Amen. Sunday 14 th October, The Spies bring a faithless and discouraging report; Text: Numbers 13:1-33 Moses did not sin by sending men into the Land to learn about it and bring a report (vv.1-2). In fact, this is being used by God to test the people. The Report is that the land is difficult, and the inhabitants and their cities are big and powerful, which is true. Ten of the men are convincing the people that it will not be possible for Israel to conquer the land (vv.30-32). But Joshua and Caleb say that Israel can take the land. They know it is by God s power (14:8-9). Sadly, Israel already forgot what God did for them in Egypt. 8 DAYBREAK WITH BIBLE READING

Jesus Christ has already gone before us to conquer the enemies so that we can enter eternal life. That is guaranteed. Have confidence in that. And please encourage others who are weak in trusting Jesus. Focus their hearts and minds on what He has already accomplished. Also, as we face so many difficulties in this life, do not forget that He is with us and He will never forsake us (Heb.13:5). One day we will be with the Lord forever. Meditate on verse 30. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I choose to trust you. Many times I have been desperate in need, a sign of not trusting You as I ought to. Let me be an encourager to those who are watching me. Amen. Monday 15 th October, Moses prays for Yahweh to forgive His people; Text: Numbers 14:1-45 Because Israel stopped trusting God, the Lord was ready to destroy them for their faithlessness. But the Lord heard Moses intercede for them, mediate for them, pray for them for God to forgive (vv.11-12, 19-20). Yahweh is willing to forgive because of Moses prayer, not because of any goodness in the people. The lesson for us is eternally important. Even though God has given us salvation, we are not yet perfect; we still sin, we break God s laws every day. But Jesus, God the eternal Son, is seated at the right hand of God the eternal Father, where He intercedes for us, He mediates for us, He prays for us continuously. This truth is one of the beauties of the message of Christ we cannot be lost! This does not mean we have permission to sin, no. But it is comforting to know that even though we sin, we have a Saviour whose life, death, and resurrection always apply to protect us. Meditate on verse 19. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, forgive us whenever we do not fully trust You. We have relied on other sources more than on You. We have removed our eyes from You and trusted the arm of flesh. Forgive us! Amen. Tuesday 16 th October, Yahweh continues His covenant with Israel; Text: Numbers 15:1-41 Because Israel did not trust Yahweh, they were made to suffer 40 years of wandering in the Wilderness, one year for every day the spies searched out the land (14:34). We would understand if God decided to reject them (14:12). But the fact that God repeats the laws of sacrifices shows that He is going to continue with the Nation in BIBLE VERSES TO START YOUR DAY 9

a covenant relationship (vv.1-5). He and they will continue to be united by promise. This relationship of grace is only possible because of the accomplishments of Jesus Christ. Jesus satisfied what God required, a requirement that no one else is able to fulfill, and those accomplishments are credited to the account of His people. The message of God s grace in Christ is truly amazing. God has done everything to ensure that His people will be with Him forever. We do not deserve it, but He has given it, it is ours. Now live like a person who belongs to God in love and grateful obedience. Meditate on verse 41. What is God telling you in this verse? What does it mean to you? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, You are my God and my Lord. In You alone I trust. You are the true God, the creator of everything, seen and unseen. You are Holy and forgiving God. Your love endures forever. Amen. Wednesday 17 th October, Rebellion against God s Prophet and Priest; Text: Numbers 16:1-50 Korah is from the same group of people as Aaron and Moses (sons of Kohath, of the tribe of Levi). Korah and his friends accused Moses and Aaron of usurping leadership and saying that they (Korah) should have a greater role (vv.1-5). Though Korah was accusing Moses, Moses knew it was actually rebellion against Yahweh, because God is the One who picked Moses and Aaron. Korah and the others were condemned and destroyed in a miraculous way (vv.31-32). God s message was clear. The history of the World is full of religions that claim to have the way to God, but God has provided only one way His grace found only in the Person and work of Jesus Christ, God s only true Prophet and Priest. Even in the Churches today there are many persons who claim to have what you need to get to God. They all are false christs, false prophets, false apostles. Do not listen to them. The Bible teaches that there is only one way to God and that is Jesus Christ. Also, be careful that you are not a false christ. If you are a Pastor, your task is not about yourself. You are to bring people to Jesus and to keep them close to Him. Meditate on verses What is God teaching you in these verses? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, cleanse me from the sin of rebellion. You are the true God, the creator of everything, seen and unseen. You are Holy and a forgiving God. Your love endures forever. Amen. 10 DAYBREAK WITH BIBLE READING

Thursday 18 th October, Yahweh indicates that only Aaron and his sons are to be priests; Text: Numbers 17:1-13 The day after Korah is destroyed, the people again come against Moses and Aaron how foolish! Yahweh says again that He will destroy Israel for their rebellion (16:41-45). Moses intercedes and saves them. God then provides a test to show that He has chosen only Aaron s family for the priesthood. It is a gentle but miraculous method (vv.1-5). As we read yesterday, and even as Jesus Himself warned (Matt.24:24), there will always be those who are false, who will exalt themselves and lead others away from the truth. Stay growing in the Bible. It is the only source of truth about God, salvation, and Jesus Christ. Be sure that you are a humble servant of the Lord, seeking only to exalt Him and never self. And in those times of arrogance and pride, when you recognise those sins, confess it to the Lord, and give Him all the glory. Meditate on verse 8. What is God teaching you in this verse? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, let the Holy Spirit lead us as we choose our Leaders. Let the spirit of intrigue and bribery be far removed from us as we choose leaders. Get us leaders of integrity who are out to promote Your agenda. Amen. Friday 19 th October, The responsibility of the Priests; Text: Numbers 18:1-32 We see again that the Priests are to bear the iniquity of the Tabernacle (vv.1-5). This means that they are the ones to administer the sacrificial system for the people, and the Priests are the ones to guard the Tabernacle from mis-use and false worship. God will be worshipped according to His own requirements and terms. This task is fulfilled by Jesus Christ who alone is the One who has accomplished true worship of God, and He alone brings the Worshipper. This principle is also applied to those who are Ministers today (the pastors). No one should take on this duty only because he has a desire (which is a good desire). The ministry is a gift and work of the Holy Spirit, recognised by the Church, developed by the Church, and ordained by the Church. It is not proper for someone to do it by himself. If you are sensing a desire to serve the Church in this way, speak to your Elders, and let them guide you through the process. Christ works through His Officers. Meditate on verse 1. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me to be the Priest in my Family. I pray for fathers to be available and take their positions as Priests in their respective families. I pray for harmony and love in families. Amen. BIBLE VERSES TO START YOUR DAY 11

Saturday 20 th October, The uncleanness of the Priests because of their service at the Tabernacle; Text: Numbers 19:1-22 We learn in this brief passage that the Priest and the man who assists him become unclean, when they do their service for the tabernacle (vv.7-10). Each day those who serve in the Tabernacle must be cleansed when they begin their service, they must cleanse themselves when they finish their service, and they remain unclean until evening. It reminds us that those who served to remove un-cleanness were themselves unclean. There was a need for a genuinely pure, clean Priest to give real cleansing. Jesus Christ is that Pure Priest. He is genuinely clean and can really take away our spiritual filth. When Jesus touched the leper (Mark.1:40f) He did not become unclean, He took away the uncleanness of the leper. That teaches us that only Jesus can take away our sin. In the Churches today, neither Ministers nor lay persons can take away sin. But it is our responsibility to point others to Jesus, who is the only One who can truly cleanse us from sin. Meditate on verse 18. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me to stand in the gap for others. Cleanse me with the blood of Jesus Christ so that I will be able to pray for others beginning with my family members. Amen. Sunday 21 st October, Moses disobeys and dishonors Yahweh; Text: Numbers 20: 1-29 Once again, the people are in need of water, which is a serious problem. But they did not humbly request Yahweh to provide for their need. Instead, they roused themselves against Moses and Aaron, as if they could provide anything. When Moses spoke to the Lord about this need, he was given instructions to speak to a certain rock, and water would flow out of it. But Moses was angry with the people, and sin resulted. He did not speak to the rock as instructed. First, he rebuked the people (perhaps shouted angrily), then he struck the rock, twice, and then he claimed some of the credit for himself (vv.8-12). As a result, Yahweh would not allow him to enter the Promised Land. Jesus Christ, our eternal Moses, did everything that the Father commanded, and He will bring us into eternal life. In fact He has already gone ahead of us to prepare the place. We understand grumbling and complaining we do it too much! We must stop it. This life is full of challenges, so ask God for grace so that you will mature in trusting Him, and thereby give Him glory. Meditate on verses 8 and 11. What do you observe in the instruction of God to Moses and his response? What is God teaching you in this? 12 DAYBREAK WITH BIBLE READING

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me to keep my temper in check so that I shall not sin against You. Father, I pray against ungodly anger in our politicians, Church leaders and families. I pray for harmony, love and reconciliation. Amen. Monday 22 nd October, God brings a curse and a solution; Text: Numbers 21: 1-35 Again, the people of Israel grumble against Yahweh, so He sends poisonous serpents into the camp to kill many of them.the people of Israel could not heal themselves from the poison of the snake bite (vv.4-6). So they went to Moses, confessed their sin, and asked him to pray for them. Yahweh told Moses what to do (vv.7-9) so that the people could be saved. Jesus refers to this incident when He describes His Ministry in John 3:14. The thing killing the people was a serpent, so they looked to a serpent on a pole, trusting God s promise for healing. The thing killing us is sin. When we look to Jesus on the cross, we see Him who was made sin for us (2 Cor.5:21). When we trust that Jesus paid our sin penalty, we are healed. You cannot heal yourself of the deadly consequences of sin. Trust that Jesus paid the penalty for you and you will live with Him forever. Meditate on verse 7. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, forgive us as a nation and heal our land. We have done evil: Idolatry, shedding of innocent blood, corruption, adultery and fornication. Father forgive us! Amen. Tuesday 23 rd October, Balaam is hired to curse God s people, but God uses him to bless; Text: Numbers 22:1-41 Some have argued that Balaam was a true Prophet but rebellious and greedy. Others say he was a false prophet, who was only interested in making money (vv.9-14). Whatever his nature and motivation, God used him to bless the people of Israel. God put His words into Balaam s mouth (v.38). Balaam was forced to speak words of blessing, even as his donkey was moved by God to speak human language (v.28). Our perfect righteous Prophet, Jesus Christ, said, I do nothing of my own authority but speak just as the Father taught me. Jesus was pleased to speak the Word of His Father, which is how it should be with us, as well. If you are considering the pastoral/teaching/preaching ministry, please do not do it BIBLE VERSES TO START YOUR DAY 13

because you see financial benefit. Do it because you love God, His Word, and His people. Be eager to minister because you want others to know the love of God in Christ Jesus, as it is revealed in Scripture. Meditate on verse 18. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray that I will obey Your Word. Give me the ability to apply Your word in my life. Let Your Word be light for my feet. Amen. Wednesday 24 th October, Balaam speaks Yahweh s Word; Text: Numbers 23:1-30 Why is Balaam having seven altars built with sacrifices on them? (vv.1-5). He already knows what God wants. The text does not say it, but Balaam hopes Yahweh will change His mind and allow him to gain some wealth. So, when the time comes to speak a curse, a blessing flows out, because God put the words in his mouth. These words of blessing happened three more times (23:18; 24:3; 24:15). As we read yesterday, the prophet Jesus spoke just what the Father desired. Whether you are a minister or someone who loves to speak the message of Christ to others, be sure that you speak only what God has put in your mouth. That Word is the Bible. When it comes to the things of God, we have nothing else to speak. Meditate on verse 12. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, forgive me for the times I have disobeyed You. I have taken You for granted and relied on other things for my strength. Forgive me. Amen. Thursday 25 th October, Balaam prophesies about the coming of Christ; Text: Numbers 24:1-25 For the previous three prophecies Balaam spoke about God s blessing upon His Nation Israel. In this fourth prophecy he looks forward to Christ, a Star and a Scepter coming out of Israel. He will destroy the enemies of God s people and rule over all (vv.15-19). This is the same person prophesied by Jacob, who will rule the nations (Gen.49:10f). It was always God s plan to include non-jews in His salvation grace. Through Isaiah (49:6) God says to Jesus, you will bring my salvation to the end of the earth, and to Malachi (1:11), My name will be great among the nations. Jesus brought the message to Samaria (John 4); to the Canaanite woman (Matt.15:21); to the Roman soldier (Matt.8:11, 13); and the Great Commission (Matt.28:19). 14 DAYBREAK WITH BIBLE READING

You, the reader, are probably a non-jew. God has always had you in mind when He planned salvation. So, when you speak to others, do not ever think that God is not interested in them. Speak to everyone you can because Jesus loves them. Meditate on verse 17. What is God teaching you in this verse? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, thank You for Jesus Christ who conquered the enemy, the devil. In Him we have eternal life! In Him we are Your children and we are empowered to overcome all temptations. Amen. Friday 26 th October, Israel forsakes Yahweh and worships Baal; Text: Numbers 25: 1-18 Balaam continued to work against Israel, and here is where he succeeded (31:15-16). The King of Moab sent women among the Israelites to entice the men to worship Baal, which included sexual favours (vv.1, 6). God sent a plague that killed 24,000. The plague was stopped by Phinehas love for the Lord (25:8). All worship of other gods is worship of demons. Jesus was even tempted to worship Satan. But Jesus would only love and serve His Father (Matt.4:9). You will also be faced with the temptation to worship false gods, though it may appear differently. Whatever you love, trust, and serve is your god. Also, be very careful about sexual temptation. There is so much of it in our times. Marry one person only and enjoy sex with that person only. Please, worship (love, trust, serve) only the triune God; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Meditate on verses 7-8. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, forgive us as a Nation for we have committed idolatry and worshipped Idols. Witchcraft is on the increase in our community. Forgive us! Amen. Saturday 27 th October, The new census; Text: Numbers 26: 1-65 In chapters 1-4 Yahweh commanded that a census be taken of those who could fight in battle. Following this, thousands of people died, so a new census needed to be taken (vv.1-4).yahweh promised Abraham that He would make him into a nation, and God is doing that with the new generation. But He did not need those original people. They rebelled against Him. BIBLE VERSES TO START YOUR DAY 15

Jesus taught the same thing during His earthly ministry. He told the religious Authorities, the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing its fruit (Matt.21:43). God is faithful to His covenant promises, and if you belong to Jesus Christ, your salvation is guaranteed. But you do not have permission to continue in rebellion and in unrepentant sin. If you are continuing in sin, please stop, confess, turn away from it, and return to God s grace in Christ. Otherwise, you might discover that you never were part of God s Kingdom. Meditate on verses What is God teaching you in these verses? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, forgive me whenever I have rebelled against Your Word. Not only have I rebelled against Your Word but I have not read it regularly. Forgive me. Amen. Sunday 28 th October, Yahweh appoints Joshua to succeed Moses; Text: Numbers 27: 1-23 We saw in chapter 20 how Moses dishonoured Yahweh, and God never allowed him into the Promised Land; instead he was allowed to view the land from a distance (v12). Moses still loved the people and he interceded for them, asking God to give them someone who would lead them, so that they may not be as sheep that have no shepherd (v17). Joshua was chosen (vv.6-20). He had been Moses aide and general since leaving Egypt (Ex.24:13; 17:9). Jesus Christ is our great Moses and Shepherd (John10). Before Jesus returned to the throne of Heaven, He promised to give us another like Himself; the Holy Spirit, who would guide and comfort us. In our churches Christ has given us leaders to be our shepherds (John 21:15; 1 Pet.5:2) because humans naturally stray. Honour and obey those in authority, they serve Christ and you for your spiritual well-being. Meditate on verse 3. How would you like your children to comment about you after your death? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me leave a godly legacy. A legacy that will honour Your great name; a name that is above all names. Protect and preserve my testimony. Amen. Monday 29 th October, Sabbath Day offerings; Text: Numbers 28: 1-31 The Sabbath day was the day of worship. Of course, every day, every minute, is to be lived as worship to God, but the Sabbath was the one day in seven when God s people gathered together to hear His Word and to give Him thanks and praise. Part of that worship was offerings, giving to God (vv.9-10). The most 16 DAYBREAK WITH BIBLE READING

important offering was the burnt offering, which was given every Sabbath. That offering symbolised our sin and being transferred to an animal, the animal was killed and completely burned which symbolised our sin-punishment being paid completely. Jesus Christ is our burnt offering. He paid our sin penalty completely, perfectly, and it never needs to be paid for again. When we gather for worship on the Sabbath (Sunday) we come into God s presence on the basis of the work of Christ, and we bring sacrifices of thanks and praise (Heb.13:15). Meditate on verses What is God teaching you in theses verses? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me to regard Sunday service seriously. Let me be an example of honouring the Sabbath day. Forgive those who take your day lightly. Amen. Tuesday 30 th October, Offerings for the Day of Atonement; Text: Numbers 29: 1-40 What is the meaning of atonement? It is an English word many think comes from at one, referring to the end of the separation of God and man, thus at-one-ment. Perhaps it is or isn t but atonement does imply the work of the death-substitute. On the Day of Atonement Israel has (an) animal(s) dying in the place of the Nation, not just of an individual (vv.7-11). The Day of Atonement looked forward to the death of Christ on the Cross. Jesus death paid the death-penalty for His people, His nation. Sin is when a person breaks God s laws, which leads to death, which is a separation from God s love. Jesus paid that death penalty, which ends the separation and gives us peace with God, making us to be at one with God atonement. Each Sunday you should have in your mind and heart the work of Christ, which allows you to be at one with God. Meditate on verse 30. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me proclaim Your Word to the people. Give me the sense of urgency and diligence in the Ministry of Evangelism and Discipleship. I pray that many of Your children will grow and bear fruit that will last. Amen. BIBLE VERSES TO START YOUR DAY 17

Wednesday 31 st October, Vows made to Yahweh; Text: Numbers 30:1-16 It might look strange that an entire Chapter is about Vows, but it s important because of who we are as creatures. God creates everything by His Word, sustains everything by His Word, and He always keeps His Word (vows, promises, oaths), and so should we, because we are created in His image. A Vow is a solemn promise and pledge other than the usual requirements of God s Law. For example, you might make a special request to God and then make a Vow: a promise to do something for God, as a way of showing gratitude and trust. Jesus taught about Vows (Matt.5:33-37) and He warned against making vows at all (as a regular habit). Rather, Jesus said that we should simply say yes or say no. After all, what we say should always be the truth, even if we do not use the word promise. Making vows is not necessarily wrong. Jesus was willing to take an oath before the religious authorities (Matt.26:63). It is also acceptable to make a vow for marriage, or courtroom testimony, etc. So, except for rare occasions, just say yes or no. Meditate on verses 1-2. How are you going to apply them to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me keep my promises. Many times I have not been diligent in keeping promises to You and fellow man. Forgive me. Amen. 18 DAYBREAK WITH BIBLE READING

Thursday 1 st November, Moses commands the killing of women and children; Text: Numbers 31: 1-54 This passage and specifically vv seems so ungodly, so horrifying! It s the kind of thing terrorists do. How could Yahweh require such a thing?! For a proper understanding of this incident we must have a proper view of the absolute holiness of God, the utter sinfulness of humanity and the magnificence of God s covenant promises. Even though we know that God is pure, it is so absolute that we really cannot imagine it. Anything impure may not be in His presence. Regarding the impurity of humanity, we think too highly of ourselves. Spiritually we are filthy, rotten, and odious, and toward God we are naturally rebellious and hateful. We all deserve what the Midianites received. Finally, regarding the covenant of God s grace, He will not have anything stand against it. We also deserve to be destroyed, but God the Father promised salvation grace, God the Son accomplished it, and God the Holy Spirit works it in us. Please, glorify God in your life with love and grateful obedience. Meditate on verses What is God teaching you in these verses? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, kill the spirit of lust in me, and indeed in some of Your children. Amen. Friday 2 nd November, 2018.The Tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh request a different land Text: Numbers 32:1-42 The land on the east side of the Jordan River was good for large herds of animals, so the 2½ tribes request to have it for their inheritance (vv.1-5). Moses was not pleased, but the 2½ tribes agree to fight with the other tribes until the Promised Land is conquered, and the request was granted. Jesus is building His church, and every day He adds many thousands of persons from all around the world. All together we are the one body of Christ. But there are many individual BIBLE VERSES TO START YOUR DAY 19

Christians and Congregations who think they are better served without belonging to the others. This is not a healthy practice. Each Believer needs the local Church, and each Church needs to be united with other congregations a denomination. When we separate ourselves from others there is increased danger to our souls. Please, do not be a lone Christian. And if you belong to a good church that is independent, encourage your leaders to join with a denomination. We all need each other. Meditate on verses How are you going to apply them to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, let the Holy Spirit guide every step I take. Amen. Saturday 3 rd November, Moses reminds the people of their 40-year journey; Text: Numbers 33: 1-56 The purpose of this Chapter is to remind the people of Israel how God destroyed Egypt, in order to deliver them from their enslavement, how He took them through the 40 years in the Wilderness, and finally how He brought them to the border of the Promised Land (vv.1-2). Reviewing salvation history strengthens our faith. Many times in Scripture you will read about salvation history. Please make note of that and be encouraged. So it is in our present day. Remembering our history is especially important when we gather around the Lord s Supper. Before the elements are distributed, the minister will remind the people of what Jesus Christ accomplished for us in His earthly ministry how He lived righteously for us, how He paid our sin penalty, and broke the power of death by His resurrection. Participate in the Lord s Supper thoughtfully. Remind yourself of the goodness of God in Christ, and take to heart what God did for you and your brethren through Him. Meditate on verse What is God teaching you in these verses? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I worship you whenever I recall where You picked me from. Thank You for the many victories You have granted me, the difficulties You have enabled me to pass through. Amen. Sunday 4 th November, The boundaries of the Promised Land; Text: Numbers 34:1-29 The exact boundary locations are debated (vv.1-5), but no one denies the historic reality that Israel gained the land. What spiritual benefit is gained by the historic fact? What is the redemptive purpose of the Land? What eternal theological insights do we gain? 20 DAYBREAK WITH BIBLE READING

To answer those questions, we must begin by remembering that Adam s sin sent humanity away from a blessed relationship with God. But God graciously promised to bring some people back to himself through reconciliation by His work alone. We get a visible picture of that in God s promise to give the land to Abraham and his descendants, and then the fulfillment of that promise. So it will be for us. Restoration to God was earned by the perfect obedience of God the eternal Son, Jesus Christ. It is then given to those who belong to Him. God now promises us that He will be with us forever, and we know that God will fulfill that promise as He did for Israel. That is our confidence in Jesus Christ (John.14:2-3). Meditate on verse What is God teaching you in these verses? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, defend and protect Israel. Amen. Monday 5 th November, 2018.Cities given to the Levites; Text: Numbers 35:1-34 The Levites received no tribal inheritance in the Promised Land, rather they were scattered around the Nation, occupying 48 Cities and the surrounding pasture land (vv.1-4). What they acquired was extremely small and of little significance. But they had a great work to do among the people. The Levites taught the Word of God (e.g., Neh.8:7-8). Jesus, our great High Priest, had a similar situation, as He went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues (Matt.4:23). Jesus even spoke of Himself in terms of homelessness, having no place to lay His head (Matt.8:20). Those who are called to ministry have a similar calling. While they minister the Word of God to His people, as the people establish their lives in certain places, the pastors are in a real sense rootless. Often the pastor/clergy and his wife will not even have friends from among the Parishioners. There is nothing wrong with building your life, family, business, etc. But as you do, remember your Ministers, honour them, serve them, and pray for them. They watch over your soul (Heb.13:17), and their lives are often lonely and thankless. Meditate on verse 3. What is God teaching you in this verse? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray for the Church Leaders to be contented as they proclaim Your Word to the people. Amen. BIBLE VERSES TO START YOUR DAY 21

Tuesday 6 th November, Marriages and inheritance concerns; Text: Numbers 36:1-13 This Chapter is about a very important issue to the people of Israel, though it may seem to be a waste of time for us. In Num.27 we read about the daughters of Zelophehad who were concerned that they would lose inheritance rights because there were no brothers to carry on the family line. And if the daughters married outside of the tribe of Manasseh, then the land would eventually be lost (vv.1-4). The question was a good one and Yahweh gave an answer. The daughters must only marry men in the same tribe. Today, marriage is usually based on love, but in Bible times marriage often had practical purposes. Jesus never married because of His desire to dedicate Himself to the Kingdom of God, and the Apostle Paul had the same concern (1Cor.7:8,32). At least Christians should have it in mind that when we marry, it should only be with Christians so that there will not be the loss of the inheritance of eternal life. To marry outside the Faith you proclaim often means the loss of the Believer s Faith, and children who are raised in unbelief. Please avoid that! Meditate on verse 12. What is God teaching you in this verse? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray for holiness and righteousness to prevail in Your children s marriages today and always. Amen. The Book of PSALMS The word Psalms means songs, it originates from Greek word, Psalmoi. The author of Psalms is God Himself. God composed the Psalms through more than seven people. King David composed at least seventy three (73) of the one hundred fifty (150) Psalms; the sons of Korah accounted for ten (10) and Asaph composed twelve (12); Solomon two (2); Moses two (2); Ethan two (2). The composers of the remaining fifty (50) Psalms remain anonymous much as Ezra is considered to have written some. It took about 900 years to have all the Psalms composed. The Book of Psalms is the largest book in the Bible and most quoted Old Testament Book in the New Testament. Psalm 117 represents the middle Chapter (out of 1,189 Chapters)) in the Bible. Psalm 119 is the largest Chapter in the whole Bible. 27 by hunters. The Psalmist is under severe divine drought and longs to be in the presence of God. Our lives should always seek to depend on God. You need to develop a strong affinity for the presence of God through His Son, Jesus Christ. Meditate on verse 1. How are you going to apply this verse to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray that my soul will always pant for You! Amen. Thursday 8 th November, God s will is the best for you; Text: Psalm 43:1-5 For You are the God of my strength; Why do You cast me off? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?, [v.2]. The Psalmist wonders why he should be put under pressure and persecution when indeed God, the Creator of everything was his refuge and strength. Many times God allows hard situations to arise in the lives of His beloved children for His own glory [Rom. 8:36]. As a child of God, even under intense distress, still remain in God s will. Let the name of the Lord be glorified even when you are in that undesirable situation. Meditate on verse 2. How are you going to respond to that verse? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, forgive me where I have questioned Your integrity. Your ways are always holy and righteous. Your will is the best for me. Amen. Friday 9 th November, Glorify God in every situation; Text: Psalm 44:1-26 Yet for Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter, [v.22]. The children of Israel suffered a lot under the hands of their enemies, yet they could not get specific answers as to why they had to go through such a torture. Yes, sin could have been involved but they could not point to a particular sin. And to make matters worse probably the punishments were being administered through people who were worse than them. But all the same, they concluded that it was God s sovereign Will that they were suffering. You as a child of God may suffer inconveniences out of God s sovereign Will. Meditate on verse 22. What is God teaching you in this verse? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me discover Your sovereign Will in every difficult situation I will be in. Amen. BIBLE VERSES TO START YOUR DAY 23

Saturday 10 th November, Only in Christ there is eternal life; Text: Psalm 45:1-17 Grace is poured upon Your lips; Therefore God has blessed You forever, [v.2]. This Psalm is a royal wedding composition. If you have admiration and affection for Christ as the bride, you will draw to Him and expose your affection to Him; you are fairer than the sons of men. Indeed to those who have received and believed in Christ, He is an excellent man. His lips pour out words of Grace, words that save the gospel. Receive these words of Grace from Jesus Christ and you will be saved, you will become a new creation. Amen. Meditate on verse 2. What is God teaching you in this verse? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, thank You for Your Words of grace, they comfort and encourage me. Amen. Sunday 11 th November, Be still in the presence of God; Text: Psalm 46: Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earths! (v.10) (NKJV). God commands His children to be still as He promises to comfort and give them the desired victory, He also warns the enemies that they will recognise His sovereignty because they will be defeated. Wars may be many but in Christ we will win them all. Let us not panic but be still and honour Him for His power and majesty. Meditate on verse 10. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, forgive me where I have been anxious. Help me be still in Your mighty arms. Amen. Monday 12 th November, We worship an awesome God; Text: Psalm 47:1-9 For the LORD Most High is awesome; He is a great King over all the earth, [v.2] [NKJV]. In this Psalm we are encouraged to praise God publically [v.1], cheerfully [v. 6] and intelligently [v.7]. Our God, God of the Bible is awesome beyond description and comprehension, but that does not stop us from talking about Him. In the same manner, the Bible writers under the influence of the Holy Spirit tried to describe Him much as we cannot explain about Him completely and correctly. However, we can tell others what this awesome God has done for us! In our limitations, let us witness for Christ for He has done great things for us! You just count your blessings, you will be amazed! Meditate on verse 2. What is God teaching you in this verse? 24 DAYBREAK WITH BIBLE READING

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, You are beyond description. Power, honour and majesty belong to You alone. Amen. Tuesday 13 th November, Our God is our Guide; Text Psalm 48:1-14 For this is God, Our God forever and ever; He will be our guide Even to death [v.14]. The children of God are never left to live by chance or in constant grief. God is always in control; God s sovereignty is beyond His Child s death! Our God is from eternity. He knew us before we were born. He gave us His saving grace and we responded. We were born destined to be saved! We are not saved by chance, it was designed from eternity, that He will be our God! Amen. Meditate on verse 14. What is God teaching you in this verse? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, thank You for choosing me to be Your child. You are my God! Amen. Wednesday 14 th November, Invest where it really accounts; Text: Psalm 49:1-20 The similarity between the rich and poor is that they all die, and leave whatever they have here on earth [vv 10-14]. At the point of death both go before God naked and empty handed. What makes the difference is what one has invested in heaven. That is the only wealth you can count on. How do you invest in heaven? By trusting God through His Son, Jesus Christ, and obeying Him and using your resources to build His Kingdom in the hearts of men and women. This will stand forever. This is your treasure invested in heaven that will last forever. Meditate on verses What is God teaching you in these verses? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me to use the resources You have given me to build Your Kingdom. Amen. Thursday 15 th November, Repent or perish; Text: Psalm 50: Now consider this, you who forget God, Lest I tear you in pieces, And there be none to deliver, [v.22] [NKJV]. Our God is gracious, for He gives an opportunity to repent, and be saved from destruction. You must take this warning seriously. Receive and believe in His Son, Jesus Christ, and receive eternal life. [1John 5:11-13]. Jesus Christ is the only Way, the Truth and the Life [John 14:6] Meditate on verse 22. 30 Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, forgive me all my sins. Make me the kind of person You want me to be. Amen. Friday 16 th November, Only God sustains your salvation; Text: Psalm 51:1-19 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit, [v.12]. As a child of God you need to experience the joy of salvation. The joy of having Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord and Hope of eternal life. God s Holy Spirit is willing to sustain your salvation, otherwise you can easily fall into sin or despair. You can only experience the joy of salvation when you are living a spirit filled life, a life of repentance and in constant fellowship with God. Meditate on verse 12. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, give me the joy of salvation. Amen. Saturday 17 th November, Live a life of faith and confidence in God; Psalm 52:1-9 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever, [v.8]. An olive tree can stay for many years, in fact hundreds of years. Figuratively, now David says that as long as he is in the Lord, he can live for many years like an olive tree. So for us to flourish and live a meaningful life, we must live a life of faith and confidence in God through Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord. Meditate on verse 8. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, give me the grace to remain rooted in You. Amen. Sunday 18 th November, A foolish person says there is no God; Psalm 53: 1-6. A foolish person is not necessarily uneducated or lacking in intelligence, for many of the unbelievers and those who hate God, some are highly educated. Probably you know some examples especially in this country. A fool is a person who rejects God, yet He is the one to save this fool. You reject God through your negative actions. When you steal and commit all sorts of evil, you indeed say that there is no God to see you and therefore there is no judgment. This is foolish and this foolishness is soon catching up with you. Repent! 26 DAYBREAK WITH BIBLE READING

Meditate on verse 2. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray that I will not act as a fool enough to deny Your presence and love. Amen. Monday 19 th November, Trust in God, not in man; Text: Psalm 54:1-7 Save me, O God, by Your name. And vindicate me by Your strength, [v.1]. David had been betrayed by Ziphites to Saul and now he calls on the name of the Lord. In Biblical times, a person s name defined the person, therefore in this verse, God s name is essentially His covenantal protection. Here David did not have any other to run to, but God for protection. When you are in the heat of a situation, where do you run to? Run to God through His Son, Jesus Christ. Meditate on verse 1. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray for the deliverance of our nation. Amen. Tuesday 20 th November, Regularly call upon the Lord, Text: Psalm 55:1-23 As for me, I will call upon God, And the LORD shall save me. Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, And He shall hear my voice, [vv.16-17] [NKJV]. It is important for you and all of us to seek God regularly. King David is committed to pray three times every day; morning, at noon and evening. Daniel also had developed a routine of praying three times a day [Daniel 6:10], Peter had a routine of praying at noon every day [Acts 10:9]. As you pray, do not trust in your prayer but God to answer your requests [v. 16]. Always make sure that there is no hidden sin in your life and pray through the name of Jesus Christ, for in this you glorify God the Father [John 14:13]. Meditate on verse 17. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me to be in fellowship with You regularly. Amen. Wednesday 21 st November, Purpose to trust God; Text: Psalm 56:1-13 You should purpose to trust God and this should be your decision and not a by the way [v. 3]. Remember always that no one can stop or deny you what God has purposed to give you, [v. 11]. The devil may try to use some individual or situation to deter you, but nothing can hinder God s plan concerning you. God s plan for you will come to pass in its time. Trust Him! 32 Meditate on verse 3. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, forgive me for being anxious and worried over many things, showing lack of trust in You. I repent of this. Amen. Thursday 22 nd November, In all circumstances exalt the Lord; Psalm 57:1-11 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; Let Your glory be above all the earth, [v.5] [NKJV]. Here King David was under pressure and had entered a cave running away from Saul. His life was in danger. Despite the circumstances he was in, instead of praying to be rescued; he opted to exalt God. Many times we are inward looking and our prayers are selfish. We pray that hard circumstances get away from us. However, it is more important first to exalt the Name of the Lord rather than focusing on God solving our personal problems. Meditate on verse 5. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, may Your name be exalted even when hard circumstances come by my way. Amen. Friday 23 rd November, May the means of doing evil be destroyed; Text: Psalm 58:1-11 Break their teeth in their mouth, O God! Break out the fangs of the young lions, O LORD! [v.6]. Here David is asking God to break down and destroy every means that propagates evil. He is praying that the Lord may disable the means that cause further destruction. Note that David does not pray for the perpetrators to be killed, but for their teeth to be broken so that they do not destroy others and to repent of their sins. Pray always for your enemies not to be destroyed but to repent and receive salvation. Meditate on verse 6. What is God teaching you in this verse? How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, may my enemies repent and turn around to receive and believe in Jesus Christ. Amen. Saturday 24 th November, May the Lord scatter our enemies; Text: Psalm 59:1-17 Do not slay them, lest my people forget; Scatter them by Your power, And bring them down, O Lord our shield, [v.11] [NKJV]. Never pray that your enemies or the 28 DAYBREAK WITH BIBLE READING

enemies of the Church be killed outrightly. Instead let your enemies be scattered. When Cain killed his brother, God never killed him right away, otherwise he would not have learnt a lesson. Instead Cain was sentenced to a life of restless wander and in the process appreciate his evil deed. When your enemies are scattered, they lose the power to organise and do harm, and instead they slowly and painfully realise their evil deeds and repent. Pray for your enemies that in their distress will call on the name of the Lord and be saved. Meditate on verse 11. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray that You may scatter my enemies. Amen. Sunday 25 th November, Unless you repent the Lord will reject you; Text: Psalm 60:1-12 O God, You have cast us off; You have broken us down; You have been displeased; Oh, restore us again!, [v.1] [NKJV]. When God s people do not obey Him and His Word, He rejects and abandons them. When God abandons His people, then the enemy gets a field day on them until they repent. But when you repent, God restores you, through His Son, Jesus Christ. As a nation, we need to repent, otherwise the Lord will reject and abandon us. Meditate on verse 1. What is God teaching you in this verse? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, forgive me for I have not obeyed You. Restore me again. Amen. Monday 26 th November, Let God be your refuge; Text: Psalm 61:1-8 Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I, [vv.1-2]. (NKJV). Many times hope and courage may fail you because of severe distress, and even then still never trust in mortal man or the hand of flesh but only in God through Jesus Christ, the rock that is higher than you from Eternity. Let Jesus Christ be your refuge, for in Him you are a new creation and more than a conqueror. Meditate on verses 1-2. What is God teaching you in these verses? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I trust You, You are my rock and refuge all times. Amen. BIBLE VERSES TO START YOUR DAY 29

Tuesday 27 th November, Wait on the Lord; Text: Psalm 62:1-12 Truly my soul silently waits for God; From Him comes my salvation, [v.1] [NKJV]. To be silent, David was observing both areas: patience and an uncomplaining. He completely trusted God for his protection. In the midst of challenges and suffering, you can get true contentment only from God through His Son, Jesus Christ. Even when everything seems to be falling apart still quietly expect that God will intervene at the right time. Meditate on verse 8. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me to always wait on You patiently. Amen. Wednesday 28 th November, Seek the Lord and Live; Text: Psalm 63:1-11 O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirty land Where there is no water, [v.1]. This Psalm was written by David while in the wilderness of Judah. He was probably running away from his rebel son, Absalom [2 Samuel 15:18]. In this verse, Early will I seek you is not necessarily time of the day but the yearning and eagerness to be with God in every circumstance. David wrote this Psalm while in the desert but he longed to worship God in Jerusalem. Whenever you feel you are in the wilderness because of the circumstances prevailing around you, seek to worship the Lord. It is only God who can pull you out of those difficult circumstances. Worship God through Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord. Meditate on verse 1. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, let me yearn to worship You in all circumstances. Amen. Thursday 29 th November, Rejoice in the Lord; Text: Psalm 64: 1-10 The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and trust in Him. And all the upright in heart shall glory, (v.10) [NKJV]. Never rejoice over the misery and ruin of your enemies, instead rejoice and be glad that our God is glorified and worshiped. Rejoice that in those difficult circumstances His Word is proclaimed. Jesus Christ prayed to His Father to forgive His enemies. Let Jesus Christ be your Hero. Amen. Meditate on verse 10. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, may You always be glorified in my life. I choose to worship You in all circumstances. Amen. 30 DAYBREAK WITH BIBLE READING

Friday 30 th November, All humanity will worship the Lord; Text: Psalm 65:1-13 O You who hear prayer, To You all flesh will come, [v.2] [NKJV]. This verse is alluding to the future millennial King Jesus Christ to whom all humanity will confess and every knee bow down that indeed Jesus Christ is the Lord. To those who will have received Christ as their Lord and Saviour, it will be great celebration, to those that had rejected Him, their worship will be inconsequential; it will be too late to bear effect [Zech. 14:16-19]. Our God is gracious God and willing to hear our prayers through His Son, Jesus Christ. Amen. Meditate on verses 2 and 4. How are you going to apply them to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, hear my prayers. Amen. BIBLE VERSES TO START YOUR DAY 31

DECEMBER 2018 Bible Verses to start your Day Saturday 1 st December, Do not indulge in sin; Text: Psalm 66:1-20 If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear, [v.18]. As a Christian, confession of sins should be part of our lives, because we sin every day and every moment. When we are proud and refuse to repent of our sins that the Holy Spirit is pointing to in our lives, then in a way we are raising a wall between God and us; and He cannot hear our prayers. God will hear from a humble broken, contrite heart that is dependent on Him. It is important that you avoid thoughts that sugarcoat sin, hate such thoughts, do not indulge in them and do not allow yourself to swim in them. You will only be able to keep sin at bay when you pay heed to the prompting of the Holy Spirit, through Jesus Christ. Amen. Meditate on verse 18. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, cleanse my mind of sinful thoughts and rid my heart of evil desires. Amen. Sunday 2 nd December, May God s face shine upon us; Text: Psalm 67:1-7. God be merciful to us and bless us, And cause His face to shine upon us, (v.1) [NKJV]. As Jesus Christ taught us to pray, Our Father meaning we need to pray with and for others, so the Psalmist here prays, Be merciful to us, bless us, shine upon us. We are happy because of God s grace, therefore the need to ask God s grace upon us first. The grace of God to shine upon us means God to qualify us for His favour by His own grace, which we attain through His Son, Jesus Christ. Meditate on verse 3. How are you going to apply it to your life? Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, may your face shine upon our nation. Amen. Monday 3 rd December, Let the Lord rise and His enemies be scattered; Text: Psalm 68:1-35 The Psalmist is quoting Numbers 10:35, the words that Moses would spoke each day before the children of Israel broke camp while still in wilderness. At this point 32 DAYBREAK WITH BIBLE READING
