3 We Are One One Purpose - One LORD - One Team - One Mission One Purpose Matthew 22:37-40 (NIV) The Greatest Commandment 37 Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. Matthew 9:35-38 (NIV) 35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Matthew 28:18-20(NIV) 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Questions: 1. Why is Purpose necessary? 2. Do you have clear purpose with work or home? 3. How does Jesus compassion lead to purpose? 4. How does the authority of Jesus and His commission in Matthew 28:18-20 give us purpose? Proverbs 29:18 (KJV) 18 Where there is no vision, the people perish Do you have a personal purpose or vision for your life from God?

4 Make a list describing what is our Purpose : Corinthians 9:24-25(NLT) 24 Don t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! 25 All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. How are you disciplining yourself for the race? (Purpose and Mission of Christ) What are some practical everyday ways we can train or prepare ourselves for the race? How would our daily routine need to change so we can make room for everyday practice of the things we listed above?

5 We Are One One Purpose - One LORD - One Team - One Mission Questions: One Lord - Matthew 22:37-40 (NIV) The Greatest Commandment 37 Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments. Make an honest list of your top 5 priorities: 1. What is the greatest command that God has given us? 2. How would our lives and priorities change if we truly lived out this command? What real changes would take place in our lives if we lived out the Greatest Command? Where does God fit into this list consistently throughout your daily routine? How do you consistently keep Jesus #1? 4. If God is not #1 what practical things can we do everyday to put him where he belongs?

6 Write a brief example of when God was your highest priority and first love? What difference do you see from that time and now? 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 (NIV) 4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. In these verses Paul made a clear point to say, that the same God is at work in everyone of us. Why is this truth so important? Deuteronomy 6:4-6 (NIV) 4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. These words in Deuteronomy mirror Matthew 22:37, but was given before Jesus came into the world. How has this command changed in light of Jesus coming, death, and resurrection? HINT: Whom did God send to us after Jesus ascended? What is impossible for man, was made possible through Jesus and the sending of the Holy Spirit. How does this give us great hope in fulfilling the greatest commandment? John 14:6 (NIV) 6 Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. How can we find continued hope in Jesus, and take that hope to those who don t have it? How does this verse weave into the Greatest Commandment?

Who is our neighbor? 1 Corinthians 12: Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many. Questions: (NLT) Mark 12: Why does Jesus make the second command equal to the first? 2. How would our lives and priorities change if we truly lived out this command? (Directed to the Church) 3. What real changes would take place in our lives if we lived out the Greatest Command? Make a list describing what the Church is: How does the Body of Christ, The Church, resemble or relate to the concept of a team? 4. 5.

8 How does our view of The Church affect the way in which we live out our faith? If we view The Church as the body of Christ, how should this change or transform the way we see church? How do we stop viewing the Church as a building or institution? Colossians 3:15New International Version (NIV) 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. In these verses Paul made a clear point to say, that we need the peace of Christ to rule in our hearts. Why is this truth so important? Paul continues to say, we are members of one body called to peace, How do we find peace in the church family? (The Team) Ephesians 4 (NIV) Read this Chapter together and talk through the main points. Ephesian 3:6 (NIV) 6 This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus. As joint heirs in Christ we are members of one body! How can we practically live this our day to day? How can we build deeper relationships within the Body of Christ? Can we find our deepest friendship within the body?

Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV) 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Make a list describing what is our Mission : 1. Questions: (NLT) Mark 12: Why does Jesus make the second command equal to the first? 2. How would our lives and priorities change if we actively live to complete the mission of Christ? 3. What daily changes would take place in our lives if we lived out the mission? How do you fit into the team to complete the mission? If we are one team, how do we as a team fulfill the mission of Christ together?

10 Matthew 9:35-38 (NLT) 35 Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of disease and illness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 He said to his disciples, The harvest is great, but the workers are few. 38 So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields. How do these verses relate to one team with one mission? How can we increase the team for the mission? Who is the focus of Jesus compassion? What should our focus be on? Matthew 5:14 (NIV) 14 You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden Matthew 5:13-16(NIV) 13 You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. 14 You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. We are called Salt and Light in the above verses How are we like salt and light? How can we use these two descriptions to better understand and live out the mission of Christ? Who is Salt and Light?
