1 Isaiah ben Amoz Latter Prophets: Isaiah Prophets of YHWH TEAM YHWH ~ VITAL STATS Meaning of the name Isaiah (Yeshayahu in Hebrew): His L-rd saves. Tribe: Judah, of royal (Davidic) lineage [traditional, not explicitly stated in text] Dates of Service: BCE Message: Isaiah unveils the fullest judgmentsalvation motif in Scripture: punishment of the rebellious, followed with an offer of redemption before the Day of the L-rd (ultimate judgment). Redemption comes through the Suffering Servant. Immediate Audience: Southern Kingdom (Judah) Sitz im Leben: Judah s anxiety over the Assyrian threat, especially following the fall of the Northern Kingdom (722 BCE). Isaiah ben Amoz Lesson & Application: Conform to the Divine ideal, modeled by the Suffering Servant/Messiah, i.e. glorify and praise the Holy One of Israel in all things.
