" Gather my saints together unto me" Psa_50:1-5 This Psalm starts off telling us that it is a Psalm of Asaph H623, whose name is going to give us the immediate direction and insight that the holy spirit was inspired to write for our benefit (2Pe_1:21, 1Pe_1:12). H623 'âsâph aw-sawf' From H622 as in [ Isa_11:12 assemble H622 ;] collector; Asaph, the name of three Israelites, and of the family of the first: What I want to draw our attention to is that Asaph was closely involved with working in the temple of God as a singer (1Ch_15:19) and it also mentions in the book of Chronicles "Asaph made a sound with cymbals;"(1ch_16:5). (Rev_2:18, positive brass G5474 Rev_1:15), and then we have the negetive sounding G2278 brass 1Co_13:1) where we get the word echo e cheo G2278 which reminds us of this verse where Christ tells us the Pharisee's loved the sound of their own voices and warns us not to make such prayers (Mat_6:5-7) Asaph was a Levite (Gen_36:5, Num_16:1, Exo_6:24, 1Ch_9:16, 1Ch_15:17, 2Ch_20:19) and demonstrates for us the best that man can produce in the flesh with priestly garments of the earth which are a type of the righteousness of Christ (Rev_19:8). We go onto perfection through a refining process, with repentance as a necessary part of that process. And repentance is connected with the word "cymbal" H4700 as we see in Isa_30:15 with the word "returning" H7729 -> H7725 reminding us of Rom_2:4 The root of the word for cymbals H4700 is H6750 and so we are reminded that the temple of God is a house of mourning (Ecc_7:2) where we put of the fleshly carnal ways through praising God and focusing our hearts and minds on praise and worship of our Creator which blesses us and cleanses us as part of the process of cleansing the temple of God, along with sacrifices and thank offerings amongst other activities (1Sa_16:23, 2Ch_29:25). What preceded the verse where "the congregation brought in sacrifices and thank offerings of "(2Ch_29:31) was a process of being consecrated unto the Lord which reminds us of this verse (Mat_5:23-24). It was by the ordinance of the King, or "according to the commandment of the king, by the words of the LORD, to cleanse the house of the LORD" that these activities took place to cleanse the house of the LORD.
We know that we are the temple of God (1Co_3:16), and what we are seeing in the days of (David) (Hezekiah) and (Zerubbabel) are three symbolic ages of God's temple that remind us of the blessing that has come upon us "according to the king's order" (1Ch_25:6)(King David being a type of Christ), or as it says in (2Ch_29:15) "according to the commandment of the king, by the words of the LORD, to cleanse the house of the LORD." The house of the LORD is cleansed when we come together (Mal_3:16, Heb_10:25) and things are done decently and in order (1Co_14:40), and through that order we learn of God's mercy as a foundation is laid for which we will praise the Lord (Ezr_3:11). Ezr_3:11 And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the LORD; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid. ******* Asaph and his son are mentioned through the transitions of David, Solomon, Hezekiah and Zerubbabel. 950 BC King Solomon commences construction of the First Temple. Approx BC Hezekiah used this temple as king from about 729 BC to 686 BC (one of his first acts as king). 515 BC Completion and rededication of the Second Temple under Zerubbabel (Ezr_6:15-18) (David) 1Ch_15:19 So the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were appointed to sound with cymbals of brass; 1Ch_16:5 Asaph the chief, and next to him Zechariah, Jeiel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Mattithiah, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Obededom: and Jeiel with psalteries and with harps; but Asaph made a sound with cymbals; 1Ch_16:7 Then on that day David delivered first this psalm to thank the LORD into the hand of Asaph and his brethren. 1Ch_16:37 So he left there before the ark of the covenant of the LORD Asaph and his brethren, to minister before the ark continually, as every day's work required: 1Ch_25:1 Moreover David and the captains of the host separated to the service of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with
psalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of the workmen according to their service was: 1Ch_25:6 All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the LORD, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the king's order to Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman. all three brothers (Heman, Asaph and Jeduthun) called seers: 1Ch_25:5; 2Ch_29:30; 2Ch_35:15; H2374 חזה chozeh kho-zeh' Active participle of H2372; a beholder in vision; also a compact (as looked upon with approval): - agreement, prophet, see that, seer, [star-] gazer. H2372 חזה chazah khaw-zaw A primitive root; to gaze at; mentally to perceive, contemplate (with pleasure); specifically to have a vision of: - behold, look, prophesy, provide, see. 1Co_14:3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. 1Co_14:31 For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. (Hezekiah) 2Ch_29:13 And of the sons of Elizaphan; Shimri, and Jeiel: and of the sons of Asaph; Zechariah, and Mattaniah: 2Ch 29:14 And of the sons of Heman; Jehiel, and Shimei: and of the sons of Jeduthun; Shemaiah, and Uzziel. 2Ch 29:15 And they gathered their brethren, and sanctified themselves, and came, according to the commandment of the king, by the words of the LORD, to cleanse the house of the LORD. (Zerubbabel) Ezr_3:10 And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, they set the priests in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise the LORD, after the ordinance of David king of Israel.
Ezr 3:11 And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the LORD; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid. ********** We cannot order our steps properly unless the three Israelites within us are judged (1Pe_4:17) by way of a process that is shadowed in the life of Asaph and his sons, transitioning from age to age in the temples of God which are really symbolically just one temple which we are (1Co_3:16). H623 'âsâph aw-sawf' From H622 as in [ Isa_11:12 assemble H622 ;] collector; Asaph, the name of three Israelites, and of the family of the first: This is the only order that will lead to salvation (Deu_16:16, Exo_23:14, Joh_14:6). Psa_50:23 A Psalm of Asaph We are blessed today to be able to "draw near to God" Joh_6:44 and put our trust in the "Lord God" that we may declare "all thy works" Psa_73:28 A Psalm of Asaph The body of Christ is going through this process of salvation first so that in the end "That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth." Psa_83:18 A Psalm of Asaph When we have gone through the trials and the fire of God's judgments (2Ti_2:12) in our own earth, then we will be able to be used of God to bring a process of judgement to the rest of the world which in turn will bring the rest of the world and all the angels to know that Christ is "the most high over all the earth". God will use the elect to bring those judgments into the earth, those judgments that will be ruled over by mercy (Isa_26:9, Jas_2:13). Psa 50:23 Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God. Psa_73:1-28 Psa 73:28 But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works. Psa_83:1-18
Psa 83:18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth. Here are the verses we will be looking at this evening: Psa 50:1 A Psalm of Asaph. The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof. Psa 50:2 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined. Psa 50:3 Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him. Psa 50:4 He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people. Psa 50:5 Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice. Psa_50:1 A Psalm of Asaph. The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof. Psa_50:2 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined. It is from The mighty God H430 even the LORD H3068 that the word is spoken that brings the physical creation into existence which is going to be used to reveal the spiritual creation (Joh_1:1-3, Rom_1:20) "from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof. " (Rev_22:13). Although we don't see the process at first and consequently worship the creation rather than the Creator (Rom_1:25), God has deemed it needful that we grow into this free gift of the revelation of Jesus Christ (2Pe_3:18, Joh_6:27, Hos_4:6, Luk_10:24, Php_1:29, Mat_13:11) and tells us that we are "without excuse" (Rom_1:20) meaning that the day will come when those things which have been seen and heard and touched and held (Joh_20:27) which Christ created (i.e. all things) (1Jn_1:1, 2Co_5:16) will all witness against our unbelief or our belief which is only based on seeing initially (Joh_20:29). There is only one place that "perfection of beauty" (verse 2) can come from and that is from God the giver of every good and perfect gift that comes from above (Jas_1:17). This perfection is a process that God shines through from start to finish as we go from glory to glory (Heb_12:2, 2Co_3:18) to ultimately come up on mount Zion to rule (Oba_1:21, Isa_13:12). any comments on these two verses? Psa_50:3 Our God shall come, and shall not keep silenceh2790: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him. H2790
chârash khaw-rash' A primitive root; to scratch, that is, (by implication) to engrave, plough; hence (from the use of tools) to fabricate (of any material); figuratively to devise (in a bad sense); hence (from the idea of secrecy) to be silent, to let alone; hence (by implication) to be deaf (as an accompaniment of dumbness): - X altogether, cease, conceal, be deaf, devise, ear, graven, imagine, leave off speaking, hold peace, plow (-er, -man), be quiet, rest, practise secretly, keep silence, be silent, speak not a word, be still, hold tongue, worker. It's amazing to consider that God is going to come "and shall not keep silence" however the strange work that He is doing today is concealed (Hab_1:5) but then it will be obvious to all the earth the Lord is at hand (Isa_54:13). It shall always be very tempestuous round about him, because our God is a consuming fire and if we are His today we are in the process of becoming comfortable in that tempestuous fire for the rest who will follow (Heb_12:29, Isa_33:14-15). any comments on this verse? Psa_50:4 He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people. When we are being judged today, it is an event that will become common to all men and one that we recognize by the grace and faith of Christ was written in our books from the foundation of the world. What comes to mind when "He shall call to the heavens from above" and "to the earth, that he may judge his people." are these verses that speak of the sovereignty of God's hand over every part of this judgement (Mat_18:18-20, Jer_5:14). excerpt from Christ is the fiery words in the mouth of His witnesses, and while it is very little understood or appreciated, God Himself has empowered those in whom He dwells to devour their enemies with His fiery words which proceed out of His mouth. He has even empowered them to shut off the waters of heaven from their enemies, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. Christ s witnesses are a power for their enemies to contend with, simply because they know Him, and they have His words in their mouths. Christ Himself made this same statement earlier in Matthew 18: Mat 18:18 Verily I say to you, Whatever things ye may bind upon the earth shall be having been bound in the heavens, and whatever things ye may loose on the earth shall be having been loosed in the heavens. The things which have been bound and loosed on the earth, and the things which have been bound and loosed in the heavens are all the Words of Christ, which are always true.
If we are not even aware that we have these powers, it is because we do not have them. Paul knew his own powers in the spiritual word of God, and he did not waver in that power. 1Co_2:4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 1Co_2:5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. any comments on this verse? Psa_50:5 Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice. This gathering or collecting of the saints again reminds us of Asaph and how there can be no gathering or collecting unless there is judgement in the earth, then men will learn righteousness and be brought under the wings of the cherubim a symbol of the elect who have already at this point come under the wings of our Father (Mat_23:37, Rev_4:8). Our covenant is made to God by sacrifice which again points to the process of coming up to Jerusalem on the earth which is a type of Jerusalem which is above and mother of us all (Deu_16:16, Gal_4:26). H623 'âsâph aw-sawf' From H622 as in [ Isa_11:12 assemble H622 ;] collector; Asaph, the name of three Israelites, and of the family of the first: any comments on this last verse?
