3 Is the story historical? Was there a Noah? On one &meline, there was supposedly a worldwide flood around 3000BC. There are many flood stories from every region of the earth. We don t know if Noah was a real person

7 Did God send the flood, if so why? Read Genesis 6:5-7 What about the possibility that the flood was a natural event, but man s understanding of God in OT Qmes was that God was in control of all things blamed it on Him and these verses gave God a reason for doing this? If God caused this event to happen, is this the loving God of the NT?

8 If this was a natural event, then we see God intervening and offering a way to be saved. Noah would have to obey God in order for him and his family and the animals to be saved. Is this more in line with the loving God of the NT?

9 The story of Noah was most likely anchored in history, especially since similar stories appear in many different cultures. At the end of the Ice Age, geologist tell us flooding occurred as ice sheets melted. The floodwaters may not have covered the en&re earth but was so great and destruc&ve that common stories were passed along from genera&on to genera&on Does this sound reasonable?

How do you think God feels about the violence we human beings commit against each other in today s world in God s name? How do you think God feels about the hate we shave towards others in today s world?

14 Noah is an excellent example of how we are meant to live. He did all that God commanded him to do. Noah teaches us to listen to God s commands and follow them. Noah followed God s commands and he and his family and the animals were saved. What does God and/or Jesus tells us to do to be saved?

15 The author says that in today s society, we see many non-religious people care deeply about animals, and that we might be able to use the Noah story to connect with them. What do you think about this idea?

16 The author says that when we read these stories in the Old Testament, we are meant to worry less about whether they really happened exactly the way they are described, and more about the truths God intends for us to se in them. Does this idea make you look at these stories in a different light? What are the basic truths you take away from the creaqon and Noah stories?

17 The author says that the point of the ancient stories preserved in Genesis is less about offering history than about teaching us about God, about ourselves, and about God s will for our lives. How do you find the God of the New Testament in the Old Testament stories?
