1 Global Week of Prayer 6 10 November 2017 Welcome to Scripture Union s Global Week of Prayer Welcome to the 2017 Global Week of Prayer. Every year the first week of November is set aside as a dedicated time of prayer for the community. The Global Week of Prayer gives us the opportunity to pray together for our world, our leaders and for the vast array of ministry taking place around the globe. As we continue to celebrate 150 years of s ministry, we can praise God for His faithfulness and continued leading as we seek to fulfil our God given mission. To give everyone the opportunity to be part of praying and sharing prayer requests, each Country will be given a specific time to pray for one hour during the week the wave of prayer will continually move around the globe. The prayer wave will start on Monday 6 November (Sunday 5 th for some) and continue through to Friday 10 November (already Saturday in some areas). All staff and volunteers, friends and supporters that do not serve in a national movement are welcome to participate at a time and place convenient to you. This year the Global Assembly will begin on the last day of the week of prayer. On Saturday evening there will be a special prayer event to complete the week of prayer. Every day we invite you to share comments, prayers, and prayer requests using Global Family Facebook group. Everyone should check face book to see what has been posted before they begin their hour of prayer. We will also use this information to inform our prayers on Saturday evening. If you are not part of this group you can receive an invitation to join by contacting Claire Gelder, claireg@scriptureunion.global Please plan to join us so that an unbroken wave of prayer continues to move around the world throughout the week. 2 Scripture Union Global Prayer Guide For each s hour of prayer Working with the churches, Scripture Union aims a) to make God's Good News known to children, young people and families and b) to encourage people of all ages to meet God daily through the Bible and prayer so that they may come to personal faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, grow in Christian Maturity and become both committed church members and servants of a world in need. At the beginning of our prayer time, we commit ourselves afresh to the mission to which God calls us in our obedience to our Lord Jesus Christ and in reliance on the Holy Spirit. Pray for children, youth, and families Pray for the following being as specific as possible (don t forget to post your prayers and photos on the Global Family Facebook Group): The children, young people and families in our nation The children, young people and families in our world Pray for fresh vision and God s leading in our ministries and for the opportunities that may be open to us Pray for children, young people, and families Those who are amongst the most vulnerable Those affected by poverty, war, violence, natural disasters and disease Those we connect with in our ministries (be specific) That many may come to faith in Christ and grow in their faith Pray for fresh vision For ministries that currently exist That God may show us where needs and opportunities exist and how may respond

3 Pray for Leadership Pray for the following being as specific as possible: The leaders of our nations, churches, and other organisations Pray for staff, volunteers and Boards/Councils/Committees at every level Pray for particular leadership needs of the at this time Pray for leaders of our nations, churches, and other organisations The leaders of your nation and those of particular concern around the world Church leaders in your nation and those with global responsibilities The leaders of other organisations with whom we partner Pray for leadership Staff and for specific needs at this time The volunteers who serve in ministry, and on Boards, Councils, and committees Those who serve across the s and for partnerships/companionships Pray for leadership needs Those who are seeking to appoint staff and volunteers to key leadership positions leadership and for the changes in this transition period Pray for the Scripture Union Global Community Pray for the global community That God will give us fresh vision as we seek to fulfil our aims in obedience to God and as part of His mission For God s continued leading and development in this anniversary year For the strengthening of our fellowship, sharing, and prayer life Pray for fresh vision That God may help us fulfil our Aims in creative ways and extend our work to new areas That we may be sensitive and responsive to His leading and willing to take risks Pray for developments in this special anniversary year Pray for the new ministries that are developing and particularly with children & young people with disabilities Pray that God will continue to strengthen and extend our family of s particularly in countries where does not currently exist. Pray for strengthening of our life together That in our collective strength we may maximise our ability to fulfil our God given mission That we may build one another up through prayer, fellowship, sharing resources and collaboration That we may see through global eyes and continue to seek God s vision for us as a global movement

Prayer will commence in Tonga at (9am) on Monday 6 November and will close (1pm) Friday 10 November in Costa Rica.
