3 The exact details of the HOW and the WHY are unknown. This man had come to reveal what would happen to the Jews in the future 10:13; cf Gen 49:1; Deut 4:30; 31:29; Num 24:14. The angel revealed this to Daniel These things concerned his people 10:14. May be a continuation from 9:24-27 The things seen refer to the Kings of Persia and Greece. The Northern King is somewhat successful against the Southern King. During these wars the land of the Jews are ravaged and the people are plundered. 11

Strong s Concordance TWO USAGES OF THE NAME: In Genesis 10:4 the word is applied to the descendants of Javan, and indicates, therefore, the Greek-Latin races, whose territory extended along the coasts of the Mediterranean, and included its islands.

This word he further connects with Chethima, from Chethimus, and states that it was on account of Cyprus being the home of those people that all islands were called Chethim by the Hebrews. The derivation of an ancient Chethim from Chethimus, however, would make the m to be a radical, and this, with the substitution of Ch (= Kh) for Kittim, renders his proposed etymology somewhat doubtful. In the latter passage the Greek writer seems to have been thinking more of the Cyprian Kition than of the Hebrew [Kittim]. He destroyed the Jewish people as a nation, the city of Jerusalem fell and the temple was destroyed. BUT: Like all the other heathen nations before them Rome would fall. 29

30 IN CONCLUSION: 30 The bulk of Chapters is concerned with a further detailed treatment of the vision of Chapter 8. We learn the outcome of the Persian and Greek conflict. We see in detail the course of events in Greece after the death of Alexander the Great. We are introduced to the persecution of the righteous remnant during the intertestamental (400 year silence) period.

31 IN CONCLUSION: 31 The simple Message of These Chapters to Daniel is God will preserve His people to the time of the coming of the Messianic Kingdom. The enemy will seek to destroy it and those who serve God in it. However, the Kingdom is an eternal Kingdom and the Dominion an Everlasting Dominion. While it sometimes may appear that Heaven and the Righteous are not victorious: We need to remember that God is in Control. We do not know what He knows or see what He sees. Also, we cannot begin to question why He allows things to continue as they sometimes do. We only know that the blessings belong to those who endure Rev 3:10. And thus, we shall stand and not lose heart.
