But perfect (complete, full-grown) love drives out fear, because fear involves [the expectation of divine] punishment, so the one who is afraid [of God s judgment] is not perfected in love [has not grown into a sufficient understanding of God s love]. Isaiah 8:13 (AMP) It is the LORD of hosts whom you are to regard as holy and awesome. He shall be your [source of] fear, He shall be your [source of] dread [not man]. Ephesians 4:30 (AMP) And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [but seek to please Him], by whom you were sealed and marked [branded as God s own] for the day of redemption [the final deliverance from the consequences of sin]. 2 Timothy 1:7 (AMP) For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control]. Galatians 1:10 (AMP) Am I now trying to win the favor and approval of men, or of God? Or am I seeking to please someone? If I were still trying to be popular with men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ.
