(4) What is the media? media are communication channels through which news, entertainment, education, data, or promotional messages are disseminated. Media include every broadcasting and narrowcasting medium such as newspapers, magazines, TV, Internet, Radio, telephone. ( (5) why is the media important? Marshall McLuhan who is philosopher of communication theory and a public intellectual, he told The Medium is The message. And he thought Technologies and tools are extensions of ourselves (our limbs, eyes, ears and so on). He thought that Technologies will create new human environments. So, according to media, messages are changed and users also changed how to recognize the world. That is, media are very important in our life. ( 미디어가전달하는내용자체보다도미디어자체가인간의사고방식과행동양식에커다란영향을준다는말, 즉어떠한방법으로 ( 미디어 ) 메시지를전하는것인가는매우중요한이슈임 ) (6) why we have chosen the media? Media have a lot of positive effects (for example, increased Awareness, easy and speedy access), but, we have to be careful about Media because they have a lot of very serious problems (For example, Kids who view violent acts on TV are more likely to show aggressive behaviors, and to fear that the world is scary and that something bad will happen to them. And, TV characters often depict risky behaviors( 위험한행동을그리다 ), such as smoking, drinking, sexual acting and also reinforce genderrole and racial stereotypes. In other words, according to media, our mentality will be influenced. So, we need to know how we are dealing with media (7) The first John chapter two fifteen to seventeen. Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. Next part is CREATION.

So, please listen carefully We mentioned the meaning of media. It can deliver information to many people and can make us communicate each other. Now, let s look at media in bible. In those days, people used many kinds of documents as you can see. First one is the slate of ten commandments. Second one is manuscript of old testament. Last one is letter of apostle. First one is slates of the Ten Commandments, which God gave Moses at Mount sinai. Deuteronomy 4:13 said that He declared to you his covenant, the Ten Commandments, which he commanded you to follow and then wrote them on two stone tablets. By this slates, the Israelites could know the God s will and they conserved the slates in the ark of the covenant to commemorate God s promise. Second one is many documents about history of Israel or the prophets of God s word. Isaiah 1:1 said that The vision concerning Judah and Jerusalem that Isaiah son of Amoz saw during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah. In history of Israel, the Israelites leaved God and did evil things. Each time, God called a prophet and gave his words to the Israelites. Third one is many paper about the ministry of Jesus. Luke 1:34 said that Therefore, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, it seemed good also to me to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught. Through these papers, we could know who Jesus is and what the gospel is. Last one is many letters of apostles to early church. After ascension of Jesus, apostles tried to establish a church to preach the gospel. In those days, apostle used letter to teach the truth of God and to confirm the faith about God. Jude 1:3 said that Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints. Now, let s look into the function of media in the bible. the media made people realize sins that they have and repent them. Plus, the media can preach the God s words to many people. Also, the media make people know the gospel. In 2 kings 22:1113 is the example of function of media. we can find the scene of king Josiah s repent. Josiah never knew the words of God before. However, he found out the words of the book

3 of the law and repent all his action. After that, he reformed the Israelites. He eliminated the idols, and kept the God s words. Nowadays, the world is bigger and many events take place. So, we have to use the media to know the many cases in the world. Through the media, we could communicate with world. Plus, the media handle many things; human s thought, feeling and even world view. Therefore, if the media do not deliver accurate contents, people may have wrong thoughts. Now we will look at the fall parts by next presenter. My name is hansol kim and I will be presenting the Fall part in Media through Christian worldview. First of all, let s look at the bible. At genesis chapter 6 verse 5: the lord saw how great man s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his hart was only evil all the time. At mark chapter 7 verse 2123: for from within, out of men s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man, unclean At Galatians chapter 5 verse 1921: the acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery, idolatry and witchcraft, hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I will explain how the fall has affected the media in 3 categories. They are media manipulation through external force, immoral contents, and media addiction. Firstly, the media manipulation. The movie Inside Men, unlike other gang movies, emphasizes the influence of the press. The press in the movie, affected by the corporations, politics and gang, loses the objectivity in coverage. Secondly, the immoral contents.

4 Similar to the examples above, many movies and dramas are based on what Christian bible refers to as the sin. Like the movie Saw, many movies embrace violence, too. Finally, the media addiction. People are addicted to various types of media such as television, internet, game, smart phone and social media. I will show you a video about social media addiction made by student. In First, Mark 4:3032 said that Again he said, "What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it? It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest seed you plant in the ground. Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds of the air can perch in its shade. Bible said that Kingdom of God is like a mustard seed. Mustard seed is a very small thing in begin, but if seed grow, it becomes the largest of all garden plants. Therefore, we can say that good media in these days is not very effective and looks so insignificant. But it will make good media culture in society someday. Second, In john 1:14 said that The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. If every providers of media keep the God s words in mind, they can make a media product that consists of God s glory and grace. Finally, John 3:21 said that But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God. Everyone who use or make media culture should follow the truth in God. After that, media culture can consists of real

5 meaning of God and shine the light in Jesus. Now, I will introduce some good examples of media. First, spirits Homecoming is a one of good movies. This story is about Japanese military sexual slavery woman. These women are victims of violence of Japan imperialism. So, this movie accuses japan imperialism in social perspective. Second, the drama named good doctor is also a good media. Good doctor is a story about a man who has intellectual disabilities. The main character man has a low intelligence, but he is a genius only in medical part. Other characters in drama learn real love through this man who has intellectual disabilities. Third, the movie named the help is one of good movies. This is a story about black housekeeper who works in white s house. This movie implies that racial discrimination should be abolished for black people. This is a good examples of SNS. These pictures are about ice bucket challenge. Have you ever heard about ice bucket challenge? Almost students may heard about this through some SNS. Bill gates and our school president named soonheung Chang did ice bucket challenge for ALS people. If someone pointed out his friends in SNS, his friends who receive point should do ice bucket challenge for donation about ALS patient. Finally, these are good examples about good media organizations. Center for media responsibility and Human rights and citizens coalition for media publicness work for sound media culture in Korea. They have programs about media education and counselling for victims of media. Second, Media Mongu is one person journalism. This journalism website got many prizes in media part and Media Mongu made journalism for Japanese military sex slavery and family of the deceased of Sewol ferry. Finally, ted is also a good media in these days, this is a nonprofit foundation consists of video platform that has a purpose about making great ideas accessible and sparkling conversation.

6 Next, we will into the consummation of media. Firstly, I will talk about the kingdom of God through two verses in the Bible. Let us read together. As you can see, we know that all the cultures and traditions including media that which once perished will newly change its characteristics since God gave us this verse. Then, let us look at the next verse. Once again, let us read together. As told in the two previous verses, ultimately, in God s kingdom, media s depravity will be completely eliminated and all negative aspects will disappear. Secondly, the New Jerusalem shows us the kingdom of God. We will first look into the following verse. In this verse, New Jerusalem s wall are made with jewels and that it is a perfect cube which shows that everything in his kingdom is perfect. Finally, I will conclude. We should not see media with our viewpoint but in God s point of view by communicating with him through the Bible which means that we have to follow the best way of communication which is God s trinity. At the end, when media is complete in the kingdom of God, it will not be only influencing media itself but the different cultures around us in a positive way. If everything that we presented are acted out in our life, we will be able to accomplish the perfection of media which means that we can achieve perfection in all aspects of cultures. Thank you.
