Have You Not Read? Have you not read...? Mt 12:3 (cf. 5:21, 27) Have you not read in the law...? Mt 12:5 Have you not read? Mt 19:4 Have you never read? Mt 21:16 Did you never read? Mt 21:42 Have you not read... spoken... by God? Mt 22:31 Let the reader understand. Mt 24:15
Have You Not Read? To read (aónagnw nai). Usually in New Testament of public reading. [Note: In post-classical Greek, sometimes of reading aloud with comments. This may explain the parenthesis in Matthew 24:15.] After the liturgical services which introduced the worship of the synagogue, the minister took a roll of the law from the ark, removed its case and wrappings, and then called upon some one to read. On the Sabbaths, at least seven persons were called on successively to read portions of the law, none of them consisting of less than three verses. After the law followed a section from the prophets, which was succeeded immediately by a discourse. It was this section which Jesus read and expounded. See Acts 13:15; Nehamiah 8:5, 8. For a detailed account of the synagogue-worship, see Edersheim, Life and Times of Jesus, i., 430 sq. (Lk 4:16, Vincent s Word Studies)
Have You Not Read? Uniquely in the NT, aónaginw skein, to read, means here not the act of reading as such, but the perceiving of the sense of the text that has been read. (Lk 10:26; WBC-NT) aónaginw skeiß pres. ind. act. aónaginw skw (G336) to read. How do you read? i.e., May I hear your authorities w. exposition? (LNT, 224). [Lk 10:26, Linguistic & Exegetical Key to GNT]
Have You Not Read? The nature of the question in Mt 12:3: the neg. in the question expects yes as the answer. (GNT Key, loc. cit.) verb present active indicative second person singular (Lk 10:26, Greek Parsing for read ) verb second aorist active indicative second person plural (Mt 12:3, Greek Parsing for read )
Have You Not Read? Have you not read...? Mt 12:3 Sabbath question Have you not read in the law...? Mt 12:5 Sabbath question Have you not read? Mt 19:4 Marriage-divorce question Have you never read? Mt 21:16 Deity of Jesus question Did you never read? Mt 21:42 Jesus fulfills the OT/rejected stone Have you not read... spoken... by God? Mt 22:31 Resurrection Let the reader understand. Mt 24:15 Daniel-the fall of Jerusalem
Have You Not Read? Have you never read? Mk 2:25-26 Have you not read this scripture? Mk 12:10 Have you not read in the book of Moses? Mk 12:26 Let the reader understand Mk 13:14 He (Jesus) stood up to read. Lk 4:16 Have you not read so much as this? Lk 6:3 What is written in the law? What is your reading of it? Lk 10:26
Have You Not Read? Have you never read? Mk 2:25-26 Sabbath question Have you not read this scripture? Mk 12:10 Jesus the rejected stone Have you not read in the book of Moses? Mk 12:26 Resurrection Let the reader understand Mk 13:14 Daniel s tributlation He (Jesus) stood up to read. Lk 4:16 Jesus fulfills the OT Have you not read so much as this?
