Now srael went out to battle agast Philistes. They encamped at Ebenezer, and Philistes encamped at Aphek. 2 The Philistes drew up le agast srael, and when battle spread, srael was defeated before Philistes, who killed about four thousand men on field of battle. 3 And when people came to camp, elders of srael said, Why has LORD defeated us today before Philistes? And when man came to city and told news, all city cried out. 14 When Eli heard sound of outcry, he said, What is this uproar? And he said, How did it go, son? 17 He who brought news answered and said, srael has fled before Philistes, and re has also been a great defeat among people. Your two sons also, Hophni and Phehas, are dead, and ark of God has been captured. 18 As soon as he mentioned ark of God, Eli fell over backward from his seat by side of gate, and his neck was broken and he died, for man was old and heavy. He had udged srael forty years. 19 Now his daughter--law, wife of Phehas, was pregnant, about to give birth. And when she heard news that ark of God was captured, and that her far--law and her husband were dead, she bowed and gave birth, for her pas came upon her. 20 And about time of her death women attendg her said to her, Do not be afraid, for you have borne a son.
