3 DAY 4 Exodus 3: Then Moses said to God, Behold, I am going to the sons of Israel, and I will say to them, The God of your fathers has sent me to you. Now they may say to me, What is His name? What shall I say to them? 14 God said to Moses, I AM WHO I AM ; and He said, Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, I AM has sent me to you. 15 God, furthermore, said to Moses, Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial-name to all generations. Exodus 6:1-8 1 Then the LORD said to Moses, Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh; for under compulsion he will let them go, and under compulsion he will drive them out of his land. 2 God spoke further to Moses and said to him, I am the LORD; 3 and I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as God Almighty, but by My name, LORD, I did not make Myself known to them. 4 I also established My covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land in which they sojourned. 5 Furthermore I have heard the groaning of the sons of Israel, because the Egyptians are holding them in bondage, and I have remembered My covenant. 6 Say, therefore, to the sons of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from their bondage. I will also redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments. 7 Then I will take you for My people, and I will be your God; and you shall know that I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. 8 I will bring you to the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and I will give it to you for a possession; I am the LORD. Exodus 9:30 27 Then Pharaoh sent for Moses and Aaron, and said to them, I have sinned this time; the LORD is the righteous one, and I and my people are the wicked ones. 28 Make supplication to the LORD, for there has been enough of God s thunder and hail; and I will let you go, and you shall stay no longer. 29 Moses said to him, As soon as I go out of the city, I will spread out my hands to the LORD; the thunder will cease and there will be hail no longer, that you may know that the earth is the LORD S. 30 But as for you and your servants, I know that you do not yet fear the LORD God. Formed י צ ר (yā ṣǎr): 1. form, fashion, shape, forge, i.e., create an object out of existing material, or within existing events time (Ge 2:7); be formed (Isa 43:10); be forged (Isa 54:17); 2. (qal) plan, devise, prepare, i.e., think about future actions with a particular plan of action as an extension of forming an object by artistic, careful design (2Ki 19:25); (pual) ordained (Ps 139:16); 3. (qal ptcp.) Maker, Creator, i.e., one who forms and fashions material, as a title of God (Isa 27:11; 3

4 45:9, 11; Jer 10:16; 51:19+) 2 Breath Heb. n e šām refers most commonly to the physical act of taking in air (from the verb nāšam to breathe ). In general use, the expression breath of life (Heb. nep eš ḥayyâ, e.g., Gen. 1:30; rûaḥ ḥayyîm, 6:17; 7:15) simply characterizes living creatures. At 2:7 human breath is expressly represented as a gift of God. Breathing is associated with both the mouth (Job 41:21; Ps. 135:17) and the nose (e.g., Job 27:3; Lam. 4:20). In figurative use, breath refers most commonly to the spirit, both human and divine (e.g., Job 27:3; 34:14 15; cf. 15:30). At Job 32:8 it is the spirit in a man (here parallel to the breath of the Almighty ) which is the source of wisdom and understanding. The breath of God is capable of inflicting punishment on mankind (Job 4:9; Isa. 11:4; 30:28; 2 Thess. 2:8; cf. Dan. 5:23). Genesis 7:4 For after seven more days, I will send rain on the earth forty days and forty nights; and I will blot out from the face of the land every living thing that I have made. 7 they have done nothing of all that You commanded them to do; therefore You have made all this calamity come upon them. 24 Behold, the siege ramps have reached the city to take it; and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans who fight against it, because of the sword, the famine and the pestilence; and what You have spoken has come to pass; and behold, You see it. 25 You have said to me, O Lord GOD, Buy for yourself the field with money and call in witnesses although the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans. 26 Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying, 27 Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me? Isaiah 37: Then Hezekiah took the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it, and he went up to the house of the LORD and spread it out before the LORD. 15 Hezekiah prayed to the LORD saying, 16 O LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, who is enthroned above the cherubim, You are the God, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth. 17 Incline Your ear, O LORD, and hear; open Your eyes, O LORD, and see; and listen to all the words of Sennacherib, who sent them to reproach the living God. 18 Truly, O LORD, the kings of Assyria have devastated all the countries and their lands, 19 and have cast their gods into the fire, for they were not gods but the work of men s hands, wood and stone. So they have destroyed them. 20 Now, O LORD our God, deliver us from his hand that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You alone, LORD, are God. Acts 17: So Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, Men of Athens, I observe that you are very religious in all respects. 23 For while I was passing through and examining the objects of your worship, I also found an altar with this inscription, TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore what you worship in ignorance, this I proclaim to you. 24 The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; 25 nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things; 26 and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, Hebrews 1:1-3, God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, 2 in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. 3 And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 8 But of the Son He says, YOUR THRONE, O GOD, IS FOREVER AND EVER, AND THE RIGHTEOUS SCEPTER IS THE SCEPTER OF HIS KINGDOM. 9 YOU HAVE LOVED RIGHTEOUSNESS AND HATED LAWLESSNESS; THEREFORE GOD, YOUR GOD, HAS ANOINTED YOU 7

8 WITH THE OIL OF GLADNESS ABOVE YOUR COMPANIONS. 10 And, YOU, LORD, IN THE BEGINNING LAID THE FOUNDATION OF THE EARTH, AND THE HEAVENS ARE THE WORKS OF YOUR HANDS; 11 THEY WILL PERISH, BUT YOU REMAIN; AND THEY ALL WILL BECOME OLD LIKE A GARMENT, 12 AND LIKE A MANTLE YOU WILL ROLL THEM UP; LIKE A GARMENT THEY WILL ALSO BE CHANGED. BUT YOU ARE THE SAME, AND YOUR YEARS WILL NOT COME TO AN END. 8
