7 The Etiquette of Lending Books Shaykh Saalih bin Abdul-Aziz Aali Shaykh (May Allah be pleased with him) From the etiquettes related to books, also, is: The manners of lending out books. Giving out books for people to borrow is not allowed unless you are giving them to someone that you trust will care for the books. The reason for this is because you have the most right to your book, unless you find someone else that is in need of the book and who, when he finishes using it, will return it back to you. It is mentioned in the biography of Al- Khateeb Al-Baghdaadee that a man once asked him if he could borrow one of his books, so he replied saying: You have three days to use it. The man said: That is not enough time. So Al-Khateeb said: I have counted its pages, so if you want to make a copy of it, then three days is sufficient for you. And if you want to read it, then three days is sufficient for you. And if you want to do more than that with it, then I have the most right to my book. This is correct, since in the past I had lent the first volume of a large book consisting of eight volumes to a brother - I don t want to mention the title of the book, since perhaps he may hear this and think I m insinuating him - and now nearly twelve years have passed on, and he still has not returned it to me,. And he tells me he doesn t know where he put it. Similarly, the eighth volume of another set even though I m not worried so much over it however, more than twenty years have passed and until now, he has not given it back. This is why a poet once said: Do not lend your books And make your answer some excuse Whoever does in fact lend a book, I swear, he has not done something good. Another person said: The perdition of books is in lending them. Please continue reading the article it is very beneficial alhamdulillah at Other Suggested Books for this age group are as follows: Usooluth Thalaatha (For Children) from Tawheed for Children Part 1 & 2 - from Aqeedah Course Part 1 By Moosa Richardson (find all copies on THM site) Book Package # 3 Age Group: 4-7 yrs. 8 8 THIS WORKBOOK BELONGS TO Remember, before we begin anything we say the Basmalah. You start by saying Bismillah meaning: In the Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy View how it is written in the Arabic form below. Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-uthaymeen, may Allah be pleased with his affair (scholar who explained to us about the 3 Fundamental Principles) used to write this at the beginning of his books because it is in accordance with the Book of Allah and the Authentic Sunnah of the Messenger (May Allah s peace, mercy and blessings be upon him). Can you say Bismillaahir Ar- Rahmanir Raheem? Follow the example of our Prophet by practicing the saying and writing of the Basmalah two times each You may practice more on an additional piece of paper if you need to inshaallah. ب س م اهلل ال ر ح من ال ر ح يم 1. Who is Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al Uthaymeen (rahimullah)? 2. Why did he use to write the Basmalah in his books? 3. When should you use the Basmalah? Before we begin we say...

9 Allah is the Most Merciful to all of the creation Understanding The Senses

10 Lesson 1: Allah has given me a pair of eyes It is He, Who has created for you (the sense of) hearing (ears), sight (eyes), and hearts (understanding). Little thanks you give. (Al-Mu'minun 23:78) Alhamdulillah, can you point to your eyes? They are above your nose. Allah has given us eyes, a tongue and a nose. Alhamdulillah! All of these things are a blessing to you from Allah. They are a special gift and you must be very careful to guard them, take care of them and to be thankful to Allah for them, inshaallah. Why are my eyes so important? Your eyes are important because they allow you to see! Your eyes are able to see things, objects, and people whether they be small or big. Some people wear eye glasses or contact lenses and this helps them to see better. There are some people who cannot see at all. They have no sight. They are blind. Have you ever seen a blind person? Can you name a scholar who is or was blind? Activity/Exercise Why should I show Allah that I am grateful for giving me my eyes? Using a piece of cloth (or under scarf) wrap it around your eyes and tie it snuggly and fit so that you cannot see anything inshaallah. Enter into a familiar room. Turn off the lights so that it remains dark. Now try to find your favorite toy, Jilbaab, kufi or other objects inshaallah. Do this for two to three minutes. Look for additional items if necessary. Can you tell what it must be like for someone who really cannot see? They do this everyday, all day with the exception that they do not have a blindfold. Say Alhamdulillah, for Allah s blessings upon you. To be able to have eyes that see, is a blessing from Allah. What is the name for the person who cannot see? Color Me...

11 Lesson 2: Allah has given me a pair of ears Say (to the disbelievers): "Tell me, if Allâh took away your hearing and your sight, and sealed up your hearts, who is there other than Allâh who could restore them to you?" See how variously We explain the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), yet they turn aside. (Al-An 'am 6:46) THE EAR Point to your ears. They are located on both sides of your head. Listen closely, can you hear anything around you? MashaAllah! Your ears are a blessing to you from Allah. They are a special gift and you must be very careful to guard them, take care of them and to be thankful to Allah, for them inshaallah. What are sounds? Sounds are what you can hear with your ears. Like a baby crying, or a car horn and even the little cricket singing its song. All of these things are called sounds. Can you think of other types of sounds? Name three sounds that you can think of.. Why are my ears so important? Your ears are important because they allow you to hear what is happening around you! Your hearing gives you the ability to listen to other people like your Ummi and Abi, to lectures online, Qur aan recitation, and so much more. Some people have trouble hearing. They may wear something called a hearing aide. This allows them to hear more clearly the sounds around them or when someone talks to them. There are some people who cannot hear at all. This is not because they don t have ears, but because they have lost the ability to hear with them. Some people were born with no hearing at all. The word for a person who can not hear is deaf. We must thank Allah for giving us this blessing of hearing with our ears inshaallah. 1. What does a hearing aide do? Cont on page What does deaf mean? 3. Can a person be born deaf?

12 How Do You Hear Why should I show Allah that I am grateful for my hearing? To explain hearing is very complicated. But if you listen closely inshaallah you will understand. When an object makes a noise, it sends vibrations (sound waves) speeding through the air. These vibrations are then funneled into your ear canal by your outer ear. As the vibrations move into your middle ear, they hit your eardrum and cause it to vibrate as well. This sets off a chain reaction of vibrations. Your eardrum, which is smaller and thinner than your pinky fingernail, vibrates the three smallest bones in your body: first, the hammer, then the anvil, and finally, the stirrup. The stirrup passes the vibrations into a coiled tube in the inner ear called the cochlea. The fluid-filled cochlea contains thousands of hair-like nerve endings called cilia. When the stirrup causes the fluid in the cochlea to vibrate, the cilia move. The cilia change the vibrations into messages that are sent to the brain via the auditory nerve. The auditory nerve carries messages from 25,000 receptors in your ear to your brain. Your brain then makes sense of the messages and tells you what sounds you are hearing. And Allah knows best. As your reading follow the diagram below. Everywhere around you there are sounds, can you name the sounds below What sound do I make? The Mu adhdhin He makes the call to prayer What sound do you hear? Repeat after the Mu adhdhin What sound do I make? The Salaat When we pray we must recite al- Fatihah or our prayers will not be accepted. Recite the Al-Fatihah. how did it sound? Listen to someone else recite it too. What sound do I make? Have you ever heard the birds singing outside of your window? What sounds do they make? What surah in the Qur aan talks about birds?

13 Lesson 3: Allah has given me a Tongue and two lips Good speech and actions are from good character. Allah created you and gave us the ability to speak. We use our mouths, tongues and our lips when we talk. What should we know about the tongue? 1. We learn from the Salaf that the tongue expresses what is in the heart. So if a person works to have a good heart you will see it in his speech. 2. We have also learned, that if you use your tongue correctly then it has blessings in this action. One of those blessings is communication (being able to talk and tell others what you are thinking). 3. We should be grateful to Allah for this blessing of speech by being obedient to Him and increasing in acts of worship like reading Qur aan, speaking good, and too dhikr much (remember Allah). There is a warning about too Much Talk for a Muslim! So you must remember, that Allah says in the Qur aan: Not a word is said except that there is a watcher by Him ready to record it. Surah Qaf:18 Angels record everything that you say or do. They are very obedient to Allah and they do not disobey him. So if you say something good it is written, and if you say something bad it is written down also. Allah says: O you who believe, fear Allah and speak the truth. He will direct you to do righteous deeds and forgive you your sins and whosoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, then indeed he has achieved a great achievement 33:70-71 Instructions: Read the lesson completely. Think about what you have read. Remember the hadith and ayaat. Review what you have learned. Truthful Good Deeds Tongue Speech Watcher All-Seeing All-Hearing Records Silent Before you speak ask yourself some questions, inshaallah 1. Am I saying something that will be pleasing to Allah? 2. Will my speech bring me closer to Allah? 3. Is this saying upon obedience to Allah? If you said yes to any of these questions then you should speak, but if you said no to any of the questions then you must keep silent. So that a bad deed will not be written for you inshaallah. Allah says in the Qur aan: Verily your Lord is ever watchful over them. Ibn Abbas (radi allahu anhu) said: ever watchful, means That Allah sees and hears everything you do! Indeed a servant may say a word from which Allah s pleasure is gained and the servant does not realize it, Allah will raise him up levels... Narrated by Abu Hurairah Sahih Al-Bukhari 8/485 Homework Assignment 1 Give some examples of good speech. Example: Saying SubhanaAllah Glory be to Allah

14 Allah is the Most Merciful to all of the creation Nature and It s wonders Alhamdulillah

15 Lesson 4: Allah is the Most Merciful to all of the creation Ummi, What is rain? Explanation Sheet Allah says: Do they not see that Allah enlarges the provision for whom he wills and straitens (it for whom he wills), Verily, in that are indeed signs for a people who believe. 30: 37 Allah created the rain, and it replenishes the earth and brings forth water for you and the animals to drink. Rain can come in many forms like snow, sleet, hail, and dew. Instructions: Read the lesson completely. Think about what you have read. Remember the hadith and ayaat. Review what you have learned. We all benefit from the rain 1. The earth is replenished with water when it rains. This allows the plants, trees and vegetables to grow and not to become dried out. 2. The rain provides water to animals. Some insects are born from water, can you guess which ones? Do some research on the internet to find your answers. 3. Mankind is in need of water too! We drink water everyday and this replenishes (moistens the cells) your body. The Human body consist of about 60 to 75% of water. Reread the statement above (1st paragraph) and think about what it says. Say alhamdulillah, for truly Allah is merciful for creating the rain for you and for me Bonus Question: From the lesson can you name another benefit that Allah provides to animals and mankind? This is also something that you do everyday! There are several duas you can say at the time that it is either raining, when you are in need of rain, or after it rains inshaallah. Hadith 1 Allahumma sayyiban naafi an O Allah, (bring) beneficial rain clouds. Fortress of the Muslim. Pg.138; Found in Sahih al-bukhari and Fathul-Bari Allah created bodies of water. They have different names like the ocean, Sea, lakes and some natural waterfalls inshaallah. A storm is a heavy fall of rain, hail, sleet or snow. There are several types of storms that come from water. Tsunami, hurricanes, thunderstorms, and floods Allah has provided lots, and lots of reflection for us regarding rain in the Noble Qur aan. Read the following ayaat for reflection inshaallah Al-Baqarah 2: 22 Homework Assignment 1 Do you know the story of Prophet Nuh (alaihi salaam)? Have you read how the earth was covered by the flood back then? Read the Stories of the Prophets by Ibn Kathir to find out more.

16 Lesson 5: What is a waterfall? What is a Waterfall? Do you remember that we talked about different types of water that Allah has provided for us like lakes, seas, oceans, streams, snow, and hail? Well, one type of water is the waterfall. A waterfall is usually a formation resulting from water, often in the form of a stream, flowing over an erosion-resistant rock formation that forms a sudden break in elevation or nick point. Some waterfalls form in mountain environments where the water force is high and stream courses may be subject to sudden and catastrophic change. In such cases, the waterfall may not be the end product of many years of water action over a region, but rather the result of relatively sudden processes such as landslides, faults or volcanic action. Waterfalls may also be artificial, and they are sometimes created as garden and landscape ornaments. These are the ones you and I usually see. Experiment 1: Make your own waterfall Make yours in a part of the garden that you ve checked it s ok to use. With a waterfall the water has to... fall. So you ll need to build one piece of land up higher than the rest. Use flat stones like a real waterfall to give your river a solid base to run over to become a waterfall and you can cover the rocks with dirt for the water to erode away. Using a large pot or measuring cup, start pouring water from the highest end of the river you have made. Now watch your very own waterfall. More about waterfalls... There are three main ways that a waterfall can be made. One is when a river bed flows along it washes away the soft earth or rock from around harder rock. This is called erosion. If the softer rock is downstream from the harder rock it will erode the soft rock away and a waterfall will form. Another common way that waterfalls form is when a glacier - a very slow moving huge river of ice - grinds it s way down a valley making the valley much bigger than it was. When smaller valleys that had been running into the glacier valley are left behind they empty any water that was flowing out of them into the air and a waterfall is formed. Sometimes in an earthquake a piece of land can be lifted up about the land around it. If there was a river flowing over that land an instant waterfall can form.

17 Lesson 6: What is a Volcano? What is a Volcano? A volcano is a naturally occurring opening in the surface of the Earth through which molten, gaseous, and solid material is ejected. There are more than 500 active volcanoes in the world! More than half of these volcanoes are part of the Ring of Fire, which is the area that circles the Pacific Ocean. Experiment 2: Make your own Volcano 1. First make the 'cone' of the baking soda volcano. Mix 6 cups flour, 2 cups salt, 4 tablespoons cooking oil, and 2 cups of water. The resulting mixture should be smooth and firm (more water may be added if needed). 2. Stand the soda bottle in the baking pan and mold the dough around it into a volcano shape. Don't cover the hole or drop dough into it! 3. Fill the bottle most of the way full with warm water and a bit of red food color (can be done before sculpting if you don't take so long that the water gets cold). 4. Add 6 drops of detergent to the bottle contents. 5. Add 2 tablespoons baking soda to the liquid. 6. Slowly pour vinegar into the bottle. Watch out - eruption time! 7. Chemistry is Cool! Tips: 1. The cool red lava is the result of a chemical reaction between the baking soda and vinegar. 2. In this reaction, carbon dioxide gas is produced, which is also present in real volcanoes. 3. As the carbon dioxide gas is produced, pressure builds up inside the plastic bottle, until the gas bubbles (thanks to the detergent) out of the 'volcano'. 4. Adding a bit of yellow food coloring too will result in lovely red-orange lava! What You Need: 6 cups flour 2 cups salt 4 tablespoons cooking oil warm water plastic soda bottle dishwashing detergent food coloring vinegar baking dish or other pan 2 T baking soda buildavolcano.htm Deep inside Earth, there is a solid mass of rock called the mantle. When rock from the mantle melts and moves to the surface through the earth s crust and releases built-up gases, volcanoes erupt. Very, very high temperature and pressure causes the rock to melt and become liquid rock called magma. When the magma rises through the denser rock layers and reaches the Earth s surface, it is called lava. Imagine how hot it must be!

18 Lesson 7: What is an Earthquake? From the Signs of the Hour An Increase in Killing, Diseases and Earthquakes Aboo Khadeejah continues, from the signs of the hour, also, is that killing will increase. More and more people will get killed to the extent that it is reported from the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) that a person will get killed and he will not know why he has been killed, and the one who kills will not know for what reason he killed. New diseases will appear, diseases that have not been seen before. And also, an increase in earthquakes and tremors upon the earth, that they will become more widespread and more frequent. So all of these are from the signs of the hour, which each and every one of us has to take heed of and be aware of, so that we know how to combat the diseases that our peers from amongst mankind, from the diseases of ignorance and becoming negligent is worship, negligent in action and negligent in following the Sunnah of the Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam). And Allah says in Surah Az- Zalzalah: 99 When the earth is shaken with its (final) earthquake. And when the earth throws out its burdens. And man will say: What is the matter with it? That day it will declare its information (about all that happened over it of good or evil). Because your Lord will inspire it. That Day mankind will proceed in scattered groups that they may be shown their deeds. So whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom (or small ant) shall see it. And whosoever does evil equal to the weight of an atom (or small ant) shall see it. From the words of our beloved Messenger (salla allahu alaihi wa salaam) Narrated Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) Do you know what it s information is? The companions said: Allah and his Messenger know best. He (salla allahu alaihi wa salaam) said: Its news is that it will give testimony about the deeds performed over it by every male and female slave of Allah. It will say, Such and such person performed such and such deeds on such and such day : that will be its information. And Allah says: Al-Kahf - 18:49 And they will find all that they did placed before them Earthquakes are caused by the release of built-up pressure inside the Earth's crust, in the form of seismic waves. An earthquake's power is measured on the Richter scale, using an instrument called a seismometer. A seismometer is a sensitive machine, which picks up the vibrations caused by the earthquake. It plots these vibrations on a seismograph. The strength, or magnitude, of an earthquake is measured using a scale called the Richter Scale. The Richter Scale is numbered 0-10: An earthquake measuring one or two on the scale is very common and can happen everyday in places like San Francisco. These earthquakes are so small that they can only be picked up by a seismometer: people cannot feel them. An earthquake measuring around seven or eight on the Richter Scale can be devastating, e.g. the earthquake in Turkey of 1999 which measured 7.5 on the Richter scale. The effects of an earthquake can be devastating: destroying settlements, changing landscapes, and causing many deaths.

25 Allah is the Most Merciful to all of the creation Companions of the Prophet Following the footsteps of those who have gone before us...

26 Lesson 13: Abdullah bin Umar (radi allahu anhu) Abdullah bin Umar is the son of Umar bin Al-Khattab (radi allahu anhumma), who was the second caliph of Islam. When Abdullah was seven years old his father accepted Islam. Abdullah went with his father to visit the prophet (salla allahu alaihi wa sallaam) so that he could tell him that he accepts Islaam too. At that time, there were many hardships and trials for the Muslims. They were being tortured by the Quraish. It became so bad that the prophet (salla allahu alaihi wa sallaam) told the Muslims to migrate to Yathrib were they would be safe to practice their religion and worship Allah freely. Abdullah and his family were one of the first families to make Hijrah to Al-Madinah (Yathrib). When the prophet (salla allahu alaihi wa sallaam) and his companion Abu Bakr (radi allahu anhu) arrived in al-madinah a few months later. They were greeted by all the young boys with great joy. Abdullah tried to stay around the prophet (salla allahu alaihi wa sallaam) everyday after his arrival. When Abdullah was just thirteen years old the first battle of Islam took place, The Battle of Badr. Abdullah was to young to participate in this battle and the Battle of Uhud. So he stayed home and prayed for their victory. When Abdullah turned fifteen he had the opportunity to participate in The Battle of Ditch, by helping the Muslims dig the trench around the city, alhamdulillah may Allah reward him for his efforts, Aameen. To find out much more about this companion please read: Abdullah is a pious man. Bukhari The Golden Series of the Prophet s companions Abdullah bin Umar (radi allahu anhu) The Jurist Written By: Abdul Basit Ahmad Edited By: Aqeel walker and Muhammad Ayub Sapra The merits of `Abdullah bin Umar (radi allahu anhum) `Abdullah bin Umar (radi allahu anhum) narrated: In the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (salla allahu alaihi wa sallaam), whosoever saw a dream would report it to the Messenger of Allah (salla allahu alaihi wa sallaam). I wished seeing a dream to report it to the Prophet (salla allahu alaihi wa sallaam). I was a youth and used to sleep in the mosque in the lifetime of the messenger of Allah (salla allahu alaihi wa sallaam). I saw in a dream that two angels caught hold of me and took me to the fire which was built all around like a built well and had two poles in it and the people in it were known to me. I started saying I seek refuge with Allah from the Fire. Then I met another angel who told me not to be afraid. I reported the dream to Hafsah (his sister) who told it to the Messenger of Allah (salla allahu alaihi wa sallaam). The Prophet (salla allahu alaihi wa sallaam) said, Abdullah is a good man, if he performs Tahajjud prayer. Salim said: After that `Abdullah (Salim s father) used to sleep but a little at night. Sahih Bukhari/Sahih Muslim
