(Qur an Al=Imran ) KEEPING THE KINGSTON MUSLIM COMMUNITY TOGETHER President s Message by Mohammad Saleem Assalam-o-alaikum Brothers and Sisters in Islam, Alhamdulillah, we are passing through the blessed month of Ramadan in peace, and infinite blessings of Allah SWT are being showered on us. There is plenty of food at most of the homes, Saturday Iftars attracts huge crowds, we travel to Masjid in comfortable cars, and then we prostrate in front of Allah SWT in an air-conditioned building. We must be very grateful to Allah SWT for all these bounties in this country of Canada. At occasions we express our goodwill and share the plentiful with our fellow Canadians by inviting them to the Islamic Center. Normally this state of affairs should satisfy many of us and be comfortable with it. In reality human consciousness extends beyond the material well-being of our lives. For a Muslim this life has very short span and a time to prepare to for a longer and eternal life of the hereafter. Our commitments also include the welfare of our fellow Muslims around the globe (Ummah) and the general humanity in this contemporary world. Some term it internationalism in the modern sociopolitical terminology. discrimination are some of the traits associated with some of the Muslim countries. While these lines were being written 159 people, including children, have been killed in Gaza through brutal aggression. Hardly any effective voice has been raised against this aggression. It seems that no government in the Muslim world, in the West, or globally, are seriously interested to alleviate the sufferings of the Palestinians, while Palestinians resistance against injustice continues unabated for more than 60 years. What can we do in this country? Asking for justice for everyone is our right we should continue impressing on all levels of governments in Canada to seek justice for Palestinians. We can contribute on humanitarian basis through registered Canadian charities, and above all be aware of the situation in the Muslim world and the world in general. There is also injustice in the world as a whole, there is a huge gap between the incomes of the rich and poor, paradoxically all admit it, but barely any steps have been taken to bridge this gap to alleviate the global poverty. Under all circumstances we have faith and should hope for a better world. Insha Allah, Eidul Fitr will be on Monday, July 28, Eid prayer will be at Cataraqui Arena near the Islamic Center. Complete details about Eid arrangements will be provided separately. EID MUBARAK to all of you. May Allah SWT make this Eid a blessing for all of us and relieve the sufferings of all the Muslims around the world and bring peace on this earth. Let us look at the present-day situation of the Ummah. Muslim population is around 1.6 billion, which is about 23 % of the world population. Recognizing that there are some Muslim countries which have made progress in political pluralism, education and technical skills. They make some contribution at the global level. Some rulers go to the extent of showing their financial aggrandizement by building tall structures. Yet, it is sad to admit that the overall plight of the Muslim Ummah is very dismal and it makes it further gloomier that there is no remedy sought. It is a month of self-discipline in which we increase our good deeds and worship, and abstain from bad habits, in an attempt to learn self-restraint, and grow closer to Allah. During the day, we may feel pangs of hunger and thirst, giving us a taste of what those less fortunate go through every day. While we appreciate the food and drink we have as we break our fast each evening, we also realize that there are many around the world, even as close as our backyard who may not have this privilege. Part of fasting is to increase our empathy towards those who are less fortunate, to remind of us what we have, and to share it with those who need it. Atif Rahman Acting Coordinator Member Member Member Member This Ramadan marks the third year of the Give30 campaign, an initiative of Ziyaad Mia to fight hunger within our communities by giving the money one would have spent on food and drink in Ramadan to the local food bank. Food banks across Canada receive hundreds of thousands of visits each month, and more than one third of food bank clients are children. This year, Partners in Mission Food Bank has joined in the campaign. Regardless of faith, whether fasting or not, please consider donating and encouraging others to donate to this cause. Even a small amount can make a big difference in the lives of others. As we are reminded by Prophet Muhammad (saw), Whoever goes to bed while his neighbor is hungry is not a true believer." In this context, a neighbor is considered as anyone within forty houses in each direction. 3 THE BOND JULY 2014 / RAMADAN Issue 7 3 Education Committee The Power of Shadaqa (Giving charity) in The Month of Ramadan The annual coming of month Ramadan is always be the special moment for the believers, due the numerous amount of virtues in this month. Rewards, and forgiven of Allah spread across every single second and place during this sacred month. One who realizes how small the preparation he has to welcome the Judgement Day later on, will be very pleased to welcome Ramadan. One who acknowledges how many sins he has committed, will have no other feeling but happiness and joy in welcoming the Ramadan. of indications that tell about the luck, virtue, and noble position of the alms giver. Ibn Hajar Al Haitami had collected hundreds of hadith about the virtues of giving alms in a book titled Al Inaafah Fimaa Ja a Fis Shadaqah Wad Dhiyaafah, although some of the hadith need to be checked for it s authenticity. The virtues seem to be gathered altogether in this one deed: giving alms. Thus, it is very awkward for those who already knew about those indications but their hearts are still unmoved and their hands are still away from increasing their alms. Among the virtues of giving alms are: 1. Giving alms can erase one s sins Giving alms can erase sins just like water ceases fire. (Narrated by Tirmidhi, classed sahih by Al Albani in Shahih At Tirmidzi, in hadith no. 614) True believer, is The Generous One One of the door that Allah has opened to His slaves to gain big rewards in the month Ramadan is through sadaqa. Islam always advise it s followers to give plenty of charities, especially during the month Ramadan. And that supposes to be the manner of believers; generous. Allah and His messenger ordered, even gave example to the followers of Islam to be a generous and open-handed person. Know that generosity is one of the attribute of Allah the Exalted, as revealed in hadith below: Indeed, Allah the Exalted is the Giver, He love generosity and noble manners, He detest bad manners. (Narrated by Al Baihaqi, classed sahih by Al Albani in Shahihul Jami, 1744) In this hadith, we can infer that stinginess and tight-fisted are bad manners and are not the characteristic of manner of a true believer. Just as begging for alms is not the characteristic of a believer. But a believer is the open handed person, a lavish giver. The Excellence of Alms Giving The already forgiven sins should be followed immediately by repentance from the previous sins. And it is not as those who commit corruption, usury, stealing, skewing, taking the wealth of the orphans, and before they do it, they have planned to give alms after it, so that their sins will be erased. This act is forbidden, because the doer will feel they re safe from the assault of Allah, which is a big sin. Allah the Exalted decreed: Do they feel secure against Allah s design? None can feel secure against Allah s design except the utter losers. (QS. Al A raf: 99) 2. One who gives alms will be rewarded a shade in the Last Day The messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon himtold about the 7 groups of people who will get shade on the day where there are no shade but from Allah, that is the Last Day. One of the groups is: a man who gives charitable gifts so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand has given. (Narrated by. Bukhari in hadith no. 1421) Allah the Glorified and Exalted highly praise those who spend their money in charity and giving alms. He promise abundant of virtues and magnificent rewards for them. There are hundreds

Giving alms gives bless to one s wealth An Nawawee explained that: It means the proof or evidence of the true faith the giver possesses. Hence alms (sadaqa) is termed likewise, because it is the proof of the truth of his faith (Shidqu Imanihi) Wealth will not be decreased by giving by giving charity. And a forgiving slave must be rewarded by Allah with authority. (Narrated by Muslim, no. 2588) What is the meaning of not decreasing in wealth? Imam An Nawawee explained in his work Syarh Shahih Muslim, that: The scholars mentioned that it means two things: First, the wealth will be blessed and protected from dangers. Thus the decrease will be covered with this abstract bless. It can be felt by senses, and habits. Second, if in fact the wealth looks decreased, this decreasing will be covered by the rewards of giving alms, and the rewards indeed will be double-folded to many times. 4. Allah will double fold the reward of the alms giver Allah the Exalted decreed, Verily those who give alms be they men or women, -and give Allah a beautiful loan shall be repaid after increasing it many times; and theirs shall be a generous reward. (Qs. Al Hadid/The Iron: 18) 5. There is a door of Paradise that ll only be entered by the alms giver Whoever gives two kinds (of things or property) in charity for Allah s Cause, will be called from the gates of Paradise and will be addressed, O slaves of Allah! Here is prosperity. So, whoever was amongst the people who used to offer their Salat (prayers), will be called from the gate of the salat ; and whoever was amongst the people who used to participate in Jihad, will be called from the gate of Jihad ; and whoever was amongst those who used to observe fasts, will be called from the gate of Ar-Raiyan ; whoever was amongst those who used to give As-Sadaqa (charity), will be called from the gate of As-Sadaqa. (Narrated by Bukhari in hadith no. 3666, Muslim no. 1027) 6. Giving alms is the proof of faith 7. Giving alms can save the giver from the torments inside the grave An alms will quench the fire of torment inside the grave. (Narrated by Thabrani, classed sahih by Al Albani in his work Shahih At Targhib, no. 873) 8. Giving alms can prevent a merchant from doing wickedness in his trade O people of trade! Indeed the Shaitan and sin are present in the sale, so mix your sales with charity. (Narrated by Tirmidzi no. 1208, he commented: Hasan sahih ) 9. One who gives alms will be peaceful and happy in his heart The messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon himset a good example about a generous man and a miser as follows: The example of a miser and an alms-giver is like the example of two persons wearing two iron cloaks from their breasts to their collar bones; and when the alms-giver gives in charity, the cloak becomes capacious till it covers his whole body to such an extent that it hides his fingertips and covers his footprints (obliterates his tracks).and when the miser wants to spend, it (the iron cloak) sticks and (its) every ring gets stuck to its place, he tries to widen it, but it does not become wide. (Narrated by Bukhari in hadith no. 1443) And in fact, this condition can be proven by ourselves, when we feel happy, proud, and peace after giving alms to the needy. And there are still many of indications that tell about the benefits of alms and the virtues of giving alms. Don t we feel moved by it? Alms is a proof. (Narrated by Muslim in hadith no. 223)

The system that campers will work on will range from simple machines, to star war robots, to the Robotic Invention System, to the new NXT system. Please note that both weeks contain the same learning material. Therefore, you can register your child in either week. However, if you decided to register for both weeks, your child will have the chance to work on different and more complicated projects. All the tools and equipment will be provided, however, Campers are welcome to bring their own laptops. Lunch and snacks will not be provided so please bring your own. Spaces are limited.
