Please note, if you have not booked your child s lunches for the following week, you will have to provide them with a packed lunch. Many thanks for your cooperation. PARENTPAY FEEDBACK We have had lots of positive feedback from parents regarding Parent Pay, however we have received a couple of negative comments also. Can we remind parents that we are here to help in any way we can to alleviate some of the issues some parents may have when trying to book meals, infant children & children on free school meals can book their meals right up to Feb half term but parents who pay must have enough money in their account to pay for their lunches. Online payments and meal bookings are here to stay and most schools now use this method including all high schools to safeguard parents and staff and to make sure your child receives the meal they want. Once again we are here to help, particularly Mrs Ghiwala, who knows everything about Parent Pay! Thank you for your ongoing cooperation with these changes. MORNING LINE UP Please can we remind parents that children should be in the line for 8.45am, if they are not then they are late and have to come through the main office where they will receive a late mark, discretion is applied by staff if children join the back of the line before all the children are in but it is up to parents to make sure they are on time as lateness means they won t receive a club golden ticket. Thank you. SCHOOL UNIFORM Please can we remind parents that their children should be wearing our school uniform, this is polos shirts and sweatshirts with the school logo, grey trousers/skirts, grey tights and black school shoes, not trainers. Thanks for your cooperation.

2 EXTREME HAIRCUTS Please can we remind parents that we don t allow extreme haircuts in school, these include tram lines and Number 1 cuts. Thank you YEAR 1 EDUCATIONAL VISIT As part of their Science topic on learning about animal life cycles a company called Critters 2 You will be visiting both Year 1 classes next Thursday 24 January, to talk about animal life cycles. The cost of the visit is 3, please pay online on ParentPay by next Tuesday 22 January. Thank you. YEAR 6 ACTIVITIES MEETING All parents of children in Year 6 are invited to attend a meeting this Thursday 17 January at 2.45pm regarding Activities Week. It is very important that a member of the family attends as the children will be attending a residential trip. Thank you. CHATTY HANDS Chatty Hands will continue from this Thursday between 8.45am-9.15am in the school hall. SWIMMING YEAR 4 Swimming will resume this Friday 18 January. Thank you. KS1 HOUSEPOINT WINNERS As a reward for having the most house points over the last term, all children in Years 1-2 who are in the house groups Horse Chestnut can come to school in non-uniform in their house colours green (no football shirts please) this Friday 18 January. KS2 HOUSEPOINT WINNERS As a reward for having the most house points over the last term, all children in Years 3-6 who are in the house groups Beech can come to school in non-uniform in their house colours blue (no football shirts please) this Friday 18 January. INTERNET SAFETY WORKSHOP We are offering a parent workshop on e-safety and keeping families safe online next Monday 21 February at 1.00pm-1.30pm. We will need a minimum of 10 parents for this workshop to run, if you are interested, please can you let the school office know by this Friday morning. FIRE SAFETY TALK YEAR 2 Blackburn Fire Station officers will be visiting Year 2 next Wednesday afternoon to talk about the dangers of fire.

3 RECEPTION - STAY & EXPLORE We are replacing the Parents Evening in March for Reception classes, with Stay and Explore sessions Please can all Reception parents attend an information meeting next Friday 25 January at 8.50am in the school hall where further information will be given. DEBATING COMPETITIONS Over the next few weeks the children from the Year 5/6 debating team will be involved in a series of competitions being held at Wensley Fold. YEAR 5 FRANCE TRIP PAYMENTS Please note all payments for the France trip MUST be paid by Thursday 28 February. Thank you. SING TOGETHER CONCERT Tickets are now on sale and are priced at 6 per adult and 1.50 per child. They can be bought at King Georges Hall or on their website Please note the children s concert date is Monday 11 March 2019.

5 CHILDREN S UNIVERSITY WINTER CHALLENGES If any children have completed these challenges for Children s University over the holidays please make sure you hand all the evidence in to the office along with their passport so they can collect their hours. CLUB SIGNUP The golden ticket sign up went live this morning. All golden ticket children have priority sign up until tomorrow morning. Please note the sign up for all other children will go live tomorrow morning (Wednesday) at 7.30am. A few key points are: - ALL sign up needs to be done through ParentPay. Once a club is full it will disappear from ParentPay Clubs cost 5 per club per term If the club is FREE sign up still needs to be done on ParentPay Each child can attend a maximum of 3 clubs. Any clubs they have been personally chosen / selected to attend do not count in the 3. If there are any spaces after 3pm on Thursday 17 January you can sign your child up for additional ones then. You MUST indicate on PARENTPAY if you want your child to walk home from the clubs. This is only for those in Year 4 and above. Make sure you sign your child up to clubs for their year group. The year groups are clearly stated on each club title If you cannot find a club you are looking for this will probably mean that is it already full. The system may be slower if everyone is trying to access one club at the same time, please keep trying much the same as Ticketmaster! Please bear with us if any problems do arise as these will be addressed if and when they occur. Details of all the clubs available and further information can be found in the booklet on the website or through the app. If you do have any questions at all please do not hesitate to contact Sara Burton on or speak to the office. We understand there are a lot of changes so please do ask straight away if you have any queries. CLUBS Please note all school clubs start next week (week commencing 21 January) and finish week ending 29 March. All children will receive a confirmation letter this week to show what they have been signed up for. If you have any questions please contact Sara Burton on

6 CREDIT UNION This is a non-profit organisation controlled by its own members and offers great rates of interest and low cost loans. A member of Credit Union is in school every Friday morning from 8.30am 8.50am for anyone who wants to open an account and of course for existing members. Application forms are available to collect from the main office. ESOL CLASSES We are running ESOL classes in school on Monday afternoons, from 1.00pm-3.00pm, where you can learn English, improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. However we do require a minimum of 6 parents for them to take place. Please inform Mrs Ghiwala if you are interested. 100 BOOKS READING CHALLENGE If you would like to sign up for the 100 books reading challenge, registration forms are available from Mr Desai in the school library from Tuesday to Friday. Please note the library is open to specific year groups on certain days from 3.15pm pm Tuesday Reception classes Wednesday Year 1 classes Thursday Year 2 classes Friday Reception Year 6 The library is also open to Years 3-6 during Golden Time (Friday 11.30pm 12.45pm). PARK AND STRIDE We will be continuing with our Park and Stride on Friday mornings from 8.25am 8.35am at Sacred Heart Church car park entrance on Preston New Road. Please register with Mrs Ghiwala in the school office by Thursday afternoon. Thank you. STORY TIME, RHYME TIME Reception parents are invited to attend Story time with their children on Wednesday afternoons at 2.45pm and Rhyme time on Monday afternoons at 2.45pm.
