2 Ali was born in Turkey and had his early education in his native country. He had a solemn inclination to choose medicine as profession. He was offered a place at the local medical school. Nonetheless, with a view of broadening his prospect and experience, he decided to study in Pakistan. It was a matter of chance that he joined the batch of 79 at Dow. Ali was an elegant man with a whitish complexion and jet-black, lush moustache. He was secluded from the classmates for quite some time because he could communicate in Turkish only.

3 Maestro Khusrau had a way with his magical words to portray that situation: My beloved speaks Turkish, and Turkish I do not know; How I wish if her tongue would have been in my mouth. Once tuned to the mood and vibes of Dow, Ali soon realized that to make the best of what he is offered he has to learn to speak like a local, eat like a local and think like a local. With this is view Ali started to learn English and Urdu. He started making friendsand developed a taste for cuisinesof Pakistan.

4 Nihary and Chicken Tikka soon became hisfavorite foods. He neverlooked back! After graduation Ali returned to Turkey and joined the army to complete two year of mandatory army service. During this time he met Gunale, who later became his life companion. Ali then moved to his ancestral town of Alanya where he completed hissurgical post-graduate training.

5 He was offered a position of surgeon and faculty in a teaching hospital in the city of Antalya. As of today he is the Head of Surgery in a private hospital in Antalya. Ali and his family's main accommodation is a large flat over looking the majestic and eye-soothing Mediterranean Sea. They also have a second house up in the hills on the outskirt of Antalya. They use this dwelling as summer and weekend residence.

6 Gunale is a teacher, a culinary expert and a proud mother of three lovely young men, on the road to promising futures. Ali and Gunale live a very straightforward life, free from pretentious outlooks. They grow their own vegetables and most of the fruit at their 'hill side house'.

7 Every week they fetch fresh drinking water from a natural spring. Turkish society is very family oriented. Ali and Gunale are well incorporated in the fabrics of society and are a very hospitable couple to their wide range of friends and acquaintances. The batch of 79 will gather in their town in September 2011 to personally experience a few days of their hospitality.

13 PERSONALITY UPLOADED ON 16 TH APR 2011 THANKS SHOAIB FOR ALI YAGCI I N1987 ON MY WAY BACK TO KARACHI I DECIDED TO GIVE A SURPRIZE TO ALI - I DIDNT INFORM HIM THAT I AM COMING - I BOUGHT A TICKET BY TURKISH AIRWAYS WITH A 7DAYS BREAK AT TURKEY I LEFT MY LUGGAGE AT ISTAMBUL AIR PORT AND A TOOK A BUS TO DEYAR-E-BAKER A CITY FAR FROM ISTAMBUL---LOOK AT MAP - AFTER 14 HOURS OF DRIVE I REACHED HOSPITAL WHERE HE WAS SUPPOSEDLY WORKING AND I WAS TOLD BY A DOCTOR THAT LAST WEEK HE WAS TRANSFERRD TO SIND KULL HOSPITAL---SINDKULL A SMALL CITY 52 MILES FROM AFYON-----LOOK AT MAP PROVIDED BY REHMAN KHAN. IT WAS GOOD OPPERTUNITY TO SEE DEYAR-E- BAKER.I SPENT SIX HOURS THERE WENT TO A BARBER SHOP FOR SHAVING - HAD A BTHA AT A HAMMAM - ATE FISH AND SOME TRADITION TYPE OF FOOD AT FOOT PATH - TRIED TO COMMUNICATE PEOPLE IN MY ENGLISH IT WAS EASY THEY ALL LOVE PAKISTANIS - TOOK ANOTHER BUS FOR ANOTHER 8 HOURS DRIVE TO AFYON TRAVELLING ALONG THE TURKEY THROUGH KOH--E -- QAFF - REMEMBRING THE PREES OF KOH--E -- QAFF AND REACHED AFYON IN THE EVENING - CAUGHT A TAXI AND REACH SINDKULL CITY IT WAS VERY COLD,WINDY AND I WAS TOO TIERD - TAXI DRIVER TOOK ME TO CITYS ONLY O P E R A T O Rs SURGEONS ARE CALLED OPERATOR THERE---- HOUSE ALI COULDNT BELIEVE THAT I CAN BE THERE HE WAS STUNT AND WAS NOT ABLE TO SAY ANY THING FOR FEW SECONDS - I HAD GREAT TIME WITH THEM A GREAT HOT SHOWER - FRESHLY MADE HOT SOUP BY HIS WIFE - FANTASTIC TURKISH DINNER WITH TRADITONAL FOOD - I ACNT FORGET THE TASTE OF CHEESE THEY SERVED - HE WAS ON CALL THAT NIGHT I WNET WITH HIM TO HIS HOSPITAL AND SAW HIM IN ACTION - NEXT DAY I TOOK OFF FOR FEW DAYS - WE WENT TO ALANYA MET HIS FATHER ---WHO GAVE ME THRE PLANTS OF OLIVE WHICH DID NOT SURVIVE IN KARACHI----EVEN THE SOIL IS NOT FIT FOR PEACE - HAD A DAWAT IN HIS SISERS HOUSE - HAD FANTASTIC TIME WITH HIM AND HE DROPPED ME AT ISTAMBOOL AIRPORT AFTER HAVING A GREAT SEA FOOD LUNCH AT BASSFORES SEA - FEW DAYS I WILL NEVER FORGET - ALI IS A GREAT GUY WRM FROM CORE TO CORE CARING FROM START TO END - FUN FROM AL L ASPECTS WE ALL WILL SEE YOU AND YOUR LOVELY WIFE AGAIN - AND WILL HAVE GREAT FUN THERE - WE WERE LUCKEY TO HAVE YOU IN OUR CLAS A L I Y A G C I L U V UUUUU BOSS Shershah

15 PERSONALITY UPLOADED ON 16 TH APR 2011 Thank you, Shoaib, for posting Ali Yagci this week. As the write up points out, he was very quiet and aloof the first couple of years. I knew of him, just 'hello-hi' kind of relationship. During clinical years Ali started hanging out with Shershah, it was downhill from that point on. Birds of same feather flock together, we got closer to him and found out he is a really nice, warm, loving person who loved to enjoy life. It was fun to be with him. He picked up English faster than Urdu...except Urdu expletives, which he used appropriately in his broken English delivery which was cute. Last time I met him, his English was fluent and not many Urdu expletives, an influence perhaps being a surgical consultant at US base in Turkey. He started me on something that has become a staple in my family to this date. Everytime Ali would come back to college from Turkey, he would bring a good supply of olives, goat cheese, and bread...which he happily shared with us, to this date we enjoy the perfect combination of this simple yet healthy food at our home. Living in the hostel, we got to spend some wonderful time together. All I can say is Pink Floyd's albums sounded a whole heck of a lot better in his company. Thanks, Ali, for all the nice memories of the wonderful times we had. It was wonderful to have seen you after such a long time in Newquay, UK, and I am looking forward to seeing you and your family this fall. I can't wait... 16 PERSONALITY UPLOADED ON 16 TH APR 2011 FOLKS I met Ali in Hostel #4 Looking for Alcohol and Cigarettes and women of course Ali needed transport to get around looking for these 3 most important things in life Soon we traveled all the interesting places in Karachi on my Honda 70 cc We had no taste We would eat and smoke and Drink anything we could afford Dirty chicken Tika was the favourite of me and Tariq Butt Shershah introduced us to Nihari and life was complete when Babar took us to inner circles of NSF and Afzal Khanna drove us to hidden oases of Alcohol We speak to each other at least once a week His message on my answering machine is as simple as Ali is YOUNUS ---- THIS IS ALI IF YOU COME EARLY CALL ME ---- OTHERWISE ---- DON'T CALL ME BYE BYE yr Shoaib: Thank you for posting. Ali: I know you probably are not going to read this, but I am sure either AZB or YAR will convey the gist of the postings from here. I would like to say many things but will keep them till we see you in September.
