3 Dear Gurudev, Happy anniversary of Your Divine Appearance Day! I offer my respectful obeisances unto Your Lotus Feet! I started to write to You for the occasion of Your Birthday and I became embarrassed, not knowing what to wish You. I deeply wish to meet You and thrown myself down in front of You with sincere humbleness, offering my life sincerely. However in my everyday life, I feel myself very far from this realization. This occasion helped me to understand what my Siksa Guru, Aninda Sundar Krishna Prabhu preached us several times: The distance is big between India and Hungary but only in a geographical aspect. So do not feel very far from you! I pray for faith in You and Krishna, and also for making connection with You. Many thanks for Your guidance and the opportunity to serve and associate with Your devotees. I pray that You will show us the right way in good health forevermore. 4 Dear Govinda Maharaja! For your birthday, I should like to send you all my best wishes and love. I hope my letter finds you in good health. I should like to thank you for your help. I feel your blessings every day. An other year has passed, and many things have happend during this year. I think one of the most important developements is this: the devotees love each other with true affection, and there are a lot of strong friendships among them. In addition to our busy daily routines, we used to meet severel times a week, and organize spiritual meetings to develop our love for Lord Krishna. It is a very good feeling to read about Him and sing and dance for His glory. Here, in Szeged, Ravindra Krishna Prabhu leads our meetings. We thank him for our spiritual development. Aninda Sundar Krishna and Madhava Daita Devi also visit and they do so much for us. We are together in the summer and the winter for spiritual camps and on the holidays, of course. There was a real feast for Radha- Krishna murti, and I am especially happy to worship Gaura-Nitai at my home daily. Nowadays I work at home, so I am in peace. I should like to develop by chanting japa, but I have some difficulties with it. That makes me sad because I know it is the most important thing for me. Dear Govinda Maharaja! Please, help me overcome my mind and reach true devotion! I should like to escape from Maya's claws! 5 Dear Beloved Gurudeva, I offer my respectful devotion to you, my beloved Gurudeva. In March 2OO2, I gained Lord Krishna s grace because I became your disciple, so I was reborn as Golokapati. Since then my whole life has changed. I get up at five o clock in the morning and chant the Maha Mantra. Along with my mother I serve Gaura-Nitai in our home. The devotees are my best friends. Unfortunately I do not have any friends my age to share my spiritual experiences with, so I decided to start a newspaper at my school. I am writing the third edition of it. It consists of Vedic tales, a column on Ahimsa, and I think it s important to talk about the healthy way of living to my schoolmates who often go to Mc Donald s. I feel it is the greatest gift of my life to be your disciple. At the age of eleven and I know I will not be able to return your grace, but I would like to offer my respectful gratitude to you, dear Gurudeva. By your grace my son took initiation in March and our whole life has changed. We strengthen each other; we chant the Maha mantra together, and we do yoga and serve our Gaura-Nitai deities everyday. I feel ashamed that my son is more enthusiastic in servingthan I am. The devotees are our main shelter. We often meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays at my house. We sing bhajans, listen to lectures and enjoy talking about the Supreme Lord. We should be lost without this association. 7 Dear Gurudeva, Please accept my humble obeisance. I became your disciple almost two years ago. Since then, my life has accelerated, and everything has been changing. My spiritual service has become more important than philosophy. I have to maintain my secular duties along with my spiritual efforts. I am having many hardships attaining these objectives, and I only hope my difficulties will purify me. The devotees' company is my real shelter. Regular programs in Szeged provide an oasis, and programs at the Mandala-Véda Ashram fill my life with more spiritual happiness. Sometimes I can feel a taste of devotion when I organize Aninda Sundar and Ravindra Krishna's lectures, when I lead bhajans, and when I serve the devotees. Unfortunately because I am so far away, I have to be without your direct advice, but Aninda Sundar Prabhu is always is with us when we need practical and spiritual advice. Dear Gurudev! I can't comprehend the grace that was given to me by you, please allow me to fall at your feet with the most humility. 8 I offer my humble respects to my spiritual master Sri Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Gosvami Maharaja with love on the occasion of the day of his appearance. I have no hope if the truth is valid. According to my merits I cannot expect much good. I shall disappear from this level, because I can only rely on the institute of mercy, where they do not consider good or bad, sin or virtue. I came here my lord, because I do not know what resides in me. If I analyse and study my heart, I realise that I am a stranger to myself. I am so hopeless and miserable, that I do not even know my own self. How could I dare to appeal to a forum, where I could only hope for something after the consideration of my virtues and sins. I do not want that. I do not want any decision based on truth. I yield before you! You can do what you want with me! I am the worst of the sinners. My destiny is in your hands. I have come to you! Although I cannot come to your lotus feet directly, I offer my most sincere reverences on this auspicious day. By your merciful desire I have received Harinam initiation through Srimati Rohini Shakti didi. By your influence, I try to chant the Holy Name correctly. I know that even from a large distance, your most auspicious inspiration reaches me and transforms that practice which still is an austerity for my mind into a most joyful engagement by which, after cleansing my materially contaminated soul, I shall develop the sincere desire to serve Our Supreme Lord with all my effort. Now somebody could say this fallen soul has not even met his Gurudev yet. But how can somebody not be inspired by a father whose innumerous sons and daughters have nothing to talk about but the true and endless love that he demonstrates for all of them. 10 My Dear Gurudeva! Initiation establishes our connection with the Absolute Truth. An inner awakening begins, which leads us to Krishna Consciousness. You give generously the most valuable treasure, which is the joy of transcendental service. Dear Srila Govinda Maharaj, On this most auspicious day we commemorate your appearance in our lives. I place myself in the dust of your lotus feet. When I look inside my tiny self, I see only one good qualification: that destiny has brought me to the shade of your sacred feet, which have never touched the surface of this material existence. I humbly pray that you may allow me to constantly serve your Sacred Divine Mission and interests in this world and that, just as Lord Brahma forced Lord Indra to leave his pig's body, that you may take me forcefully from this pigish Consciousness of mine and restate me in my original constitutional position of being the servant of the servant of your servant in your unalloyed service to Srila Guru Maharaj. You know everything that is going on in the hearts of your servants and followers, so you know what is sincere and what is false in us. 13 om ajnana-timirandhasya jnananjana-salakaya caksur unmilitam yena tasmai sri-gurave namaha Virtuous souls, talented and sincere devotees can sing your glories in a brilliant way. In my attempt to glorify you I feel like an elf wishing to reach the moon. Even though I don't have any capacity, for my own benefit and purification I will take advantage of this opportunity on your holy Vyasa Puja. You have mastery over the knowledge of the Vedas, both conceivable and inconceivable. You are the treasurer of bona fide conclusions, which can destroy all doubt. In front of such personality who posseses unlimited qualities, my perplexed mind becomes speechless, and my heart that has been blooming in divine ecstasy by his sweetest association starts dancing before such opportunity. Srila Govinda Maharaj has a powerful intelligence beyond the understanding of ordinary man. He is greatly merciful upon the fallen souls who attain the ultimate fortune by accepting his lotus feet. His Divine Grace has the power and has firmly established the lotus feet of Sri Gauranga in the hearts of his dear devotees. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the most generous and compassionate incarnation of the Lord, has incarnated in the form of the Guru, and when we combine his kindness, affection, and charm, he becomes Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaja. We feel very fortunate to have this kind of Guru who is the personification of "Trinad api sunicena." He is humble and tolerant, and even a tree is shamed by his magnanimity and tolerance. He amazingly honors his disciples and always keeps their minds out of trouble by occupying them in service according to their capacity. He is continually willing to satisfy his disciples' wishes. He is like a wish-fulfilling tree to his surrendered servitors and fulfills their heart's aspiration. Worshiping the Lord can have no meaning if one disregards Srila Govinda Maharaja. I know that it is difficult to live in this material world, but I know in my heart that You are always with me, and I never want to forget that. I want so much to be able to serve you in any way that I can, and I beg for that opportunity. As you are endowed with the mercy of Mahaprahu, we have seen souls come from every town and village to surrender at your lotus feet. It is as if the heart of the world is melting into the ocean of mercy that you have provided for us. However, I am such a rascal that I have managed to evade full surrender. I am ashamed and feel unworthy to stand among so many great vaisnavas who are fully surrendered to your lotus feet. On your order they are saving the world by spreading the rays of the benediction moon that is the mercy of your divine self. I pray that my stone-like heart will melt and that I will also become an instrument of your will. Then the world can attest that your mercy is of such a divine nature that even the lowest person can be transformed into a vaisnava devotee of the lord by your grace. 16 All glories to Srila Bhakti Sundara Govinda Dev- Goswami Maharaj, who is freely distributing connection with the highest conception of Mahaprabhu and his service as taught in the Sri Caitanya Saraswat Math. Mahaprabhu presented himself as a mere grammar student before the Digvijaya Pandit, whose false pride he later dismantled. Similarly, Srila Govinda Maharaja presents himself as a simple village boy before those who consider themselves scholarly and then demonstrates his superior erudition and likewise dismantles their false pride and offers them the nectar of his service. On his Vyasa Puja day I pray that he'll let me stay and draw me into the line of Thakur Bhaktivinoda, Gaura Kisora Babji, Srila Saraswati Thakura, Srila Sridhara Maharaja, Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, and his own divine self and not allow me to slip back to the peleton of Merckx, Lemond, Indurain and Armstrong. Some bright opportunity for living came into my heart from the time You allowed me to have some attention for Your absolute sweetness. I was so completely astonished the first time I heard Your Kirtan at Sri Govinda Dham. That sound was coming from a place so much higher than I could ever imagine existed. No one else can deliver Mahaprabhu s Kirtan and give such perfect advice for our benefit as You. I am trying with my family to use our strength that comes from Your affection and example to do something useful that will be pleasing for You. By Your mercy we will develop an ashram at the Channon property where grhastas can live, in Your and Srila Sridhar Maharaj s honour. Nothing we do will be fit to represent the dignified and exalted position of You and Your Guru Maharaj, but in my own very pathetic way I promise that in this lifetime I will really try for that. Please pull me and the people who are my children in this lifetime away from the idea of being servants to a plane of real surrender and devotion. Allow me to go deeper in my chanting of the Maha Mantra and Gayatri. Every spiritual step forward is by Your grace. Have a happy Vyasa Puja day! On this day Your Divine Grace descended to this material world to rescue all the fallen conditioned souls, such as myself. Gurudeva, out of Your Divine Grace's causeless mercy, You rescued me from the dense fog of nescience and bestowed on me the most rare and precious gift of Your Eternal Grace. I pray to Your Divine Grace that Your Lotus Feet remain eternally situated in this lowly wretch's heart and may I never lose touch with Your Divine Mercy that You so graciously bestowed upon me. Oh Gurudeva, only You in this world can bestow Pure Love unto Sri Gaurangadev-Sri Sri Radha-Govinda and take all the jivas from the lowest to the highest existence. The whole world is singing Your Glories through Mahaprabhu Sri Caitanyadev's Mahasankirtan. Gurudeva, there is no end to Your Glories. This poor, tiny, wretched jiva prays for Your Mercy. 19 All Glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga We forget marvelous Krishna for many years, practicing and seeing only minor wonders in our seva, so we conclude that Krishna is very high and far from us. But recently it seems that the seal is beginning to break and wonderful things are happening. This is all by your infinite grace and your merciful glance upon us. We are fighting to adjust things here, and we feel that help is coming from above. We know we have a lot of challenges in front of us that we have to overcome, and we are working to surrender to your direction. We want to celebrate this coming Vyasa Puja of your divine appearance day with the most heartfelt appreciation of our sadhu-vaisnava association. We offer you the strongest gratitude and continuous obedience. We prostrate our heads totally to your will. Long life and fine glories to our divine master, the incomparable Srila Bhakti Sundara Govinda Dev Goswami Maharaj. You are a brilliant source of pure devotion and Divine Love to Sri-Sri Radha- Madhava and Sri-Sri Gaura-Nitai. Our situation is so insignificant in this world that it s difficult to understand and acknowledge the benefit, happiness, and fortune, which You spill upon us. Without your affectionate protection we would lose the fantastic opportunity to serve You, the Divine Couple and the Vaisnavas. The great satisfaction of our service comes from the depths of our hearts, thanks to Your mercy. You are our eternal Master. You are representing a unique example of service to Gurudev, Sri Guru-varga, Vaisnavas, Sri-Sri Gaura-Nitay and Sri-Sri Radha-Krishna. Your preaching destroys the ice of doubt and the stone of conditionality. Being possessed with transcendental knowledge, You give to us the deepest conclusions of Vedanta with simple and understandable language. The sweetest association with You is nectar for us in this mortal world. We believe that You are non-different from the Supreme Lord, but at the same time, You are His nearest associate.
