EXECUTIVE REPORT NATIONAL CHAIRMAN Our Movement here in Australia and overseas is not just in a healthy state, but is poised for significant expansion, and this has become more obvious to me over the past twelve months. Our International Leaders Gathering, the week after our National Conference, is becoming a most important event for the key leaders from each of the nations where the CRC is organised or has a presence. It is so heartening to see the sense of unity of purpose, and real comradeship developing as we progress towards the outworking of our visionary faith goal of having an ongoing CRC ministry presence in every nation of the world by our centenary as a Movement (2045). In June, it was my privilege to minister in Athens, Greece and Bucharest, Romania. There could be some great possibilities in us partnering with some new movements to reach Greeks and Romanians for Jesus and to help plant churches in these European nations. In August I ministered in Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa and Zimbabwe and it s just mind boggling to see the explosion of apostolic evangelism and church planting taking place. I was greatly impacted by their new movements and learned so much. Our Movement here in Australia and overseas is not just in a healthy state, but is poised for significant expansion What a joy it was for us to dedicate the Colombo church facilities project (in Sri Lanka 30th March 2017). This was a significant achievement for us here in Australia to partner with Colombo to establish this nation-building project that will be a strategic base for the whole Indian sub-continent. A big thank you to the many churches that have given and are continuing to give. We had to borrow from our Generations Fund in SA and Victoria to complete the project which has saved a huge amount of money due to escalating building costs. These funds have to be repaid, and we are keen for other CRC churches to join with us, so we can cover these loans by Visiting our State Conferences earlier in the year has reinforced to me the strong desire for apostolic evangelism and church planting that is building across our Movement. This is reflected in the fifteen churches we have planted since the start of Ps Phil Cayzer is championing church planting to be reawakened within all of our churches across Australia, and he also has a huge heart to promote church schools as a vehicle by which churches can deeply impact their communities. As Australia is rapidly secularising, the need for Biblicallybased and Child-centred Christian schools 4

... NATIONAL CHAIRMAN is becoming more evident. Four of our large CRC churches have schools and it is my prayer that this will more than double to at least ten over the next few years. As I shared in my message at last year s conference, if all of our churches could be directly involved in planting a daughter church over the next four years, and then repeating that in another five years, i.e. by 2025, we could more than double our Movement here in Australia. Linked with this, is our ministry training strategy. I am so encouraged that this year we have nearly sixty students involved in our Diploma in Theology and Ministry. Ps Chris Carmody and his team are trailblazers. Many of these students are doing the course full-time in one year, with some others studying part time. FEE HELP for eligible students has been a blessing to our Movement, and I encourage every church to avail themselves of this opportunity, as even in our smallest churches, it is possible to have a full-time intern doing this program over a twelve month period. Ministry training is the engine room of our Movement to develop our church planters, lead pastors, associate pastors, and missionaries of the future. I want to encourage every lead pastor who receives our National Executive minutes from our three gatherings each year to disseminate them to their Board of Elders. Please talk with your Church Governance Teams about the important issues that affect all churches and ministers. This builds cohesiveness and will help align your Senior Governance Team with where the CRC is heading in Australia and across the globe. Peter Gillard, our National Administrator, has been such a gift to help us and our churches keep up to speed with the changing world that we live in, especially with the increasing requirements of government regulations. My Executive Assistant, Kassie Pidd, finished up last November. This role has now been taken up by Esther Lane; after a six month interim with Ps Nathan Bettcher, who helped bridge the gap. I am sure you will love Esther as you do Peter in the important role of providing administrative support to our Movement. Without this assistance, I would not be free to focus on the leadership and visionary aspects of my role. In closing, I want to thank all of our National Executive team and the ministry teams they oversee; including all of our State Executives. It is just terrific to see the breadth and depth of the teams serving the best interests of our Movement across Australia and the world. It has been a joy to have Ps Dan Parker join the National Executive team as our new VIC/TAS State Chairman and it was terrific to see the way Ps Bruce Sharman was honoured after so capably leading the State for many years. Ps Bruce continues as our National Vice-Chairman and his leadership and ministry remains deeply appreciated, not just in his home state, but across our nation and internationally due to his huge heart for our world. Pastor Bill Vasilakis National Chairman Ministry training is the engine room of our Movement to develop our church planters, lead pastors, pastors, and missionaries of the future 5

It was great to honour Ps Les Paulson who turned ninety this year and still continues to engage actively in ministry, such as preaching and taking funerals. STATE REPORT SA / NT / WA The last year has been a positive year for our Movement in SA, NT and WA, with great unity and momentum being sustained across our churches. A new State Executive Team was endorsed at this year s conference, with some significant changes occurring. We welcome the new members in Ps Josh Poyzer as the new Vice-Chairman, Ps Cass Tompich and Ps David Bland. Ps Paul Kidney, Ps Kev Hall, Ps Fiona Voortman and Ps Greg Crome, continue on as existing members. Thank you as well to Ps David Washington who remains as our invaluable State Secretary. We acknowledge Ps Josh O Callaghan and Ps Joe Habermehl for their roles on the State Executive. Both needed to decline further involvement at this time due to the demands of growing churches. The challenge of Discipleship in today s culture was addressed at this year s Empowered State Conference, which was held at Christian Family Centre Murray Bridge. Addressing the theme of Clear, Confident, Call was the guest speaker, Ps Mark Lassey from Perth Kingdomcity Church. At conference it was wonderful to honour a number of ministers for significant ministry milestones. Many thanks to Ps Nathan Bettcher, who oversees Training; Ps Kevin Hall as State Youth Coordinator; Sarah Wilson in her State Children s Coordinator role; and to Ps John Poyzer and Ps Mike Russell who gave support to the regions of our State this last year along with Ps Greg Crome taking a special interest in our Western Australian churches. Thanks also to Ps Allan Cleanthous as our State Coach for facilitating ministers competency processes, who with our State Secretary Ps David Washington arranges credentialing interviews. The Credentialing Team is Ps David Smythe, Ps Allan Cleanthous, Ps Jenny Furniss, Ps Fiona Voortman and myself. At the State Conference 12 people were credentialed. The SA CRC Futures Scholarship/ Fellowship initiative is now in place, with its aim to bring encouragement and direction to applicant pastors by accelerating their growth and development. Two fellowships were granted for Ps Kevin Hodges to attend a conference in the USA and Ps Nathan Bettcher to attend and present at a conference at Oxford University in the UK. Both men are eager to share and resource our Movement on their return. It remains my privilege to represent our States on the National Executive. Thank you to all of you for helping create such a sense of solidarity and appreciation for each other across our SA, WA and NT State Council. May the Lord strengthen and encourage our fellowship as we build the community of faith that is the CRC family in our states. It is a joy serving Jesus with you! Pastor Hans Voortman State Chairman 6

STATE REPORT NSW / ACT / QLD What a privilege it is for me to write the report this year for NSW/ACT/QLD. Ps Trevor Murphy is taking a long-service sabbatical for 12 months, which will give him the opportunity to help his parents on the family farm. Trevor is an amazing asset to our fellowship and we are thrilled to release him from his State Chairman responsibilities for this time. In the interim, as State Vice-Chairman, I have stepped into the Acting Chairman role to serve our churches in God s best part of Australia, the east coast and our nation s capital. This year we gathered together in our biennial Pastors & Spouses Retreat. We all got together for a time of inspiration and relaxation in the glorious seaside destination of Nelson Bay, hosted by our church there under Bill Brill s leadership. A significant outcome of last year s Constitution update is that we have now elected two new members who hold State Credentials onto our Executive Ps Francesca Liu (Novalife Church in Homebush, Sydney) and Ps Caroline Dennis (Lifeway Church in Port Macquarie). Already this has strengthened our team and State directions. Ps Rodney Bortolin (Lifesource Church in Griffith) has taken We love being CRC together, cheering each other on, celebrating each other s wins, helping each other out, guiding and nurturing on the role of State Secretary, ably assisted by Jan Bollington. Ps Ralph Martin (Centre Life in Condobolin) brings his steadying influence to our team along with overseeing the very important area of credentialing. Our Regional fellowships (Sydney Region, Riverina Region, Central Coast Region) help provide added relational benefits to our pastors and churches. We are welcoming Grace Church Shellharbour City into our CRC family. Ps Angie and Eugene Martinez who lead the work there are a great blessing to us all. Every year our Condo Youth Camp and Emerging Leaders Gatherings bring a great sense of cohesion and family to our young people and future leaders. There is so much energy amongst our youth and young adults and it is exciting to consider the future under their leadership as it blossoms to maturity. Thanks especially to Jodie Elliott (Condo and Emerging Leaders Regional) and Ps Josh Wengi (Emerging Leaders Metropolitan). Right across our churches, there is a good sense of family and relationship. We love being CRC together, cheering each other on, celebrating each other s wins, helping each other out, guiding and nurturing. It is the best of what the Kingdom is about. By this will all men know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. (Jesus). Pastor Ian Miller Acting State Chairman 7

STATE REPORT VIC / TAS In the past year, it has been good to see God positioning leaders and the launching of new churches. The major change at senior State level was the handover of the Chairman s position from Pr Bruce Sharman to myself at the State Conference. We thank Bruce and his wife Margaret for their massive investment in the State and for the grace and strength they brought to the leadership of Victoria. Bruce led our state for fourteen years. They handover the reins of a healthy scene with goodwill and unity among the churches and leaders. The visionary management of the finances has created a strong fiscal position for the Movement. There have been four new church plants in the suburbs of Frankston, Thornbury and re-establishing of outreaches in Pakenham and Lilydale. Some of the launch teams are made up of people from former CRC churches. There has been the resurgence of the church in Wyndham under the leadership of Prs Roland and Ruth Tankard. Urbanlife has a new Lead Pastor Ps Scott Hawkins and Portland has purchased the local cinema in the heart of the town and is developing a great community hub and ministry centre. There is new life in our churches in many different areas of our States. We have had that injection of passion for reaching people. We will continue to hold that value and will now add to this the leading of a growing healthy church The training of new pastors and leaders within VIC/TAS is increasing and is exciting to see. There are some quality people coming through our CRC Training regime. We have been focusing on raising the value of Empowered Evangelism through our Courageous conferences. When you bring in evangelists, you take a chance on passion overtaking policy. However what you do is bring an impartation of faith and hunger for lost people. We have had that injection of passion for reaching people. We will continue to hold that value and will now add to this the leading of a growing healthy church. I m looking forward to leading the State for the next period of time and building on what Bruce has established. I have many things on my heart to see happen going forward and am excited about what we can achieve together for Christ. I see what we call the generations being our focus for the period of my tenure, with strengthening the children s, youth and young adults ministries being our major focus of attention. I look forward to working with local pastors and the VIC/TAS executive to build strength and resources in this area. Pastor Dan Parker State Chairman 8

MISSIONS REPORT INTERNATIONAL I am always amazed at the workings of God in the midst of adversity such as war, drought and disasters. He has been at work redeeming and saving people throughout such events. Over the past few years I have been aware of God in His workings within the hearts of young people and in several nations that I visit. There were small signs and indications of this quiet work of God taking place in the lives of youth. But now it is clearly evident that there is a definite ground swell of passion and purpose for meaningful expression by a younger generation of persons. The Lord has done this, and it is marvellous in our eyes (Psalms 118:23 NIV). It is our call to recognise and facilitate what God is doing amongst these people. God is preparing for something up ahead. Let us be ready. It is an arising from within us and all around us. Over the last 12 to 18 months I have been amazed at the increasing numbers of young people with the desire to serve God in some practical and purposeful way. The attendance at our Emerging Leaders and Mentoring Schools which we host in several developing nations has to be... the increasing numbers of young people with the desire to serve God in some practical and purposeful way limited because there are more desiring to attend than we can effectively cater for. In one nation where we regularly conduct a live-in Evangelism and Discipleship school every three months, 38 students arrived where we would normally have around the 20 in attendance. These are people from tribal backgrounds and minority groups, and we had to turn away another 50 waiting to attend until the next school. God said it before to his people and I am convinced that He is saying it again at this time. He is stirring people. Your people will offer themselves willingly in the day of Your power, in the beauty of holiness and in holy array out of the womb of the morning; to You [will spring forth] Your young men, who are as the dew. (Psalms 110:3 AMP) I so want to be a part of helping and promoting these young men and women to emerge into all that God has for them to be and to do. Finally, I need to say that personally I am aware of promptings and continued stirrings in my heart that God is at work in the lives of Australian young men and women. Let us schedule and position ourselves to maximise on what God is doing in the stirring of the hearts of this younger generation. We are definitely on the verge of God unveiling what He has been secretly and quietly working on for some time. How exciting and adventurous is our future as a CRC family. Pastor Barry Silverback International Missions Director 9

MISSIONS REPORT NATIONAL The International Vision of an ongoing presence in every nation by 2045 continues to drive and focus CRC Missions. This year we have seen the completion of the building project for the CRC Churches International Inc., Colombo. The Colombo Project has been a long-term project supported by many churches in Australia. They now have a magnificent facility in an excellent location in Colombo. Ps Neil Milne has done an excellent job in coordinating the project for us. Thank you very much Neil. Although this stage of the building has been completed, we still need to raise about $190,000 over commitments already made to pay for the loans on the building. It has been recently announced after a process of prayer and discussion that Ps Warrick and Omega Hughes and their family will move to Walhalla, USA to take up the leadership of the church there. It is now over a year since Ps Graeme and Moya Enright returned to Australia after leading the Walhalla church for the previous 4-5 years. Warrick has been a missionary from New Zealand in PNG for many years. Now with his Papua New Guinean wife they will lead this important work in Walhalla. In April this year Leona and Wally Grant moved from Swan Hill, Victoria to Port Moresby where Leona has taken up the important role of Finance Administrator at Bethel Centre. Wally is working on many of the practical areas of ministry that are greatly needed at Bethel Centre. This year at our CRC Global Conference we have for the first time leaders from Brazil, Bolivia, Cambodia, Tanzania, and possibly Poland joining with us. As the Movement continues to expand into other nations not everyone we reach will be confident in speaking English. This year at our Global Conference and International Leaders Gathering we will have leaders from Bolivia and Brazil who do not speak English, and from Cambodia with limited English. This is a challenging but exciting step forward breaking further barriers to fulfilling our International Vision. The International Vision of an ongoing presence in every nation by 2045 continues to drive and focus CRC Missions 10

... NATIONAL MISSIONS This is a challenging but exciting step forward breaking further barriers to fulfilling our International Vision In the week following the Conference we are holding our International Leaders Gathering. This is now a group of 50 plus CRC leaders in the various nations, plus Australian Pastors who are actively involved in Global Mission. This 2-day gathering provides connection between our leaders across the globe, significant prayer times, and opportunity to consider topics relevant to us all in successful global mission. In our missions policies we have made further clarification this year on the granting of credentials to Pastors outside of Australia. Australian citizens, wherever they are, may on the completion of the appropriate competencies, be granted Australian credentials at the appropriate ministry level. They will remain accountable to the Australian National Executive. Non-Australian residents in countries where a National CRC Movement has not yet been formally recognised may be granted a Minister [Country name] credential issued from Australia or from whichever existing CRC nation is opening up the new field. When a national CRC Movement has been established in a country then that National Movement will issue the appropriate credential according to their constitution for those ministering in their country. This year we have issued new credentials overseas to: Minister Canada David Branscombe Minister Canada Judith Branscombe Minister Bolivia Wilfredo Calle Flores Minister Brazil Livia Abreu Chugas Thank you very much to everyone who has supported the ministry of CRC Missions International over the past year. My special thanks to Kelly Groom who does an excellent job managing our finances, as well as to Mikaela Groom who is the Editor of Pulse Magazine, and Rachel D Sa who is my part-time PA. Also thank you to the Australian International Missions Team (AIMT) members who continue to contribute their wisdom, vision and energies into CRC Missions. The team consists of myself, Ps Neil Milne, Ps Bruce Sharman, Ps Barry Silverback, Ps Bill Vasilakis, Ps Jeremy Steel, Ps David Manning, and newly joined Ps Norma Cayzer, together with Ps Ai Wari from PNG as an active observer. Ps Mike Cronin Australian Missions Director 11

STRATEGIC REPORT STRATEGIC As we near the end of the CRC Strategic Directions timeline, it is a good time to take stock of what we ve achieved over this 5 year frame. SPIRIT-POWERED EVANGELISM One measure of the effectiveness of evangelism strategies is an increase in the overall number of people in CRC churches across Australia. We give thanks to God for a 6% increase in this number in the last 12 months. To support churches and individuals with training for evangelism, Pr Ian Miller and his team at Community Church Hornsby have produced a series of short videos which are available on the CRC website for free use. DEVELOPING CHURCHES The churches involved in the National Church Life Survey towards the end of 2016 have received their reports, and will now be using these to plan ongoing strategies for their own contexts. The National Executive has also received a report for the Movement nationally, based on the total results of the 25% of CRC churches that took part in the survey. Pr Bill Vasilakis continues to meet annually with the Lead Pastors of 200+ and 400+ churches, with the view to develop leadership skills to grow their churches to the next level. CONNECTING CHURCHES There has been an increase in connectedness among CRC ministers across the nation. This has been facilitated both by a stronger regional presence, and by the CRC s connection-oriented ministers, such as the state ministers in SA/NT/WA and others like Prs Rob and Liz Bailey who travel around and regularly catch up with ministers in all corners of our great country. REACHING NATIONS For more details on our CRC Missions strategies and outcomes, I refer you to the reports prepared by our International Missions Director, Pr Barry Silverback, and our Australian Missions Director, Pr Mike Cronin. TRAINING PEOPLE After ordaining 13 new CRC ministers during 2016, another 17 have been ordained during This totals 30 new ministers in 2 years, which is a testament to the strength of both our Movement and the training programs we utilise. With 59 students studying the various Diploma in Theology and Ministry courses this year, I am sure we will continue to see many people, both younger and more experienced, come into ministry roles in the near future. The CRC College of Ministry, under the leadership of Pr Chris Carmody, is looking to expand its options in the areas of Childrens Ministry and Church Planting to join with those already in Youth Ministry, Missions and Worship areas. It s an innovative time for CRC Training, and we continue to pray for Chris and his team as they lead the transition into these new courses. 12

... STRATEGIC REPORT REPRODUCING CHURCHES The CRC in Australia has planted 15 new churches since the start of 2015, which is an incredible rate of growth. In addition, many churches are looking to plant in the next couple of years. To facilitate this planting process, Pr Phil Cayzer and his Church Planting team will be running TOOLSHED Church Planting schools 3 times each year, with one in each State Council area. Phil would like each church to identify a planter or two, and make the investment to send them along each year to be trained. CHRISTIAN EDUCATION Pr Phil Cayzer is also championing this area. It is great to see an expanding network of CRC schools across our nation. The Lead Pastors of CRC churches overseeing Christian Schools have met for the first time to look at strategies to both expand the network of schools, and to strengthen the relationship between them. SHAPING GENERATIONS YOUTH Much of the efforts in this area over the last year have been focused on preparation for the WILDHEARTS Youth Conference in October, which will be held at Portlife Church. Pr Tim Lochens will be finishing up as the National Youth Director at this conference, and he leaves a strong legacy of growth and relevance for the new team to take into the future. During the Strategic Directions timeframe, we have seen an 8% increase in the number of CRC churches with an active youth ministry in their local context. SHAPING GENERATIONS CHILDREN Again, much of the efforts over this year have focused on preparation for the CRC Kids Conference in October, at Christian Family Centre Seaton. Pr Caroline Dennis will be finishing as the National Children s Director at this conference, and under her enthusiastic leadership we have seen an increase of 13% in the number of CRC churches with an active ministry to children. It has been pleasing to see the positive response of our CRC ministers to the new Duty of Care requirements that were instigated after the October 2015 National Conference. Ministers are reminded to forward updated documentation to the National Office as their current documentation expires. CONCLUSION I continue to enjoy my role in working with leaders across our nation to further the cause of God s Kingdom, while at the same time keeping up with the very real and often insistent demands of administration and compliance. Please don t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding church governance. Peter Gillard National Administrator 13

AUDIT REPORT AUSTRALIA INCORPORATED ABN: INDEPENDENT AUDITOR S REPORT TO THE MEMBERS OF CRC CHURCHES INTERNATIONAL AUSTRALIA INCORPORATED Report on the Audit of the Financial Report Opinion We have audited the financial report of CRC Churches International Australia Incorporated (the association), which comprises the assets and liabilities statement as at 30 June 2017, the income and expenditure statement for the year then ended, and notes to the financial statements, including a summary of significant accounting policies, and the certification by members of the committee on the annual statements giving a true and fair view of the financial position and performance of the association. In our opinion, the accompanying financial report presents fairly, in all material respects gives a true and fair view of the South Australian Act, the financial position of the association as at 30 June 2017 and its financial performance for the year then ended in accordance with the accounting policies described in Note 1 to the financial statements and the requirements of the South Australian Act. Basis for Opinion We conducted our audit in accordance with Australian Auditing Standards. Our responsibilities under those standards are further described in the Auditor s Responsibilities for the Audit of the Financial Report section of our report. We are independent of the association in accordance with the ethical requirements of the Accounting Professional and Ethical Standards Board s APES 110: Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants (the Code) that are relevant to our audit of the financial report in Australia. We have also fulfilled our other ethical responsibilities in accordance with the Code. We believe that the audit evidence we have obtained is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for our opinion. Emphasis of Matter - Basis of Accounting We draw attention to Note 1 to the financial report, which describes the basis of accounting. The financial report has been prepared to assist the association to meet the requirements of the South Australian Act. As a result, the financial report may not be suitable for another purpose. Our opinion is not modified in respect of this matter. Responsibilities of the Committee for the Financial Report The committee is responsible for the preparation and fair presentation of the financial report in accordance with the financial reporting requirements of the South Australian Act and for such internal control as the committee determines is necessary to enable the preparation and fair presentation of a financial report that is free from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error. In preparing the financial report, the committee is responsible for assessing the association s ability to continue as a going concern, disclosing, as applicable, matters relating to going concern and using the going concern basis of accounting unless the committee either intends to liquidate the association or to cease operations, or has no realistic alternative but to do so. Auditor s Responsibilities for the Audit of the Financial Report Our objectives are to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial 18

... AUDIT REPORT report as a whole is free from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error, and to issue an auditor s report that includes our opinion. Reasonable assurance is a high level of assurance, but is not a guarantee that an audit conducted in accordance with the Australian Auditing Standards will always detect a material misstatement when it exists. Misstatements can arise from fraud or error and are considered material if, individually or in the aggregate, they could reasonably be expected to influence the economic decisions of users taken on the basis of this financial report. As part of an audit in accordance with Australian Auditing Standards, we exercise professional judgement, and maintain professional scepticism throughout the audit. We also: Identify and assess the risks of material misstatement of the financial report, whether due to fraud or error, design and perform audit procedures responsive to those risks, and obtain audit evidence that is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for our opinion. The risk of not detecting a material misstatement resulting from fraud is higher than for one resulting from error, as fraud may involve collusion, forgery, intentional omissions, misrepresentations, or the override of internal control. Obtain an understanding of internal control relevant to the audit in order to design audit procedures that are appropriate in the circumstances, but not for the purpose of expressing an opinion on the effectiveness of the association s internal control. Evaluate the appropriateness of accounting policies used and the reasonableness of accounting estimates and related disclosures made by the committee. Conclude on the appropriateness of the committee s use of the going concern basis of accounting and, based on the audit evidence obtained, whether a material uncertainty exists related to events or conditions that may cast significant doubt on the association s ability to continue as a going concern. If we conclude that a material uncertainty exists, we are required to draw attention in our auditor s report to the related disclosures in the financial report or, if such disclosures are inadequate, to modify our opinion. Our conclusions are based on the audit evidence obtained up to the date of our auditor s report. However, future events or conditions may cause the association to cease to continue as a going concern. Evaluate the overall presentation, structure and content of the financial report, including the disclosures, and whether the financial report represents the underlying transactions and events in a manner that achieves fair presentation. We communicate with the committee regarding, among other matters, the planned scope and timing of the audit and significant audit findings, including any significant deficiencies in internal control that we identify during our audit.
