1 November, 2018 Can you imagine and experience joy? I recently received a video clip via text from our daughter of our two grand daughters. Both kids are sitting on the living room floor. Lily, age 3, is dropping a ball onto the floor. Every time she does, Hanna, 8 months, bursts into total laughter. Of course Lily keeps dropping the ball and Hanna keeps laughing. Ever time I view the clip I cannot help but smile. Hanna is experiencing so much joy from something so simple! Fast forward Hanna s life to her adult years. What will her joy level be then? How will she imagine and experience joy? How we she find joy in the adult world which is full of challenge, disappointment, hardship and conflict? Will she have less joy or will she find her way to a joy infused life as she follows Jesus on her life s path? Guided by God s Spirit, the Apostle Paul, wrote to the New Testament church in Philippi. Although Paul wrote from prison, the main theme of his letter was joy. Imagine that! Paul is in chains, uncertain of his future, and he writes about joy. This month will explore imagining and experiencing joy through thanksgiving, through hardship, and even in the middle of conflict. And we will find that it all centers around Jesus Christ! Get ready to both imagine and experience joy, not because everything is going right, but because Jesus Christ is with you. Pastor Steve 2018 AREA CHARGE CONFERENCE (aka Annual Business Meeting) will be held at Cornerstone Church on Sunday, December 2nd - 3:00 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend from Cornerstone and Encounter. Other areas churches will also be in attendance for this business meeting in which District Superintendent Randy Cross will be presiding.

9 NEW 4-WEEK CLASS OPPORTUNITY QUEST: PARENTING IN A SEXUALIZED CULTURE By PUREHOPE A quest is a long and difficult search for something, and that's what a godly life in a sexualized culture is all about. This dynamic video series provides teaching, tools, and strategies that help parents navigate these questions: What does the Bible say about sex? I. The Foundation How do I talk to my kids about sex? II. The Conversation How do I manage the technology invading our home? III. The Technology How do I lead my kids when I've made my own mistakes? IV. The Legacy We truly are on a quest: a long, difficult, but ultimately glorious search for meaning, joy, healing, love and relationship with a faithful, holy God who draws near to us, even when we feel far from Him. All of us are on that journey, and in becoming parents, we have brought our children into that quest with us, whether we know it or not! We are parenting in a new atmosphere and we need new tools and strategies, new levels of encouragement from one another. Parents, you have what it takes to help your kids not just survive in a sexualized and digital age, but to thrive and lead others. Join us on this quest through God's Word of why He created us as sexual beings, how we are to steward this gift, and how we can share His story with our kids. Join Pastor Steve for four week s on Wednesday s beginning Wednesday, November 28 Wednesday, December 19 6:00-7:00 pm. Discipleship Center room 102 WEDNESDAY STOP
10 CHRISTMAS OFFERING Our Christmas Eve Offering goal this year is $35,200 which includes 10% for the Cornerstone Emergency Relief Fund, and then split between two projects that rebuild lives; one here in SD and one in Entebbe, Uganda. The first $14,000 of the offering will go to a scholarship fund at Teen Challenge of the Dakotas in Brookings, which is the amount it costs to sponsor one person through their Christ-centered, ten month program to set a person free from addiction. While the press continues to write about the opioid crisis in the US, we want to do something about it! What a great Christmas present to give: Giving a person the opportunity to find freedom from addiction through Jesus Christ! After we pass the $14,000 mark, our goal is an additional $18,000 to fund half the purchase price of land for a Christian school run by Pastor Mukisa in Entebbe, Uganda. In recent years we have formed a working relationship with Pastor Henry, which has included some Cornerstone folks visiting and observing first-had his work in providing Christian education and leadership training for children in Entebbe. Last year Pastor Henry visited Cornerstone and Encounter, sharing life story and mission. The school is currently renting the land used by the school, which makes them vulnerable to both rent increases and losing their site. Helping them purchase land would put the school and it s ministry to children on a firm footing for years to come! Please begin to pray now about the amount you feel the Lord is asking you to give. We will receive the Christmas Eve Offering at both the 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Christmas Eve services. THANK YOU for supporting our KIDS HOPE USA program this school year. Because of your love for children, we were able to give 20 children at McKinley School and the Intermediate School two very special gifts: 1. A mentor, who faithfully shows up each week to help a child learn and remind the child that they are special. AND 2. A behind the scenes prayer partner. We are grateful for the mentors and prayer partners who have and still are ministering to these children. God continues to transform lives through simple, one hour meetings between KIDS HOPE USA mentors and children. One child. One hour. One church. One school. If interested in participating in this sweet commitment, contact Carole Holien or Lola Sackreiter
