His goal is to connect the passion, leadership and excitement of congregations, individuals and presbyteries to the mission and ministries of the wider Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) He has a knowledge of the recent World Mission activities and relationships. We hope you will join us after worship today for an update from the Presbyterian Mission Agency (PMA) on what the PCUSA is up to in the world. Creation Care thought: Approximately 280 billion plastic bags are used in the United States every year. That s more than 1200 bags per U. S. resident per year. Do you use reusable bags? 5 Fall Art Exhibit in Westminster Hall: Lucas Cranach, Artist of the Reformation with Bob Hendricks. One of the ways we remember the Reformation from 500 years ago is by the art work of Lucas Cranach the Elder, considered the most successful German artist of his time. He was a close friend of Martin Luther and he embraced the protestant reformation with enthusiasm. We are privileged to have the excellent photography of Bob Hendricks, who has studied and photographed Cranach s work. Bob will display his photos in Westminster Hall through November. All are invited to come to BPC s Fallapalooza on Sunday, October 29 at 4:00 p.m. We ll carve pumpkins. The Youth Group will be hosting a spaghetti dinner to raise money for CROP Hunger Walk at 5:00 p.m. Enjoy live music by Kat Mills! So bring a pumpkin and a friend and come enjoy the fun and fellowship! (Don t forget to bring your donation for dinner!) Dr. Ruth Shakespeare and her staff developed this program and it will grow over a 3 5 year period. The Food Security Program there that BPC has supported for quite a while will be greatly enhanced by growing and enhancing community and personal sustainable gardens and animal projects in many more villages in the Hospital s catchment area. The approach for this program is: poverty reduction, reducing livelihood vulnerability, improving environmental sustainability and participatory approaches. We have a 6 page description of the program if anyone is interested! One BPC member heard about this and has given a most generous gift to help the project get off the ground. They are in Phase 1 of the project which involves establishing support, assessing existing community gardens and primary school gardens to agree on next steps with the community. Also, consulting with local leaders to assess poorly utilized land with a view to implementation of future irrigation. A Director has recently been hired and we will soon be hearing more about him! What an exciting time for Mulanje Mission!

7 Guatemala The vast majority of Guatemala's citizens live below the poverty level. Many times, people take their chances as illegal immigrants in the US because it's the only way to provide for their families. CEDEPCA (Protestant Center for Pastoral Studies in Central America) seeks to make a difference by educating pastors and community leaders within its seminary, empowering women through education and support so they can earn money for their families, and within its Disaster Ministry CEDEPCA provides a seed program that includes enough seeds to feed a family for a year and training on sustainable farming techniques. Bangladesh We are helping the Church of Bangladesh strengthen its advocacy for healthcare access, (poor access) uses up unnecessary income. Of special concern is the exploitation of poor patients by a corrupt medical system, mainly through kick backs to physicians by laboratories and pharmacies. Pregnant women are the objects of systematic exploitation by obstetric doctors doing unnecessary Caesarian sections for profit, instead of allowing women to have normal deliveries. The CoB plans to establish a Patient Advocacy Network involving the Christian Mission Hospital in Rajshahi, Bangladesh, Shalom (a Christian social development program) and the 27 Rajshahi area congregations.
