2 ~ Upcoming Dates & Announcements ~ Next Prayer Meeting - February 25th at 5pm Please join us each fortnight and let us always keep the communication channels open to heaven. Business Meeting - On February 25th there will be a business meeting held at 6pm after the prayer meeting at 5pm, Please have all your requests and submissions in by Monday February 23rd. May God bless you and lead you in His truth always. Attendance Survey - This week there is an attendance survey for the Victorian Conference. It is not compulsory, but you are asked to participate and should only take a few minutes. Thankyou. Free to Bottlers - Joan Ruthven has some jars suitable for bottling fruits and vegetables. If anyone is interested in obtaining them, please see Joan after the service. Combined Lunch - There will be a combined lunch this Sabbath, after the Divine Service and combined lunches for the remainder of the month. All are welcome to join us for fellowship and a light meal.. Eating 4 Health Recipe Club - The recipe club is due to commence March 31st. Siew Lim will be doing the cooking demonstration and Peter Tung the health talk. Please pray for all those who are taking part, and do come along for help and support. Also if you are interested in doing a cooking demonstration this year, please see Peter or Lynette Tung. Camp The Camp Planning Committee of the Conference have listened to what the church members had to say regarding the Conference Tents for 2015 Camp. They recognise that the first decision was not the best. There ARE Conference Tents available NOW! Put in your application early and secure your conference tent. Cost for a Conference Tent is $225. A wonderful Spiritual Feast awaits you and your family. Don t miss it! New posters out in the churches next Sabbath highlighting some of the speakers and the theme is: Inspired to Serve 2

4 ~ Adventist News Network ~ IN THAILAND, ADVENTIST UNIVERSITY HOSTS MOBILE EYE SURGERY CLINIC Red Cross volunteers perform hundreds of operations for local elderly in need February 10, 2015 Muak Lek, Saraburi, Thailand Kannika Seesookphu and Patthita Chotwittayagan A Seventh-day Adventist university in Thailand recently hosted a group of volunteer ophthalmologists who offered free eye care for more than 250 nearby elderly residents in need. The Church s Asia-Pacific International University in the Saraburi province hosted the Mobile Eye Surgery Eye Clinic, sponsored by the province s Red Cross Society February 2 to 6. Patients were diagnosed with cases of cataract, pterygium, and other eye-related conditions. The surgeries for most cases took five to 10 minutes to complete, while more challenging cases took up to an hour. In Thailand, volunteer ophthalmologists from Saraburi province s Red Cross came to Asia- Pacific International University in Muak Lek last week to provide free eye surgeries for underprivileged elderly from surrounding districts. Phan Wannamethee, secretary general of the Thai Red Cross of Thailand, also The mobile clinic was set up in various spots around campus, including a multi-use room, the dining room and the church parking lot. The clinic served underprivileged elderly from five districts Muak Lek, Nhong Kae, Khaeng Koi, Wihan Dang and Wang Muang. The program was also supported by Dr. Varangkna Tongkamsai, an ophthalmologist for Nations Relief and Community Health Protection Society, who conducted the eye operations. Organizers said the highlight of the five-day event was a February 4 appearance by Phan Wannamethee, secretary general of the Thai Red Cross Society and a representative of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, Executive Vice-President of the Thai Red Cross Society. 4

5 University President Loren Agrey accompanied Wannamethee as he observed the different functions of the mobile clinic. Saraburi Governor Wichian Puttiwinyu also attended the event, delivering remarks at the opening ceremony on February 2. "We praise God for an opportunity to take part in this project," said Diana Riesenberger, a university spokeswoman. The Princess Sirindhorn Mobile Eye Surgery Clinic was established in 1995 to commemorate Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn s 40th Birthday. The project has advanced to be a surgical mobile unit to provide free eye treatment for people with cataracts, glaucoma and disease of eyelids. Posted February 6, 2015 By CATHY LYNN GROSSMAN 2015 Religion News Service Most Americans who know about the deadly attack on the Paris headquarters of the satirical Charlie Hebdo magazine say it s OK that the weekly featured cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad. A new survey from the Pew Research Center shows 76 percent of Americans know of the January 7 attack, and among this group 60 percent of Americans support the magazine s right to publish these controversial images, while 28 percent disapprove. However, one in four Americans overall offered no opinion because, they said, they had not heard about the violent attack where 10 artists and writers and two policemen were murdered. The survey of 1,003 U.S. adults was conducted January 22-25, two weeks after the attack. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.7 percentage points in the portion of the report that deals only with those who said they had heard about the incident. The survey looked more closely to see how members of this group explained their views. Of those who supported the right to publish, despite traditional Islamic prohibitions 5

6 on showing images of the Prophet Muhammad: * 70 percent cited freedom of speech and the press to explain their view, according to Pew. * Several noted that Charlie Hebdo mocked all religions. Said one survey respondent: They re equal opportunity insulters. * Most were white (70 percent), male (67 percent) and Republican or leaning to the GOP (70 percent). And they represented majorities of all major religious groups, as well as the religiously unaffiliated. Those who disapproved of the French magazine s actions: * Divided among people who said publishers should respect religious beliefs (35 percent) and those who said they should avoid offensive, politically incorrect or inappropriate speech (31 percent). It s a matter of respect -- things you just don t do, said one respondent. * Only 7 percent would squelch publication to avoid violence, threats or anger. * This group includes women (33 percent), racial and ethnic minorities (48 percent) and people who favor the Democratic Party (55 percent). But Americans' attitudes toward the Charlie Hebdo cartoons did not affect their views on whether U.S. media will publish content that may offend some people s religious beliefs: * 48 percent expect there will be no impact on U.S. news media. * 24 percent said American publishers will hesitate to publish such material. * 16 percent thought publishers would be more willing to do so. * 12 percent offered no opinion. ~ Keep The Faith Ministries ~ SCIENCE: INCREASINGLY MAKES CASE FOR GOD In 1966 Carl Sagan announced that there are only two important criteria for a planet to support life, which meant that a septillion planets (1 with 24 zeros) were capable of supporting life in the universe. Now researchers have learned that there are over 200 parameters required to support life, which has reduced the odds of a single planet (ours, for instance) being able to support life to less than zero, suggesting that we shouldn t be here. The odds against life in the universe are astonishing. Yet, there is life here on earth. Did all those parameters happen by accident? At what point is it fair to admit that 6

7 science suggests that we cannot be the result of random forces? wrote a Wall Street Journal columnist. Doesn t assuming that an intelligence created these perfect conditions require far less faith than believing that a life-sustaining Earth just happened to beat the inconceivable odds to come into being? But that s not all. The fine-tuning necessary for life to exist on a planet is nothing compared with the fine-tuning required for the universe itself to exist at all. Alter any one tiny value and the universe could not exist, stars could not have been formed. The odds against the universe existing are so heart-stoppingly astronomical that the idea that it just happened defies common sense. It s like tossing a coin and having it come up heads 10 quintillion times in a row. Even Fred Hoyle, the astronomer who coined the term big bang, said that his atheism was greatly shaken by the astronomical odds. He later wrote that a common-sense interpretation of the facts suggests that a super-intellect has monkeyed with the physics, as well as with chemistry and biology The numbers one calculates from the facts seem to me so overwhelming as to put this conclusion almost beyond question. Theoretical physicist Paul Davies has said that the appearance of design is overwhelming and Oxford professor Dr. John Lennox has said the more we get to know about our universe, the more the hypothesis that there is a Creator gains in credibility as the best explanation of why we are here. The greatest miracle of all time, without any close seconds, is the universe. It is the miracle of all miracles, one that ineluctably points with the combined brightness of every star to something or Someone beyond itself. 8 ~ From the Spirit of Prophecy - Think About: ~ Faith and Works by (E.G. White) - The Quality of Our Faith Chapter 9 This is Righteousness by Faith And what is it to believe? It is to fully accept that Jesus Christ died as our sacrifice; that He became the curse for us, took our sins upon Himself, and imputed unto us His own righteousness. Therefore we claim this righteousness of Christ, we believe it, and it is our righteousness. He is our Saviour. He saves us because He said He would. Are we going to go into all the explanations as to how He can save us? Do we have the goodness in ourselves that will make us better and cleanse us from the spots and stains of sin, enabling us then to come to God? We simply cannot do it. {FW 70.2} Don't you know that when the young man came to Christ and asked Him what he should do that he might have life, Christ told him to keep the commandments. Said he, "I have done it." Now the Lord wanted to bring this lesson right home. "What lack I yet? I am perfectly whole" (Matthew 19:20). He did not see that there was a thing the matter with him or why he should not have eternal life. "I have done it," he said. Now Christ touches the plague spot of his heart. He says, "Come, follow Me, and ye shall have life." {FW 70.3} What did he do? He turned away very sorrowful, for he had great possessions. {FW 70.4} Now he had not kept the commandments at all. He should have accepted Jesus Christ as his Saviour and taken hold of His righteousness. Then, as he had the righteousness of Christ, he could keep the law of God. The young ruler could not trample that law under his feet. He must respect it; he must love it. Then Christ would bring divine power to combine with man's efforts. {FW 70.5} Christ took upon Himself humanity for us. He clothed His divinity, and divinity and humanity were combined. He showed that that law which Satan declared could not be kept, could be kept. Christ took humanity to stand here in our world, to show that Satan had lied. He took humanity upon Himself to demonstrate that with divinity and humanity combined, man could keep the law of Jehovah. Separate humanity from divinity, and you can try to work out your own righteousness from now till Christ comes, and it will be nothing but a failure. {FW 71.1} By living faith, by earnest prayer to God, and depending upon Jesus' merits, we are clothed with His righteousness, and we are saved. "Oh, yes," some say, "we are saved in doing nothing. In fact, I am saved. I need not keep the law of God. I am saved by the righteousness of Jesus Christ." Christ came to our world to bring all men back to allegiance to God. To take the position that you can break God's law, for Christ has done it all, is a position of death, for you are as verily a transgressor as anyone. {FW 71.2} Then what is it? It is to hear and to see that with the righteousness of Christ which you hold by faith, righteousness supplied by His efforts and His divine power, you can keep the commandments of God. {FW 71.3} 8

Matthew 22:37 ~ Weekly Devotional ~ He who has the love of God shed abroad in his heart, will reflect the purity and love which exist in Jehovah, and which Christ represented in our world. He who has the love of God in his heart has no enmity against the law of God, but renders willing obedience to all His commandments, and this constitutes Christianity. He who has supreme love to God will reveal love to his fellow-men, who belong to God both by creation and redemption. Love is the fulfilling of the law; and it is the duty of every child of God to render obedience to His commandments.... The law of God, which is perfect holiness, is the only true standard of character. Love is expressed in obedience, and perfect love casteth out all fear. Those who love God, have the seal of God in their foreheads, and work the works of God. Would that all who profess Christianity knew what it means to love God practically.... They would have some realization of the infinite holiness of God, knowing that He is high and lifted up, and the train of His glory fills the temple. They would have a powerful influence upon the life and character of those around them, which would work as leaven amid the mass of humanity, transforming others through the power of Jesus Christ. Connected with the Source of power, they would never lose their vital influence, but would ever increase in efficiency. Love to God must be a living principle, underlying every act and word and thought. If in the strength of Christ we are seeking to maintain such a consecration, we shall be daily holding communion with God.... The principles of God's law will dwell in the heart, and control the actions. It will then be as natural for us to seek purity and holiness, to shun the spirit and example of the world, and to seek to benefit all around us, as it is for the angels of glory to execute the mission of love assigned them.
