Richard Wurmbrand: Psalm 100 (King James Version) 1 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. 2 Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. 3 Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. 5 For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations. Late Rev. Richard Wurmbrand spent 14 years in the Romanian communist prisons for his Christian faith. Mrs. Wurmbrand also was imprisoned nearly three years in same prisons. USA is plagued by drogues, violence, criminality, some of it sanctioned in the highest forums, even unchallenged by church leaders who should know better than keep silent. Yes the Psalmist, king David himself involved in so many wars, even repenting of many sins wrote: "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands." Iraq, Iran and so many other Middle East countries where millions died senselessly, many countries around the world torn by civil wars, so many countries under communist or Moslem oppression, entire lands are urged: "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord!" This shows the unexpected, miraculous world of God's Holy Spirit. The world is not a place to practice the philosophy of the sense of evil. Evil in this world is not conquered through rational means. The mighty Roman Empire was brought down after a humble Jewish carpenter was sentenced to die on a cross, resurrected, ascended into heaven and belief in the Son of God spread world over. Moses did not free 600,000 slaves in Egypt with rationally organizing an antislavery social movement, enthused by his fiery speeches. By his own admission a stutterer, sent by God with only a shepherd s rod to lean on, he obeyed, trusting against all odds God's upcoming miracle after miracle. The Bible explains it again and again that all this happened for the glory of God and not of man. In all countries, dancers and singers give pleasure to their customers. They are not constrained 1

2 in their shows by all the tragedies around them. They do it to earn money and personal fame. To make our Creator rejoice is more important for Christians than all philosophies. Many of our own brethren and sisters do suffer untold personal tortures and outright death in communist countries like China or Moslem dominated countries like Syria and Iraq. With heavy chains locked on their hands and legs they continued praising God. How much more reasons do we have to be thankful to God, as we enjoy so many freedoms! Many of us are stunned seeing a beautiful landscape as depicted in an unusual work of art or when hearing a piece of music by a uniquely inspired composer. We feel like this was brought from another world. A missionary publication has to be written in such a way as to reflect like a mirror God's miraculous inspiration of the Bible. A way to transport the reader into the world of the Holy Spirit. When the evangelist wrote that "In the beginning was the Word" he used in Hebrew the term "davar." "Davar" in Hebrew means "the real thing!" For "to tell" Hebrew uses the words "lesaper" meaning a "sapphire" or a jewel. Those talking should give in their speech God s reality, a speech of the value of a jewel. To give a jewel should be the principle of all our utterances, an ideal toward which we should strive. It is like a light were to flash suddenly in total darkness. The more we see evil surrounding us the more we understand, how precious is the love of God, how necessary is His grace in our daily life offering us as a gift every breath, granting us heart beat after heart beat. The weaker we feel in the face of evil and enemies the more we have to acknowledge the ultimate authority of Providence. "The Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves." Having been allowed to even know the Word of God, being allowed to be alive, having had the boon of hearing and experiencing God s love, we need enter His gates with thankfulness. The arrogance of political rulers, their lies are something to laugh at. God's truth endureth for ever. The miracles described in the Bible, Jesus' miracles described in the gospels are not to be compared with today's made up movie-stories. The word "truth" is mentioned at least 26 times in the Gospel of John. The first apostles and so many Christians in human history were ready to die as witnesses of the faith. Persecutions, tortures, even killing of Christians are not arguments against the existence of God, against the Christian faith. It is God s truth that lasts for all generations! 3 Your ur gifts have allowed us to help financially the Agape Orphanage in Pascani, Romania,, an orphanage started by my parents, Richard ard and Sabina Wurmbrand Wurmbrand; the Richard Wurmbrand College in Iasi, Romania and elderly Christians (between years old), who spent many years within communist prisons in Eastern Europe because of their Christian witness. Some of them were held in commo common n cells with my father. The following pictures tell it all. Thank you for all your prayers and gifts. The Story of Maria Stanescu The Richard Wurmbrand College is the first Christian school in the northern part of Romania having opened its doors to children with disabilities. Maria was born in a gipsy family from Harlau. Because she was born with a cleft palate, she was brought to the children s hospital St. Mary from Iasi and then she ended up in an orphanage where she lived until the age of five, five unfortunately abandoned by her parents. Now a teenager she is housed in the countryside with other orphans and two Christian ladies. She felt at first very bitter at her parents who had abandoned her and refused therefore to ever meet them. Once a Christian she agreed meeting them and found out having 3 siblings, 2 sisters aged 15 and 5 and one brother aged 10. When Maria became a Christian she started starte attending the local Jesus the Savior Evangelical church. She ended up being a role model for the entire school. She sings in the choir and helps around the house, cooking and cleaning for the orphans housed with her. Maria intends to become a missionary when becoming an adult. adult A family of 8 persons lives in one room! Dumitru and Lucica Birzu have 6 children, all attending the Richard Wurmbrand College. Andrea is in 7th grade, Daniel in 5th, Eliza in the 10th, Raluca and Oana are graduating from the 12th grade. The parents do not have jobs. Father works occasionally as a carpenter. As Christians they want to keep their children in this evangelical school so they help out the school with any and all odd jobs. 4 Rescued from living in a chicken-coop (read below!) At right, 3 of the 6 Cernat children, 1 st day at AGAPE Christian love changes lives! After finding them housed in a chicken coop, the Romanian Child Protection Agency rescued these six village children and placed three of them in the Agape Christian orphanage. Both parents, hopelessly alcoholics. Father died in an alcoholic coma. He had been released from a one year prison sentence after having tried to molest two of his little girls (these placed eventually in another orphanage.) Mother had abandoned the children already for a long time. Eight years have now passed since these children were received by the Agape orphanage. Two of the children, Marin and Danut are in 2nd and 6th grade while the oldest now 18, finished a professional school. The AGAPE orphanage was founded in 1993 by late Rev. and Mrs. Richard and Sabina Wurmbrand. The running expenses of the orphanage when started in 1993 by Rev. and Mrs. Wurmbrand, amounted to about $25,000 per year. Due to many new requirements of the European Union and galloping inflation, the orphanage needs over $120,000 per year to function properly. Due to shortage of funds, the orphanage must rely on local donations of food-packages, cans and containers. Some of its grown-up kids do work in the fields. 5 Christians helped with your gifts: Christians helped with your gifts: A Christian Testimony A Christian Testimony: Biography of Lunguleasa Ioan He is presently over 93 years old. He writes; "I became a Christian in 1934 in the Army of the Lord. Under communism I was arrested on 2/6/1959 together with other 3 brethren in my village. The three died while in prison, at the Periprava prison (in Romania) and I am the only one alive. As it happened to other brethren (I passed) through difficult interrogations, beatings, being tortured, etc. 24 other brethren who shared my cell are also now dead. We all got sentences between 6 and 12 years of prison for a total of 220 years and the seizure of any personal goods within 40 days of our sentencing. We never lost though our hope in the Lord, not even my wife who was left alone with 4 children. The communists took away our home and moved my wife and 4 children into one room with one bed. She suffered from a heart condition. She suffered all this until 1965 in patience, with no murmur or complaint through the power of the Lord. I live by myself. My only succor is my Lord and the souls yearning for the Lord. We thank the Lord for all you do (in His Name) for us, those who suffered, so that His Gospel may be preached." Biography of sister Bregaru Florica of the Army of the Lord Evangelical movement in Romania This is the wife of Gheorghe Bregaru (now deceased) who spent 5 years in Communist prisons for the Army of the Lord religious activity. Sister Bregaru has 4 children. Numerous underground meetings were held in her house. Though simple farmers, they confronted with much courage the Communist authorities for many years. She also visited Rev. Richard Wurmbrand in Bucharest before his departure from the country in After her husband s death, she maintained not only her 4 children but also the aged in-laws. She is over 85 years old and lives alone. She is full of hope that when dying will be able to see her Lord and also her husband. She is grateful and sends her thanks that someone thinks to help her. She prays unceasingly for her benefactors, so God will reward those who help ageing, lonely and sick Christians. She urges us to love and serve Lord Jesus. 6 Christians helped with your gifts: Christians helped with your gifts: Alexandru POP A Christian Testimony: Dumitra MIHAI A Christian Testimony: I live in Galati, Romania and am the 8th child of Nicolae Mihai. While I was still small my father was sentenced to 10 years of jail for religious reasons. Mother remained home to take care, to feed, educate and arrange for some future for 8 children. Being the youngest, I was the most neglected. I have ugly memories because we were often visited by the (communist) secret police to search our home, trying to find religious books. Then mother would take me in her arms reproaching the policemen the injustice done to sentence someone not guilty, having the fear of God, leaving a whole family to be helpless. I waited with great expectations for the return of my father only to be disappointed as the one who returned was a stranger I hardly knew as it took a long time to get used to the idea that he was my father. I was traumatized by this period, my soul remaining for ever sad. Looking back into my childhood, I can only remember a dark period, clouded by lack of love and attention from my mother who ended so busy for our survival. This sadness is alleviated somehow by my obedient 3 children with whom we live happy moments in the presence of Lord Jesus. I have no words to express my thanks for the interest you show for those who gathered pain in their soul, to understand their suffering and for the ray of hope you give for the future. God bless you. I am from Cluj, Romania. I thank God for everything. We have 3 children. I was arrested in 1982 because I transported Bibles. My children were asking, when is father returning (from prison?) God arranged for us to see again when I was released. I worked on a building site and there was a Christian overseer. I got involved with him in Bible transportation and I had to suffer for this many years of prison and my family had to suffer as well. God saved us in everything. Now I thank the Lord and pray for those who want to do good. Our whole family follows the Lord and we want to end up as believers. In brotherly love. Augustin POP A Christian Testimony: Both my wife and I remember the date of 3/6/82. We were married only since 6 months when I was arrested in the city of Alba Iulia, communist Romania for spreading religious hymns. After my arrest my wife, Firutza, lost her first baby. We thank from our heart to the Lord that we did have another child. My family had plenty to suffer due to my activity and I of course in turn in prison.
