Foreword It was a beautiful morning where the Pastor was preaching about being generous in giving to God. He quoted an example from the life of King David. We are spending much for our personal needs, but for God we count our money. When we give it to the Lord, it should affect us. After the sermon it was the time for offering for ministry. Everyone has to come forward and give what they can. But a poor young boy, John didn't know what to offer, he didn't even have a while everyone offered something. He was worried about what to give to God? While he was thinking so, it was his turn for offering. All of a sudden he looked at his old boots and controlling all the thoughts in his mind, he stood up and said for himself whatever others say, I will give, what I have. He went and kept his old boots near the offering box with tears in his eyes. Greetings to beloved young hearts, When the pastor came near the offering box he was shocked to see the old boots near it and asked who kept the boots here? Poor John was ashamed and stood before the pastor. Knowing John s financial situation, he couldn t say anything. A rich merchant who was watching all that had happened, came near the offering box, took that old boots and offered 200 dollar into the offering box. He gave that old boots back to John and said, You stood best by offering what you had whole heartedly. The entire church was If you can t give feed 1000 people, don t worry at least feed one poor, which is more than enough. - Mother Theresa This month we will be meditating about giving to the Lord! Giving your best to the best person is always the best. stunned to see what was happening there. Dear young people, today you give what you have to the Lord and don't doubt about it. Are you willing to give to the Lord from the little you have? That s why king David said to Araunah, No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price; nor will I offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God with that which costs me nothing. So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver (2 Samuel 24:24). When we give it to the Lord, it should affect us. "Give and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you. 7 Testimony: Compiled by: Jishya He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the beggar from the ash heap We would have often heard this verse in sermons. But, is it really possible for God to raise someone from the dust and lift them higher. Can this happen in our real life? Come, let s hear what Jeba says. God who raised me out of the dust Sis. Jeba Jeba, tell us about your family My name is Jeba Rani. My native place is Mookuperi which is in Tuticorin district. I was born in a traditional CSI Christian family, but my mother belonged to Hindu religion. I have two younger brothers. Can you tell us about your school days? Till 6th std., I did my studies at Mookuperi. During my 7th std., we decided to move to Chennai as a family. I continued my studies in Chennai. I remained as a very dull student in my class. I struggled with my studies and would find it difficult to score even 35 marks in my exams. I passed out my 10th std., exam scoring very meagre marks. To sum up, I can say that I remained as a ZERO in my school days. How was your relationship with Jesus? Even though I was born in a Christian family, I never had a close relationship with Jesus. I attend Church and Sunday class regularly, but I never had a relationship with Jesus. When I was doing my high school, I had an illness where my face, hands, and legs swell every day during the morning. In the evening it would become normal. I was suffering from this for nearly 2 years. I had less haemoglobin count and presence of salt (sodium) in my blood when I tested in a hospital. I took continuous treatment for my ill- Youth Life 7 May 2017

ness. Our family was not rich. At Anakaputhur in Chennai, we were running an oil store, on whose income, my family sustained. At one point of time, our oil store started to run in loss. To handle this and to meet our daily needs, we began to borrow money for interest. Because of this, our debts increased so high. We decided to commit suicide as a family not knowing what to do. At that time, I accepted Jesus as my saviour and took baptism. I encouraged my parents that Jesus will help us in our tough situation and made them avert from the suicide plan. Did your poverty change after accepting Christ and taking baptism? No, it did not change overnight. During that time, we shifted our house from Anakaputhur to Tambaram. Where, my mom and my brothers used to cook tiffin and sell it in the nearby areas. Using that money we used to manage our expenses and have food. There have been also times, where we remained foodless for many days. My dad started to go for work in a shop and one of my brothers went for a cleaning job in a hotel. Using both their wages, we slowly paid all our debts. Me and my mom, we Jeba s family Being a fool in my past during school days, now God has lifted me up in the ministry. Youth Life 8 May 2017 used to go to the nearby villages to sell papads. Using that money only, they gave me treatment for my illness. I was praying to Jesus for a healing and He healed me. What did you do for Jesus who healed your sickness? I was not thankful to God and forgot him in my life. After few days, we returned back to our native. Within the next two days, my parents took me to Jesus Redeems office for address writing job. I need to write the name and address in the letters which are being posted from here. I did not like this job and went to work daily without interest. I used to cry and beg my mom not to send me to this job, but she never inclined her ears to my cry. I used to go the Jesus Redeems office only after getting beatings and under compulsion of my mother. I continued my job without any interest. I had only two old churidars, when I started to go to Jesus Redeems office, which was given by my neighbour. I used to go to my work wearing those. Only on the third month of my work, I was given a new uniform. I was very much delighted as I was going to wear a new dress after several months. Because of this, I started going to my work cheerfully. I participated in a youth meeting took place in Nalumavadi in During the message hour, when Bro. Mohan C. Lazarus was preaching, Jesus encountered me. God taught me many new experiences. After which, I dedicated myself completely to serve the Lord. Now it s been a joyful journey of 10 years in the ministry serving the Lord. Were you able to continue your higher studies? Being a dull student in my past during school days. God has given me the sufficient grace, wisdom, and gifts and has been using me in the ministry. When I joined Jesus Redeems, I was a 12th passed out. But now God has given me the grace to complete MBA through distance edu-

cation. Ever since I accepted Christ in my youth days, His blessing has been overflowing in my life. Jeba Rani MBA., It s nice to hear that. How about your marriage? God, who does abundantly more than we ask or imagine, made my marriage happen in a grand manner in January 2016 at the perfect time. He gave me a good husband. Once, we were without anything, but now God has blessed and lifted us before the eyes of everyone. He also blessed me to conceive within few months after my marriage. When I was 5 months pregnant, a pain developed on the right side of my hip. Doctors told that I have excess fluid in my kidney. Because of this, they told me that I can t have this child as it may impose a risk to my life. We went to many hospitals. Everywhere they said that it s impossible to save both the mother and the child. And further, they said even if they operate and take the child, it would be premature baby with birth defects. But we prayed with faith for a normal delivery. Jeba with her husband and child Once, we were without anything, but now God has blessed and lifted us before the eyes of everyone. Also, many prayer cells prayed for us. God heard our prayers and on my 10th month, on October 21st, God blessed us with a beautiful boy child named Jenish Jefferson. As I did ministry for Him, He has never let me to be ashamed and has lifted me up in everything. What would you like to say to or youths? When you truly trust in the Lord, obeying his words and seeking to do his will, surely God will lift you up from the dust and place you in higher places. I learnt from my life that only God change a person to be a minister, ministering for God. We can see that Jesus has changed the life of Jeba, who was once living in poverty not even having food to eat, affected by disease, debt and suicidal thoughts of her family. God has come to rescue her from all her afflictions, lifted her up from the dust, and gave her good education and wisdom and anointed her to do the ministry. He has now lifted Jeba to be in the higher places. Dear readers, you may be in a tough situation, your future may look bleak, but hold on. God who has lifted up Jeba will surely lift you up. Seek him truly. Do ministry. He is capable of changing all your shames into joy. To beat the heat this summer Drink two to four glasses of water every day after you wake up in the morning. Have water-rich foods like Orange, Cucumber, and Watermelon. Before you step out of your house, drink a glass of water. Eat Tomato, Pomegranate, and Amla daily. Include Soya, Grams, and Protein rich foods in your meal. Try to have juices of Cucumber, Cabbage, Pumpkin, Plantain, Carrot, Peppermint, Coriander, and Lemon. Youth Life 9 May 2017

Cover Story: Roselind Rex Let's talk Give what you have Last Month Riya is the in charge of the youth fellowship in her church. Sarah and Silas are the new joinies in the fellowship. Though they have a lot of doubts regarding the Bible, they never fail to meet sister Riya every month. Riya patiently answers their questions and clarifies all their doubts. Let s have a look at their meeting for this month. Riya: Welcome Sara and Silas! I ve got a surprise for you! Sara: Wow! What is that akka? Riya: Today, I ve shifted our discussion to the dining room. Yes, we re going to have our discussion over lunch. Silas: Akka, this is an unexpected surprise! How were you able to read our minds? Riya: First take a look at the dishes on the table. (Both Silas & Sarah stood dumbstruck on seeing the mouthwatering variety of dishes on the table.) Riya: This is Mutton Chukka, Beef Cutlet, Chicken 65, biryani, rice, prawn fry and finally shark pudding. Youth Life 10 May 2017 Silas: Akka did you prepare all these dishes on your own and just for us? Riya: Yes, of course. I love cooking. Now, sit down and begin to eat. Also, start shooting out your questions. Sara: First of all thanks for the surprise lunch akka. It was indeed surprising and delightful for all of us. I ve started to talk to Jesus a lot these days. In fact, I ve started to discuss all my things with him. It s very delightful to see him answer even my small prayers. Not only that akka, Jesus is guiding me just like a friend while reading the Bible. Thank you, so much akka! Silas: Now, this is my turn. To be very frank, I haven t taken prayer seriously ever in my life. But there was a huge issue in the office and I thought of implying what you said and prayed a small prayer. The very next day the problem which was threatening me like a mountain vanished like a dew. I ve understood the power of prayer and the mightiness of Jesus. Thanks for your guidance akka. Riya: It s very joyful to hear these testimonies from you. None can be a better friend than our Jesus. We just have to stay in touch with him like a Wifi

to handle any problem in life in a light and easy way. Ok, what question do you have in your mind for this month? Silas: For a change, we ve decided to listen to whatever you teach us, this time akka. Riya: Oh, so you want me to choose the topic for today s discussion.. Sarah have some biryani, Silas don t hesitate to have whatever you like. Silas: Akka I never feel shy when it comes to eating and food. Riya: Okay, I have a question for you. Father Jesus has given his life for you, forgave your sins for free, and blessed you with good parents, food, clothes, education and job. What have you given for him? (They looked at each other and started to wonder what to say next) Sara: We give offering to our church every Sunday and we also give donation for meetings every now and then. Silas: Akka, please don t mistake me. We all know that our God is rich in everything. Gold & silver belongs to him. If that is the case, why should we give to him? Riya: Once a dad bought a large Dairy Milk chocolate to his child and said Darling, give some chocolate to daddy. The child thought for a while and gave him a small piece of the chocolate. But the heart of the father was completely filled with joy. This happens because while giving something to a person, we express the love we have for them. One can give without loving, but one cannot love without giving said Amy Carmichael. She dedicated her entire life for serving the helpless women and the prostitutes and showcased them the love she had on Jesus. Sara: But, at times it is saddening and irritating to see pastors and people in ministry constantly asking for offerings. Has Jesus ever asked his people to do like this? Riya: First of all you have to understand few basics thing about giving. We aren t going to meet the needs of God by giving. The Lord God himself created the world and has been ruling over it. But all his creations are working under a "give and take policy". The cloud which gains water from the ground must give rain. The seed which receives the rain must give fruits and the blossomed rose must give fragrance. As we grow by receiving from others, we must also learn to give people so that One can give without loving, but one cannot love without giving. - Amy Carmichael they can live and grow in their life. Since the entire world is functioning based on this "give and take policy", if the ones who receive cease to give, every one of us will be pushed to a state of extinction. Since we didn t bother to replant the trees which we cut down for the sake of Youth Life 11 May 2017

highways and residential areas, we are now suffering such a hot temperature. In spite of being the best of all creations we re the ones struggling to give. Silas: Does giving involve such deep concepts? Considering this then, what we give is very small indeed. Riya: If every one of us had given the ones around us at the right time, there wouldn t have been any beggars and poor people in this country. We always have the greed to want more and we are never satisfied with what we have and we never bother to think about the who don't have even the basic amenities. Even if we think, we fail to give them fearing that we might end up losing our wealth. Silas: Akka nobody has told us this basic truth in our life. Riya: The other truth behind giving is explained through this proverb Give and you shall receive. When we give whole heartedly, God will give it back to you plenty folds. None can match God when it comes to giving. He gave his only begotten son for the sake of our sins. Silas: Is it highly essential that we should give for ministries? Riya: Our God s only expectation is the entire human race should reach heaven. As Satan is in control of the earth currently, he is using the authorities, talents, money and media to kill people and destroy them. So, God gives his vision to the pastors and people in the ministries and make them serve and spread the love of Jesus to the ones who are in need of it like the poor, the sick and the helpless. Sara: Now I can understand it clearly. So, all we need to do is just give money to ministires and churches, is it? Riya: Not only money, we can give our things, time, talent and spiritual gifts to others. These will make Youth Life 12 May 2017 many people reach heaven, else they ll end up in hell. Silas: Giving these things are possible akka, but in some meetings the speakers are asking the people to devote ourselves as full time missionaries; how is that possible? Riya: During those days, missionaries left their country, their house and came to India via ships just for us. If they hadn t done that, we wouldn t have got Jesus, education, medical facilities and other such developments. But now we visit the church once in a week, give some offering and live a selfish, luxurious and fun filled life. God doesn t call everybody for full time ministry. But when he does, we have to understand that it is because of the tears of many people. Moses got his full time calling only after the Israel people cried out to the Lord for freedom. (To the ones reading this article, when God calls you devote yourself to full time ministry without any delay) Sara: Akka we ve understood the depths of giving, how can we give to God? Riya: Join with your church or any other Christian ministry and support them in achieving their vision. Instead of wasting time in front of TV, and in shopping, minister for God. You can also use your talents for God. Savings from your pocket money or salary will be of great use to ministries and churches. If God calls you to serve fulltime, you can commit for full time ministry. You can also share the gospel to your colleagues & class mates and take them to your church. I definitely believe that you ll do all these things. Silas: Akka to be very frank, we feel that our eyes have been opened. Please pray that we follow all these things in our daily life. (After Riya prayed, Silas and Sarah left the place) To the youths reading this! What are you going to give to Jesus?

History: Jishya Last month we saw William Booth's life, how he was born in a poor family in a little town in England, how he went for work in his childhood to save his family, how he accepted Christ during his youth and how he did the ministry zealously among the poor, robbers, prostitutes without any discrimination and how he lead them into salvation. This little ministry began to grow day by day. He started with 500 volunteer in his organization in the suburban areas of London and he fed many with the vision of Food for crores. He named this organization Salvation Army. His quote was Go to the worst places and save the souls. He visited many places. In 1879 he revealed the love of Jesus by providing food and daily necessities for 75,000 poor people through 127 full time workers in 81 places. Though he supported the poor he also never failed to preach the gospel and save their souls. Oppositions increased because of which the arms and legs of many were broken during the meeting. Though they shed blood and exited many meetings, their Revival William zealous and swiftness for Christ never wavered. Thousands were saved and they joined the army of Jesus which is called the Salvation Army. In 1889, 669 people were attacked violently. Out of which, 251 were women. The ministry along with persecution grew yet the thirst to minister never decreased. The fire of revival which began in England began to spread in America. By preaching for 200 hours, he lead 1,80,000 into salvation. He preached the gospel in cinema theaters, railway stations and in places where people are gathered. Those who attended the meetings were saved. While his wife was 59 she was in death bed due to cancer. At that time she told her husband If you don t go to the Holland s meeting many will die without knowing Jesus, so you go and tell about Jesus. This shows her ministry commitment. Few weeks after the death of his wife, his 25 years old daughter Emma died in a train accident. Though grief surrounded him, he didn t leave his work for Christ. Booth After these incidents, he travelled 1224 miles in 29 days through the whole of Europe and conducted 164 meetings. Many came into the Lord through these meetings. He started to work for a man for his household needs and he accepted Christ in his youth and started his ministry in a quiet simple way. But his ministry spread the fire of revival in the midst of crores. In his 60 years of ministry, he had travelled 5 million miles, given 60,000 messages and did ministry in 58 countries. He also supported the poor and started the salvation army which revealed the love of Jesus. When he died, 16,000 full time workers were doing ministry in those 58 countries. Though he died his ministry has never died and it still spread the fire of revival. William Booth who challenged, If I got the opportunity I will even preach in the gate of hell. Do you have the desire to burn like a fire for Christ? Pray today itself help others also in the last days of revival your desire is the fire to ignite the revival!! Youth Life 13 May 2017

Ministry Journey : Priscilla Paul SO FAR! Due to the sharp agreement that happened during the second missionary journey of Paul, he took Silas with him and Barnabas went with Mark in different directions towards their ministry openings. Paul came across Timothy in Lystra. After that he was stopped by the Holy Spirit not to go to few cities and thus returned to Macedonia whereby he was able to lead Lydia s family into Christ. Then, a sorcerer woman was freed from the bondage of the evil spirit which ended up in prison punishment for them. God gave them a miraculous escape from the jail and was able to lead the jailer s family into Christ. Youth Life 14 May 2017 Journey This month... The jailer and his entire family who were led into salvation were baptized that very night. Paul rejoiced with his entire household that they had believed in God. Roman officers came with the release order for Paul and Silas. But Paul said to the officers: They beat us publicly without a trial, even though we are Roman citizens, and threw us into prison. And now do they want to get rid of us quietly? The officers were alarmed on hearing this. They came to appease them and escorted them from the prison, requesting them to leave the city. After Paul and Silas came out of the prison, they went to Lydia s house, where they met with the brothers and sisters and encouraged them. Then they went through Amphipolis and Apollonia and came to Thessalonica where there was a Jewish synagogue. As was his custom, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures, with Paul explaining and proving about the Messiah. Some of the Jews were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a large number of God-fearing Greeks and quite a few prominent women. But other Jews who did not believe formed a mob and started a search of Paul and Silas in order to bring them out to the crowd. But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some other believers before the city officials, shouting: These men who have caused trouble all over the world have now come here, and Jason has welcomed them into his house. But, the believers sent Paul and Silas safely away to Berea. There they immediately went to the synagogue and began to preach the word of God without any delay. In our life, if we encounter turmoil in ministry or personal life, we tend to quit or take a break. But these people began to continue their ministry even after being thrown into the prison. Nowhere did Paul and Silas were frightened of the Roman officials and the evil brothers. But the en-

tire city was afraid of them and even gave them a nick name These men have turned the world upside down. Even today, if we become frustrated in our efforts to preach the gospel, we will allow Satan to win. But if we set out in faith, even the enemy will backslide. You will be called by new names. The reason behind this is the one who is in you is mightier than the one who is in this world. Berean Jews received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. As a result, many of them believed, and were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica. But when the Jews in Thessalonica learned that Paul was preaching the word of God at Berea, some of them went there too, agitating the crowds and stirring them up. Do we examine the word of God we hear? Or do we forget what we heard? Let us desire to have a heart to examine and explore the word of God. Only when the word of God resides in us deeply, will we rise up in power and fullness of power. David says, I have kept your word in my heart so that I will not sin. We will surely inherit the spiritual blessings if we regularly meditate upon the word of God. Before the problem could evolve, Paul was escorted to Athens and left there alone. He was greatly distressed to see that the city was full of idols. So he reasoned in the synagogue with both Jews and God-fearing Greeks, as well as in the marketplace day by day with those who happened to be there. All the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there spent their time doing nothing but talking about and listening to the latest ideas. Then they took him and brought him to a meeting of the Areopagus, where they wanted to know more about the strange ideas he was speaking about. Paul, by the grace of God, boldly began his speech by highlighting the The Unknown God inscribed in their altars of worship and ended up saying that the unknown God is none other than Jesus Christ. Some of them sneered, but some others said that they wanted to hear him again on that subject. Many times, we are eager to share the gospel. But we are hesitant due to the surroundings, hard hearted people, and fear of being assaulted or insulted. But Paul stood zealous in Spirit amidst the city filled with idols. That s the reason he could share the gospel without fear. If we continue to be afraid, we will become bounded to backslide without sharing the gospel. God needs young people who can share the gospel like Paul, fearlessly! After this, Paul left Athens and went to Corinth. There he met a zealous couple, Aquila and Priscilla whom God had ordained to meet Paul. Paul went with them and preached about the Messiah in the synagogues. The Lord spoke to Paul in a vision and strengthened him saying: Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, for I am with you. So Paul stayed in Corinth for a year and a half, teaching them the word of God. They raised several com plaints on Him but God demolished all such futile complaints. Paul then left Corinth to Ephesus and preached the word of God. When they asked him to spend more time with them, he declined and set sail to Jerusalem, met the church and again went to Antioch. Thus, he ended his second missionary journey. My dear readers, even though Paul suffered due to Christ, God never left him alone. God guided him daily encouraged him whenever he was upset and enlightened him in Spirit. Today, God wants to ignite you in Spirit. If you surrender your youth to him, he will use you mightily like Paul. Are you ready? Youth Life 15 May 2017

Special Thoughts: Mercy Sam Those who gave Youth Life 16 May 2017 Abel who gave the best to the Lord Cain and Abel gave offering unto the Lord. Cain, the elder brother brought fruits of the land as an offering. The younger brother Abel brought the firstborn and the fat ones of the cattle. The Lord accepted the offering of Abel, but he didn t accept the offering of Cain. When the Lord gave witness about the offering of Abel, he said Abel brought the better offering than Cain. So he was considered righteous. Are we giving the best in everything to the Lord today! Let us decide to give our best in everything from our time, talent and money. Not like Cain who gave the last and the least to the Lord but as Abel let us give our best to the Lord! The Lord will accept it with joy! (Read: Genesis 4:2-5). Mary who gave the expensive perfume whole heartedly This Mary plays an important role in the four gospels of the Bible. When Jesus was reclining at the table in the house of Simon the leper at Bethany, Mary the sister of Lazarus came with an expensive ointment of pure nard and she poured the oil in his legs and wiped his legs with her hair. When one of the disciples said her that it could have been sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor, Jesus told them that she was doing it as the sign for the day of burial. He also told them to leave her alone. Yes, Mary could have sold costly ointment. Or could have used it for other purpose. But Mary decided to give it as an offering to Jesus. What is the costly thing in your life today? Can you give it to Jesus as Mary has done! Can you offer it in his feet! As the perfume of the ointment filled that house, the name of Jesus will fill the world through your offering! (Read: Mark 14:3-9).

their best! The widow who sowed in poverty Jesus gave witness only about few when he lived in this world. He gave witness about the giving of this widow. Jesus sat opposite to the offering box and was watching the people putting their offering into the box. Many wealthy people put in a large sum from their abundance. But this widow put in two copper coins which make a penny. Jesus who was watching this told his disciples that this widow put in more than the others. Because she had put in everything that she had to live, Christ witnessed about her. That widow wouldn t have thought like that, Jesus saw her heart which was ready to give everything she had. Do we have the heart of the widow to give everything from poverty or like the rich men who gave from their abundance! (Read: Mark 12:41-44). The boy who gave without thinking This miracle is one of the important miracles which Jesus performs while he was living in this world. A little boy was the cause of this important miracle. Jesus was preaching in the wilderness where there was nothing to eat and about 5000 and above people were listening to him. He enquired his disciples about the food for the people. In that midst a small boy had five barely loaves and two fish which he gave to Jesus knowing that it won t meet the needs of everyone. As Jesus blessed them and gave it to the people, all the people were able to eat there was an excess of about 12 baskets full. As the boy gave his 5 loaves and 2 fishes, he became an blessing to thousands of people. If you give anything which you have kept for your personal use for the people in need, then Jesus can make you a blessing for crores of people! (Read: John 6:1-13). Youth Life 17 May 2017

Message: Bro. Mohan C Lazarus Give Receive manifold Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over will be put into your bosom. Most of us are worried of poverty or financial problem because we are unaware of the blessings that we receive when we give. We should know about the blessings that we receive when we give as well as how to give. After I came to know about Jesus Christ, I thought I should not go empty handed but take offering to the church so that when the offertory bag comes to me I should offer something. I did not know about the blessings that we receive by giving. But later when I understood the meaning of the verse in Luke 6:38, I was more excited to give to the Lord and I began to see the blessing in my life according to what Jesus said Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over will be put into your bosom. Youth Life 18 May 2017 Sowing and Reaping..He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:6,7. This verse explains that giving to the Lord is similar to sowing the seed in the ground. Only if we sow we can reap. We sow little but we reap manifold! First we need to sow then at the appointed time we would see the harvest. In the early days it was said that we need to give one tenth of the blessings that we receive from the Lord. But Jesus Christ said to give first and what we give we will receive manifold (Luke 6:38).

We sow the seed of faith when we give unto the Lord. It grows at the right time and bears much fruit. A brother from a poor family began a business with the little amount that he had. He made goods by having few labourers and he himself went to sell the goods to each shop. With the money that he received by selling the goods, he used to buy the necessary things for the next day s business. His income was just enough for those expenses and he spent his days with great difficulty. Sometimes when pastor comes to his house to visit and pray, he never had even Rs.100 to offer to the pastor because if he takes 100 Rupees then it would affect his business because he would not be able to buy things for his next day s business. He was very worried that he was unable to offer anything to the servants of God. Therefore he often prayed to the Lord to bless him in such a way that he would be able to give something to the servants of God. One day when a pastor came to pray for him, God spoke to him to give Rs.100 to that pastor. Even amidst his needs, he obeyed to the voice of the Lord and gave Rs.100 as an offering to that pastor. Since then his business began to be blessed. He began to give Rs.100 as an offering every week. The Lord blessed him and made him to increase. Then he began to give Rs.1000 every week and as the Lord blessed him and his business more and more he gave Rs every week as an offering. Some would say that we should never give unto the Lord with the expectation that Lord would give us in return. Would anyone sow without expecting a harvest? What would you say about someone who says that harvest is not important for me but I would just keep sowing? The scripture says about giving unto the Lord as he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully (2 Corinthians 9:6)! Jesus has said Give and it shall be given unto you (Luke 6:38)! It is right to have faith that if we sow we will reap and expect that when we give unto the Lord, He will give us manifold. For those who have such faith, the Lord blesses them with many blessings. Seed of Faith We sow the seed of faith when we give unto the Lord. It grows at the right time and bears much fruit. Some seeds give their fruits within three months! Some seeds take six months to bear fruit! Some seeds might take even a year to bear fruit, even then the harvest is for sure! Usually a farmer doesn t sow the seeds at all places. It is foolish for him if he sows the seed on the road and expect to reap something. Jesus said that only when it is sowed in good soil there would be a good harvest (Luke 8:8). It is not important to know how much money is coming into the house. The Lord s blessing should be in our income. Youth Life 19 May 2017

When the offering that you give is used for the growth of your church or to share the gospel or to build the kingdom of God then the Lord would bless you manifold. Similarly when you give unto the Lord, you need to see if you are sowing in the good soil which would be fruitful. You need to be wise and discern if the offering that you give is used for sharing the gospel or for the Lord s work. When the offering that you give is used for the growth of your church or to share the gospel or to build the kingdom of God then the Lord would bless you manifold. Give does not mean to give only money. You can also give your time, your talents, your labour, your love and so on. Whatever you give for the glory of God, He would bless you manifold. Never think that whatever you give unto the Lord, you would receive only as money. If we sow one sack of rice grain we don t reap one sack of harvest rather we harvest loads and loads. That is the case when we give unto the Lord! Lord will give you manifold that what you have given. If you sow once then you would reap once! If you sow many times then you would reap many times! If we keep on giving to the Lord, He would keep on blessing us! When you give unto the Lord, believe in what Jesus has said in Luke 6:38. After you give, expect a blessed harvest and you would see miracles. There are two things when you give. First, giving unto the Lord i.e. to the churches, for ministries, pastors, missionaries etc. Second, giving to the poor i.e. to the orphans, widows, those who suffer etc. Both are pleasing to the Lord. He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and He will pay back what he has given. (Proverbs 19:17. The scripture says that the Lord would bless us even when we give to the poor. Jesus has promised He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever. (2 Corinthians 9:9) As we give more and more to the Lord and to the poor, the Lord will bless us and make us to prosper. Are you worried today about what to do regarding your needs? About your debts or your financial problems? Dear youngsters! Sow your seed of faith today faithfully expecting a harvest. Your needs will be met! Your debts will be removed and you will prosper! Say this prayer in faith The Lord who said Give and it shall be given unto you, I believe in your words. I believe that what I give, you would bless it manifold and give it to me. I have decided to give to your ministry and to the poor! First, I give you myself! Accept me and my offering and bless me. In Jesus name, Amen! Amen! He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and He will pay back what he has given. Youth Life 20 May 2017

Special Article: Rex Clement On a bright sunny day, a vegetable vendor was seen rushing to an office in his bicycle not bothering the scorching heat of the sun. The office towards which he was heading was the headquarters of a missionary organization. As he entered the office, he was sweating excessively. His dress looked very old. He went on to the reception and enquired about the cashier, as he came to donate his money as offering. The receptionist looked him strange and pointed the cashier s room. On entering the cashier s room, the vegetable vendor put his hand into his pocket and took a bundle, which contained a huge amount of money and gave it over to the cashier. The cashier, with a gentle smile, asked him to take his seat first and enquired him for what cause he s been donating. The vegetable vendor replied very humbly, stating that he read about north Indian missionaries in their magazine who are in need of motorcycles for their ministry and he had come to donate money for that. He has saved penny by penny every month and now brought Rs. 50,000 as an offering to buy a motorcycle for a missionary. The cashier received it with joy and gave him an offering receipt and prayed for him. As the cashier went out to give him a sendoff, he saw the vegetable vendor moving away with the bicycle. Stopping him, the cashier asked, Youth Life 22 May 2017 Give and see Why shouldn t you have bought a motorcycle for yourself with the offering, as you have only a bicycle for your work. With a smile on the face, the vegetable vendor said, I don t like to give my God the thing which is left after cherishing everything, First, and foremost, I want to give for my Master s work, to spread the Gospel. The reply which the vegetable vendor gave him made the cashier fall in surprise. We can learn from this vegetable vendor that giving to God should come in a sacrificial manner and not from our fullness. Even though God has every riches, He commands us to give from what He has given us for building His Kingdom. Only at a single instance in the Bible, we see God asking the people to put Him to the test. We read in the Bible that, for God to bless us abundantly we need to give tithe (one-tenth) and offerings properly to God. (Malachi 3:10) As we decide to give, a question will rise in our mind, like,to whom we can give. Some used to give their tithe completely to their Church, and some used to give their tithe to some ministries. And there comes few, even for offerings they will take it from their tithe. Tithe is different from other offerings. Tithe is one-tenth of our earnings, and the offering is which we give in our free will. Let s see how we should give to the Lord. Give in a secret manner Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven (Matthew 6:1). From the income we

receive from the Lord, we should give a part of it to the Churches, to the ministries, who are doing God s work according to His will and to the people who are in need. But we need to do this in a secret manner as our Lord has commanded that our left hand should not know what our right hand does. When I was young, I have seen in some Churches in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu that they used to write the name of the donator along with their caste in the things they give as donations. This is an abomination to the Lord and the Lord completely hates it. If we give to the Lord just for the praises of men, then we shall receive no real blessings. A very close friend of mine once told me that when he donates for missionaries or poor, he doesn t let even his wife know about that. I don t say that this is right, but as we give to the missionaries and the poor, we should not trumpet it like the hypocrites did, but we should give in a silent manner as the Lord commands us and desires it to be. Give sacrificially When Jesus saw a poor widow putting two small copper coins as an offering, He appreciated her, saying This poor widow has put in more than all.about Christian giving, Bro. Patrick Joshua, the ex-secretary of FMPB said, After giving for the Lord, what remains in our hand really matters, as it says how sacrificially we have given for the Lord. Even though the poor widow offered only 2 small copper coins, she offered all that she had and had nothing left in her hand. She remained as the Giving out of our ability doesn t mean that we should borrow money for interest and give; it means that we should cut down on our daily expenses and give sacrificially for the Lord. one who gave more than all in the eyes of Jesus. Some used to offer tithe from their black money and will feel proud that they have given for the Lord. What s the difference between them and the ones who pour money in the Tirupati Temple? Give to God from the money after settling all the taxes, and you shall see the Lord blessing your income a multifold. Sacrificially, give the best to the Lord, and you can see Him blessing you with the treasures from the fullness of His riches. John Wesley told people that, they can call him a robber if they could find more than 10 pounds in his possession during his death. Most of us would have known about John Wesley, who led a sacrificial life, leaving a model for others, by giving most of his possessions for the need of others. Plan and give Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given orders so you must do also (1 Corinthians 16: 1).I know a missionary family, whenever their monthly income comes, they used to take the tithe amount separately first into a cover and paste it. Likewise, they will be having a separate cover for every expense; for grocery, for their son s studies, for milk, for home needs, and for medical expenses. Apart from these, they will be also maintaining a cover for other offerings. The interesting part is, even if any cover gets empty before the month end, they will not take money from the other covers for their needs. I have really enjoyed seeing their beautiful planning and living. Only God knows how exemplary the full-time ministers and the ministry organizations in giving their tithe and offerings to the Lord. Only when the God s children properly plan and give, the Church and the ministry works can progress in a fast paced manner. Have you ever emotionally committed yourself to give Youth Life 23 May 2017

to the Lord during meetings or camps? If so, don t delay to fulfil the vow which you have committed and settle it soon. Give liberally That in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded in the riches of their liberality (2 Corinthians 8:2). When we decide to give, we should do it liberally as the Lord desires. If someone asks help for their ministries, we should give them whole-heartedly from our riches. Few used to make vows that they will give for the Lord but won t fulfil it. And there remain few, who borrow money for interest to give it to the Lord. We see how the Macedonian Churches have given tremendously beyond their ability in the Bible. Giving beyond their ability doesn t mean that we should borrow money for interest and give; it means that we should cut short our daily expenses and give sacrificially to the Lord. As we give liberally, we are blessed with abundance. Bro. Emil Jebasingh has sung like this in one his songs, No one has become poor by giving for Christ. How true is that. The generous soul will be made rich, and he who waters will also be watered himself (Proverbs 11:25). Give cheerfully So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Corinthians 9:7). If we decide to give for Lord, we should give it with a cheerful heart. It is a sin if we fail to fulfill our promise in giving to the Lord. We should think well before we commit to give to the Lord. Be joyful in giving your tithe and offerings to the Lord and you will certainly experence greater happiness. If you have made any vows to God, don t delay in fulfilling it. It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfil it (Ecclesiastes 5:4, 5). As youths, we become emotional and make many vows. But many a time, we fail to fulfil it. Do we know how much the ministries suffer as we fail to fulfil our vows every month? If you make a vow, plan and fulfil it. Always have If we decide to give for the Lord, we should give it with a cheerful heart. an urge to fulfil your vow to the Lord without any delay. As you do so, you can see showers of blessings in your life. Not only we should give our income to God, but we should also give our time and talents to God. Above all, unless we give ourselves to God, whatever we give to God it will be of no worth. Give your tithes, and offerings to the Lord by giving them for ministries, poor, and needy people and you will see double the portion of blessings in your life. Honor the Lord with your possessions, and with the firstfruits of all your increase; so your barns will be filled with plenty (Proverbs 3:9, 10). Now we have seen how to give for the Lord. When we give for the Lord, it should be done in a secret manner, sacrificially, liberally with planning and a cheerful heart. See for yourself, whether you have any due with God in giving tithes and offerings. If there is any, settle it today itself. If you can t feed 100 people, decide to feed at least one as Mother Teresa said. He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and He will pay back what he has given (Proverbs 19:17). When you give offering to the Lord, don t take it from your tithe, but give it from your abundance. Also when you give for ministries, give as per God s leading from your savings. The world says SAVE but God says GIVE. If you obey the voice of the Lord, blessings shall come upon you and overtake you. As God has said, put Him to test by giving as per His command, and you will see greater things happen in your life. Youth Life 24 May 2017

Topical Study: Leena Avinash 5Gift Spiritual Gift GIFT OF HEALING Friends we are in the process of learning about the spiritual gifts. We saw that the spiritual gifts can be classified into two major categories as Revelation Gifts and Power Gifts. We have finished learning about the Revelation Gifts and now we are presently dealing with Power Gifts. Last month we discussed about the Gift of Faith which is one among the Power Gifts. In this article we will continue to learn in detail about the Gift of Healing. Gift of Healing is also one among the Power Gifts..to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit. (I Cor 12:9) DEFINITION Gift of Healing is a supernatural healing which happens to a person physically, emotionally or spiritually by laying hands or by speaking the word of faith without any medicine or doctor s advice. This spiritual gift is closely related to the gift of faith and miracles. All spiritual gifts are to be exercised in faith, but Gift of Healing involves a special measure of faith. Youth Life 28 May 2017 Gifts of Healings two plurals probably mean that different kinds of healings are given to various people according to God's sovereign will. While one person might have the Gift of Healing to heal a person from cancer or perform a creative miracle, another person might have a diversity of the same gift to correct lower back problems or remove a root of bitterness. There are 3 types of healings (1) Physical - diabetes, blindness, cancer, deafness etc., (2) Emotional - fear, anxiousness, worry, discouragement and depression (3) Spiritual witchcraft, bitterness, greed and guilt etc. What are the ways the Gift of Healing operates? 1) Healing through the Prayer of Faith (James 5:14-16) Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray for them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore confess

your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. 2) Healing by the Presence of God (Acts 19:11,12) God did extraordinary miracles through Paul, so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses was cured and the evil spirits left them. 3) Healing by speaking the Word of Faith (Acts 3:6,7) Then Peter said, Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk. Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man s feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking, jumping and praising God. 4) Healing by Laying hands (Luke 4:40) At sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them. HOW TO IDENTIFY THAT YOU HAVE THE GIFT OF HEALING? i) Desire to see people healed: You will have a very strong feeling or an inner desire to see people healed by the power of God. ii) You encourage others to receive healing prayer: You believe in praying for the sick and if someone is sick, your first instinct will be to pray for their healing. iii) God s call or Prophecies: You would have received God's call for the ministry of healing through some specific Bible verses or God may have confirmed you through personal prophecies through someone. You might be recently interested in studying more about healing from the word of God. You have been drawn towards the teaching & training in healing ministry. iv) You are already a part of a Prayer Group Your interest in praying for the sick has led you to join a team that prays for the sick like hospital ministry, healing ministry or assisting a healing evangelist. v) You have received a significant healing You or others close to you would have experienced problems and you would have had the healing touch of God from the sickness. vi) Leaders acknowledge your healing gift Leaders and Pastors around you start to recognize your call and ability to minister in the area of healing. They have encouraged you to use your gift or invited you to join a team that ministers in the area of healing. vii) People have been healed through you The ultimate sign that you have a Gift of Healing is when people regularly experience a touch from God and are healed physically, emotionally and spiritually. HOW THE GIFT OF HEALING IS being DEMONSTRATED? A woman who had the Gift of Healing was invited by a strong Hindu rich man to pray for his wife who was in her last stage of cancer. All the relatives have already arrived for her death ceremony. But when the praying woman saw that the dying lady had two small kids, the Holy Spirit filled her heart with a great compassion. She started to cry and intercede for the lady to add years into her life. God heard that prayer; soon after the prayer the lady with the Youth Life 29 May 2017

cancer raised and drank milk. Eventually she was healed perfectly and still now she is a witness in that village. Through this healing miracle her family and all her relatives were saved and baptized. God is our healer and He is the one who initiates the healing. He transfers His compassion into the hearts of the believers who has the Gift of Healing to heal his people. Once the compassion is transferred, the person with the Gift of Healing will have a strong faith & will be lead by the Holy Spirit to pray for the person who is sick. Then God reveals His plan of healing through their inner spirit or through a message of wisdom or through a vision. The believer who has the Gift of Healing obeys God s direction and then the divine healing takes place through the power of God. The person with the Gift of Healing will suddenly become aware of God s desire to heal or touch an individual or a group of people. They may feel, sense, see, hear or have it revealed to them through any means by God. An individual or group of people will see a positive change or turn around in their physical condition involving either sickness or disease. The end result will be a receiving of supernatural healing. EXAMPLES OF HEALING IN OLD TESTAMENT & NEW TESTAMENT (a) Elisha asks Naaman, the Syrian to immerse seven times in the water and when he obeyed he was healed perfectly from leprosy (2 Kings 5:9-14). (b) Peter saw a lame man while going into the temple and received revelation from God that the man had faith to be healed. Then Peter said, Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk. (Acts 3:1-10). Also read: (Mark 1:30-31; Mark 6:5; Mark 6:13; Matt. 4:23; Matt. 14:14; Matt. 21:14; Luke 5:15; Acts 5:16) BENEFITS OF GIFT OF HEALING The Gift of Healing can help a person to have faith in Jesus and also have hope about their life. Healing can bring the spark of revival and repentance in a certain place. It encourages those new born believers to grow in their faith. The believer who has the Gift of Healing obeys God s direction and then the divine healing takes place through the power of God. Healing ultimately leads to God s glory and builds His kingdom on earth. Dear friends, if you feel that you have this Gift of Healing don t hesitate it to exercise it. But when people get healed through your prayers, be careful to give God the glory. You may be tempted to take pride and people may be attracted towards you. So always stay humble and allow God to be glorified. Also be careful to talk about the healer than the healing. May God use you mightily to win many souls by using this Gift of Healing.
