2 THE SECRET OF A SUCCESSFUL LIFE? GET INTO THE BIBLE! LET THE BIBLE GET INTO YOU! How many of you want to prosper in all that you do? The secret is found in this book. Psalms starts out with this promise:

3 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.

Pastor Rob: On the far edge of supernatural experience in terms of physical discernment he knows that a tingle in his right thigh means one thing, while a pain in his left eyebrow means another. He has trained himself in the use of these gifts of discernment but it is ALL based on a voluminous store of Scripture, and it is all in accordance with the written Word.

20 Actually, this method got its name because Bible teacher Ada Lum first saw it used when visiting a church in Sweden.

21 The Swedish Method of Bible Study Steps of this method: 1. Pray: Ask God to speak to you through his Word. 2. Read: 10 or 12 verses out loud. 3. Each person looks for three things:

22 The Swedish Method of Bible Study A light bulb: Something that shines, that impacts, or draws your attention. A question mark: Anything you did not understand from the text, or a question you d like to ask the writer or the Lord.

23 The Swedish Method of Bible Study An arrow: A personal application of this passage to you and your situation. A speech bubble with a name: Someone who would benefit from hearing about what you discovered in the passage, before the next Bible study.

24 The Swedish Method of Bible Study 4. After reading and some thinking time, each one shares their light bulb with the group. Next, everyone shares their question, and then everyone their application. (Share more than one idea each according to the time available.) 5. Pray: Invite people to lead in prayer as they please, and pray for the people named in the speech bubbles. Someone who has been appointed beforehand closes the time of prayer.

25 Romans 5:1-11 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.

And hope does not put us to shame, because God s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

Using the Swedish Method of Bible Study, get in groups of 5 throughout the cafeteria. Then just follow the prompts as you dig into this passage together. Remember, start and end with prayer! 32 Romans Chapter 5:1-11: 1. Verse 1: What do you think "therefore" is there for? 2. How do verses 1-2 refute the popular image of a judgmental God, just waiting for us to slip up so He can slap us down? Do you have peace with God? 3. Much has been preached about verses 3-5. How do you see your sufferings and troubles? 4. How do you feel verses 6-8 reveal how much God values us? 5. What attitudes do you still hold that prevent you from accepting how important you are to God and how much He loves you? Spend some time praying about this one! 6. To try to get a handle on the depth of His love for you, consider this: You have a neighbor who is your enemy...they do things that hurt you, disrespect you, say bad things about you, etc. How much would you have to love this neighbor for you to sacrifice one of your children to get the neighbor's friendship? That's how much God loves each of us.
