All Saints School, York FORM PRAYERS SUMMER TERM

Here at All Saints, we have a short act of collective worship which normally takes place during registration period at the beginning of each day. There is a short theme or prayer for each day which is often based on the liturgical year or the school calendar. There is the opportunity for a few moments of silence to offer our own prayers to God at the beginning of the day. We conclude by praying together one of the three most common prayers of the Church: The Our Father The Hail Mary The Glory be Miss E Wright Chaplaincy Coordinator 2 P a g e

Monday 24 April 2017 This Week we are thinking about Our Place in the Universe The sun is so large that if it were hollow, it could contain more than a million worlds of the size of our earth. There are stars in space so large that they could easily hold 500 million suns the size of ours. Stop and think for a moment how small we are in the universe. Yet we can read in the bible that God has written the name of each of us on the palm of his hand. Lord God, Creator of light, at the rising of the sun each morning let the greatest of all lights, your love, rise like the sun within my heart. We ask this through Christ our lord. Our Father, who art in heaven; Hallowed by Thy name; Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and Lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. 3 P a g e

Tuesday 25 April 2016 In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Sunday 16 April was the Feast Day of Saint Bernadette. Happy Feast day to all Bernadette Forms St Bernadette was born into a poor family in France in the 19th Century. She was ill as a child and suffered from poor health for the rest of her life. Because she missed a lot of time at school, she struggled with her studies and her teachers thought that she wasn t very clever. When she was 14, St Bernadette received a number of visions of Our Lady. In one, Bernadette was told to dig in the mud with her hands. She did, and water began to flow. From this spring the small village of Lourdes has now become a major pilgrimage site. Miraculous cures have been reported and around 8 million people visit each year for prayer and support, including pupils from our school. St Bernadette is patron saint of the sick and also an inspiration to those that struggle in school. Lord, you have blessed me with many gifts, but I know it is my task to realize them. May I never underestimate my potential, may I never lose hope. May I find the strength to strive for better, the courage to be different, the energy to give all that I have to offer. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Hail Mary full of Grace The Lord is with thee Blessed art thou amongst women and Blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. 4 P a g e

Wednesday 26 April 2017 This Week we are thinking about Our Place in the Universe Lord, Your greatness is seen throughout the earth. When I gaze at the heavens which your fingers have formed, and look at the moon and the stars which you have set there, I realise how small we are in the majesty of your creation. Yet you treasure us above all that you have made, and you give us control over all the works of your hand animals, both wild and tame, birds in the air and the creatures of the sea. Lord, May we love and respect all of your creation, all the earth and every grain of sand in it. May we love every leaf, every ray of your light. may we love every living thing in your world, for we acknowledge that to withhold any measure of love from anything in your universe is to withhold that same measure of love from you. 5 P a g e

Thursday 27 April 2017 This Week we are thinking about Our Place in the Universe Amidst the vastness of space you treasure mankind and you call each of us by name. You so love our world that, in the fullness of time, you sent Jesus your Son, to live among us. Lord, inspire us each day to live in wonder and appreciation of all that is around us. May your love, seen fully in Jesus, your son, surround us this day and forever. 6 P a g e

Friday 28 April 2017 This Week we are thinking about Our Place in the Universe God, open our eyes that we may sense the wonder and the awe in the splendour of all your creation from the stars that are large and far away to the people and the tiniest creatures near us each day. Help us to become more aware of how every living thing is special and that it should be treated well. Lord, lead us to respect and value every person as unique and important, and made in your image and likeness. 7 P a g e

Oh God, our heavenly Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named: we entrust to your loving care the members of our families, both near and far. Supply their needs; guide their footsteps; keep them in safety of body and soul; may your peace rest upon our homes and upon our loved ones everywhere. We ask this through Christ our lord. O God, protect those whom we love when they are separated from us. Guide them when they are uncertain, comfort them when they are lonely or afraid, and bless them with the warmth of your presence. Thank you that neither space nor time can cut us off from the love we have for each other and for you. Hail Mary full of Grace The Lord is with thee Blessed art thou amongst women and Blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. 11 P a g e

I m not sure that I want to go to college or sixth form But if I don t do my best I know that I ll be disappointed. Which I guess says it all. I ve just got to get on with it The summer holidays aren t that far away, So the question is, do I want to spend them Feeling gutted that I didn t do my best or proud that I did? The answers simple, isn t it, Lord? Hail Mary full of Grace The Lord is with thee Blessed art thou amongst women and Blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. 12 P a g e

Help them Lord to be able to pass their exams. To always strive to do their best for you. You aren t an assembly-line product. You were deliberately planned, specifically gifted, and lovingly positioned on the Earth by the Master Craftsman Eternal Father, God of all creation, source of all life, may we praise you by our words and our works. 19 Wednesday 17 May 2017 This Week we are thinking about Creation The beauty of a sunset, the majesty of the ocean, the wonder of a newborn baby God s glorious creation is all around us. And we ourselves are part of that creation! Everything we can see, and everything we can t see it all came from God. Lord, grant that we all be protectors of creation, protectors of God s plan inscribed in nature, protectors of one another and of the environment. We ask this through Christ our lord. Hail Mary full of Grace The Lord is with thee Blessed art thou amongst women and Blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. 19 P a g e

Thursday 18 May 2017 This Week we are thinking about Creation God s greatness is seen throughout the earth. When I gaze at the heavens which his fingers formed, and look at the moon and the stars which he set there, I realise how small we are in the majesty of his creation. Lord, our God and king, you treasure us above all that you have made, and you give us control over all of the works of your hand: animals both wild and tame, birds in the air and the creatures of the sea. 22 Monday 22 May 2017 Today is the Feast of St Rita of the immaculate wounded forehead. At an early age Rita begged her parents to allow her to enter a convent. Instead they arranged a marriage for her. Rita became a good wife and mother, but her husband mistreated her. He taught their children his own evil ways. One day her husband was stabbed by an enemy, but before he died he was sorry for his sins because Rita prayed for him. Shortly afterwards her two sons died, and Rita was alone. She spent her time in prayer, penance and good works. She entered the convent of the Augustinian nuns. Sister Rita had a great devotion to the Passion of Christ. Please let me suffer like You, divine Saviour, she said one day, and suddenly one of the thorns from the crucifix struck her on the forehead. It left a deep wound which did not heal and which caused her much suffering for the rest of her life. People pray to St Rita to help them in their family problems because she was a good example of a wife and mother. Oh glorious St. Rita, who miraculously participated in the sorrowful Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ, obtain for me the grace to suffer with resignation the troubles of this life, and protect me in all my needs. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Hail Mary full of Grace The Lord is with thee Blessed art thou amongst women and Blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. 22 P a g e

Tuesday 23 May 2017 In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Help us to be more sensible about how we travel. Give wisdom to those who are in positions of power, so they can do something to help. Stop us polluting the atmosphere even more, just because we are too lazy to think of an alternative. Dirty footmarks spoil the seat on the train. An empty pop can rolls sadly around as the train rattles along. Graffiti splatters the vast grey buildings outside. Bulging dustbins spill their contents on to the grimy streets. Children and dogs play amongst the filth and litter. Lord, help us to clean up our towns and cities. Give people respect for where they live. Help us to do our bit to clean up the world. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Hail Mary full of Grace The Lord is with thee Blessed art thou amongst women and Blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. 23 P a g e

Wednesday 24 May 2017 Today we take time to think about all our students in year 11& 13 who will leave All Saints at the end of this week, only to return for their exams. We wish each and every one of them luck as they take their next path in life and we pray that they achieve the results in their exams to enable them to continue with whatever it is they have chosen to do in the future. Some of the year 11 s will return to us in September to go in to the 6th form but some will go to college, an apprenticeship or in to a job. For those year 13 s going on to University we wish them every success with their studies. We hope that the time they have spent at All Saints has prepared them for the challenges they now face. Lord God, we ask you to be with all our students as they take their next steps on their journey through life. Guide them to make the right choices and to be faithful to you always. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Hail Mary full of Grace The Lord is with thee Blessed art thou amongst women and Blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. 24 P a g e

Thursday 25 May 2017 Today is the Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord Between The Ascension and The Coming of the Holy Spirit, the apostles felt a lot like the way we do sometimes. They knew Jesus was alive, but it wasn't the same as the days when he walked among them and put his hand on their shoulders. They probably wondered just where he was. That still happens, even in our lives. Sometimes in the eyes of someone important to us, we seem like we've "gone away," even though we haven't really or at least don't mean to. Is there someone in your life who needs to know that you're still there for them? But with the coming of the Spirit, the apostles went from weak to strong, from fearful to bold, from hesitant to positive. Afterwards, they weren't afraid to tell the world, "I'm going to follow Jesus!" In our lives, this change usually happens more gradually. It's worth considering how and where the Spirit is asking you to be an upfront, courageous, I'm-pleased-to-stand-up-and-be-counted follower of Jesus. Hail Mary full of Grace The Lord is with thee Blessed art thou amongst women and Blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. 25 P a g e

Friday 26 May 2017 Today 45 students from year 9, 10 & 12 and 5 of our staff travel overnight to Lourdes to join the diocesan annual pilgrimage. We pray that they have a safe journey and are spiritually renewed by their experience in Lourdes and helping others. Let us have a moment or two of silence to prayer for those travelling to Lourdes, that they have a safe pilgrimage and use there week willingly in the service of others. Hail Mary full of Grace The Lord is with thee Blessed art thou amongst women and Blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death 26 P a g e

Monday 5 June 2017 This Week we are thinking about The Feast of Pentecost When the day of Pentecost came they were altogether in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment because each one heard them speaking their own language. Utterly amazed, they asked, Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans? Then how is it that each one of us hears them in his own native language? Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome (both Jews and converts to Judaism; Cretans and Arabs we hear them declaring the wonders of the world on our own tongues! Amazed and perplexed they asked each other, What does this mean? Some, however, made fun of them and said, They have had too much wine. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. 27 P a g e

Tuesday 6 June 2017 In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. This Week we are thinking about The Feast of Pentecost God our Father, Pentecost celebrates the pouring out of the Holy Spirit on the first community of those who really believed that Jesus was risen from the dead. They received the gifts of knowledge, wisdom and understanding and the ability to make balanced judgements all enabling them to convey to others the good news of your overwhelming love and acceptance and forgiveness. So we ask you today God to help us be the people that you want us to be and enable us to fulfil the calling and the mission that you have for each one of us. Lord, You fulfilled the Easter promise by sending us your Holy Spirit. May that Spirit unite the races and nations on earth to proclaim your glory. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. 28 P a g e

Wednesday 7 June 2017 This Week we are thinking about The Feast of Pentecost Holy Spirit, fill our hearts and set us alight with the fire of your love. Let us make good use of your gifts so that we may display love and joy, peace and patience, kindness and faithfulness, gentleness, goodness and self-control. Lord, we ask for the guidance and strength of your Spirit for those uncertain how to use their time, talents and gifts; for those tempted to do what is wrong. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. 29 P a g e

Thursday 8 June 2017 This Week we are thinking about The Feast of Pentecost Father, renew our spirits by your Holy Spirit. Bring us closer to you so that we do your work gladly and do not find loving you a burden but something to be joyful for. Lord, we ask for the energy and vision of your Spirit for those who are tiring in the battle against injustice and oppression: for those exhausted by the struggle with poverty and hunger. We ask this through Christ our lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. 30 P a g e

Friday 9 June 2017 This Week we are thinking about The Feast of Pentecost We ask for the hope and comfort of your Spirit for those whose lives are overshadowed by illness or pain; for those whose lives are darkened by sorrow or bereavement. Lord, we ask for the love and courage of your Spirit for those reaching out to comfort the distressed; for those reaching out to others with the Good News of Christ. We ask this through Christ our lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. 31 P a g e

Monday 12 June 2017 This Week we are Praying for those who don t get an Education Education is the key to a better future, a route out of poverty, and a fundamental human right. In 2000, an estimated 110 million children were missing out on school and by the end of 2013, almost 65 million adolescents between the ages of 12 to 15 years old were denied their right to an education, in addition to 59 million children of primary education that were out of school. Heavenly Father, we think today about all those millions of children who do not get an education. We pray that those with the wealth and power to change this will act fast to ensure all children get the opportunity to build a better future. We ask this through Christ our lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. 32 P a g e

Tuesday 13 June 2017 In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. This Week we are Praying for those who don t get an Education Nelson Mandela said Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. There are many reasons why children are missing out on school. Around 24 million children who are not in school have a disability. Many families cannot afford to pay school fees, or where the school is free, cannot afford the cost of uniforms, books, travel and equipment. For many children, because they live in poverty, they must work to support their families and so do not have time to go to school. Millions of children live in war-torn places, where going to school is not safe, or they have left their homes to escape the fighting; sometimes many miles away from school. Take a moment to appreciate all the opportunities you have just by going to school. Lord, I thank you for the gift of education and I pray that I might use my skills and talents to help change the world in a positive way. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. 33 P a g e

Wednesday 14 June 2017 This Week we are Praying for those who don t get an Education Horce Mann said A Human being is not attaining his or her full heights until they are educated. Massive change needs action on a massive scale, which is why the Send all my friends to school campaign asks young people like yourselves to raise your voices, not just money! Your Member of Parliament (MP) is the first link in a chain of influence all the way from you to the world s leaders, whose decisions will affect whether we can achieve education for all. Help support our campaign by signing the petition for education for all, or writing to your MP, letting them know you feel strongly that all children should have a chance to go to school. Lord God, guide politicians to do the right thing, and push for justice for those who are missing out on school. We ask this through Christ our lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. 34 P a g e

Thursday 15 June 2017 This Week we are Praying for those who don t get an Education Allan Bloom said Education is the movement from darkness to light. Over 10,000 schools and youth groups are already involved in the Send all my friends to school campaign. That s millions of children, just in the UK alone. By helping support the Send all my friends to school campaign, you are becoming part of something really huge, because right around the world, people are also calling for education for all. More than 18 million people in 100 countries have already taken part in campaigning activities. Do something great and add your voice to the millions already demanding education for all! Lord, we pray for the millions of people around the world who are campaigning for education for everyone. We ask that their work may bear fruit, and more children benefit from the gift of education. We ask this through Christ our lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. 35 P a g e

Friday 16 June 2017 This Week we are Praying for those who don t get an Education Meet Tasui. He is an inspirational young man from a place called Kaduna in Nigeria. Tasui has had polio since he was two years old and finds it difficult to walk. Tasui is fifteen now. He helps at home and he shoe-shines and begs in a market. This is to try and earn enough money to go back to school. Tasui had to leave school a few years ago because he wasn t getting the support he needed and it cost too much for him to continue going. Tasui wants to help people with disabilities and make sure they have the right to study like everyone else. A donation of money no matter how small can ensure that children like Tasui get the education they deserve. Lord, I pray for Tasui and all children like him who are fighting hard for the education they deserve. We ask this through Christ our lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. 36 P a g e

Monday 19 June 2017 This Week we are thinking about our attitudes to others Think of someone you admire and write a list of why. Send it to that person and make their day. Showing concern for others is a common way of showing love to one another. We as human beings have a natural connection to others, especially our families. This week we are going to focus on how we can show concern and love for those around us; family, friends, teachers and even strangers. We look to Jesus example to show us how we ought to speak and act. Lord, help me understand why I must show concern for others. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. 37 P a g e

Tuesday 20 June 2017 In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. This Week we are thinking about our attitudes to others Do one small action to help a neighbour The Dalai Lama said Our prime purpose in this life is to help others God commands us to love our neighbours as ourselves. But who is our neighbour? When Jesus was confronted with this question, he responded by telling the parable of the Good Samaritan, which shows us what it means to be a good neighbour: a traveller was severely injured by thieves and left for dead. A priest and a Levite saw him, yet chose not to help. A Samaritan stranger took pity on him and showed mercy. He dressed the injured man s wounds, took him to an inn and paid for his care until he recovered. At the end of the account Jesus said Go, and do you likewise. We have the opportunity to serve just as Jesus asks us too- how will you serve your neighbour today? Lord, help me to be a good neighbour today following the example that Jesus taught us. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. 38 P a g e

Wednesday 21 June 2017 This Week we are thinking about our attitudes to others Examine your own attitude towards others. I don t discriminate, I hate everybody proclaims a bumper sticker reflecting the uncaring attitude and coldness all too evident in the world. As members of God s Church, we must be different. Our lives should be about people. Service to others should be a way of life. This should be reflected in our interaction with society and how we treat those around us. You have been called by God to follow Jesus example of showing genuine concern for fellow human beings Examine yourself. Are you growing in concern for others? Do you have a desire to serve? Do you ask God to help you see how you can help others? We must fight against the unloving attitude that dominates our selfcentred world and follow the perfect example of concern set by Jesus. Lord God, help me to be a shining light in the darkness of this world; by serving others and having genuine concern for all your people. We ask this through Christ our lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. 39 P a g e

Thursday 22 June 2017 This Week we are thinking about our attitudes to others St Augustine said What does love look like? It has the hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men. That is what love looks like. To show true concern for others, we must have an attitude of compassion. Compassion is to have genuine care and understanding toward the distress of others. Compassion demands action and words. Jesus is the ultimate example of concern for us. The concern we show to others is an extension of God s love. To develop this love, we must adjust our attitudes so that we have a genuine concern for all mankind. Where should we begin? Lord, help us to forget our past mistakes and to take full advantage of the present. We ask this through Christ our lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. 40 P a g e

Friday 23 June 2017 This Week we are thinking about our attitudes to others A person reveals true humility by showing the gentleness of Christ, by being always ready to help others, by speaking kind words and performing unselfish acts. The first priority after learning of the needs of another is to ask for God s help in prayer. God has the solution to every problem and the greatest understanding of everyone s hardship. God has the power to fulfil any need. When we, as a concerned friend, go to God with the needs of another, we are serving that person. Taking time to pray for somebody else is a way that we can lay down our life for a friend. By petitioning God for the well-being of another we fulfil the second great commandment: to love one another. Never underestimate the effect you could have on another just by praying for them. Do you take as much time for others in prayer as you do for yourself? Lord, be the guiding light in our lives as we develop and change. We ask this through Christ our lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. 41 P a g e

Monday 26 June 2017 This Week we are thinking about the Environment Mahatma Ghandi said - You must be the change you wish to see in the world. The saying eco-friendly literally means being earth friendly. This term commonly refers to practices that help to conserve natural resources like water and energy. Eco-friendly also means to help prevent pollution to air, water and land. You can engage in eco-friendly habits by being more conscious of how you use resources. Think of one way you can be eco-friendly today- pick up litter, recycle what you can, turn off the lights and turn electrical appliances off at the plug. Lord, help us to be good stewards of our world. Help us to act now for the good of future generations and all your creatures. Help us to become instruments of a new creation, founded on the covenant of your love. We ask this through Christ our lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. 42 P a g e

Tuesday 27 June 2017 In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. This Week we are thinking about the Environment How often do you go to the tap for water to find nothing comes out? Today every time you have a drink or fill a bottle think about those for whom this is not a possibility. The United Nations remind us how critical water is in the battle against poverty and hunger-it is indispensable for human health and well-being. We have the ability to provide clean water for every man, woman and child on the Earth. What has been lacking is the collective will to accomplish this. What are we waiting for? This is the commitment we need to make to the world, now. Make a commitment to use less water-and stick to it! May God open the heavens and let His mercy rain down upon our fields and mountains. Let us especially pray for those most impacted by water shortages and for the wisdom and charity to be good stewards of this precious gift. May our political leaders seek the common good as we learn to care and share God's gift of water for the good of all. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. 43 P a g e

Wednesday 28 June 2017 This Week we are thinking about the Environment If humans went away, the environment would look after itself! The problem is that everything we do has some impact on the environment. For the environment as a whole, we need to use less energy, use less water and still have enough houses, food and clothes for everyone living on planet earth. Making sure you don t waste things can help cut down on environmental damage. For example you can cut down your food waste by buying less, avoid changing electric equipment like phones and TV s unless necessary, avoid excess packaging and take your own bag when you go shopping. All these actions make a big impact on the environment! Heavenly Father, help us to be better stewards of our world by cutting down on waste and acting in a way that protects the environment. We ask this through Christ our lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. 44 P a g e

Thursday 29 June 2017 This Week we are thinking about the Environment Anne Frank said - How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world. The issue of climate change is one that we ignore at our own peril. There may still be disputes about exactly how much we re contributing to the warming of the earth s atmosphere and how much is naturally occurring, but what we can be scientifically certain of is that our continued use of fossil fuels is pushing us to a point of no return. And unless we free ourselves from a dependence on these fossil fuels and chart a new course of energy in this country, we are condemning future generations to global catastrophe. How can we use less electricity, petrol and gas central heating to protect our world? Heavenly Father, help us to think unselfishly about our world, and give us the resolve to change our dependence on the worlds resources. We ask this through Christ our lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. 45 P a g e

Friday 30 June 2017 This Week we are thinking about the Environment One person can make all the difference in the world. For the first time in recorded human history, we have the fate of the whole planet in our hands. Do you buy your produce from a supermarket? If so, there s a good chance that your food has lost up to 45% of its original nutrients. As soon as produce is harvested, it starts losing nutrients. Since the average vegetable sits for 7 days from the farm to the supermarket shelf, those fresh fruit and veg have lost almost half of their original nutritional value! Make a change by pledging to buy local produce. Not only will you be healthier, but you reduce the amount of carbon emissions needed to transport your produce from farm to plate. Lord, help us be the change we want to see in the world. We ask this through Christ our lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. 46 P a g e

Monday 3 July 2017 This Week we are thinking about the consequences of our actions Think carefully before you speak. St Francis Of Assisi said - Preach the Gospel at all times, and when necessary, use words. St Francis of Assisi is said to have uttered the words, "Preach the Gospel, and if necessary use words". What do you think this means? It can most definitely mean that actions speak louder than words; because people will come to know who we really are by the way we act and show our love for one another. If you go out of your way to help others, people will know you are a caring person, after all anyone can say they care but do they truly show it by their actions! So, how might we find out for ourselves who we really are and who we ought to be? Have you ever thought about this? Are you the person the media tells you to be? Are you the person your friends tell you to be? Are you the person you think your peers want you to be? Or, are you the person you were created to be by God, who loves you, which still involves you being your best? Lord, help me to preach the gospel, and if necessary use words. Help me to be a good example to those around me. 47 P a g e

Tuesday 4 July 2017 In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. This Week we are thinking about the consequences of our actions Think about a time when you have tried your best. At the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, one of Britain's athletes, Derek Redmond, was running in the semi-final of the 400 metres race when he collapsed with a torn hamstring. Medical people ran towards him, but Redmond struggled to his feet and started hopping on one leg. He was determined to finish the race, even though he was in great pain and the other runners had passed the finishing line. As he got a few metres down the track a man came out of the stands to help him. It was Jim Redmond, Derek's Father. With his arm around his father's neck, Derek hopped around the rest of his lane and crossed the finishing line. By this time the people in the crowd were on their feet, clapping for the courage and the spirit both of Derek and his father. Heavenly Father, with the help of the Holy Spirit may I always have the courage and spirit to strive for my best, no matter how bad the circumstances. 48 P a g e

Wednesday 5 July 2017 This Week we are thinking about the consequences of our actions Humility and obedience can be misunderstood and thought to be signs of weakness this is so often what the world around us would have us believe. Peer pressure would have us do what the crowd does and not what we know, in our hearts, to be true and good. It is the voice of God deep in our hearts which is true and good genuine happiness and fulfilment can only be found in being obedient to the voice of God in the silence of our hearts. St Benedict encouraged his monks, and so all Christians, to make time to be silent even for just a few moments every day. This can be a huge challenge but, if we form the habit of being silent for a few moments and in that silence being open to Jesus our guide we will soon discover the real me. Lord, give me the courage to make time for silence every day. Give me the courage to be still there in this silence and to say to you, speak, Lord, your servant is listening. Help me to be the person you call me to be. 49 P a g e

Thursday 6 July 2017 This Week we are thinking about the consequences of our actions Blessed Oscar Romero said - Beautiful is the moment in which we understand that we are no more than an instrument of God; we live only as long as God wants us to live; we can only do as much as God makes us able to do; we are only as intelligent as God would have us be. Heavenly Father, I pray for the courage to stand up for what is right by giving a voice to those who have no voice, following the example of Oscar Romero. 50 P a g e

Friday 7 July 2017 This Week we are thinking about the consequences of our actions St Teresa Of Calcutta said - Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier. St Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity, a Roman Catholic religious congregation, which in 2012 consisted of over 4,500 sisters and is active in 133 countries. They run hospices and homes for people with HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis; soup kitchens; dispensaries and mobile clinics; children's and family counselling programmes; orphanages; and schools. Members of the order must adhere to the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience, and the fourth vow, to give "wholehearted free service to the poorest of the poor". Lord, I pray for those who are suffering and for those working to bring comfort to them. 51 P a g e

Monday 10 July 2017 Yesterday it was 33 years since the famous fire in York Minster, during which the roof of the South Transept was destroyed and 2.25m of damage was done. Explanations for the fire ranged from UFOs to divine retribution, but it was eventually confirmed that lightning was the most likely cause! Today let s remember to appreciate the privilege of having such an impressive, holy place of prayer in our city, and thank God that as a school we can join the thousands of people through the centuries who have used the Minster as a place of worship. Let us Pray: Lord God, We thank you for the good relationship that All Saints enjoys with the Minster. Bless those who work and worship there, and help us never to take such privileges for granted. 52 P a g e

Tuesday 11 July 2017 In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. 21 years ago this week from the 10th to the 12th, President Nelson Mandela - the first democraticallyelected President of multi-racial South Africa - made a State Visit to Britain. Anyone who makes a State Visit is met by government officials and by the Queen, and banquets are given in that person s honour. In South Africa s days of apartheid the separation of people according to colour - Nelson Mandela spent many years in prison. After his release and his election, he found himself with very little time for himself. He spoke these words: Although it was a tragedy to spend 27 years in prison, one of the advantages was the ability to sit down and think. This is one of the things I miss most. Lord, I want to be responsible for my own life, and I want to make positive choices each day. Inspire me to get my priorities right and be generous in my care and concern for others. In busy days and casual days remind me, too, of my basic human need for personal time and quiet and space, and lead me to respect the personal needs that others also have. 53 P a g e

Wednesday 12 July 2017 As we near the end of term many of you will be receiving your end of year reports, some will be very good and some will not be so good, but remember there is always time to change. On this day in history one of Winston Churchill s teachers wrote on his reports He is forgetful, careless, unpunctual, irregular in every way If he is unable to conquer this slovenliness he will never make a success Some people tend only to judge others and criticise them, never seeing anything positive in them. St Teresa of Calcutta said: If you judge people, you have no time to love them. Lord, I ask that you inspire me always to do my best - not comparing myself with others, but only with myself. Lead me, Lord, to discover and use my own talents to the full. May I live in such a way that I help others to experience success, as well as praising them for the good use of their abilities - looking not so much at the degree of achievement but at the effort put in. Stop me from judging people or jumping to conclusions about them, but lead me to respect and accept others for who they are, focussing on the positive rather than the negative. 54 P a g e
