Healthy, Ohio Chili Fest 2018 There are still tickets available. Call or for tickets. Tickets are $30.00 each and admit two adults for a chili dinner, drinks and a chance in the reverse raffle. Contestants, get your chili recipe cooking to enter for the chili cook-off contest. There are two categories Hot & Mild. To enter, please call Janet Baked goods are needed for the cake walk. Any kind of baked goods such as cakes, cookies, brownies or pies would be appreciated. You can even buy the items to donate. Please drop off your donations at the Parish Center either Friday, March 23rd after 6:00 P.M. or Saturday, March 24th after 11:00 A.M. Legion Fish Fry The Legion Fish Fry is every Friday in Lent from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m Hamilton Ave. Yearly Tax Statements If you would like your tax statement, please call or the parish office and we will mail you your statement. 3 As Catholics we are called to prayer, penance, sacrifice, and good works in preparation for the celebration of Easter. Many of us find it hard to truly enter into the spirit of Lent and the prayers of Lent because of so many distractions in our lives these days. However, the music of Lent makes that challenge so much easier. On Wednesday evening, March 21st, we will pray and sing the liturgy of the hours at 7:00 pm here at Assumption. This is a time that the choir plans for its own prayer, so the music chosen will be prayerful and touching. Take a moment from your busy life and your packed schedule to pray with us this beautiful evening of Lent. Even though it is called the Liturgy of the Hours, it will last less than 45 minutes, so please plan to bring your families and friends with you. Mark this on your calendar now: Wednesday, March 21st, 7:00 pm, Lenten Evensong at Assumption. Seniors Trip Join the Seniors for a day at Belterra Park on Wednesday, March 21 st. The trip leaves Kolping Center at 9:15 A.M. and returns at 4:00 P.M. Cost is $25.00 per person. Contact Doris Wilke at for more info. Bulletin Reflections Each week, the bulletin has featured a reflection, questions, and thoughts from Pope Francis regarding that Sunday s readings. If you missed a reflection, previous weeks reflections can be found on Assumption s website by clicking on the Sacraments & Religious Ed button at the top of the page. Sacramental Prep Classes Classes continue for the 2017/2018 Sacrament prep year. Your perseverance in prayer for them all as they prepare to enter more fully into the great mystery of God is greatly appreciated and needed. RCIA Our doors are always open to those interested in becoming Catholic! 5 Catholic Schools Week The festivities for Catholic Schools Week began with a successful Open House. Prospective families, current families, and alumni were able to tour the school, visit the teachers, and see the artwork and other activities the students have done. Visitors were also able to shop at the annual Book Fair. On Monday the students showed their school spirit by wearing all blue including hats, wigs, jewelry, ribbons, scarves, etc., to show they are proud to be an Eagle. On Tuesday they participated in an all school Mass and on Wednesday the students prayed for peace in the classroom and in the world throughout the day. Thursday was Student Appreciation Day so there was an out-of-uniform day and an hourly Principal s Prize Lottery. The students also enjoyed playing Bingo and had a special ice cream treat provided by PTO. On Friday students showed their many talents by participating in the annual Talent Show. There was singing, dancing, and other unique acts. The audience was treated to a great play and the kids did a wonderful job. Everyone had a great time. The Soarin Christmas concert held at Assumption on December 17 th put the audience in the holiday spirit with their beautiful renditions of holiday music. Mark your calendar for the Drama Club s presentation of Beauty and the Beast, Jr. on May 4 th and 5 th at Little Flower (7:30 p.m.). The actors and actresses have already started practicing for this spring musical. Come and watch the amazing talent at OLG. Christian Service The first grade again, visited Mt. Healthy Christian Village for Valentine s Day. The students sang to the residents and also helped blow up balloons for the resident s party. The residents really enjoy the children and the children love to visit with the residents. As reported in the last newsletter, $1006 was raised for the Matthew 25 Ministries for the Christian Service Days. The December, January, and February collections will be donated to the Pray, Hope, Believe Foundation. Mrs. Merk gave presentations to the students explaining that the Foundation supports children and teens battling cancer and also helps fund pediatric brain cancer research. The March, April, and May Christian Service Day collections will be donated to St. Vincent de Paul of the four covenant parishes. This year, K-8 students sent cards to over 103 shut-ins and over 300 nursing home residents to help brighten their holiday. The Living Stations will be held on March 26 th during the school day. More information will be coming home at a later date. Special Person Days April 18th will be the Special Person Day for Grades 1 3. There will be a prayer service and then the visitors will be able to visit the classrooms and enjoy refreshments. On April 25 th the Kindergarteners will enjoy having their visitors watch their prayer service and then play Bingo. More information will be coming home a later date. Fish Fry OLG Athletics will have a Fish Fry at St. Ann Parish on March 2nd, 9th, 16th, and 23rd. There will be dine in or carry out. The menu is: Fried or Baked Fish, Fried Shrimp, Salted Rye from NCH Bakery, Pizza, Mac-n-Cheese, Potato Wedges, Hush Puppies, Green Beans. There is also a weekly bake sale hosted by various OLG youth programs. 5

6 Assumption Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de was busy throughout We had requests for help from 669 families which amounts to 1713 people. There were: 52 requests for furniture, 46 requests for beds, 62 food deliveries, 256 requests for financial aid (utility bills, rent, and medical assistance) and 385 requests for clothing vouchers were collected for the Mt. Healthy Alliance Food Pantry. During 2017, our parish provided an average of 16.5 volunteers a month for the pantry. 4,309 volunteer hours were logged and the volunteers traveled approximately 2800 miles. We provided two Community meals at Trinity Lutheran Church for a total of 140 people. Our conference hosted a bundle weekend in March and October collecting items for the St. Vincent de Paul Stores. The Santa Angel Project collected gifts for 317 children. Looking to the Future - Opportunities to Help Your Neighbor: March 3rd and 4th we will have the St. Vincent de Paul truck collecting useable items you are willing to share with your neighbors. Volunteers are needed from 3:30 to 5 on Saturday March 3rd and 8:30 12 on Sunday March 4th. The truck is also scheduled for October 6th and 7th. We have scheduled a meal for October 4th. Thank you for helping to make this possible through your poor box donations, 5th Sunday collections, and restock weekends. It is through your support that the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is able to aid those in need. If you are interested in joining us in our work making home visits or volunteering for Bundle Weekends, Community Meals, or joining the pantry volunteers, please contact the rectory. We meet the 4th Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the St. Vincent de Paul Room. With Christian love, our mission is to aid struggling families in the communities with food, personal care items, and resources for other basic needs. The pantry has been very busy this year. The information below will help to tell the pantry story from January to December Total Families Served - 5,407, People Served - 15,184, Average Number of Volunteer Hours - 13,727.71, Senior Boxes Distributed - 1,539, Metro Tickets Distributed None of this would be possible if it were not for the efforts of all those who volunteer and those who donate items to the pantry. We average 450 families a month. Items we distribute come from free store and retail purchased, and donations from businesses, churches, food drives, and individuals. We were invited to participate in the Holiday Meijer Simply Give Campaign. The Meijer company donated a total of $32,000 in match and double match programs. In store donations provided another $16,500. The total Meijer food gift cards was $48,500. This was the most successful campaign thus far for our pantry. Thank you to all those who donated to this program. On Memorial Day, pantry supporters will be walking in the Hunger Walk to earn credits at the free store. We humbly thank you for your past support and we ask that you continue your financial donations as well as restock weekend donations. How you can help: The pantry especially needs: toilet paper, hygiene, and cleaning items as well as non-perishable food items. During the months of February and March we are targeting spring cleaning items. These items cannot be purchased with food stamps. In May and June we are asking for sunscreen donations. Items may be brought to the pantry during our regular pantry hours: Monday 11-1, Tuesday 5-7, Thursday 9-12, Saturday 9-12 or they may be dropped off in the St. Vincent de Paul Box in the school hall. We are also in need of volunteers to help pick up items, stock items and help shoppers select their food. We also need packers and people to carry out packages to our guests cars.
