1 Angel Joy: The Sequel Drama for Christmas Inspired by Luke 15:7 and the link made with the Christmas angels by William Gurnall in The Christian in Complete Armour - There is joy in heaven at the conversion of a sinner. Heaven soon rings of this. The angels that sang Christ into the world, will not want [lack] a song when he is received into thy heart; for he came into the world for this end. - and the doctrine of the Trinity! On stage are the Angels trumpeters/vocalist, suitably dressed and with instruments. Also clearly visible is a large Book with LUKE S GOSPEL PRE-PUBLICATION COPY FOR ANGELS ONLY on cover. Angels: Parts A,B & C where A must be a trumpeter; C must be a vocalist; and B can be either (preferably trumpet/wind). Script can be on music stands! Angels are just finishing their celebrations. Enter Angel trumpeters & vocalist play/sing chorus of Angels from the realms of glory, or Hallelujah Chorus, or Glory to God from Messiah A. That was brilliant wasn t it! B. Yes we ve followed the instructions in the Book:- Great company of the heavenly host praise God Chapter 2 v.13! C. Yes, here it is, here s the book. [wave it] Gospel of Luke. Pre-Publication Copy for Angels Only. In small print it says: This book is top secret until it gets written in AD 70 ] B. But then it says, but important for Angels so you can prepare for your bits in time! C. Yes, it s come in handy, hasn t it? A. My, I haven t used my trumpet like that for a long time! B. I know its funny isn t it we ve all been around for billions of years but the Boss C. Bosses B. Well that depends exactly how you define it. You see the Boss is both One and Three A. All right, all right, we ve been through all this before, and it s absolutely amazing, but let s keep to the point! B. Well it s quite relevant actually because the One in Three, or Three in One have always seemed determined for OTHERS to be welcomed in to join in the party 1

2 C. Well, They ve He s, He s/ stroke She s, (as we didn t have he and she until creation but let s not get side-tracked by that one) got US, haven t they? At least, the ones who didn t rebel with Lucifer & get thrown out of heaven! A. Funny thing that, but there was always that IMAGE thing they kept going on about. B. Yes, They (He) always wanted IMAGE things. Things a little bit like Them, except they d be little of course and have bodies etc but they d be able to love God in a special way apparently. Something about having to choose, and being free to love or not love. That kind of thing! A. I know. So the whole building project got into action! First a Universe then a World C. O yes, I remember that, we had a brilliant part then didn t we? where were you when I laid the earth s foundation while the morning stars sang together and all the angels of God sang for joy? [C, add quick burst of sung praise if you like!] They ve got that in the book now Job 38 v.7 A. Is that a pre-publication copy too? C. No, Job s been out at least 500 years now! A AS I WAS SAYING, the Building Project: First a Universe then a World, then Plants and Animals then People! B. Yes, the Image things! Those were the Others the Boss/Bosses wanted to welcome into the party. Made in God s image to know and love and have relationships with God and with each other. A. Amazing really! C. Yes, we thought we d be getting quite a bit of help from them in the praise and adoration departments. A. In fact, when they the image things people - came along they really blew it didn t they?! Adam and Eve and all that! One command - One bad choice One bit of fruit bitten and zap! bang! It was all over! B. Yes, well, sort of. Except The Boss/Bosses seemed determined for it NOT to be all over. C. [slowly and profoundly] So all the rules in heaven got changed! A. We were told to put our trumpets away because from now on, all the focus was on what He/They were going to do to sort this mess out. C. I bet the Bosses knew from day one They always do! 2

3 B. I bet They knew before that, I bet They knew from the very beginning A. Excuse me, there wasn t actually any beginning? B. OK, well from whenever that was then, before anything. Before the foundation of the earth anyway and that sort of thing. A. And we ve been waiting all this time until the amazing happened B. Yes TODAY C. Yes 10 MINUTES AGO! JESUS WAS BORN right into the world God s new plan going into action at last A. Two out of One in heaven, and One out of One (or was it Three?) on earth! B. Or was it, One out of Three in heaven, and Two out of One on earth? A. You re going a bit fast there, isn t that Pentecost? B. Haven t you read that earlier bit about the Holy Spirit came down like a dove? C. ANYWAY, Jesus was born. C. And we got the contract to announce the news! Well, Gabriel did. With us helping in the effects department! A. You should have seen those shepherds faces! we gave them such a blast, and you were brilliant on the Hallelujahs as well C. Thanks, it was nothing really.! Just a few million years of practising A. But WHEN IS THE NEXT TIME? B. Yes, I want to know that. C. OK, here s the book. [hold up/open Gospel of Luke ] There s a heading here it says: Birth of Jesus the Sequel A. Let me guess the Resurrection? I know some angels are booked for the empty tomb! B. Yes, but not us from the Music Department! C. The Ascension? Don t two of us have to go and tell the disciples looking up to heaven, Don t worry. He s coming back! B. Not Music Department again! C. Got it! When Jesus returns in glory with his holy angels! A. Brilliant! And the trumpet shall sound 3

4 [trumpeter(s) give blast of few bars of The trumpet shall sound from Handel s Messiah] B. [looking at Luke book] No, no, no! We re all wrong. The next mention in Luke is here: Luke 15 v.7: I tell you that there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over 99 righteous persons who need no repentance. C. In heaven? That s us then, right? A. Right! B. You mean that every time one of those people. C. Human beings A. The ones the Boss B. Bosses A. Made in his/their own image C. NB! NB! NB! The image Jesus also took on when He was born into the world. B. You mean that every time one of those people turns back to God in repentance and faith A. Because of what Jesus this baby is going to do B. There is going to be the most amazing rejoicing C. It s going to be LIKE CHRISTMAS every time! A. (&B if trumpeter) We re going to be playing [play a few bars of Handel Messiah Hallelujah chorus] C. We re going to be singing [pick up on Hallelujah chorus] A. We re really going to be blowing these things B. I can t wait for the next time! C. another burst of sung Hallelujah A. So let s get ready (trumpets to mouths) C. It s over to those guys now B. Yes. He did not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance I tell you there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over 99 righteous persons who need no repentance. 4

5 A. That s the reason C. for the season! B. I hope they all join the celebration! A,B,C. WE CAN T WAIT! [end in pose of playing/exaggerated singing, but silence] 5
