Hebrews 15:16 (NIV) In the aftermath of the devastation and disruption of life that Hurricane Harvey has brought upon the city of Houston, Texas, we are standing ready to assist our brothers and sisters of this city. Beginning today, Sunday, September 10 th through Thursday, September 14 th we will collect the following items that will eventually be sent to the Houston area. Please ensure donated items are specific to the list of items noted below. PSALM 103:1-14 (NRSV) Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name. 2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and do not forget all his benefits 3 who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, 4 who redeems your life from the Pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, 5 who satisfies you with good as long as you live so that your youth is renewed like the eagle s. 6 The Lord works vindication and justice for all who are oppressed. 7 He made known his ways to Moses, his acts to the people of Israel. 8 The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. 9 He will not always accuse, nor will he keep his anger forever. 10 He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. 11 For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far he removes our transgressions from us. 13 As a father has compassion for his children, so the Lord has compassion for those who fear him. 14 For he knows how we were made; he remembers that we are dust. 11:00 A.M ACTS 16:16-31 (CEV) HYMN OF PRAISE/UNISON SCRIPTURES 16 One day on our way to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl. She had a spirit in her that gave her the power to tell the future. By doing this she made a lot of money for her owners. 17 The girl followed Paul and the rest of us and kept yelling, These men are servants of the Most High God! They are telling you how 3

6 Unison Scriptures to be saved. 18 This went on for several days. Finally, Paul got so upset that he turned and said to the spirit, In the name of Jesus Christ, I order you to leave this girl alone! At once the evil spirit left her. 19 When the girl s owners realized that they had lost all chances for making more money, they grabbed Paul and Silas and dragged them into court. 20 They told the officials, These Jews are upsetting our city! 21 They are telling us to do things we Romans are not allowed to do. 22 The crowd joined in the attack on Paul and Silas. Then the officials tore the clothes off the two men and ordered them to be beaten with a whip. 23 After they had been badly beaten, they were put in jail, and the jailer was told to guard them carefully. 24 The jailer did as he was told. He put them deep inside the jail and chained their feet to heavy blocks of wood. 25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing praises to God, while the other prisoners listened. 26 Suddenly a strong earthquake shook the jail to its foundations. The doors opened, and the chains fell from all the prisoners. 27 When the jailer woke up and saw that the doors were open, he thought that the prisoners had escaped. He pulled out his sword and was about to kill himself. 28 But Paul shouted, Don t harm yourself! No one has escaped. 6:00 P.M. MATTHEW 16:21-28 (NKJV) 21 From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day. 22 Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You! 23 But He turned and said to Peter, Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men. 24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works. 28 Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom. 29 The jailer asked for a torch and went into the jail. He was shaking all over as he knelt down in front of Paul and Silas. 30 After he had led them out of the jail, he asked, What must I do to be saved? 31 They replied, Have faith in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved! This is also true for everyone who lives in your home. 4

McCormick Seminary recently collaborated with Dr. Wright and Trinity UCC to create a new Doctor of Ministry program at McCormick named in honor of Dr. Wright, who has lectured at seminaries and universities across the United States and has represented Trinity UCC and the United Church of Christ around the world.
