2 PHILIPPIANS 1:1-11

3 1 This letter is from Paul and Timothy, slaves of Christ Jesus. I am writing to all of God s holy people in Philippi who belong to Christ Jesus, including the church leaders and deacons.

4 2 May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.

5 3 Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God.

6 4 Whenever I pray, I make my requests for all of you with joy,

7 5 for you have been my partners in spreading the Good News about Christ from the time you first heard it until now.

8 6 And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

9 7 So it is right that I should feel as I do about all of you, for you have a special place in my heart.

10 You share with me the special favor of God, both in my imprisonment and in defending and confirming the truth of the Good News.

11 8 God knows how much I love you and long for you with the tender compassion of Christ Jesus.

12 9 I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding.

13 10 For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ s return.

14 11 May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation the righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ[b] for this will bring much glory and praise to God.

18 ACTS 16:14-15 LYDIA S STORY

19 14 One of them was Lydia from Thyatira, a merchant of expensive purple cloth, who worshiped God. As she listened to us, the Lord opened her heart, and she accepted what Paul was saying.

20 15 She and her household were baptized, and she asked us to be her guests. If you agree that I am a true believer in the Lord, she said, come and stay at my home. And she urged us until we agreed.

22 ACTS 16:16-18 SLAVE GIRL S STORY

23 16 One day as we were going down to the place of prayer, we met a slave girl who had a spirit that enabled her to tell the future. She earned a lot of money for her masters by telling fortunes.

24 17 She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, These men are servants of the Most High God, and they have come to tell you how to be saved.

25 18 This went on day after day until Paul got so exasperated that he turned and said to the demon within her, I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And instantly it left her.

27 ACTS 16:26-34 JAILOR S STORY

28 26 Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open, and the chains of every prisoner fell off!

29 27 The jailer woke up to see the prison doors wide open. He assumed the prisoners had escaped, so he drew his sword to kill himself.

30 28 But Paul shouted to him, Stop! Don t kill yourself! We are all here!

31 29 The jailer called for lights and ran to the dungeon and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas.

32 30 Then he brought them out and asked, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

33 31 They replied, Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household.

34 32 And they shared the word of the Lord with him and with all who lived in his household.

35 33 Even at that hour of the night, the jailer cared for them and washed their wounds. Then he and everyone in his household were immediately baptized.

36 34 He brought them into his house and set a meal before them, and he and his entire household rejoiced because they all believed in God.
