2017 Breakout Descriptions Confrontation: How to Do It and Why Your Relationships Need It Angie Shepherd Your friend is walking a treacherous path. Your boss is making unethical decisions. Your spouse is getting on your last nerve. Everyday things happen around us and we make a choice to speak up or stay silent. In this breakout session we will dissect the anatomy of a difficult conversation and answer questions like Is confrontation Biblical? When will speaking up honor the Lord and when is keeping silent the God honoring thing to do? What are the first steps to starting a hard conversation? and Is it possible to remain friends after confrontation? In our culture, confrontation is unavoidable so let s learn together how to have difficult conversations with grace and mercy. Effective Situational Leadership Carmen Halsey Situational leadership is a practical, steadfast approach to leadership that can help transform the ministry of your church. Women are present, but often not connected to the church. What would your community look like if women in your church were both engaged and effective in ministry? The needs of women you are called to influence change, therefore leadership styles need to change. Expect more women to be connected when you become a situational leader. Five Keys to Healthy Working Relationships Between Men and Women Faith Whatley Do you work with men? Are you one of the only females on the team? Have you ever wondered how do I handle this tough situation with my male leader, pastor, or co-worker? Do you know what drives men crazy about women? Faith has worked on male leadership teams for more than 20 years and will share five keys to healthy working relationships between men and women but how to put these principles into practice. Girls Ministry Basics Mary Margaret Collingsworth Teenage girls are facing a tough battle against the culture and they need Godly women to invest in their lives. This breakout will help equip you to both establish and grow a girls ministry in your church as we reach the next generation. Whether you re just getting started or you just love teenage girls, this is for you! Be encouraged and challenged as we discover new ways to reach girls and dialogue about this important ministry.
How to Amplify Mission Among Those You Lead Kathy Litton and Lori McDaniel Discipleship is more than a Bible study and God s mission is more than attaching missional to an event. Leaders who know how to enlarge a mission vision will cultivate a Great Commission ethos among those they lead. Learn how Jesus disrupted his disciple s thinking for one purpose the steadfast, glorious task of His mission. I Want to Write and Speak Angela Thomas-Pharr One thing Angela hears a lot is, "I want to do what you do." To which we usually reply, "Come on! We need you!!" Has God put something in you that the world needs to hear? Do you have a desire to write or speak? If so, join Angela Thomas Pharr as she discusses becoming the messenger God has called you to be. She will share practical advice and candid wisdom for those who desire to write and speak. The Gospel is Better Than Being "True to Yourself" Trevin Wax Surveys show that most Americans (including church-going Christians) believe the purpose of life is to find yourself, be true to yourself, and enjoy life. How do we minister well in this kind of culture? In this session, we will learn how we can challenge this perspective win a way that demonstrates the beauty of the gospel. How to Abide in Christ: Resting and Producing in a Frenetic Culture Kelly Minter Culture is pulling at us in every direction to achieve and accomplish more. We often rely on our own resources and giftings (even in ministry), running ourselves into the ground while losing our passion and joy. Jesus shows us another way. He uses the word abide to describe how we ll accomplish the things He desires us to. It s a life that s simultaneously restful and more productive than our wildest imaginations. If you re tired, striving or weary, come learn from Jesus words about what it means to abide in Him, bearing much fruit that will last. Lead Standing Up and Serve Where You Lead Connia Nelson There are so many opportunities for women to make a difference through influential leadership. Whether in a corporate setting, in church or at home, look for God-inspired, stand up and stand out moments to fiercely lead, invest in others and passionately serve wherever you are. Leading Teenage Girls to Know and Love God's Word Mary Margaret Collingsworth When teenage girls understand the importance of knowing God's Word, it changes everything. The Bible is foundational to our lives, but are we leading girls in a way that they want to know and understand it? Let's talk about some creative ways to engage girls in the Word of God. Leading Well Through Leadership Transitions
Panel: Lauren Sparks (facilitator), Chris Adams, Simone Monroe, Sheila West Transitions are a natural part of life. Whether you are taking on a new role, ending your current role or transitioning in leadership, this panel of experts will share their personal stories and how you can not only finish well, but also hand off leadership to someone else. You'll have the opportunity to ask questions and get advice on how to navigate the next season God has prepared for you. Marriage in a Fish Bowl: Practical Ways Leaders Can Be Teammates In Marriage Dr. Josh & Christi Straub When you lead, many watch your marriage. Sometimes, the pressure can cause us to hide from the painful parts of our marriage pretending things are good, when they re really not. Oftentimes, the fear of judgment, the chaos of kids, or the pressure of busyness divides our marriage. Yet, leaders lead best when their marriage is strong. This workshop is an honest look at the real pressures leaders face in their marriage and provides practical ways we can have a marriage we d wish on our kids and help others do the same. Not Your Mama s Women s Ministry: Learning to Bridge the Generational Gap Merritt Johnston No one would argue that generational differences exist in our culture today, but God is calling each of us to bridge the generational gap and invest in the future of His church. In this session, we will unveil the principles of Titus 2 that give us the direction we need to break down age barriers within our churches and communities. Learn creative ways to engage the hearts and minds of today s young women and how to develop an effective multigenerational women s ministry. Plan Like a Woman, Think Like a Man: Remaining Steadfast in Your Purpose Julie Woodruff Do you find it difficult to plan ministry opportunities that are both engaging and purposeful? Is your ministry purpose clear? This breakout will help you clarify the WHY behind what you do, empowering you to connect your passion to greater purpose. Remaining Steadfast to Finish Well in Ministry Kandi Gallaty If you knew you could regularly hear God's voice, wouldn't you want to? The only way to remain steadfast, healthy, encouraged and refreshed in ministry is by abiding in God's Word. The world around us is in opposition but this opposition leads to opportunity. Kandi will discuss a practical way to daily hear from God through His Word as you lead yourself and others well in ministry. Responding to the Intolerance of the New Tolerance Mary Jo Sharp We live in a confused society in which the truth is exchanged for a lie. One exchange that is affecting Christians is that tolerance is exchanged for intolerance. Who are you to judge and that s hate speech are rampant slogans of our day. In this session, we will look at how Christians can respond to the accusation of intolerance.
Seeking Refuge - Refugee Simulation Kristy Carr Every year millions worldwide are driven from their home by political unrest, war, economic upheaval, and religious persecution. Through this simulation you ll experience the circumstances and conditions faced by the world s more than 65 million displaced people. You ll also learn of ways in which you can make a difference in the lives of refugees. Seven Helpful Ways to Respond to Hard Conversations Lisa-Jo Baker Some of the best and hardest work God calls us to do is to love other people. And, being human means we are going to bump into other human beings throughout the day. In order to love and lead well, we need to be prepared for when we disagree with others, even when what they share is hard to hear. We need to learn to be listeners with hands open rather than palms clenched in tight, frustrated fists. Leaders need to work hard at listening well and even harder at responding with compassion and kindness. Lisa will share seven things she has learned (and is still learning) about responding with love in the thick of hard conversations. Stand (for Ministry Wives Only) Diane Nix Ministry life at its best can be unpredictable and at its worst brutal. Whether victories come or defeat seems imminent, a ministry wife who learns to stand will come through strong. When hot winds of discouragement blow in your face and take your breath, how do you stand? When it feels as if the walls of your glass house have been shattered, how do you stand? When those whom you have served and loved betray you and turn their backs on you, to whom do you confide and how do you stand? Join Diane in an honest conversation as to what it takes to STAND and stand firm. Stay True to Reaching the Lost and Unengaged Rachel Lovingood Jesus told us to love our neighbor as ourself, yet so often in this world and in the church we struggle to engage with those who are not part of our fellowship. If we really want to reach them with the Gospel, we must be intentional about it. Learn practical tips you can use and lead others to use that will enable you to connect with the lost and unchurched around you for the sake of the Gospel. Ten Differences Between a Boss and a Leader Eric Geiger Not all bosses are leaders and not all leaders are bosses. In this breakout we will learn the difference between the two and seek to serve and influence the people in our lives more like a leader and less like a boss. Theology for Every Woman Panel: Kim Whitten (facilitator), Dr. Terri Stovall, Dr. Rhonda Kelley, Dr. Alicia Wong
You may not consider yourself a Biblical scholar, but most ministry leaders desire to handle scripture well. Why is theology important to your leadership? Should it be important? This breakout will be a panel discussion of women who are seminary leaders ready to answer your questions and help you understand that good theology is for every woman. Social Media for the Glory of God Gretchen Saffles Social media can be both a beautiful platform to share Christ as well as a destructive tool of the enemy to tear us down and trip us up. It can steal precious time or it can encourage us with truth. As believers, we have the upper-hand in this fight. Through sharing life-giving words and images, we can show the world that steadfast love for Christ is not only possible, but is the way to abundant life. In this session, we will discuss how we can use social as a ministry tool for sharing the Gospel as well as why social media is a mission field we can use every day right where we are. The Steadfast Heart Angela Cottrell When we come to Christ at salvation, we receive His spirit; but our hearts are still in need of renewal. Your heart (or soul) is that hidden inner person, made of mind, will, and emotions. Often the thing hindering us in our outer life has its roots in the inner life. Jesus wants to restore our souls. I pray you leave our class changed, confidently armed with new keys to walk out your journey with Christ, experiencing the soul-rest and heart restoration that He alone gives. The Unchanging Providence and Process of Publishing Jennifer Lyell Publishing began as a means by which a ministry message could be spread further than one person could personally deliver it. That's always been the heart of publishing, but is it the reality today? And how do you know whether publishing is a means to spreading the ministry message God has given you? These are questions Jennifer Lyell has seen walked out in the lives of the hundreds of authors. It s her hope that you'll come to this session for the answers you think you need and leave with questions you can start asking God. Unwavering Influence in Crisis Reagan Croyle Phillips In a world full of brokenness, crisis finds us all. We as women have unique, God-given gifts to bring steadfast clarity and unwavering strength into crisis moments. Our children, husbands, and ministry positions are counting on us to walk with the strength of the Lion and the gentleness of the Lamb. What It Means to be a Leader Worth Following Amy Norton Most of the time in life, we pinball our way through, instead of being intentional. The results of accidental living usually have inconsistent outcomes. To be an influential leader others want to follow, we have to be intentional and consistent. And bottom line, that's what leadership really
is--having influence, and being someone people choose to follow, versus have to follow. In this breakout session, we ll talk about why being intentional and not accidental is important, and you'll learn some practical tools you can apply immediately in every circle of your life. Witnessing in the Marketplace Robin Marsh We all have a sphere of influence whether we realize it or not no matter where you are serving. With her humor, heart, and head knowledge, long-time television news anchor, Robin Marsh, will help you look at the people you encounter with purpose and with compassion as you share your faith everywhere you go.
