2 Our Order of Worship About our Worship Service This worship service is called The Service of e Word. It focuses our attention on e proclamation of God s Word. Believers respond to is divine gift wi prayer, praise, and anksgiving. The service is printed out along wi e music for e songs of e liturgy on page 38 and following in e hymnal. Difficulty Hearing? Please ask an usher for a personal Telex Sound Enhancement receiver. Difficulty Reading? Please ask an usher for a large print worship folder. M: Minister; W: Worshipers Ringing of e Bell WE PREPARE TO WORSHIP OUR LORD Hymn: [484] Broers, Sisters, Let Us Gladly Invocation Minister: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and e love of God and e fellowship of e Holy Spirit be wi you. Worshipers: And also wi you. Worshipers stand. Today s Worship Theme: Wi God Our Days Are Numbered Aright Confession of Sin and Assurance of Forgiveness M: We have come into e presence of God, who created us to love and serve him as his dear children. But we have disobeyed him and deserve only his wra and punishment. Therefore, let us confess our sins to him and plead for his mercy. All: Merciful Faer in heaven, I am altogeer sinful from bir. In countless ways I have sinned against you and do not deserve to be called your child. But trusting in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt. M: God, our heavenly Faer, has forgiven all your sins. By e perfect life and innocent dea of our Lord Jesus Christ, he has removed your guilt forever. You are his own dear child. May God give you streng to live according to his will. W: Amen.

3 WE WELCOME OUR LORD Hymn of Praise M: In e peace of forgiveness, let us praise e Lord. For musical accompaniment see Christian Worship, p. 39 All [sing]: Oh, taste and see at e Lord is good. Blessed are ey who take refuge in him. Women: Your Word, O Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in e heavens. Men: Your faifulness continues forever. All: Oh, taste and see at e Lord is good. Blessed are ey who take refuge in him. Prayer of e Day M: Grant, O merciful Lord, to your faiful people pardon and peace at ey may be cleansed from all of eir sins and serve you wi a quiet mind; rough Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns wi you and e Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. W [sing]: Amen. Worshipers sit. Scripture Readings OUR LORD SPEAKS TO US The First Lesson: Psalm 90 2 M : Lord, you have been our dwelling place roughout all generations. Before e mountains were born or you brought for e ear and e world, from everlasting to everlasting you 3 are God. You turn men back to dust, saying, Return to dust, O sons of men. 4 For a ousand years in your sight are like a day at has just gone by, or like a watch in 5 e night. You sweep men away in e sleep of dea; ey are like e new grass of e 6 7 morning ough in e morning it springs up new, by evening it is dry and wiered. We 8 are consumed by your anger and terrified by your indignation. You have set our iniquities 9 before you, our secret sins in e light of your presence. All our days pass away under your 10 wra; we finish our years wi a moan. The leng of our days is seventy years or eighty, if we have e streng; yet eir span is but trouble and sorrow, for ey quickly pass, and we 11 fly away. Who knows e power of your anger? For your wra is as great as e fear at is due you. Teach us to number our days aright, at we may gain a heart of wisdom. Relent, 14 O LORD! How long will it be? Have compassion on your servants. Satisfy us in e 15 morning wi your unfailing love, at we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen trouble May your deeds be shown to your servants, your splendor to eir children. May e favor of e Lord our God rest upon us; establish e work of our hands for us yes, establish e work of our hands. This is e Word of our Lord.

Psalm of e Day: Psalm 139b Worshipers sing e entire psalm. This psalm is printed out on page 117 in e hymnal. Refrain sung: W: I will praise you, O Lord, for I am wonderfully made. Psalm sung: W: O Lord, you created my inmost `being;* you knit me togeer in my `moer s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonder`fully made;* your works are wonderful, I know at `full well. My frame was not hidden `from you;* your eyes saw my unformed `body. Refrain. Psalm sung: W: All e days or`dained for me* were written in your book before one of em `came to be. How precious to me are your `oughts, O God!* How vast is e `sum of em! Were I to` count em,* ey would outnumber e `grains of sand. Glory be to e Faer and `to e Son* and to e Holy `Spirit,* As it was in e be`ginning,* is now, and will be forever. `Amen. Refrain. Children s Message (Sunday only) The Second Lesson: Ephesians 5:21-6:4. 22 M: Submit to one anoer out of reverence for Christ. Wives, submit to your husbands as to e 23 Lord. For e husband is e head of e wife as Christ is e head of e church, his body, 24 of which he is e Savior. Now as e church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit 25 to eir husbands in everying. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved e church 26 and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by e washing wi water 27 rough e word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, wiout stain or wrinkle 28 or any oer blemish, but holy and blameless. In is same way, husbands ought to love 29 eir wives as eir own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever 30 hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does e church for we are 31 members of his body. For is reason a man will leave his faer and moer and be united 32 to his wife, and e two will become one flesh. This is a profound mystery but I am 33 talking about Christ and e church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and e wife must respect her husband. 6:1 2 Children, obey your parents in e Lord, for is is right. Honor your faer and 3 moer which is e first commandment wi a promise at it may go well wi you and 4 at you may enjoy long life on e ear. Faers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring em up in e training and instruction of e Lord. This is e Word of our Lord. 4

5 THE VERSE W [sing]: Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! These words are written at we may believe at Jesus is e Christ, e Son of God. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Gospel Lesson: Mark 10:2-16 Worshipers stand. M: Some Pharisees came and tested him by asking, Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife? 3 What did Moses command you? he replied. 4 They said, Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away. 5 It was because your hearts were hard at Moses wrote you is law, Jesus replied. 6 7 But at e beginning of creation God made em male and female. For is reason a 8 man will leave his faer and moer and be united to his wife, and e two will become one 9 flesh. So ey are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined togeer, let man not separate When ey were in e house again, e disciples asked Jesus about is. He answered, Anyone who divorces his wife and marries anoer woman commits adultery 12 against her. And if she divorces her husband and marries anoer man, she commits adultery. 13 People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch em, but e disciples 14 rebuked em. When Jesus saw is, he was indignant. He said to em, Let e little children come to me, and do not hinder em, for e kingdom of God belongs to such as 15 ese. I tell you e tru, anyone who will not receive e kingdom of God like a little child 16 will never enter it. And he took e children in his arms, put his hands on em and blessed em. This is e Gospel of our Lord. W [sing]: Praise be to you, O Christ! Worshipers sit. Hymn of e Day: [210] Who Knows When Dea Worshipers remain seated. Message THEME: Wi God Our Days Are Numbered Aright TEXT: Psalm 90 [Printed above.] Prayer for e Lord s Blessing on e Message W [speak]: Lord, open now my heart to hear, And rough your Word to me draw near. Let me your Word e er pure retain; Let me your child and heir remain. Amen. CW 282:1

Confession of Fai: The Apostles Creed Worshipers stand following e Message. All: I believe in God, e Faer Almighty, maker of heaven and ear. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by e Holy Spirit, born of e virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The ird day he rose again from e dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at e right hand of God e Faer Almighty. From ere he will come to judge e living and e dead.
