Our Vision The International School of Ministry (ISOM) helps churches to become a Training Center of Ministry for Christians in the language of the people. For this purpose Good Shepherd Ministries International (isom.org) develops training programs to train Christians in all aspects of ministry where they live. Our passion ist to help disciple Christians in all nations of Europe to teach them to obey everything Christ commanded us (Matthew 28:18-20). You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others! (2. Timothy 2:1-2) Table of Contents Page 1. 2 Dear Pastor, dear Leader, Leader Handbook ISOM Bible School Introduction this revised edition of the Leadership Handbook was developed to help you to understand the vision and the goals of the International School of Ministry (ISOM) and to assist you in starting this Bibleschool effectively in your own church. One of the central tasks of the church of Christ is to teach Christians the contents of the Word of God and help them to obey God by becoming mature followers of Christ, who live out their faith and who bear much fruit for God s Kingdom. The ISOM Bibleschool will help you to guide Christians into a systematic process of spiritual growth and thereby help your church to grow. Since the first ISOM Bibleschools were started in Germany in the year 1998, thousands of Christians have been trained for ministry in over 350 different churches. Many of our former students Pastor growing churches today or have planted their own churches. Today we have Bibleschools in about 20 of the 50 nations of Europe. In these past 17 years we have learned many things about effective training of Christians and have seen that the right administration and leadership is an important key for the success of a Bible school. If the Bible school is led effectively, then it will run successfully in your church for many years and many different school groups can be led through the five Semesters and the Bachelor Program year after year. Leadership expert John Maxwell observes: Everything stands or falls with leadership. Our experience confirms this. Because of this we developed 2010 our first Leader Handbook, with the aim to help Pastors and Leaders of future ISOM Bible schools to understand God s vison behind this school and to gain a clear perspective on their own role as a trainer and coach of the church. The vision behind the ISOM Bibleschool is truely strong and spiritual and it was given to the South African born Berin Gilfillan in the year 1990, which you will read about in the next chapter on the History and Vision of the ISOM Bible school. His book Unlocking the Abraham Promise deals with this vision, which I highly recommend to read. Our experience has been that it is important right from the start to understand the big picture in order to value something fully and to be motivated for it in the long run. Therefore I encourage you to take the time to study this Leader Handbook and to underline the important passages for you and to use the advise given and adapt it to your own school. I believe this little book can help you to mentor Christians effectively through the ISOM Bible school and to avoid mistakes along the way. For all items we use in our daily life there is a right way to handle them, which guarantees us a successful usage and a longterm benefit and enjoyment. The same applies to leading an ISOM Bible school. Another helpful tool at the beginning is to watch the 40-minute DVD of Lynn Reeb, our Canadian ISOM director, about Helpful ideas for Bible school Leaders. This handbook and the DVD will help you to prepare for the start of the Bible school effectively as well as to lead it. In addition let us know, if you have any further questions or if you need further support. May the Lord greatly bless your reading and the process of starting your Bible school. 3 History & Vision of the ISOM Bible school Where there is no revelation (vision), the people cast off restraint; but blessed is he who keeps the law. (Proverbs 29:18) The Vision of the International School of Ministry (ISOM) was birthed in the mid eighties in the heart of South-African Dr. Berin Gilfillan, when he was a staff member in the evangelistic association, Christ for all Nations (CfaN) of evangelist Reinhard Bonnke. During those years Berin was leading the media and TV ministry of Reinhard Bonnke. While he was traveling with Reinhard Bonnke for 3 ½ years to crusades in Africa and other nations, he witnessed hundred thousands of people come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ. When he saw the amazing harvest of souls and the exzessive demand on the Pastos, who could not handle that many new converts, a new question was born in his heart: What will happen with all these new converts? Who will train them and help them to become disciples of Jesus? He recognized the great lack in the body of Christ globally, that many Pastors and churches did not have good training materials nor effective structures to train Christians in the word of God and for the work of ministry. From that moment on the question moved him, how this great need of high quality training for thousands of churches in the nations could be met. In order to find answers to these questions, Dr. Berin first studied at Regent University, that was founded by Pat Robertson, in Virginia (USA) with the concentration on Media and TV ministry. After those studies he went to Fuller Seminary to study World Missions, Leadership and Church Planting. That is the place where our path crossed, where I also studied at Fuller School of Worldmission from 1989 to With many others we shared the same questions: What needs to be done to train Christians effectively in the church as disciples of Jesus?, How can the Great Commission be fulfilled in our cities and nations? Someone said, that the right questions often lead to the right answers. This proved to be true in this case! The vision that the Lord gave as an answer to these questions was to record some of the best teachers in the world in front of a camera, and record their most important life messages as teaching courses, so that Christians all over the world could be trained in their local church and in their mother language. Jesus asked his disciples to lift up their eyes and to see how vast and how ripe the harvest fields were, and then to ask the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest (Matthew 9:37-38). Today more than 7,5 billion people live on earth, of which half of them have not been saved and still need to hear the message of the gospel preached through bold witnesses of Christ. We must therefore train millions of harvest workers in our generation, so that the Holy Spirit can send them into the ripe harvest fields of the world. Every Church A Training Center for Ministry Since most Christians cannot study full-time and attend a Bible school far away, a Bible school is needed that comes to them, where they live, and where they can be trained for low cost in a meaningful and applicable way. To do just that is the vision of the ISOM Bible school to help every church to become a training center for ministry to equip the saints for the work of ministry (Ephesians 4:10-12), at the place where they live and work and go to church right in the midst of their circle of influence. 3

The ISOM Bible School views itself as a helps ministry for Pastors, to empower them to become the good shepherds God has called them to be. Jesus said, that the Good Shepherd feeds his flock the whole counsel of the Word of God. That is why Berin and his wife Lisa Gilfillan founded the mother organization of ISOM in the year 1991 and named it Good Shepherd Ministries. In the year 1991 they also developed the first test version of a teaching program for local churches and field-tested it in Nigeria, Africa. They were convinced, if it would be successful under the very difficult conditions in Africa, then it would work later in all other parts of the world as well. The success of this first training program was great, and Pastors accepted the program gratefully and over leaders were trained for ministry and church planting over a period of just 10 month. From 1994 to 1996 the first five Semesters were recorded live in California in a bilingual format and 55 minutes length per session. In these first recordings the first 17 languages were taped with live translators simultaneously who sat in translation booths. The translators set with headphones in these translation booths while the teacher spoke in English from the front, while a translator at his side, translated his teachings in Spanish, which gave the time space after each sentence, where the other translators could speak their language part into. Because of this bilingual format it became possible in the last 20 years to translate the ISOM curriculum into 70 of the most frequently spoken languages of the world. Today the Bible School is available in the mother tongue of 90 % of the people on earth. ISOM has become the largest multimedia Bible school in the world with over active students in 145 nations of the world and still growing. In China alone fulltime Pastors of the five largest underground house church movements were trained through the first five Semesters of ISOM, who are the spiritual leaders of more than 40 million Christians in China. Every Church A Training Center for Church Planting Because Church Planting is according to the mission expert C. Peter Wagner the most effective method für evangelism and for fulfilling the Great Commission under heaven, the second goal of ISOM is to train and send teams of Christians for planting of new churches. Statistics have shown, that most of the growth of the worldwide body of Christ is happening through Christians in newly planted churches, who are winning their friends, neighbors and collegues at work to Christ. By now thousands of new churches were planted by leaders, who have been trained through the ISOM Bible School. This twofold vision of 1) turning churches into training centers for ministry, and 2) turning churches into centers for church planting was born at Fuller Seminary in California, inspired by C. Peter Wagners course on Church Planting, where he let all his students read the book Church Planting by the Team method by Dr. James Feeney. His church in Alsaka, the Abbot Loop Christian Center, under the leadership of Apostle Dick Benjamin, had send over of their members out to plant new churches, after those members had been thouroughly trained in their local church. In this book Berin Gilfillan discovered for the first time the fully formulated clear vision, that stated Every church a training center for ministry. Every church a training center for church planting. This become the foundation stone for founding the ISOM Bible school. 4

We must prepare good seed, that Jesus can sow! In the German-speaking nations alone we still need thousands of new churches to reach our generation effectively with the gospel of Jesus Christ in all the different language and cultural groups. The same is true in all nations of Europe. Jesus teaches in his parable of the good seed among the tares in Matthew 13,36-43 that the sons of the Kingdom of God are the good seed, while the sons of the enemy are the bad seed. Jesus wants to send us the good seed into the ripe harvest fields of the world. In order for Christians to become the good seed, that can be sown, it must be prepared for ministry, which is the task of the local church. Jesus himself trained His twelve disciples through an intensive process of three years. During that time He taught them about the Kingdom of God and trained them in all aspects of ministry in a small group and also send them out to practive and do what they had learned. For that reason ISOM is not just another program, but a process where disciples of Jesus are trained over several years in small groups in their local churches. Only when we let Christians go through a training process, where they can change their thinking and their world view through the Word of God, so that their character is transformed into the image of Jesus, will they be ready to be send into the ripe harvest fields of the world. This is the basic principle of multiplication in the Kingdom of God, that we can see in Jesus parable of the Sower in Matthew 13:1-26 and in the parable of the tares among the wheat in Matthew 13:24-30 and 13: The Vision of the ISOM Bible school God s destiny and calling for each local church is, that it becomes a training center for the equipping of every Christian for ministry in order to extent God s Kingdom on this earth. The calling of the good shepherd the Pastor is to feed the entrusted sheep that belong to Jesus with good spiritual food and to teach them to obey all things, that He has commanded us (see John 21:15-17, Matthew 28:18-20). This happens by developing the room and the needed structures, which enable the Pastor to train Christians every week for growth in spiritual maturity and for ministry. In this way we work together with the Holy Spirit to lay the foundation for multiplication in seven key areas, which God has promised in His word to multiply for the extension of His Kingdom on earth, IF we are doing our part of training God s people. Wenn we do our part, God will be faithful tot o His part in a powerful and supernatural way 1) through multiplication of God s Word in us and through us, 2) through multiplication of Disciples, which train others to be disciples, 3) through multiplication of Leaders, which can equip and send others, 4) through multiplication of Annointing, that heals the sick and saves the lost, 5) through multiplication of Churches, where the gospel needs to be preached. 6) through multiplication of Resources, that are released through new ministries. 7) through multiplication of Unity, as we all become one in Faith and maturity. We are heirs of the Abraham Promise This promise of multiplication and growth is a part of the promise and the blessing, that God spoke to Abraham and sealed it in a covenant by swearing by His own name to fulfill this promise for all his descandants which we are in Christ. 5

At that time God promised Abraham, because he had been faithful to God and believed him against hope, that He would establish His covenant and that He would multiply his seed as the stars in heaven and as the sand at the see shore (Genesis 22:16-18). As Christians we are the heirs of that blessing and of the promises of God, which he gave to our father of faith, to Abraham. And in Jesus Christ this blessing has come by faith to the nations (Galatians 3:13-14) and to every believing Christian. If this multiplication and growth is not happening in our ministry or church, it is a clear sign, that we are not yet doing our part in God s Kingdom enonomy. It was in the early 90-ties that Berin Gilfillan thought about the reasons why the church is worldwide mainly growing by addition, even though God has promised us growth through multiplication. Through intensive study of the whole Bible regarding that question, the Lord revealed to him, that we as Christians are heirs of the Abraham Promise, and that there is a human part in fulfilling that promise and a divine part. Berin wrote extensively about this discovery in much more depth in his book Unlocking the Abraham Promise Seven Keys for Multiplication. When we do our part as the church to prepare Christians as good seed in the Word of God, then God will do His part, which is the multiplication of disciples and churches to become as plentiful as the stars in heaven and the sand at the sea shore. Jesus promised us, that every Christian will multiply 30-, 60- and 100-fold, if we receive His word into our heart and then apply and do it in our life. For this purpose the ISOM Bible School was given by God to train Christians for abdundant fruit that will remain, so that they will use their gifts and fulfill their calling from God. May the Holy Spirit bless this vision of training the good seed in your life and in your church, and may He guide you into unlocking the Abraham Promise, so that the knowledge of His glory will fill your city and region, so that many people will see Jesus as their savior and receive Him into their lifes. 7 Suggestions for successful implementation of an ISOM Bible school You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will be qualified to teach others also. 2. Timothy 2:1-2 Paul commissioned his spiritual son Timothy to select faithful men and woman in order to train them for ministry, so that they would be qualified to train the next generation. The Great Commission which Jesus gave His disciples in Matthew 28:18-20 is a teaching commission which leads to multiplication of new disciples in all people groups and nations. The ISOM Bible school shall help to fulfill the Great Commission given by Jesus and to faithfully hand the batton of leadership and discipleship from our generation to the next generations. In the last 17 years (the first Bible schools started 1998 in Germany) we have gained a lot of experience with hundrets of Bible schools, that taught us, what to do and what to avoid, so that an ISOM Bible School will be successfully founded and led. Therefore I invite you to read the following suggestions and put them into practice. Suggestions for the starting phase of the Bible school 1. Encourage your church in several services to be trained for ministry and spiritual growth by some of the best teachers in the world for a period of two years. Preach about related topics of discipleship, growth in the Word, multiplication and ministry. 2. Share the vision and the blessings with your church, why it is important, that the church becomes a training center for ministry. Pray to the Lord of the harvest, that He will move hearts and will call laborers for His harvest, who will be motivated for training. 3. Introduce the Bible school in the services by showing 5-minute examples of a DVD lesson. Some churches have even shown a whole lesson or two on different Sundays. Place the admission forms and ISOM Flyers on a table, together with the time schedule and dates of the entire first Semester. Look at: Recommended study sequence. 4. Pray for wisdom of your role in leading the Bible school and chose an administrator and a co-leader right from the start, who will be your leadership team. Select mature men and women who have a heart for the equipping of the saints. Experience has shown, that it is very good, if the Pastor will take personal responsibility for the first five Semesters of the first Bible school and co-leads it with a trainee. This way the church will value training as a high priority when it sees the Pastor invest his time and energy in the Bible school. 5. Multiply Bible schools in your church. If you have trained other Bible school leaders, a new Bible School can start after one year at Semester 1 led by a new leadership team. This way you have already multiplied your potential to raise up disciples and leaders. After some years different Bible schools study on different levels some will be in Semester 2, others in Semester 4 and others in the Bachelor program. 7

6. Decide on a central place where the students can meet for Bible school once per week. A good place can be a bigger room in the church, where a video beamer is available and where students might be able to sit on tables and take notes. 7. A second possibility is to organize the Bible school in smaller groups in different houses. This can be a very helpful way, if the church members live further away. But the ISOM Bible school should not be seen as a substitute for home cell groups, because they have a very different function and purpose than a Bible school which is fellowship, teaching, ministry and evangelism. 8. Then you need to decide, whether your chuch wants to use a bilingual DVD version (English-French, English-Spanisch, etc.), or if you want to use the English Express, Dutch Express (available with Dutch subtitles) or German Express version, where the English is overdubbed or the translation taken out as in the case of English Express. Those Express versions are available in several languages for the Semesters 1-5, and they shorten the viewing time by 50 %, from 60 minutes to just 30 minutes per lesson, which makes more time available for group discussions and ministry time. We recommend all churches who use only one language for training in their Bible school to use the Express version in their primary language. 9. We recommend an introduction evening for the ISOM Bible School, where you invite all interested people to get to know the vision, the curriculum and maybe view a sample lesson together to experience the Bible school. a) Then you can answer all questions of the potential students regarding costs of the school, investment of time, goals of the training, available degree programs. b) Agree upon the meeting place (church or houses) as well as the time schedule and week day for the Semester and make it known to the entire church. 10. Ask each student to fill out the student admission form and sign it and also pay for the Semester before the actual start of the school. Please send the admission forms for your church and the students to our European office via post or . After we have received the admission forms and the funds for Semester 1 on the ISOM bank account, you receive the student workbooks and the DVD Courses within 2 to 3 working days. 8

Suggestions for conducting and leading the Bible school 1. Prepare the Bible school meetings well by looking at the two lessons for the coming week in the workbook and by praying over the content and the questions for group discussion. Pray for the meeting that God will reveal himself to the students and that He will bless them through the lessons and the fellowship. 2. You should prepare the following things for the Bible school meeting: a) Opening Prayer time, one or two worship songs at the beginning. b) Some reflective questions to discuss with the students (about homework). c) Encouraging words for the students, practical application feedback. 3. The program for the Bible School evening can be organized in the following way (that way the evening is about 2 hours): Introduction, prayer and worship time (10 minutes) Discussion of the homework assignments from last week (10 minutes) First lesson of the evening (30 minutes) Express Version Time for group discussion and prayer for each other (20 minutes) Second lesson of the evening (30 minutes) Express Version Time for group discussion and prayer for each other (20 minutes) 4. Ensure that the students can sit comfortably at a table (if possible), so that they can put their student workbook on it and take notes during the lessons. The Video-screen should be large enough, that every student can see the teacher without any problem. If the Bible school is done in houses, the TV screen should be as big as possible. 5. The best time to start an ISOM Bible school is either Fall (September/October) or right at the beginning of the new year (January/February). That way a full Semester can be finished until the beginning of the year or until the summer break in July. After the summer break the next Semester can start again in Fall. That way a rhytm is established of two full Semesters per year. A possible time sequence for the five Semesters can look like this: Semester 1: January/February until June/July (Year 1) Semester 2: September/October until January/February (Year 1) Semester 3: January/February until June/July (Year 2) Semester 4: September/October until January/February (Year 2) Semester 5: January/February until June/July (3. Year) Module 1: September/October until January/February (Bachelor Program) 9

Suggestions, what you should do 1. Encourage the students every week to do their homework and to deepen the lessons through personal prayer time and Bible study. Emphasize the law of sowing and reaping. The students need to give God time to work things into their life and spirit. It is also an important part of building spiritual discipline and strong Christian character. 2. Encourage the students to ask the Holy Spirit after every lesson: Holy Spirit, what do you want me to do with the lessons I learned? Help me to be a doer of Your Word. 3. Encourage the students to be on time and to participate on all Bible school meetings. Use an attendance list to check each students attendance record. Encourage students to study missed lessons on their own and to loan the DVD lesson if needed. 4. Prepare opportunities for practical ministry for the students in the church and outside the church, according to their gifts and topics of the courses. 5. It is helpful to emphasize some of the topics of the Bible school in sermons on Sundays and possibly in Bible studies in the weekly home cell groups. 6. If possible let the home cell leaders emphasize and deepen some of the key topics of the Bible school in the cell groups. That way the whole church can participate in the teachings of the Bible school and can be motivated to become students as well. Another benefit is the support and building of spiritual unity in the faith and the word of God throughout the whole church (see Ephesians 4:13-16). 7. It is very good to start another School Year with Semester 1 after 12 to 18 months for potential new students, who could not participate in the first school or who were not even saved and part of your church. For this purpose advertise the Bible School early enough throughout the year. 8. Also advertise the Bachelor Program in your church early on, so that the students can see the potential for further spiritual growth and further studies in ministry. 9. Celebrate the handing out of the diplomas for the students with a festive service, which is an encouragement for the whole church and for the families and friends of the students, who can be invited for this special event. Use this opportunity to advertise for a new School Year and for the start of the Bachelor Program. 10. You can also select one or two books taht can be studied during a Semester voluntarily, in order to deepen key areas that are important for ministry and spiritual growth. 10

Suggestions what you should not do 1. To delegate the Leadership responsibility to third parties, because the Pastor has no time for the Bible school. This strongly communicates to the church, that training for ministry and the Bible school cannot be a high priority for the church. Even if the Pastor is neither the School director nor the Co-Leader of the Bible school, the Pastor should take the responsibility to communicate the Vision and to supervise the training process of the school year. 2. To study only one lesson per week. This breaks the flow and dynamic of the school and doubles the study time, which makes the whole school extremey long and will discourage most students to committ. Our experience is that 80 % of the students drop out of school by Semester 3 or 4, if only one lesson per week is studied. If only one lesson is studied every week, than one Semester takes one year, and the five Semesters last five years. This demotivates 90 % of the students. 3. To teach extensively yourself during the Bible school. The Bible school leader is the administrator and coach, who creates the right setting and atmosphere for learning, discussion and who supports the practical application of the lessons learned. The School leaders job is to encourage the students to study, be persistent and not give up, and to be a doer of the Word. His or her job is not to teach or preach. This has destroyed more than one school. 4. To meet every two weeks for four lessons. Also this approach has not proven effective, because it destroys the healthy dynamic of the school (as in point 2). Also the interval between two evenings is too long and four lessons is too much to process for the students at just one meeting. THE BEST AND PROVEN FORMAT IS: TWO LESSONS PER WEEK! 5. To let individual students dominate the whole discussion times. Make sure that also the more quiet and introvert students can say and contribute something, by asking them, what they have learned and what the Lord has spoken to them. Let one or two people share in the big group something to every question that was discussed during the group discussion time. Limit the discussion in the big group to 4 or 5 people, who say something to the homework or the group discussion times. Provide time to answer questions of the students. 6. To transfer only knowledge without working deliberately on the practical application of the truths in the life of the church and in the daily lifes of the students. Provide opportunities for the students to apply the lessons learned in the ministry in the church and in their social settings where they live and work. Help students to find ways to be salt and light in their world. 11

Frequently asked questions about ISOM Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about the ISOM Bible school and some answers to those questions that will hopefully help you. If you have further questions, that are not mentioned here, please contact us personally. Question 1: How much time is required for the Bible school each week? The Bible school requires about 4 to 5 hours per week. A Bible school meeting during the week, where two lessons are studied takes about 3 hours (with Express versions only 2 ½ hours), including the Video lessons, group discussion, prayer and reflection times on homework and ministry to each other. An additional hour is needed to complete the home work assignments. If lessons are applied in ministry than another hour or more can be added, which is different for every student. Question 2: Can students also start with the Bible school at a later Semester? It is possible for students to enter the Bible school in Semester 2, which should however be the exception and not the rule. It is not advisable for students to enter the school year any later than Semester 2, because the first two Semesters build the foundation for the Bible school and form the relationships among the students. The students grow together in the systematic learning process, which makes it necessary for them to start at equal levels to grow in the unity of faith and to be impacted by the different courses that build upon each other. Therefore we recommend to start a new school year with Semester 1 after one to two years, so that a new generation of students can be trained and raised for ministry. Question 3: Which official recognition has the ISOM Bible school in the German-speaking nations? Generally speaking all degrees of free and independent Christian denominations (Bachelor, Mastor or Doctoral degrees) have no recognition by our government or the national universities. Our ISOM diplomas are however internationally accredited through either Vision International University (VIU) or Christian Leadership University (CLU), which are recognized by different Bible schools and theological seminaries according to their credit systems. How many credits are recogized by an institution has to be negotiated case by case, but we do have partnerships with several of them in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Information about credit transfers can be obtained through our office. But it is not possible to demand a certain recognition from other institutions because of our diplomas, because that is always the decision of the other institutions how much they want to recognize. Question 4: What am I able to do with the Bachelor degree? Can I continue with studies? The Bachelor diploma is an official document that proves a certain amount of studies on a subject, that has been done in a systematic way with a clear amount of time and investment, for which in turn credits are given. The most direct way to continue studies is in partnerhip with our partner universities Vision or CLU. With three more modules a Master diploma can be obtained and also a doctoral degree is possible. Here are the websites of our two main partner universities that provide our international recognized diplomas: 1. Vision International University 2. Christian Leadership University 12

We are happy to consult with you and to help our schools and students to develop the right plan for further degree studies. For further study with other Christian schools the report of the obtained ISOM credits needs to be handed in, that shows the hours of study and work, including group studies, home work, practical ministry experience. We have a framework developed to assist with this application process. Question 5: Can we skip courses or substitute them with other courses? It is better not to do so. But generally it is possible to do, but should be done with wisdom and consultation with us. Certain courses especially in the first two Semesters should not be left out or substituted, because they lay important foundations in the lifes of the students, like the courses on New and Old Testament, about Supernatural Living and the gifts of the Holy Spirit, like Worship and Praise as a lifestyle, the foundations of faith and the essence of the gospel. Those courses build a strong biblical theology for disciplemaking. If a school wants for good reasons to substitute a later Semester 3, 4 or 5 with a Bachelor Module, than it is possible and should be coordinated with our office. Question 6: What is the minimum age for students of ISOM? There is no real minimum age. Our youngest students have been 12 years old and our oldest students are 80 to 90 years old. The better question is: Is the spiritual maturity in the potential student there and has he or she a strong spiritual hunger to grow in God? Those are factors that cannot be measured by age, but by the grace of God that is present in the life of the applicant. Therefore it should be individually considered, if a young person has the spiritual desire and the maturity to seriously go through the studies. Jesus was sitting in the temple with age 12 and was impressing all Pharisees and scribes with his spiritual insights and wisdom. It is important, that the motivation is right and that the motivation quotient (MQ) is high. Then the Lord will bless the studies and good fruits will grow. Question 7: What should we do, if a student does not want to participate in the exams? It is possible, that students do not want to obtain a diploma. You should communicate to the students that the exams are an important part of the school, because they provide an additional motivation to learn the contents of the courses and are a good feedback, if the teachings have been understood. The exams help the students to go through the school with a consistent discipline. As school director you should help your students to be relaxed about the exams and encourage them, that there is nothing to fear and that they are not difficult, if they have come to the school meetings and have done their homeworks. If a student still insists on not taking the exams and of not wanting a diploma, then this should be accepted and made possible. But communicate how the exams are helpful to the students. However, all students should have the commitment to do the homework assignments, to participate in the group discussions and to apply the learned truth in real life. If this willingness is not there in a student, then they are not qualified to study with the ISOM Bible school and should not be accepted. Students, who are not willing to agree with the philosophy and the learning process of the ISOM Bible school can negatively affect the entire atmosphere and influence the quality of the school negatively. Consider the principle: The Lord commands His blessing, where there is a spirit of unity and humility (Psalm 133). Our experience is, that most students, who do not participate in the exams and do not obtain a diploma, leave the school after a few Semesters. 13

Question 8: Is it possible to get special prices and discounts for students who do not have so much money? Unfortunately we cannot grant discounts or special prices to those students with lesser incomes, because our prices are already calculated as low as possible. What we can do in certain cases is to allow two installments for those students. The best way is, that the church sponsors these qualified students. But this should only happen partially, so that they still pay something for their studies themselves. Otherwise the training is not worth much for them, if they have to pay nothing personally. One of the best investments a church can make is in the training of its own people, because this will bring forth life-long good fruits. It can be a very effective way to organize sponsoring in your own church and to collect a special offering for students with a lower income. Special deal for refugees: Since 2015 we have announced to all our Bible schools, that we reduce the Semester price for refugees with no income to 50 %. Since we have done that, several Bible schools have started among refugees in Farsi, Arabic and Turkish. Those students pay only 30 Euro for their workbook and for the Semester. This is a wonderful partnership that can be developed between ISOM and your church to reach the refugees and make them into disciples for their people groups and nations. Question 9: Is it possible for different language groups to study together in the same school with German-speaking students? That is possible and is also encouraged by us. There are many schools where German students study together with students from other nations, who have their workbook in their native language and who also want to learn German at the same time. You can order workbooks in different languages for the Semester. If however the main language of your church is German and the Bible school uses German Express, then you need to evaluate whether the students from other nations can follow the teachers. If you have 5 or 6 or more students with a Persian background who speak Farsi, it can be much more effective to start a Farsi Bible school in your church. Some international churches use English-German DVDs to integrate students from many different languages, who understand English and Farsi or English and Arabic or any other native language. That has to be evaluated individually with the applicants. All students can take the exams in their own native language, so that they have no problems to understand the exam questions and give the right answers. Students from other cultures and nations can be a great enrichment for a Bible school and fort he church, because they bring totally new perspectives and ways of thinking to the group, that can challenge us to rethink our cultural ways of doing things. We should become very aware, that the whole Bible was not written from a background of Western culture, but from the background and perspective of the Eastern culture, which has a totally different value system and ways of living. Christians or converts from other Eastern nations very often bring those Eastern values into our churches, which can be a great learning experience for us. On the other hand they need to unlearn also unbiblical cultural ways, which is true for any culture we have been raised in. The Bible has the authority to critique and correct any human system or culture, which is part of the disciplemaking. 14

70 available languages Train disciples of Jesus in many languages The ISOM courses of the five Semesters have been recorded in a bi-lingual format. All the teachers taught the courses live in English, while a Spanish translator stood at their side, who created by his translation simultaneously the right spaces for other languages to be added. The first five Semesters where recorded in front of a live audience, while fifteen translators of the worlds leading languages sat with head phones in a soundproof box to record the Semesters in their native language in French, Tagalog, Cantonese, German, Hebrew and others. Today the five Semesters exist in over 70 of the worlds most frequently spoken languages either in part or fully, which comprises the languages of 90 % of the world population. You can see the status on the next page. At this moment we have the DVD masters and notes of 20 different languages that can be obtained directly through our office. Those are also the most frequently spoken languages in the German-speaking nations and of course in Europe. Any other language can also be ordered through us, which we then order from the ISOM office in California, which takes about 10 days of delivery for us. Note: Our Semesters are called Trimesters in the US. The following 20 languages can be directly ordered through our ISOM Europe office: 1. Albanian 11. Italian 2. Amharic 12. Korean 3. Arabian 13. Polish 4. Bulgarian 14. Romanian 5. Dutch 15. Russian 6. German 16. Spanish 7. English 17. Tagalog 8. Farsi 18. Turkish 9. French 19. Hungarian 10. Hebrew 20. Vietnamese The Semester courses of some languages are on Video CDs, which can be played on every DVD player and computer. All languages always come in the bilingual format, with English and the second selected language. Some languages are also available as Express versions. The prices for all languages and versions are the same. ISOM Express versions are currently available in: Dutch, English, German and Spanish With the Express versions the English language part has been overlayed with the second language, while the Spanish translator has been cut out. This cuts the playing time of each lesson in half. An average DVD lesson takes between 50 to 55 minutes viewing time, while the Express versions only take about 25 to 30 minutes. This has both advantages and disadvantages, and students have to get used to the Express version, which takes 2 or 3 lessons. A great advantage is, that much more time is available for group discussion and prayer for each other. A disadvantage is, that students do not have so much time for taking notes and for considering what they are hearing. But most churches select the German Express version and have very good experiences with it, because the advantages by far outweigh the diadvantages. 15

M3 Messenger Module: * John Bevere is not only a bestselling author, but also a recognized Bible teacher in the body of Christ worldwide. His few short courses in the five Semesters of ISOM had a lasting effect on the lifes of students in many nations. When John Bevere heard about the ISOM Bachelor Program he was willing to offer more of his key seminars as courses to the ISOM students. This module consists of three of the strongest seminars taught by John Bevere: Extraordinary Living; Driven by Eternity, Overcoming Intimidation. These courses where professionally produced by Messenger International, the ministry of John Bevere. M4 Nation-to-Nation Module: * This wonderful Module from the Nation-to-Nation School consists of five strong courses by some of the best teachers from Elim Bibel Institute in Lima, New York. In the courses are taught life-changing truths in the areas of Marriage and Family, Overcoming personal suffering and loss, Fulfilling your destiny, Overcoming temptations, and also an excellent overview on the teachings of the book of Romans. World Impact Now (WIN), led by Brick Cliff, has produced these courses in Texas. WIN works in partnerschaft with ISOM. M5, M6, M7 Women Modules (WOW): These modules were originally developed to train women in all nations of the world. The English name of the program is WOW Women of the World. But many of these courses are also important for man to understand and are a powerful tool to better understand women and their role in the eyes of God and according to the Bible. The WOW Module 7 contains a selection of the most important and essential courses of WOW Part 1 and Part 2. The 32 courses of these Modules are taught by many of the most influential woman teachers in the world, like Darlene Zschech, Joyce Meyer, Marilyn Hickey, Pat Harrison, Gloria Copeland. Please not: For the Bachelor Program only one of the three WOW Modules can be selected not two! M8 Spiritual Intimacy Module: * This is a required module for a Bachelor Diploma with Christian Leadership University! This module was produced by Christian Leadership University (CLU) and contains five courses by Dr. Mark Virkler, founder of CLU and author of more than 50 books. His very practical teachings and courses are based on active listening to the voice of God. These courses have transformed the lifes of thousands of Christians and influenced them to pursue a deeper spiritual life and relationship with God. Virkler is known for his teaching style that leads into personal encounter with God and into receiving personal revelation from God. This module is highly recommended! M9 Messianic Module: * Through this module and its eight courses students have the opportunity to get to know and understand the Hebrew roots of their Christian faith. There is hardly a better and more suited person to teach this than Perry Stone and his ministry Voice of Evangelism. Through the usage of creative media in a fully decorated TV studio, Perry Stone and other known teachers make the Jewish and Bible history come alife. These courses provide a deeper understanding of the entire Bibel and the redemption plan of God throug His son Jesus Christ WHO already was present in the seven Jewish feasts, in the battle between the two seeds of mankind, in the Tabernacle of Moses, in the Jewish Wedding ceremony and in Code of the Priest. This is a truely eye-opening module to see the unity of the whole Word of God and the 66 books of the Bible. M10 Cleansing Stream Module: This module is from the leading Healing and Deliverance Ministry for local churches in the world. Tenthousands of Christians in over 40 nations have received deep and longlasting healing and freedom from rejection, abuse, fear, anger, unforgiveness, sexual addictions and generational curses. We therefore recommend the Cleansing Stream Module and Seminar to every church. Christians need to receive the freedom Jesus died for. There is however a minimum participation of 25 students for a ministry weekend (ideal is 30 to 40 or more participants). You can open this Seminar to all members of your church and to other churches in your region, even if they are not ISOM students! After four lessons (about 3 month later) follows a ministry weekend to which trained leaders from Cleansing Stream will come to serve the participants. 21

Guideline for administering the Exams Dear Bible school leader, With this guideline we want to help you prepare the students and yourself for administering and correcting the exams in the right way. For each Semester there are two exams a midterm exam and a final exam. In the prior section on Recommended sequence of Study you can see when the two exams are coming and for which courses and lessons they apply. The exams are closed-books exams and take about 30 to 45 minutes. During each exam several courses are tested, but each course must be graded separately. The exams consist of multiple-choice questions and right-or-wrong questions. The school director writes the test results (number of right anwers) on the last page of the exam. Then the percentages for the Semester exam needs to be calculated and then listed behind the students name in the Excel Spread Sheet for Semesters 1 to 5. The school director keeps the Excell Spread Sheet and hands the corrected exams back to the students in the following meeting, so that the students get a feedback on their results. How the percentages and grades are calculated Please fill in the school name and the other requested information on top of the Excel Sheet, so that we can match the results with your school. Then list the names of all students in the table and confirm the attendance of at least 80 % of the students with Y(es) or N(o) or with a check. In the Excel Sheet you find abbreviations of the course names for example: Foundations of Faith (FF) or New Testament (NT). In the columns under each course name you can enter the percentage of right anwers for each course and each student. Please do not enter any numbers or grades in the Excel Sheet, but only percentages! Please round the percentages up or down. The percentage for each course and for the whole Semester is calculated in the following way: Step 1: Calculation of the percentages for each course Number of right answers x 100 = Percentage Number of total questions Example Semester 1, Course 2, Supernatural Living; (Midterm Exam) Number of questions = 30 Number right answers = 25 Percentage = 25 : 30 x 100 = 83,33 % = 83 % Wrong answers = 5 83,33 % is rounded down 83 % Please write the percentage of each course for the student in the column under each course. If the student has less than 80 % attendance in the classes, he fails the Semester. But he or she can also repeat missed lessons at home to reach the 80 % attendance. Step 2: Calculation of the percentage for the whole Semester After all percentages for all courses of the students have been entered in the columns, the percentage for the whole Semester must be calculated, which is the result for that Semester. This percentage needs to be written in the column Semester %. The grade for a Semester is the average percentage of all courses for that Semester. Then you can enter the grade (A, B, C ) for each Semester and student in the column grade. Please see at the next page. 31

Calculation of the average percentage and the grade for the whole Semester: Sum total of all percentages = Average percentage/semester Grade Number of courses Example for Semester 1: FF = 90 % Sum total of percentages = 340 ( ) NT = 87 % Number of courses = 4 SL = 80 % WP = 83 % Average percentage: 340 : 4 = 85 % / Grade = B The average percentage of all courses results in the grade for the Semester: % = A % = A % = B % = B % = B % = C % = C % = C % = D % = D % = D less % = F Please compare these explantations with the Excel Spreed Sheet, so that the usage becomes clear to you. On the last page of each exam is a little table, where you can fill in the percentage for each course and student. After you have checked the exam and calculated the percentages for each course, transfer the percentages into the Excel column for each student. F means failed. Please send the Excel Sheet with the results for all students via to our ISOM office at the end of three Semesters. We don t need a copy of the exams. You can send the Excel Sheet to info@christusfuereuropa.de or info@isddbibelschule.de What you can do if a student has failed the exam with an F Because all courses are treated equally for the Semester grade, one failed course can be compensated by the other passed courses. The students passes a Semester because of the Semester percentage/grade, that must be 60 or more percent, not based on the percentages of individual courses. If the student has 60 % or more for all three Semesters, the student has earned the right for an ISOM certificate, after five Semesters of a diploma. a) If the average percentage for the Semester lies between %, then the student can repeat one or more courses and try to reach more than 60 % for the Semester. b) If the average percentage for the Semester lies under 50 %, then the student has to repeat the entire exam for the whole Semester. 32

Vision International University (VIU) Leader Handbook ISOM Bible School If the student wants to obtain an internationally recognized diploma (after five Semesters an Associates of Arts or after five additional modules a Bachelor of Arts) through our partner universities Vision International University (VIU) or Christian Leadership University (CLU), then each individual course has to be passed with 60 % or more. If a student, who wants a recognized degree in the future (Bachelor or Master), and has some courses below 60 %, he or she needs to repeat the exams for these courses until the result is above 60 %. The ISOM certificate (after 3 Semesters) and the Associates of Biblical Studies diploma (after 5 Semesters) is included in the Semester price of 70 Euro per student. The international recognized diplomas by VIU or CLU however need to be ordered through our office and cost 250 Euro per student as administrative and diploma fee. The reason for that fee is, because they are internationally accredited, which is an expensive procedure. Completion of a class after five Semesters The five Semesters of the ISOM Bible school are training Christians to discover their gifts and callings and how to minister in the church and build God s Kingdom in the world. Christians shall be trained to have a broad knowlegde of the Word of God and of God s heart to reach the world with the saving gospel of Jesus Christ. For this reason the completion of a class of students after five Semesters should be an event, that should be celebrated in the church through a ceremony in the service, where the students are honored for their faithful study and where they receive their diplomas. Some ideas for a diploma celebration in the church Have a celebration where the students can invite family and friends to the service. Bless the students and pray for them together with the whole church. Ask some of the students to give a testimony during that service, what God has done in their lifes through the Bible school. You can also invite us as ISOM representatives to your diploma celebration to hand the diplomas personally to the students and where we minister in that special service. You can also have two celebrations one for the Certificate after three Semesters, and one for the Diploma of Biblical Studies after five Semesters. This is the best advertising in your church for interested new students and for starting a new class with Semester 1. Starting new ISOM classes We recommend to start new classes with Semester 1, whenever a potential number of new students can be enrolled in the church. In order to do that successfully, it is recommended to train new school leaders during the Semesters of your first class. If you build a leadership team of trainers, you can grow your Bible school and train more Christians longterm. Before finishing Semester 2 or 3 you can already advertise the start of a new class that begins with Semester 1. In that new class all new Christians, who just received Christ can be trained together with those, who were not able to start a year ago. 33

Bachelor Program All students who have completed the five Semesters can immediately continue with the study of Bachelor modules and pursue the Bachelor diploma. That way the students of that class can stay together for Bachelor and even Master studies. Sending the Grade report forms Please send the Excel Spread Sheet with the results for the Semesters and for the Bachelor modules not as a Fax! Your can either send it with a letter or much better as to our office. Please use only the official Excel Spread Sheet on the Leader CD. Please send to: Christus für Europa e.v.
