1 Sermon October 27,2016 The Conduct of a Christian - Today s Sermon comes from Titus 3 VS 1-15 Focusing on 1-11 and verse 14 Considering the elections and the outcomes of the Election. -Our country is voting on issues that as Christians should not agree with. Our Nation is rapidly moving away from Christian Values and from Christian Based Morals. We as Christians are in a tough place and need to be careful about how we portray our feelings about politics. We do not want to say or do something that is going to cause us to Blow it or mar our work as a Christian. Pat Robertson In 1990 held a meeting after the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., and that meeting was designed to call for the formation, he said, of a Christian anti-defamation league. He said, and I quote him, "You've called us fools so we'll call you bigots. Christians are tired of being stepped on and the time has come to stand up for Christians' rights," end quote. John Seale, an author writes, "A politicized faith not only blurs our priorities but weakens our loyalties." That is a very insightful statement. We want our faith to Influence our political views not our political views to influence our faith Our Loyalties are with God and Heaven our priorities are to preach the Gospel. The government is important and what we do as Christians is important. We can have a negative or positive effect on what happens before, during and especially after. Phillipians 3:20 Where is our citizenship?? What does this mean? Do we just give up and let things happen?

2 No, we try to influence by spreading the Love of Christ. *** OUR PRIORITY IS TO SPREAD THE LOVE OF CHRIST!! What is a Christian? Someone who follows Christ. Someone who believes what God says. 80% of Americans Believe in God What is the percentage that take Gods Seriously? We are to seek to win people to Christ. We need to Call Sin as Sin, but we cant try to chance a culture. Read over issues voted on and points 4 things a Christian should do to Obey God 1. Be Submissive to Rulers 2. Speak Evil of no one 3. Avoid Foolish Controversies 4. Stay away from people who stir up division Background Titus was one of Paul s converts he was preaching in Crete Paul wrote this letter to Titus to encourage and teach The Christian Church was a huge minority. They was no Christian influence They were totally Pagan. Controlled by a satanic agenda, many were worshiping demons. Paul is showing how Jesus saves through what a saved person looks like! READ TITUS 3 Does this pertain to us?

3 Verse 1: Be Submissive to rulers and Obey. Why be subject to rulers and authorities? Turn to Romans 13 verse verse 1, they are appointed by God 2. Verse 3, do what is good and you will receive his approval Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. What makes Christianity attractive is the gentleness and peace. No Violent Protesting No Slandering No hostility No attacking the Ungodly or unsaved Acts 4:16-20 The only time we are to disobey government is when it tells us to do something that is contrary to Scripture. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot How can we be the Salt of the Earth if we are not different from the others? Ephesians 4:32 Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. Verse 3 We once lived...

4 Malice and Envy (ill will) Malice Story - Pipeline Men will never be satisfied without God because lust can never be ultimately satisfied by things on earth. The point is Paul said they were depraved and no different from them before they accepted Christ. Luke 19:41-44 Speaks about Jesus weeping over Jerusalem's apostasy. Can we weep over our nation s rebellion as well? Verses 5-8 The only reason we are different is because God Saved us! Verse 5: Not because of things we have done. Before you become angry and hostile, remember that you were saved by Grace and Grace alone. Verse 9: Avoid foolish Controversies Foolish Controversies in this time were Over the communion Theology Differences that meant nothing Scripturally. We need to focus on the word of God and how we are portraying God to others and our effect those around us. If we are bickering about things that the outcome is the same or details differ, it is taking away form our service and is a way Satan uses to take our focus off of God. Hypocrisy: In my opinion, hypocrisy is one of the greatest let downs of a persons character Unsaved and Saved people alike will judge and make judgements about things Christians do. It is a major stumbling block for the many people. Verse 10: Stay away from people who stir up division One Translation says heretic

5 Heretic! Matt 18:15-17 Anyone in the church who is unsubmissive, self-willed, and divisive should be expelled. Francis - I never fully understood this until it became a part of a study I was involved in. Conclusion: How does this pertain to us? We have an increasingly pagan nation. Will we change it? John 15:18 18 If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. Luke 6: Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! 23 Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets.
