1 New Testament Church Part 5 II Peter 1:3 IS THE WORD OF GOD ENOUGH?
2 WHAT MANY BELIEVE The Bible is a good book. The Bible tells us about God. The Bible is a moral Guideline. The Bible testifies of Jesus. BUT Our church has a separate doctrine. Our church has a message for today. The Bible is old and outdated. THE BIBLE WAS WRITTEN BY MAN AND THEREFORE HAS ERRORS IN IT.
3 HUMAN CREEDS AND DOCTRINES Many came about because people refused to accept and obey the Word of God. Did not like the Bible says. Hits too close to home. We like it, so it must be good. God did not mean what He said We need a word for today s people I am going to always do what feels right in my spirit.
4 EVERYTHING YOU NEED II Peter 1:3 Word of God completely furnishes us with: Teaching. Reproof or Rebuke. For Correction. Instruction in Righteousness. Completeness. What is needed for EVERY GOOD WORK
5 THE BIBLE ONLY The Bible also contains: The Mind of God. The state of mankind. The way of salvation. The doom of sinners. The happiness of obedient believers.
6 TREASURES OF THE BIBLE The Bible also contains: Light to direct and guide us. Spiritual food to sustain us. Comfort to cheer us up. Humility to keep us grounded. Life and the meaning of life. A perfect law of liberty (James 1:25)
7 TRAVELER S MAP TO HEAVEN The Bible is: A good soldier s compass. A rod and a staff (Psalms 23) A light in the darkness of this world. A weapon/sword to fight off enemies. New spiritual clothing put on at baptism. Armor needed for spiritual warfare Eph. 6: 11-20
8 THE BIBLE AND ETERNITY The Bible gives us a vivid picture of: Paradise being restored. A glimpse into the Heavenly realm. A picture of the entrance and dimensions of Hell. Proof that we all will live somewhere forever. Proof that both God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are eternal in nature.
9 NO RIGHT TO CHANGE IT Deut. 4: 2 You shall not add unto the word nor diminish from it. Adding/taking away from the Word of God perverts it (Gal. 1: 6-9) Does not allow for I knew what the bible says, but. Does not allow for removal of things we don t like about it. Does not need to be enhanced/updated by man!
10 PROBLEMS WITH HUMAN CREEDS 1. They often change every few years. 2. They cannot be defended and supported by the Word of God. 3. They are divisive in nature.
11 MODERN ATTITUDES Study conducted regarding beliefs about the Bible. These were the results. 13% rejected the doctrine of the Trinity. 48% rejected the Bible s teaching on creation. 33% believed there was no devil/satan. 38% believed there was no revelation from God. 38% believed that O.T. prophets could predict future events. 39% believed that good, well meaning people will be in Heaven without becoming a Christian.
12 MODERN ATTITUDES 55% believed the bible contained many myths and legends. 43% rejected the Bible as the divine inspiration of God. 19% did not believe in the resurrection of Christ. 19% refused to believe that Jesus was God. 34 % did not believe in a future punishment. 27% believed that Jesus will not return. 51% state that baptism and the Lord s Supper are non essential.
13 IF THE BIBLE IS NOT TRUE 1. Then the history of man is not true. 2. Then error is worth more than truth. 3. Nature works in vain. 4. Then it is not authoritative in expression. 5. Thus saith the Lord occurs 42,000 times in the Bible. It means that God would be lying! 6. Then we all have no hope of avoiding eternal punishment.
14 CONCLUSION The Bible has been given by God to provide all of needs. It is truly God breathed It proves itself over and over again. When rightly understood and divided, it never contradicts itself. Must be obeyed. Will be the measuring line in judgment. Is God s way to communicate with mankind. Is completely full of the nature and love of God.
